What some people dont realize. Especially when it comes to a grilled cheese sandwich and a burger, trying to be cheap at a fancy restaraunt just may not be for you, especially on new years eve. The service is above the norm, the food is phenomenal. This place is owned by a renowned chef and you get surprised because you ordered a grilled cheese for $13 instead of the salmon or chicken platter. This complaint is at the least acknowledgable let alone your sour remark of the cuisine is not even worth a simple HA to comply with your skepticism. IF YOUR ON A BUDGET AND ALL YOU WANT IS A BURGER N GRILLED CHEESE AND WANT TO COMPARE THIS SPOT TO IN N OUT THEN MAYBE YOUR LACK OF BUDGET HAVIN ASS NEEDS TO STAY IN THE DRIVE THRU LINE!
Good food but extremely noisy and I mean extremely noisy. Very difficult to carry on a conversation.
Consistently an outstanding experience at Tarbells! This has long been one of our go-to places for family or business guests. Service and food are consistently outstanding.
I had a Magnificent Mother's Day dinner at Tarbell's My son and I started with their fantastic Caesar salad (which they were more than happy to split for us). In fact, the chefs will create anything for you, and the service is impeccable! Everyone is so warm and relaxed. They make you feel right at home as you experience the elegance and evidence of a restaurant owned and operated by an Iron Chef America Champion and all of the national awards. Choosing a wine is effortless since Mark Tarbell is a wine connoisseur (has a wine store next door, writes a wine column) and has the perfect pairings or suggestions. The Gnocchi with Lobster is spectacular! It had the freshest, sweetest tomatoes cooked to perfection, just like the gnocchi & lobster, in a light creamy sauce. I also have to mention their special touches, like their housemade Tahini cumin hummus and chips, when we were seated and the individually wrapped lemon cookies as we left. Our friends, who dined there last week, received individually wrapped pieces of banana bread as they left. Tarbell's is very special and innovative, upscale yet relaxed.
Great food, a little heavy but that is their style.
Food and service were excellent. Casual ambiance with meticulous attention to detail.
Tarbell's has a unique environment that one can dine either casually or formally and do either comfortably as the service is excellent.
One of if not the best places for service and quality in Phoenix
I think it really is the best BLT in Phoenix. Really nice place. Perfect service. Thanks Mark!
Outstanding. We spent the afternoon first on the Tavern side, finished with dinner in the restaurant. Service was great from start to finish. Had the grilled NY Strip which was perfectly done. Visiting Phoenix for work, will be back here with family when on vacation.
Their website describes their restaurant as "Caviar with a Side of Spaghetti." The menu is varied and no matter what you order, it will be prepared better than nearly any other restaurant in the Valley does it. My most recent dining experience was on a Thursday night and the noise level was a bit high due to a networking event, so if you are looking to enjoy a nice, quiet, elegant meal - this place delivers, but you may want to call ahead.
Tarbell's is the perfect blend - fine dining with a relaxed vibe. Made a last-minute reservation (wearing sneakers, no time to change!) and they were able to accommodate us early. Our server was excellent, providing sound recommendations. The Scotch beef was beloved, the seafood pot au feu with crispy potato dumplings was spot on, and the sticky date cake...oh the date cake...
american food at this location - very tasty. Stopped in on a Tuesday. Looking forward to coming back with my relatives.
We had a very nice time with our friends. Cozy and top notch.
Yummy scallops and perfect risotto couldn t be better - but then came the best ever cheesecake and super smooth chocolate moose.
So I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and Mr Tarbell reasonable priced Amazing food. designed to be a romantic spot. Huge bar area. And two different seating area. You Never Know what STARS you may see :)
Food was top notch all the way, got to try the basil pesto pizza, mark's spaghetti and meatball, French bean soup, then a bite of the cheese cake and bread pudding, all were some of the best you could have anywhere
The flavors and service were great. My wife thought her fish plate was a bit on the small side. The restaurant can get busy and noisy on a Saturday night. Parking can get tight since the parking lot is small and there are maybe 4 restaurants in the shopping center.
One of my preferred spots for tasty American food. Arrived at seven, it wasn't crowded. Looking forward to coming back with my relatives. Prices that won't shock you.
Did a private event here and couldn't be more impressed. The chef worked with us to create custom dishes to pair with our wine, it was inspiring! Great place to take a date as well. Just eat at the bar for a quick snack/wine.
