I have been twice for dinner in the last 2 months .I repeated obviously because I liked so much. The 1st time the dishes were generous but the 2nd time, maybe because of Valentine's and they were full , I found that the quantity was less. I ordered the same dish both times. Instead wide wine and alcoholic drinks list and good prices for this kind of cuisine

Just make sure you don't visit when the extractor fan is not working, we were smoked out all weekend. I am sure it's lovely if your room is not near the kitchen,
The hotel itself is ok however the rooms are very poor. We paid extra for a better room and were given the bunker. It's in the basement and must have been a cellar in days gone by. I'm only 5 foot 11 but the ceiling and doors were so low I had to stoop or bang my head. There's no window and it's very dark, oppressive and claustrophobic. We asked if there was another room and were given a tiny room that must have been their worst but at least we were out of the dungeon. The hotel has refused to refund us the extra we paid for their "deluxe" room. We wish we'd just stayed at a travelodge as would have been a nicer experience at a fraction of the cost of this overpriced hotel! Avoid
Reply to owner response - We didn't book the bunker room. We booked a upgraded room. At no point during the booking was the bunker room described so to say why did you book that is just disingenuous! We arrived at 4pm in the afternoon, not evening, you say no other rooms were available which means the bunker is the last room you allocate, probably because it's your worst room! I wonder how many other people ask to be moved?! You need to be open and honest with your room descriptions before booking and not hide what you may allocate to guests. Very untrustworthy!
Close to city centre, off street parking for a fee. Restaurant offers bistro style menu. Breakfast a bit pricey. Very close to railway line so expect train noise until around 11pm. Request a room on the far side of the building away from trainline. Friendly and helpful staff at check in and checkout.
Location was perfect, good sized room, very fair price, staff were amazing, Ian on reception genuinely made our stay a solid 10/10. Recommended to friends who are now bookings to stay
Very nice staff, lovely room which was very large. Offered lots of information on surrounding attractions upon arrival. Nice restaurant and bar with good prices.
Comfortable nineteenth century hotel in an inner suburb of York, within easy walking distance of the city centre and especially the Minster. Appears to have been quite recently refurbished. Car park (expensive) and outside seating area. Attractive restaurant. Comfortable rooms. Friendly staff.
The hotel and the room are truly stunning. The staff are great and breakfast was wonderful. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars was that the bed was a tad too firm and being on the ground floor at the front of the hotel meant you could hear all the traffic so was a bit noisy during the night.
I liked the room not so big,but cosy. The customer service was excellent because I was complaining about the cold and they provided me a blanket and a small radiator to heat the room as I requested. The only problem was the restaurant, don't try to eat there ever!!! I waited 20 minutes for a starter and then almost 1 hour abd half to have my main course which was awful!! A kid can cook better than them. At the end for this unpleasant experience I paid 50 pounds, that was a shame because it ruined my opinion of the whole hotel. I'm giving to the hotel just 4 instead of 5 stars because of the restaurant which is definetely 1 star and doesn't reflect the quality of the hotel.
Good location, only 10 mins on foot to Minister & town centre attractions and really friendly and helpful staff, but the rooms are quite small for the price as are the bathrooms. Probably something to do with the age of the building and the constraints they have because of it, but you do feel quite cramped when you're in there. Otherwise, it's a great base for exploring the city. Plus there's ample car parking.
stayed the weekend 16th until 18th june. cant speak highly enough . hotel beautiful. staff excellent so lovely. breakfast was very good. rooms clean etc. thankyou all at churchhills me and my family will be coming back. we realy didnt want to go home
Staff are great, rooms are a great size and nicely done out.hotel is in a good location, only a few mins walk from the city centre.only reason I don't give this five star is the cost of a meal here is a bit to much!
