It's just a bit 'locals' pub, although everyone is very friendly.

Very friendly, handy for walking stop at Tring reservoirs, nice tractor in pub garden and great cider..
Nice staff. Good drinks and next to a canal and reservoir. Nice!
Lovely place to go with your family and dogs welcome ,food was above average although was a bit of a wait x
Fantastic afternoon with Alvin at the Anglers Retreat bar staff waitresses and food absolutely wonderful best ham of ever tasted
Lovely canalside pub with beer garden. Birds and a tractor to keep kids entertained
Food amazing. Kids menu particularly good value. Ice cream good too.
It isn t quite by the canal and do not confuse with the closed down pub just a bit further on the road.
Food was good friendly staff, however beer was over priced we are now in London and it's cheaper
Tables to close together in garden and walkways to narrow. So much junk hanging around which could have freed up space. No hand gel on arrival. Tables were dirty. I wiped mine with a wipe from my bag which turned brown. Teenage girls serving food with no aprons no gloves no facial protection. The clearing tables but not wiping them. I saw two lots of people come and go on one table and it not get wired one. Not sure if the toilets were working but there was a portaloo for ladies in the carpark along with skip shipping containers. Just generally unkempt. Decided not eat
Brilliant place, friendly staff my favourite pub and Bed and Breakfast
A charming little country pub near the river with a beautiful garden and aviary
Great food, great staff. Cosy and traditional. All around amazing pub.
Great pub good atmosphere excellent food but you must like dogs
This place is very dog friendly. It's right by the reservoir and the canal, so a great place for dogs. I'm writing this review in December and they were very happy to let us keep our dog inside by the fire and have our dinner. The food was lovely too and they serve a lovely steak.
Great atmosphere and friendly pub very helpful staff.
Love this pub got to take dog to pub food was great
Came in for dinner off a canal boat. Real home cooked liver and bacon, really tender and tasty. friendly staff and amusing perfect new Zealand landlady. Beer well kept and the right temperature. Good covid measures with regular table sanitizing. If we lived here this would be our regular local.
Lovely meal, friendly service, great way to spend a bank holiday Monday, will defiantly be back !!
Friendly staff. Food was average but the whole evening was ruined by regulars sitting at the bar and constantly swearing.
Wish there were more pubs like this about. Been going to the anglers for a long time but I'm not a local. The garden has been revamped with large umbrellas but it's lost none of its old character. Food is nice and the staff are too. A good honest pub.
This place had nice food which wasn't too expensive and the garden was a lovely place to sit and relax. Unfortunately there was nothing amazing that would draw me back. If I was in the area then I might go again but not somewhere I would travel to.
Good pub, live music and open mic nights are fun. Good and drink are to a good atandered.
The food. Had a super salmon off the blackboard - a succulent thick chunk of salmon served on crushed potatoes (skins on potatoes added flavour). The green beans were just right - still a little crunchy and the dish was served with plenty of hollandaise sauce. Great value place to eat.
Love this pub good beer good food great staff very friendly and very busy, but you must like dogs
Good location near the canal. Service was generally good.
A lovely little pub service is awesome and the food was excellent highly recommended
Day out watching Elvis tribute singer watched by packed garden full of people having a great dayout
Nice welcome, food seems very popular. Good outside sitting area. Dog and bird friendly.
Excellent food and drinks lovely place to be after a long walk
Delicious soup, although they had run out of brown bread.
Very atmospheric pub. You can eat a delicious dinner, breakfast or have a drink. Very friendly owners and service. Ability to stay overnight in the b & b. Thursdays live music.I highly recommend this place.
One of the best fish and chips home made tarter sauce
Okay for a pint after a stroll along the Grand Union canal and Marsworth reservoirs.
Lovely venue; great staff, fab weather! Perfect for reservoir walk after!
Friendly establishment good food good beer good entertainment.
Nice pub friendly staff great ale never eaten in there but food looks good live music on occasions and a,wood fired pizza oven whats not to like
Photo is from the reservoir just across the road nice short walk round them if you fancy .
