The Boulevard Coffee Roasting Co. Review

This place used to be 5 stars but, as a regular customer who frequented this cafe for its signature chocolate chip cookies, I've noticed a significant decline in the quality of its food items. Before, these cookies used to melt in the mouth with gooey buttery texture but now, they're very dry, cold, and brittle. I'm getting a creeping suspicion that this cafe has chosen to cut back on their expenditures for compromised quality. :(

I have just bought a freshly roasted coffee bean here because I have emptied the bean bag I brought from home. I have just sipped the newly bought coffee before writing this review. To my surprise, the taste is not as expected from a freshly roasted premium arabica coffee beans and I am disappointed. It provided the caffeine kick I need, but not the rich, sweet-fruity flavor of highland arabica coffee I love. I personally think that Papua produces one of the best arabica coffee beans I have ever tasted, but that doesn't apply to these beans I bought from The Boulevard. This may be due to the roasting profile that is a bit too dark? To me, currently it tastes similar to robusta coffee, which is not bad, but costs much less.

Great spot to study on UBC campus. The coffee and pastries are great. Also a great place to get coffee beans to brew at home

This is coffee shop has the best drip coffee. Also have a good selection of sandwiches and bakery goods.

It's a nice cozy place, with great staff! I didn't like my cake (chocolate banana bread) and they made a refund right away and also gave me a coupon for a free coffee on top! Amazing customer service :)

Always a great place to study. Nice ambience, playlists move through a variety of genres but mainly alt indie. Coffee is cheap but food, like most cafes, a bit pricey. Fast service. Also a good place for a chat.

I love this cafe! The Lilly tea is my favorite. And when my friend asked for a dry cappuccino and there was some confusion over how to make it a worker,who was on his break, jumped in and showed everyone how to make it. Amazing service!

A bit pricey but very good banana loafs and a perfect Italian style Cappuccino (the best I tried outside Italy). Good quality coffee beans as well!

Such a nice atmosphere! Comfiest chairs, and the Syphon coffee was quite the experience! Really loved it. Didn't need a second cup of coffee all day!!

Coffee was delicious but the cinammon bun I got felt pretty stale even after being reheated.

Good coffee, mediocre service. Impressive selection of snacks and baked goods including breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit and yogurt cups. Nice atmosphere for studying but not a lot of table room!

Next time I'll take pictures, but I love this cafe. It's very accessible and located near many of the UBC bus stops, namely the stop outside the UBC hospital.

Really good portion of food in terms of sandwiches, they run about 10$ average and that's pretty standard for a cafe, but it is notable that the sandwiches are definitely worth the price. They are packed full of stuff!

Coffee is really well done-- my favourite is the Vietnamese latte and I highly recommend it for those looking for something light, but extremely flavourful. It's not sweet like many lattes can be, so if you've got more of a salty tooth (not the sweet tooth :P) I can't recommend this enough.

Nice vintage coffee machine, good strong coffee, nice cups, however, the coffee was quickly cold, it was pricey and only a single toilet. Overall prosperity 3 reeten

Probably the best cup of coffee on campus, (not saying much) but it varies substantially from day to day.

Ok selection of drinks. Disappointed with staff almost every time I go though. I ve ignored, left waiting at the counter for 5-10 minutes, and had pretty rude experiences with cashier. Definitely had better experiences at other coffee shops around campus

Update: two times in the last month their scones felt like eating cookie dough.
Always excellent coffee. Scones are great too, in fact sometimes they run out of them towards the end of the day.

Coffee shop. Dues a nice brew. Popular with local students. Not many cakes available when we visited - sat afternoon around 6.

Love their beverages, prices are decent and they have a great tea selection. Worth noting that teas are the same price for any size. The inside of the shop is nicely decorated and laid out and people working here have always been friendly.

Coffee and sandwiches are pretty good, but almost impossible to find a place to sit

Got a large mocha and Canadian bacon breakfast sandwich. Was very enjoyable. Staff is super friendly. Some might consider a little pricey but worth the visit.