My wife and I have been coming to Tarbell's for a few years now and have made it our go to celebration eatery. The food is fantastic and, in my opinion reasonably priced, and the variety of offerings is superb. Their seafood is flown I daily and is of fantastic quality. My favorite dish is the scallops. They are soft, perfectly cooked and delicious. The other surprising, but welcome, aspect of Tarbell's is there unique and super yummy mixed drinks. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, but not to casual. You will be equally at home in a suit or slacks and a polo. All in all, Tarbell's is an exceptional restaurant that offers strong value and great food with super service.
Nice spot for delicious american food. Got there near seven, it wasn't very crowded. I had a brother come into town and he asked me to go back here. Similar to a cafe in Las Vegas I liked.
Was seated at this restaurant when we had reservations at a different location by the hostess so we missed the reservations at another place. The food was wildly expensive with some options up to $85 and portions were small. I had the burger and was so disappointed by it that I d rather have paid the same price for an In-N-Out burger than this one. Our waitress recommended an $18 ball of cheese as an appetizer that had no taste. The second star is for the wait staff that gave amazing service.
My wife and I had lunch here yesterday. The bill was $115 including tip, but I think we got our money's worth. I'd eat here every day if we could afford it. I had scallops cerviche and a lobster roll. Both were far superior to anything like this I have eaten anywhere. And the lobster roll was especially generous with many large pieces of lobster cooked and seasoned just right. My wife had sweet potato soup which was outstanding and a BLT--billed as best BLT in the valley-- that was very very good, but now at the level of the other items.Serviec was pleasant and competent but unexceptional.
The scotch beef and salted caramel cheesecake were phenomenal, but mommas mac and cheese left something to be desired. Overall still a solid 4 stars.
Tarbell s restaurant is one of the most unique experiences that you can have in Arizona. From the time you walk in you know that it is going to be special. The wait staff is very attentive and friendly. The food is so amazing that you will crave it till the next time that you go back. They use the freshest ingredients and come up with the most creative dishes. Chef Mark Tarbell is one of a kind. So happy to call this our favorite restaurant! Great for special occasions, date night or to take your whole family!
Just went in for a cocktail. It was tasty, however, I prefer a fresh made Manhattan over one poured out of the tap. Looking forward to going back for dinner soon!
I love Tarbell's! The service is great; right there without being intrusive. The food? It comes from Mark Tarbell's kitchen; it is the best. The guys dined on Scotch Beef, the ladies had scallops. It was creme brulee for dessert. Thanks for a great, relaxed, evening.
Ask for half orders. You will regret life choices if you have no room for dessert. Ask for lemon wedges for the shishito peppers. They need just a touch of acid. Everything else on the menu is spot on! Seriously, if you like lots of courses like I do, get half portions of most things...dessert excluded, obviously.
Great place with amazing wine list and food for a special night.
We went to Tarbell's for the first time tonight. It was our anniversary and we could not have been treated better! I had the steak, it was a thick, juicy NY strip cooked exactly to "medium rare plus". My wife had the risotto that was creamy, buttery, and appropriately rich. The deserts were excellent! The service was amazingly attentive but not annoying. I am so glad we randomly chose Tarbell's for our anniversary!
We have been going to Tarbell s for NYE since 2008. It s our tradition. This year we brought a friend with us. Every time I get the Salmon which has a molasses lime sauce, crispy potato cake & greens. The husband changes it up each year, however this year he went with the Salmon as well. We also treat ourselves to one of their amazing desserts. I tend to get the cheesecake and he gets the bread pudding with bourbon sauce. In years different table items at the beginning of the meal, bread and their amazing chickpeas. This year it was hummus and crispy pita bread. It was so bland and not very good that no one at the table really ate it. The Salmon was overcooked this year and for the 1st time I had to use a knife to cut it. The potato cake was the size of the plate, normally it s been smaller and in the middle of the plate under the greens and Salmon, that way it soaks up some of the sauce. This year it just crumbled off the plate onto the table making it more of a nuisance than a nice added crunch. The husband felt the same way. The friend got the Mark s Famous Spaghetti, he was feeling under the weather but liked it. The desserts are normally an amazing experience. My cheesecake was so cold it felt like it was straight out of the freezer and lacked the smoothness it normally has. I took most of it home and still have not gone back to finish it. The husband's bread pudding was disappointing. The sauce was too strong that it overpowered the whole dessert and he didn t finish it. The friend got a scoop of chocolate gelato and said it was fine. We decided on our way home that we are going to change where we go for NYE.
Be sure to have a reservation because this is a favorite for Phoenicians. The food is exquisite. Their salmon is served with a paper thin crispy potato underneath. It is beautifully plated and each dish lives up it's reputation. This is gourmet all the way!