Awesome to find a proper pub with genuine home cooked food. Great atmosphere even in these strange times. Thanks!
Lovely pub, nice food and at a good price. Dog friendly.Staff very polite .Definitely go again and tell my friends.
Lovely friendly pub. Good food and our dog was made very welcome.
Initially we sat outside but were invited to sit inside with the dog. She was given a big dog biscuit and made a fuss of.
Will definitely be going back
Nice local, good atmosphere. Friendly. Beer ok. Food ok, although it did seem like it was mostly from frozen.
This is the way pubs used to be years ago - Down to earth people - a real traditional pub environment - Sensible prices and really good fun!
Good pub, home cooked food set in lovely surroundings. A great place for live music.
Pure Elizabethan splendour. The girls and I took a delightful spring ecoeetreat to this gorgeous historical gastro pub to enjoy the town. 16 years and still the best bloomin cooked brekkie in Tring - probably all of Hertfordshire if I think about it wholeheartedly. Kinda love the goofy little sauces - Elizabethan meets modern.
Bravo Sheila
A great place to visit after a walk round the reservoir or along the canal. Good food, the beer is always well kept and there's a dog friendly beer garden. What's not to like?
Very friendly staff. Cozy place. Nice food. Great local crowd. Good location if you plan a weekend walk by the reservoir.
Lovely food nice and fresh vegetables..only downside the people smoking outside it would be great if they sat in a separate area
Excellent friendly good food and beautiful accommodation highly recommended
Pauline and her husband are fabulous hosts! I stayed the night and got made to feel very welcome.
The food at the pub is good and has a good variety for vegans and vegetarians. Their outside terrace is accessible and with a little ramp the inside is semi accessible to those who use wheelchairs..
Had a lovely afternoon here a couple of months ago.. Sarah, who served us.. is definitely a great assist to the business. Made us feel very welcome, will definitely be returning soon..
Stayed here for a couple of nights and would thoroughly recommend it. The accommodation is in a 'cottage' separate from the pub and is very quite and comfortable, good comfy bed and spacious bathroom with plenty of hot water!
The pub itself offers good local beers and excellent, tasty, value for money meals. The cooked to order breakfast was far better than that offered by expensive Hotels.
I didn't go there ... I just walked the reservoirs lol .... but been there before and it is great x
Very nice food. Very fresh and certainly seems home made. A little cramped for space but very nice pub food. In fact after 2 visits we would highly recommend this place.
Very friendly little pub. Food good and reasonably priced.
Upon arriving we were treated to a stern, abrupt & cold welcome. We were then taken to the building where our room was situated.Strict instructions were issued that there were 2 cats that under no circumstances were to be allowed out so we were to ensure to check on leaving or entering the building that these instructions were strictly adhered to.When reaching our room & the door being unlocked we were met with the overwhelming stench of cat urine which caught in our throat & made us feel nauseous. No guest information, guidance or advice given as to where to take breakfast in the morning & what was on offer, possible Wi-Fi code or where to go for help.
Not all bad,a beautiful setting,in a beautiful typically English village though.
Great food, great beer, great staff and atmosphere
Had a lovely stay here with family, rooms were clean and tidy, great price and friendly owners and staff
Loved this local English pub! Great atmosphere and prices. We went on a Sunday and had the Sunday roast which was very good with a huge portion! Atmosphere was buzzing with locals and others.. great vibe! Dog friendly too!
Great little find on the way back from the peek district. Great food and a lovely open fire...10/10
Lovely little pub by the river, lovely food and beer garden.
the food we ordered was a meat pie and veg the pie was very dry no meat and small and veg was raw and not happy with the food but when mentioned to a member of staff they was happy to give me a refund
Lovely little pub with good food in the village of Marsworth near tring right next to the canal.
Excellent value friendly local. Nice home-made food, reasonably priced. Busy and buzzy, very welcoming.