Easily in the top 3 for best tasting coffee in Vancouver. The mocha and Vietnamese latte here are my favorites. The Omega loaf is phenomenal as well! Though some of the other pastries aren't as great.

Note: their medium is just 12oz (vs a 16oz grande at places like Starbucks), but it's so worth it!

Good iced decaf. Cookie was fine. They have good public health measures in place.

Their sandwiches and wraps are tasty, especially when toasted. If you aren't in the mood for coffee, try their italian sodas! The delicious_club's favourite coffee spot in Vancouver!

Mocha here is nice, apple pie too. Good environment and friendly staff.

I have been tried Richmond Little Fox Bakey they had JJbeans coffee really good taste smooth mouth wash coffee I never had it before

Very unique cafe for those who want to go someplace other than a Starbucks. Has a good variety of coffees and drinks as well as good pastries. Also has old roasting machines as part of the decor! A plus!

I can't say much about its quality because I am not very fond of coffee, but it has a good view and is a good place for hangout with friends

Used to be my favorite place, in the last few weeks I've been disappointed. The sandwich I used to get almost every day was cold and tasted stale and off, I couldn't finish it. Went in today in the afternoon (I usually go in in the morning) and found the staff completely different. Ignored me as I waited at the front counter, which was a mess, and then used a paper cup to measure coffee into my reusable mug. What a pointless waste, when my cup even had clear measurements on it.

The coffee is delicious and the baked goods/sandwiches are great too. There's a good amount of sitting room and nice ambiance.

Didn't serve us anything ti eat, although they had in the fridge, coz it was for tomorrow!!!!!

Sign says open til 6 but they stop serving coffee much earlier.

Favourite cafe on campus -- best study space, best food selection, and good coffee!

Tried out a siphon coffee for the first time and it was good. Not too loud.

Just went in to grab some beans for my espresso machine at home. Staff was super friendly and informative. Bag of beans came with a free coffee which is really nice smoothe flavour.
I got 2 scones as well which were still hot out of the oven and the chocolate still melted.
I look forward to testing out the freshly roasted beans later today.
FYI.. if you like the freshest beans restock on Wednesday.

Came by this morning on my way to work. Ordered a small coffee of the day and a chocolate chip cookie. Wow! The coffee was so flavourful with a fruity after taste. From their sign I could see that they specialize in Fair trade coffee and roast it on site. The cashier even offered to warm up my cookie! I was so surprised by this service. The only drawback to this coffee shop is the metal rails installed to keep their customers in line. Too rigid for my comfort. Their selection of sweets were very tempting but a bit pricey. Glad I don't work in the neighborhood often I'd end up broke in no time. Lol! My coffee and cookie was $5.25 If you're in the area try one of their coffees of the day. Its that good.

The scones are awesome and the art is great. It's very noisy in here though and kinda slow. It's nice sitting outside.

A better roast than most other places on campus. It's a nice atmosphere to be with friends but acoustics can be disturbing if the place is packed. They also sell whole beans but the prices are quite steep for the amount you get. A little unexpected because their owner is a former student and their ethos seems to be geared towards introducing students to freshly roasted coffee. Their food options are also quite narrow and pricey but this is more understandable give that it is primarily a roasting house. The website could also use an update, especially to reflect price changes so as not to mislead potential customers.

Coffee roasted in house, modern, rustic, alternative and tasteful. Friendly service and solid hours. Love this place! Support local businesses and get your coffee and baked goods here, you won't regret it

Mixed feelings. On one hand, the service was impeccable and the ambiance was very nice. On the other, the coffee was very over roasted (burnt) to my taste. Can't say I'll be going back.

they take great precautions for COVID19 and their staff are incredibly kind and welcoming. I do however feel like they could do better as a team since only one person was at the cashier when I was there. Their coffee was amazing too!
