Excellent solicitors , very helpful even in these difficult times .

My experience with Curwens and Matthew Taylor has not been positive. My transaction was the most vanilla it could be: myself the buyer had no chain, the seller had no chain, mortgage offer from Nationwide issued quite quickly and I was purchasing a freehold property... For a full month I could not get in touch with Matthew - he didn't reply to emails, when I called his direct line it was never picked up and voicemails I left were not followed up (occasionally the voicemails box was even full and I could not leave a voicemail) and when I called the office and asked to be put through to Matthew, they wouldn't be able to transfer me as Matthew was either not available or in meetings... and he did not come back to me during that month either. To make things worse he sent enquiries to the wrong selling solicitor which caused a 2 week delay and this was only picked up upon my repeated insistence when I was despairing. In the end the transaction went through with only 1 week spare before I had to vacate my rental accommodation, despite allowing myself plenty of time before handing in my rental notice. Matthew's lack of communication and his mistake emailing the wrong socilitor caused me lots of stress and my sleep suffered on many nights... I have raised a complaint and asked for reasonable compensation and after 10 weeks of raising the complaint, the main partner Alan Carter still has not come back to me. Now I'm having to contact the Legal Ombudsman to follow this up.

Curwens is not taking responsibility for the subservice they provided to me, the mistakes and the stress. I feel they just took the money and don't care about the subservice and the undue stress they caused to me.

Matthew and team were amazing on my recent sale. They were efficient and extremely professional. Would highly recommend and will definitely be using them in the future!

I have used Curwens (through a few name changes) for many years now. Whilst the conveyancing was successful their communication has deteriorated noticeably over the years. It is now commonplace to be transferred to an internal voicemail during business hours and messages left asking for a response were not always replied to, even after a couple of days.

Matthew was fantastic throughout the process of selling my home. Diligent, polite and answered emails very quickly. A pleasure to work with.

We have used Curwen's for many years now for all personal and company business and have always had great service from friendly and efficient teams within the business.
We have recently sold one of our office premises and engaged Curwen's to deal with this for us.
The process was very drawn out due to several bank solicitors for the buyer which was rather frustrating for us but Julie Hussey and the team at Curwen's Hoddesdon were completely on the ball at all times, giving relevant information & chasing the buyers solicitors, totally professional at all times keeping us informed as to where things were regarding the sale.

Matthew was exemplary in what turned out to be a tricky purchase. Despite a number of curveballs thrown by the sellers solicitor at the last minute Matthew was unflappable in a crisis and I would not hesitate to use him again and again.
