One of the special places in the Biltmore area. Staff is really friendly and attentive and the food is incredible. Had the halibut last time in and it was like I was eating in a restaurant in the Pacific Northwest. Desserts are all incredible. Everyone should visit at least once if you live in the valley.

Ask for lemon wedges for the shishito peppers. They need just a touch of acid. Everything else on the menu is spot on! Seriously, if you like lots of courses like I do, get half portions of most things...dessert excluded, obviously.. Very friendly, super clean, definitely surprised to find such a nice place in the area. My wife thought her fish plate was a bit on the small side. The restaurant can get busy and noisy on a Saturday night. Parking can get tight since the parking lot is small and there are maybe 4 restaurants in the shopping center.

Thank you to Kelly and the Tarbell's team. My partner brought me here for my birthday. Without even knowing that it was my birthday, Kelly, our server, treated us like royalty. When we were trying to decide on appetizers, she brought us a sample of one of them. I was on the fence about my main course and she asked if I trusted her, to which I said "of course." She then had the kitchen prepare me a plate of 50% of the two fish dishes I was contemplating. She even comped a dessert for us. It was the best dining service experience I have had in a long time.

Came here for my girlfriends birthday. Thankfully made a reservation well in advance as people were being quoted a 2 hour wait! Hands down the best steak I have ever had in my life. Not only that the mussels were exquisite and the drinks were delicious. Everything from the staff to the last bite of food I had satisfied everything that I would want or expect from a fine dining restaurant such as this.

My family had a first rate birthday dinner for my husband at Tarbell s. We were shown to our table which had a birthday card from the staff.
We started with 3 appetizers, tuna avocado tartar, calamari and burrata. We had the scallop special pizza, a seafood pot au feu, Tars cheeseburger. All were delicious with generous portions. The desserts were rich, decadent. Tarbell s wait staff are attentive without being overbearing. The restaurants atmosphere is warm, sophisticated with a neighborhood feel. I must also mention the bartender who pours a great drink!
Book it you ll love it.

This place isn't cheap and isn't meant for kids. It's a great adult friendly dining atmosphere with excellent staff. The servers are all very attentive and willing to accommodate any concerns you might have. My husband and I celebrated our 1st year anniversary here and were more than delighted not only by the special treatment we received but also the absolute delcious food that was served. We certainly will be coming back sometime in the future! This is a must go to place at least one time while you live or visit Phoenix - you will not be disappointed as their menu has such a huge variety for all tastes!

Hubs took me here to celebrate Mother's Day and it did not disappoint. I've wanted to dine here since I moved to Arizona three years ago and saw Tarbell's on Check Please! Arizona. It was relaxing, not at all rushed, I felt like a queen and the food was just top notch. Lobster Gnocchi y'all. Lobster Gnocchi. Worth every penny. Treat yourself here!

The cocktails were very good. The food was substandard, mac and cheese appetizer was very bland. The fish dish was one dimensional and very bland. A bit over priced for the quality of food and service.

It may be that I did not expect so much, but I personally like the grilling of the scallop that I ordered here (I do not see it in the United States) It has advanced unexpectedly. All waiters enjoyed a nice meal with a careful response.

We visited the Tavern next door to the original Tarbell's restaurant. They share the same kitchen and the same ownership, but the Tavern is more funky and it generally features live entertainment. We went with friends and looked up Alice Tatum who was the singer for the night. She was great (as always) and the Tavern was great, too. Somewhat of an upscale bar with the Tarbell's homey feel. We grazed on appetizers and from the deviled eggs to the bruschetta to the chef's board it was all shared and all wonderful.

I have literally gone to this place from the day they opened. Their food is uniformly excellent, the service is magnificent, the bar serves the perfect drink, and their wine list is unique and interesting. The only downside is that we have now moved to California and I will miss going there on a weekly basis. This was my go-to restaurant in Phoenix for 25 years - make it yours.

Mark Tarbell has a consistently good restaurant with excellent food and wines. He is usually there and attentive to his guests. Be sure and ask for bread as it is freshly baked and served with olive oil. To our way of thinking Keith is the best server in the Valley

It doesnt look like much from the outside but dont let that fool you, this place is awesome. It has a casual feel but they have awesome service, and food. We got the calamari, carpaccio, shared the filet and crab, man n cheese, and some dessert I cant remeber the name but it was so good I was not expecting that. The crab meat was very fresh you could taste it right away and the filet was cooked perfectly. The dessert was like a lemon meringue cookie or something but with fruit and a strawberry sorbet. It was nothing like I have had before but it was refreshing, and light. Go check this place out and go sit and the bar because Talia took care of us and she was amazing. We will be back.

