If in York and want to stay close to the center of town but far away from too much commotion this was a charming find. About a 10-15 minute walk to the center and well equipped with a nice restaurant. Would recommend again.

The hotel is located a short walk from the city centre and is in its own enclosed garden. The room we stayed in was spotlessly clean and very well furnished. The bar was nice and the restaurant is excellent. The food is amazing and very well priced. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Can't wait to go back.

Stayed for one night and recall liked the place. Our room was very hot, thankfully there was a desk fan to keep the temperature down. The room we were given was overlooking the bins which meant this generated sound when they were in use.

Disappointing anniversary stay. Husband upgraded to themed room. Stay was in 'bunker' room in basement with no window/natural light, dark decor & poor lighting. Felt almost claustrophobic. Might be an idea to run this by guests before allocating room or put more info on website. Also first night water problem at hotel became apparent when trying to shower. On reporting, staff already knew about problem & work was being done on fix. No warning to guests & poor when no hot running water after using the loo. I accept problems occur but it's how they are handled that makes a difference. Should have told guests when they knew of the problem & provided hand sanitizer or wipes in interim. "Sorry there's nothing we can do till fixed" doesn't quite cut it for me.

It would have been a nice customer service gesture after the water problem to maybe let off the car parking charges.

Lovely hotel, just like the photos. I stayed here with another couple and we chose the 'small double' rooms as we got a fairly good price for the rooms midweek. I would say the rooms are a good size, don't let the 'small' put you off. The bed was extremely comfortable, shower had good power. My only criticism is that the rooms were very warm but we just opened a window.
After a day of sightseeing in York (the hotel is less that a 10 minute walk away from the centre) we opted to eat in the hotel rather than walking back into town. The food was excellent and I am a little bit disappointed that I didn't leave room for dessert!
I would absolutely stay here again and recommend this hotel!

Stayed in the bottom floor rooms, had a large room as standard withalargr bathroom and plenty of room in the room. The hotel was friendly, reception very nice and helpful and the parking was ideal for what we required. The hotel is fairly central, with a roughly 10 minute walk (if that!) to get to the Minster and the rest of the city and other walking routes were given to get to the railway museum as well as a number of other attractions. The hotel was very nice, though could maybe do with a thicker pillow for me personally. All in a ll a good hotel, would recommend for exploring York as a base for exploration!

My partner and I stayed here on a 2 night break in august. Although I liked the room in the lower basement,I feel that lighting is a problem.we were lucky it was in summer and quite bright outside, however the small window did not provide sufficient light for the room of its size,I feel maybe more spots could be added as 5 simply is not enough!we did enjoy our stay and the location is perfect for walking into town,as I have mobility issues but I feel we would not rebook because of the issues I raised

We could not be happier with our stay at the Churchill Arms over Christmas. John and the team made us feel so welcomed and accommodated our last minute request to come and stay. In what has been a difficult year for all the staff at the Churchill Arms went out of their way to be thoughtful and ensure that everyone had a safe stay. The igloos were great fun, the Christmas dinner was delicious and the pizzas were fab! This place deserves more than 5 stars!

Great!

Loved the food and wine here, and the garden, whether you are on the tables or in the igloos, is beautiful and they have gas burners to keep everyone warm, and blankets too! Will be back when it opens again! Thanks to the staff for a great night.

Quaint, romantic and moody. The shower with back massage facility made me cancel my booking for a massage in-town. It was purely Devine and relaxing! The hotel restaurant food was also very nice. Only feedback is could have had a noise-less beds as if your turning around in the middle of the night, it has quite a creekyness to it.

It is a convenient location just a 10-minute walk to the famous cathedral, and the exterior has the taste of a historic residence. However, even during Easter holidays, twin rooms with skylights only and no windows on More

The Churchill is a beautiful hotel in York. Stayed for just one night on our journey, but certainly would stay again. The accommodations were very nice, clean rooms and very good restaurant. The staff at the Churchill were so kind and helpful! We got to check-in a little early, and the front desk helped us navigate the town to make the most of our stay. Great place, truly loved it.

Went for drinks, didn't have a booking but a lovely lady squeezed us in. Drinks were ordered from the app and came very quickly and staff were very helpful. Lovely vibe and chilled atmosphere.

The people at the front desk were very welcoming, the rooms were small, there was no air conditioning, but there were special features, the US Air Force office in the UK during the 2 wars!

We stayed here during a two day break in York. I have stayed in many hotels in many countries and the welcome we received here has to be one of the best I have ever experienced. The gentleman who checked us us was just brilliant. Friendly, helpful and informative, he even took us personally to our room after taking the time to recommend a few places to add to our to see list as this was my first time in York.
We had an evening meal in the restaurant which was excellent and breakfast in the morning which was also just as good. (Completions the Chef s).

I will be going back to York again soon, and will be checking into the Churchill again.
Thank you all for making us so welcome.