The room doors are very noisy, banging and clanging, light breakfast only given one weetabix??? Never in my life have I ever witnessed the this, in every advert, two biscuits in the bowl, poor bathroom ventilation, every surface has beads of condensation on it. Expensive for small double room. My first time at this hotel, staff are polite and professional... L
Lovely staff, everything you need and more from the rooms and a beautiful hotel. A few minutes walk from the city so all in all pretty perfect, will definitely stay here again!
Hotel was very nice and kept to a high standard Rooms are very comfy Food was outstanding And the staff are very helpful Parking is free to the hotel and secure Overall very happy
Just wonderful. Loved the dining igloo bubbles. Beautiful attention to detail in the outside dining area. So Relaxing. The staff and owners are so joyful and uplifting people you can't help but enjoy yourself.
Visited York for my husbands surprise birthday weekend. Very clean rooms, very friendly staff. However, very noisy and disturbing for even deep sleepers like my husband. Room shakes literally when someone else on the same floor closes their More
We liked everything we ate: it was well prepared and refined We sincerely had a great evening. This place is suitable for a romantic evening as well as for a business meeting. To go on all occasions! Enjoy your meal
Lovely old hotel style with a modern flourish. Very friendly staff, delicious food and within walking distance of the famous walls around York and pedestrian shopping area
Omg amazing .Absolutely loved my stay great staff and met the manager today .Would definitely recommend this place gorgeous decor immaculate and unique. Will certainly return its first class and so are the staff and management Thank you
What a shame our stay was spoiled upon finding hotel not suitable for elderly and infirm.Visiting as guests of wedding party, special request made for ground floor room suitable for 90 year old Great Grandma of the bride who uses a walking cane and has difficulty walking. Despite my visiting The Churchill hotel two days before reservation to verify suitability of room, I was told that as reservation had been booked through hotel booking agency a ground floor room had only been on request basis and no ground floor rooms available. Hotel personnel somewhat sniffy about not booking room direct with hotel and said if this had been done a ground floor room would have been assured. This notwithstanding, I was reassured that access through service door rather than front entrance would be possible which would involve only three steps and direct access to elevator for room on first floor. I was unable to view room as it was occupied at time of visit, but assured this would be suitable. Following a two hour car journey a frail lady was assisted up steep front entrance steps, through very heavy front door to a second heavy door through to a long corridor involving sets of steps and more doors to a rear elevator. Arriving at room horrified to find this was a windowless attic room with ten steps up into the room with no hand rail. Very pleasant receptionist listened to complaint but said nothing she could do as hotel fully booked.
Exceptional choice, walking distance to the city center, very clean, lovely room, polite and helpful staff, we left an ipad in the room after checkout, called hotel 2 days later, they found it and posted it out to us, will definitely be there again, thankyou
This gorgeous and quirky hotel is perfectly located, the staff are exceptional and haven t forgotten the art of brilliant customer service despite these unusual times. We dined in a pod outside, that was toasty, cosy and the food delicious. Can t recommend this wonderful place more highly, especially for a quick escape!
We were greeted in a very friendly and accommodating manner, upgraded to our booked room and stayed at the Admirals Suite. The breakfast was convincing. We will gladly come back.
A beautiful hotel set in an old mansion house. Friendly staff with great local knowledge who really wkrk hard to make you feel welcome. Limited parking so arrive early if possible. Lovely hotel, 5 minutes walk from York Minster.
Only went there for a quick drink but ended up having a wood fired pizza in the beer garden, which was excellent. We would of been lost without help from James & Oscar..true gentlemen, which nothing was to much trouble for them, even though the place was so busy. Definitely be calling again
Well I just walk by the hotel and my parents thinks that it has a nice view so we went in to have dinner. The inside was decorated beautifully with music played throughout, it is a very romantic place for dining. It's quiet and peaceful the staff and waitress were have good manners and are friendly. The waitress was very patient and slowly explained the whole menu to me. It's HIGH CLASS. We ordered ribeye steak and smoked salmon sandwich, it's both delicious!!! Steak cook to medium rare that's what I recommend. Highly recommend this restaurant!!!
