Good food and beer with great service and excellent location.

Nice pub with a good selection of drinks. Fantastic beer garden which is beautiful in the sun overlooked by the parish church. Nice secure play area for small children.

Fantastic meals in a lovely location. It's an up market pub/restaurant and the food certainly matches it! Very attentive staff and Phillippa the land lady has always been very accommodating, whether we've come along last minute or booked in advance. The food is absolutely delicious, cooked straight from the coals and bursting with flavour! This place is a must visit.

Extremely good service, food was great, clearly a chef who aims to set himself apart!

I'm not the biggest fan of lamb but thought I would try the lamb scotch egg which was simply amazing followed by the rare beef spicy taco which was beautiful. I can strongly recommend this place and so would my family.

Nice looking place, but a real shame about the attitude of some of the bar staff.

Absolutely wonderful seasonal top quality food that never disappoints, top notch service, picturesque location and very reasonably priced food and drink...the Bushel and Strike is, without a doubt, our favourite place to eat and drink.

Very tasty and enjoyable meal although the restaurant is noisy from the conversations of the other diners.

The Bushel and Strike is a great example of a well run village pub. It is large enough that there is nearly always seating available both inside and outside. Again, as a larger pub, it serves a great selection of lagers, ales, sprits and wine. The pub is located in a beautiful village opposite the large Ashwell Church. The locals are friendly and welcoming. The pub often accommodates patrons with dogs, so please keep this in mind if you are not fond of them (dogs I mean).

Great food and reasonably priced some local ciders / ales and a new rum of the week definitely would recommend. Dog friendly too with dog biscuits at the bar lovely touch

Great staff and lovely food based in the picturesque village of Ashwell.

Love that the garden overlooks the church. Their tacos were very good, pizzas not so much. But all the starters were really good.

Very good, and for once great tasting freshly made food. They need good staff to help them or they will loose customers as they cannot do everything themselves.

I take my family here regularly and considering they have a strong bbq focus was really surprised that they cater for vegans/vegetarians. Phillipa the manager really knew the menu and took her time explaining what we could and couldn t have. (We have quite a few allergies too!) Great knowledge of wines to accompany the meals and all round good service.

We had our wedding at the Bushel yesterday, Lucy and her team were amazing!! Martin's cooking was outstanding - went everyone compliments it you know it's not just you saying it. We'd do it all over again!!!

Seems to be more a BBQ tapas style. Wasn't really a fan to be honest. I like to eat my food off a plate not a chopping board.

Just had the most amazing meal at the bushel and strike. My partner and step childrens first time there and went for my partners birthday. Service and food are second to none. Very attentive to customer service. Will be back again very soon. Thank you for a fantastic meal and fantastic service from all the staff

Welcoming atmosphere and very dog friendly. Free dog biscuits at the bar and staff will get your dog a water bowl. Good selection of human food and a range of places to sit.

Had a meal at this excellent restaurant with a bridal party, night before my daughter's wedding. Fab food, excellent service and great ambience. Will definitely return to Ashwell just to eat here again

Fantastic pub and restaurant in a very competitive environment. Their food is good, tasty and well presented. Good selection of drinks. Outside garden with a play space for children. Ask for a Tinto, local-ish speciality brought back from Spain by some residents of the village.

Had the full rack of ribs, which was amazing. Loved the unique style of the desserts, but so many to choose from. Will have to go back and try some more next time

Food delicious, great place for large parties. Service was a little slow, we weren t in a rush but it meant we all got our meals quite a few minutes apart. Their menu which states bbq doesn t do the food justice - it s cooked on a big green egg so was succulent and full of flavour - not the sort of food I associate with a normal bbq!

Lovely, Well kept pub with delicious food. They were rather busy but very accommodating. I would advise booking in advance if you plan to eat there. I had the Mediterranean vegetable pizza which was totally delicious and my bf had the bushel burger- it was huge! The waitresses were very busy, but super lovely and friendly throughout

Superb cooking. Innovative and tasty. The chef obviously escaped from somewhere exceptional, but charges down to earth prices in a traditional pub setting. Pleasant and courteous table service.

Nice pub, nice location. Staff are polite, friendly and hard working. Only 2 stars due to management. Overheard the manageress berating a couple of female staff. Not pleasant to hear and embarrassing for them. Intended to tell her so but she stomped off and didn't return. Will not return until I hear it's under new management.

We had a fanstastic meal here last night. The new owners have 2 indoor coal bbqs and are obviously very passionate about their food. It was lovely to see pub grub with a sophisticated bbq twist. We had the steak salad, which was filling and the meat was cooked to perfection and had a wonderful bbq flavour. There is a great selection of sides and bar snacks. The prices are very reasonable, more or less what you would expect at a nice pub. The pub area is cozy and the restaurant area is stunningly decorated. We look forward to coming back again soon - we want to see what that outdoor bbq can do!

Under new management. Food is now average at best and appalling customer service. In just over an hour and a half we had a round of drinks served to us and our starters, no sign of any main courses and when we asked they hadn t even started cooking them. We asked for the bill and left. Ruined a much anticipated birthday meal.

What a great find! Lovely staff, couldn't of gone out of there way anymore to accommodate us! Grate location and beautifully finished decor. I'm a chef so pleasing me can be quite a challenge, but the menu is great, seasonal and well balanced. I ordered a blue steak that was perfectly cooked and great quality! Would highly recommend this pub. Also the beer is fantastic and very well kept!! Thank you for a wonderful evening!!