Still the best upscale neighborhood restaurant in town.
I had the scallops and hubby had the Scotch beef! Both were amazing and the service was unbelievable!
Nice service. Food is well.
american food and the scene here is better than most. Dropped in on Mon I think. The place has a good feel to it. This place has many great reviews for a reason.
Amazing food that you can't find and most restaurants. Between the chef and the food service I'm always impressed and continue to use Tarbell's as the measuring rod when I visit other establishments. The wine store has an amazing selection of wines at a reasonable price, the sommelier is always available and knowledgeable.
A great menu and willing to accommodate all allergies and food preferences. Presentation and service was top notch. Soft shell crabs were deep fried, which was a bit of a disappointment.
The peppered NY strip was good and definitely worth more than 3 stars. HOWEVER, the pizza that we ordered was just plain bad. The sauce had no taste. The meat had very little flavor, and what little flavor there was was bad. What in the world was wrong with the blobs and globs of cheese just randomly placed on the pizza?? The best part of it was the crust because then you could pretend it was bread that they brought to the table. Just so bad I could not believe it. We even passed the pizza around to our group of friends, and watching their reaction to eating their bad slice of pizza was entertaining. So at least there was that. Please don't put this $16 pan-sized personal pizza on your menu alongside your $44 steak if it's going to be that bad. I am really pretty sure that the pizza served in elementary schools on Fridays trumped this... Service was okay. Nothing spectacular.
Wonderful selections of starters and entrees. Desserts are absolutely incredible
Ah-ma-zing. OMG - every morsel I put in my mouth was fantastic!
Great service, great menu and high quality dishes. Decent wine menu as well with a broad range of choices. Loved the cocktails as well.
Whenever my husband and I come to town, this is a must stop. We live between Arizona and San Diego, and I can t say enough wonderful things about this restaurant. Not only is everything on the menu wonderful, the chef is classically trained. I highly recommend, you won t be disappointed.
Mark Tarbell is the original Camelback cooridor chef. Always present, always involved in the community and always presenting cutting edge, delicious..
american food and the atmosphere here is better than most. Fell in love with this place from the 1st taste. I've had nothing but enjoyable experiences here and plan to keep visiting. The place has a great feel to it.
Phenomenal food and service. The Scotch beef and George's scallops did not disappoint. They were out of the strawberry shortcake but the cheesecake was the way to go. Order that 1st!! Kudos to the chef, thanks to our waiter for great service, and the ambiance was perfect for a last min, fancy date night (tho smart casual the common attire).
Great restaurant for good food, service, wine selection and bar. Was expensive but had a great meal.
Went to the tavern, had a terrific meal, good service and prices were reasonable.
Salty complimentary pita hummus spread, watermelon gazpacho soup that tasted like dressing. Wrong temperatures on meats and rubber crab. Manager that dosen't want to listen to a guest experience and rather comp and make the guest feel uncomfortable. Not coming back Half start for the drinks and the apologetic server
Best food and man is it fine dining or what it's the freaking bomb . com
They need to figure out thier Grub hub issues and train thier hostess to find empathy for the client that falls in between the battle if they are signed up with Grub hud or not. All I know is I got caught in the middle and some how the hostess/phone answer person- tried to make it my issue and all got all of it was a service charge from Grub hub and an attempt from the hostess to make Me feel guilty for ordering from Grub hub... not my issue, I got charged anyway from grub hub and didn t receive an apology, any food or an ounce of empathy from the staff at Tarbels. You need to figure this out Tarbels as a client this is not our issue!! Your food is off the charts fantastic, too bad your staff isn t an example of your food. Btw the hostess have had an attitude many times in person as well so this unprofessional attitude does not surprise Me.Disappointing to say the least
Absolutely amazing food and service! Mark Tarbell is a great host and made sure we were satisfied with everything. I don't understand the review that said the food was bland because it was far far from bland. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone who is looking for a romantic evening or just amazing food!
Food was excellent- really enjoyed our steaks and the potato and spinach sides. Not to mention the scotch beef sliders we started with... delicious! Would have been 5 stars, but the check in with the hostess was awkward (she s supposed to greet us right, not the other way around?), and we had to ask for the check to be brought over after sitting for several minutes clearly finished with our meals and with empty beverages.
Nice tavern with great wines and beers. The atmosphere is warm and friendly as is the staff. A good place to relax, drink some wine and eat good food.