Beautiful restaurant, good location, great cocktails. Unfortunately our waiter was extremely forceful and we felt rushed, a group of four, from the second we sat down until our last bite of dessert. They have a vegetarian entree for those who don't eat meat but we felt that the pricing was exorbitant for a carrot wrapped in phyllo dough and a bowl of angel hair with tomato sauce. The other two in the group were satisfied with their entrees as well but this restaurant did not warrant the $$$$ price tag.

There are two major components of a great restaurant- food and service. First, the food was excellent! We had the green chili stew and the scallop ceviche. Both were delicious and unique. We also shared the bruschetta which had 4 toppings which you could choose from - great idea. The second was service. Our bartender was Victoria. She made great recommendations, gave us plenty of time to make decisions, and took great care of us. Kiddos to her attitude and attention. This is a great location to enjoy a casual meal and catch some fun music.

Our first visit to Tarbell's Mothers Day 2015. My first impression was outstanding. The largest napkin I have ever seen. They also seated us 10 min. early which was nice. Both soup and salad were very good. Wife had the peppered N.Y. a little too much pepper for her taste. I had the Salmon and was very pleased. No bread with dinner was setback. The desert Chocolate Mousse was nice but it was the bottom of all 5 items. Yes I would come back not sure how soon. It's very good not so great that you want to return next week.

If you pay that price you expect pretty great service but the most attentive person was the water guy. Our waitress left a lot to be desired and didn't exactly pay much attention other than very judgemental glares because we chose to play a game at our table. I'd say over all it was a waste of money on food that could've been a lot better

My bill came to $142, the credit card charge was $200 (almost $60 over charge). When I called to sort it out the supervisor did refund my credit card, however, there was no apology and it seems like the restaurant does not see it as an issue. CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD BILL.

Contemporary American with a friendly twist. On Sundays they feature one dish from a different country's cuisine every week. We just had a gourmet shepherd's pie. Yes, gourmet Irish food! But the dessert was the bomb. Irish apple cake, not too sweet ... and with nice apple slices inside. But wait... there's more! A white sauce made with Jameson's Irish whisky... It was to die, no, live for! Again, not too sweet, but made the experience a bit of heaven, as they might say on the old sod.

A definitely remarkable experience. The food was extremely scrumptious. Each dish was prepared well and also well plated. One of the most charming locations I have actually been to. It's an excellent area to unwind as well as loosen up while you wait for even more scrumptious food ahead out of the kitchen area. This is among my new preferred place to enjoy food. Thanks for having a remarkable staff and ambiance. Extremely suggested if you are a foodie.

What a fantastic evening. Wine was fabulous. Calamari appetizer.... Fabulous. The halibut was tops... Beautiful... Delicious. We had to swap dinners halfway through because we both thought our food must be the best. It was so good we couldn't leave without trying three creme brulee and apple cobbler. I'm still starry eyed over it. My wine was always filled whenever anybody walked by and saw it nearly emptied. Seriously great experience.

The cheesecake with rosemary caramel was to die for, though it's so rich that I recommend sharing it. Our waiter was very helpful with the options, and offered to split our entrees in the kitchen (we refused, because it's great to eat family style). The chowda was tasty, though the rice was unnecessary filler. The fish of the day was slightly dry and salty, but still surprisingly tasty. Portion size was good for one person (I usually find the portions in the south too large for me).

A fixture in the valley, everything is good here every time - and as the years go by, I only appreciate more and more just what a gem this place is. The meatballs are as big as they are good. Something special: the desserts are creative and SATISFYING, as what is described on the menu is exactly what you taste. Don't miss the tavern next door by the same owner. Try the coconut pie.
note: bad grammar updated to smaller paragraph of bad grammar. Big ol' meatball buzz when I wrote that original entry. Cheers.

