We attended the UGA College of Engineering convocation at the Classics Center. The facility itself is very nice (much much better Atlanta Symphony concrete bunker and air raid shelter). My only complaint is that the entrance to the parking facility is completely inadequate for large events and the Athens police were not there directing traffic. The university and the city need to do a better job of coordinating events in the future.

This should be a listening room but..... more like a bad dive bar with nice seating. Let me explain. My wife and friend went to see Ray Lamontagne at $70 a ticket. We are avid concert goers and love an intimate environment where we can hear an artist. Apparently people did not come to hear the music but rather drink and be obnoxious. People could be heard all over the theatre cussing at each other and shouting. After several attempts and shhhhhs from the crowd my wife informed a man a woman sitting right behind her that she would like to enjoy the music (they were partying hard and being loud). The lady gets right in my wife's face and tells her "shut the f up, I bought my ticket just like you did". At this point the usher is informed and the usher never offered to move my wife or the disruptive party. Never even spoke with them. Here's how the rest of the evening went. The disruptive couple started a bullying tirade for the rest of the evening. Kicking the back of the chair, putting their feet up on the backs and even poured a glass of wine down my wife's back (the whole glass!!!!!).
What happened to my wife is not fair. There are no people in charge at Classic Center to handle unruly guest. If a fight were to break out who knows... not worth the gamble to be unsafe in what is supposed to be a listening environment. The first clue of clientele was the many "Who Who's!!" being shouted all over the theatre during ballads by the opening act. Never again

Really nice place. The only problem I had was amenities. We were there for a two day conference. Evening and morning. Although there is a really nice eating area there was nothing available for either day. BUT what was there was ridiculously price. We were taken advantage of. Everything was $3. Let me explain. $3 for one 12 oz can of coke. $3 for one 8-10oz cup of coffee. $3 for a muffin. The size of a breakfast muffin you make at home. $3 for a bag of chips. This bag of chips is the snake size variety you get in a lays box for your kids lunch. Seriously this was sick. I couldn't believe the prices. Because they could? We had a short 30 minute break. Not too much time to walk a block for a sandwich on a Saturday morning in downtown Athens.
The Arena/stage is nice. Not my first time here. All seats are good seats. Even for open seating. I will attend again BUT I will make sure I have my own food and expect to get ripped off by the center.

The Classic Center was wonderful both Emily (wedding coordinator) and Meredith (catering consultant) were great to work with! Emily made sure that the whole day ran smoothly and I wasn't worried with one detail that day. It was wonderful how they prepared our food and drinks for us so that we could actually sneak some food in. It was so great to work with professionals who were there every step of the way to make sure I was not stressed that day!

A great spot for conventions, music performances, and even weddings in the heart of the Classic City. Parking and navigation through the building can be a little confusing. There is a two-part deck/garage; the front one, off Thomas St., gets extremely congested. Would recommend parking in the eastern deck one street over or in a metered spot in the main downtown area instead.