This place just never disappoints! My wife had the Bolognese and I had the halibut and they were exceptional. But there is another hidden gem as well! Kyrri is this so me and even if you don t drink wine you should ask for suggestions She loves what she does, is energetic and just does a fantastic job. We cannot recommend her enough! Everything she has ever offered has been spot on.
Excellent food and service. Ate at the bar, the place was jammed. Recommend reservations. Food was stellar.
My wife and I went to Tarbell's to see Blaine Long play and to bring in the new year. She ordered the Grilled cheese with a tomato bisque while I ordered their burger. Her grilled cheese was burnt and only seemed to have enough cheese on it to glue the bread together. For $13 you would think the cheese might be something more impressive than a thin slice of cheddar. Her tomato bisque had the consistency of milky water with just as much flavor. I can't say that the bisque tasted bad as it had no flavor to it at all. I ordered my burger cooked medium and it showed up as ordered, but was so greasy that the bottom bun was falling apart. The "secret sauce" tasted suspiciously like the same sauce you would get at an In-N-Out, while the wilted lettuce appeared to be the same bagged, shredded lettuce that you might see at any fast food kitchen. I've worked in kitchens ranging from diner to catering to 4 star cuisine and would have been embarrassed if food like this left my kitchen.
Excellent food and service. Be prepared to pay extra for all this but what a delightful dining experience!!
Good food, front of house staff very friendly and trying hard, bit the service was very very slow. Arrived 6.30, orders taken 7.15, entree arrived at 8.40. It was busy, but the in the run up to Christmas they should have planned for this, Christmas happens every year!
They were able to accommodate a large party, allowed us to select whatever we wanted from the main menu, allowed us to split the check, allowed me to bring in decorations, and fully helped pull off an epic surprise dinner for a friend. They also were patient and accommodating when it came to food allergies and the needs of each patron I had with me. I had originally planned for 22, but 2 could not make it last minute - 20 people is still a huge crowd and yet the service was flawless. So incredibly grateful for all they did to make this event memorable.
Amazing food and awesome wine list. I had the scallops, wife had the scotch beef. We shared a side of au gratin potatoes. All items were perfectly seasoned and prepared.
Love the food and staff. Highly recommended for a up scale evening.
Like going back to the 1970s, but not in a good way.
TARBELL s use to be a consistently fine dining experience and we have been dining there since they opened and continued to support thru the virus. We have not complained thru all the changes because of the virus situation and believe everyone is trying their best. This is no longer the case with TARBELL s. The staff that answers the phone do not ever know what the deserts are or ingredients in the dishes are. Their menu is limited as in cannot order their fish of the day. They call back as they did not get the credit card info correct. Food quality is diminished. Their Chicken use to be so juicy and flavorful , now over cooked and small portions and tough. I can buy 4 delicious Costco chickens for the same price. Tonight as I was unwell asked my husband to order what he wanted as I cannot cook or eat. He order the Meatball dinner. Only the meatball arrived ...no pasta. The waiter who delivered the food was not wearing a mask. People make mistakes, however, I tried to call them back for an hour and no one answers the phone. Not even sure that where I left a voicemail went thru. Their website to order is difficult to use and you have to keep hitting your choices for them to register. I had to get out of bed to make pasta and reheat the sauce and meatball and veggies. It would have been less stressful, less messy, and less time and far cheaper to have made dinner myself! Thanks for ruining our Sunday! Very sad.
This restaurant offers great views combined with excellent taste! They are located on the first/second floor of a residential holding, it overlooks downtown. I definitely recommended this restaurant to anyone looking for a romantic evening or simply trying out exquisite dishes on the menu. Worth a visit!
This place is always exquisite everything is very fresh good people very nice environment I love it.
How do you compare other restaurants to Tarbells? Its simple. You can't. This is my go-to restaurant, anytime someone is looking to be spoiled. Be warned, if you dine here, you will be ruined from other restaurants! My water glass was never empty. My server was genuine and knowledgeable of the menu. She was extremely capable of handling my gluten and dairy allergy. Dining out has never been so fun.. I feel really insecure when I eat out. I'm always afraid that I might be served something that I can't eat. She showed me tons of options on the menu and even offered suggestions on how to make dishes gf. She even notified the chef. The food was to die for. Every single bite was pure heaven. Everything from our appetizers to salads to entrees to dessert. I can't wait to go back. Its such a delight to be able to dine like this in Phoenix. So rare to find a place like this in the valley. Go. Trust me.
Tarbells is the best place for dinner in the entire valley.
Poor quality food. Terrible old salads and the prices are way too high. The portions are not even enough for a 5 year old child.