Arrived here for Valentines Day, unfortunately a costly mistake. My girl and I were excited to try the Kale chips, as she makes her own and loves to try new flavors. Unfortunately our 8 dollar bowl contained wilted kale with a burnt sour taste, nowhere near edible. My main course was 30 dollar Honey Glazed Salmon on top of a potato cake, better known as Salmon on top of a thin layer of hash brown. She ordered the Vegan Earth Plate listed as having spinach and wheat berries, all the great stuff. Unfortunately, her plate was mainly mushrooms with only 3 small leaves of spinach and 2 sweet potato chips on top. The servers did their job, but prepare to be interrupted, they fill your glass each time you take a drink and interrupted our conversation only to rearrange silverware. The seating is really cramped and you can't have a conversation without hearing everyone else s while having to talk above the television at the bar. All in all we paid 70$, I say this as a cautionary tale to couples who like to try new restaurants. With that said, we are unique, if you like contemporary food and enjoy being pampered this is probably a good match.

Amazing wine pairings and selections of bourbon....
A fun and casual bar if your seeking cocktails and a drink for Happy Hour.
Their small private room in the back is very intimate and highly desirable if you can get it....

An illusion that somehow falls under the radar pos...

An illusion that somehow falls under the radar posing as quality but in reality falling short of even mediocrity.

I was looking for the perfect spot for us to check out while we were in Phoenix and figured yelp can t be wrong! Almost 5 stars - I was sure this would not disappoint! After all how can 300 reviews be off.

--The AMBIENCE
Really nice and appreciated the lighting. Unfortunately there was a table of 4 men near us who were so loud that I could barely hear the person across from my very own table! The crowd skews a lot older - 60+

The FOOD

Hamachi crudo
I saw beautiful pictures of this and instead got mediocrity at best - soggy and sad looking. I would never ever order this again. Least the presentation was semi pleasant to look at.

I m not really sure why you need to sous vide an egg... the dish didn t make much sense to me because you have a lot of salad and just one eggs... it should have been a smaller portion salad, the bacon should have been chopped up and mixed with the salad. Instead you get one bite of egg, spending 5 minutes trying to grapple with cutting the bacon. The flavors make sense just not the final dish! Least there was an attempt here sort of...

Housemade Burrata with McClendon's Farm Tomatoes
This is the saddest excuse for a buratta I have ever tried anywhere!! The inside of a buratta is supposed to be creamy and open to up as you cut it! This... was cold and as you open it you get farmers cheese! What the heck is this... we didn t send this back but I stopped eating after one bite - this was a sad excuse for trying to cook!

Octopus ravioli
So this came out cold. The dough of the ravioli was disgusting - too thick and cold! I have never sent a dish back in all my years of dining but I was not going to pay almost $40 for cold ravioli!! What a disgrace! It s almost as if someone left them out sitting and the waiter was too busy to get them and like 10 min went by before they were served. They gave us 2 apps to apologize but even the apps were terrible.

ChaChing
I cannot believe how pricy this place is and that people actually pay this!! Like why? Is it location? This place is a complete rip off!!

The LETdown
I wouldn t send my worst enemy here! The food was pitiful, the price a joke and it just made no sense. I will never go here again and hope the food gets better. I should have known it was a red flag when they have so many types of cuisine on the menu! Why the heck do you have hummus as a starter? What does that have to do with anything? Get your stuff together!

The SERVICE
Our waiter was pretty attentive even though it seemed like he had a lot of people to cover tonight. He was considerate when we had to send a dish back and very flexible. I was a little annoyed that the waiter kept pushing the most expensive dishes repeatedly - don t appreciate that!

Woke up pinching myself making sure last night was not just a dream.
Nope. It wasn't. Just a magical dinner at Tarbell's with unparalleled service from Eric and Modesto.
We had dinner reservations at Tarbell's and decided to just eat small and save room for some downtown Phoenix bar hopping.
However, Tarbell's made that difficult because everything on the menu looked completely jaw dropping incredible.
We ordered the 'Mr.Fish of the moment'
*drool* we were also able to try the calamari which was fresh and not overly seasoned so the flavor bursted with the salsa verde.
For dessert I HAD to try the cheesecake with rosemary caramel. The hint of rosemary balanced out the sweet caramel and the delicious heaviness of the BEST cheesecake my tastebuds have ever been gifted of trying. I will dream of that cheesecake for years.
Thank you so kindly to Eric for making my birthday dinner special and overall, memorable!

Our previous visit to Tarbell s about a year and a half ago was good. But our visit on 3/24/19 was not. The service was very slow. The food was too salty and the noise was extremely loud. As much as I like Jimmy Hendrix and other intense rockers, it doesn t make for the best dinner music. The potato that came with the salmon was tasteless and wringing in grease. We couldn t wait to finish our meal and leave. A big disappointment for expensive food.
