Happy hour only applies if you eat at the bar! When I asked for the discount after spending $250 plus on drinks and dinner in the dining room, I was told it only applies if I purchase drinks in the bar. Are you kidding? That is poor business sense. I spent more than someone just there for drinks. The food was great, but the service was standard, and this just left a sour taste in my mouth. Won't be eating there again.

Enjoyed dinner and drinks in the evening. Loved the Blue cheese mushroom burger. Enjoyed the home baked bread and butter ie all different types of drinks available. Service gave us time to enjoy drinks, talk and watch the traffic of foothill. Lots of history in Bear Gulch and even so old ghost stories at the Sycamore Inn. Was a great evening on the outside patio. I will be back.
Okay a month later an I went back. Apparently Sheila stops in here often and after pickin me up at the airport she asked me to come have a drink with her. There are always great drinks here to try and appetizers to enjoy. It was very busy and everyone was enjoying the evening. Well almost everyone.... I was getting the axe tonight. She doesn't want to get too deep into a relationship... well like the story goes, "That's all she wrote"! The Sycamore Inn is a fine place to visit.

We had my Dad's 95th birthday party in the banquet room tonight. The service was terrible! (Our server did her best but apparently there was a problem in the kitchen). The food was just ok tonight. I had to complain to the manager when all but 5 out of 15 people got their salads 1/2 hour after the first 10 did including my Dad who we were celebrating. My grandson ordered a orange juice and he got it 45mins after he ordered it. My daughter in law ordered a drink and it took 1 hour before it came.
I had my Dad's 90th birthday party there and it was great so I decided to have his 95th there. I will never go back!

This place has been great for all the years we have been going there, for birthdays and anniversaries and just for a great meal. They have always treated us great. Food is always fantastic , service is great, that is why they have been so successful for so long.

3 hours and we left hungry. Our Christmas party was here on Friday and I will never be back to this place. I am the salesperson responsible for our entire companies sales. I was served cold $50 fish after waiting hours and my fiance was served an extremely over cooked $50 steak. I also got the au gratin potatoes which were partially raw. I was never asked if I wanted salad or soup so when my coworkers ate, I just sat there and watched. At about 3 hours into our meal no one even asked us about dessert which is really what I had wanted and the two of us just left. I am shocked such a terrible meal was so expensive. I had my cutlery on an appetizer plate and a waiter aggressively moved them out of my hands as I was trying to move them. I am so upset at even that much of my time being wasted much less the huge expense of our party for such mediocre food. I left completely hungry after having just a few bites of appetizers as I don't like COLD FISH!!! There was a large party going so I think they forgot about ours, unacceptable 1 star service. I will never forget the day I left this renowned steak house to make myself a quesadilla. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!!!!

This is mine and my husband's traditional anniversary dinner place. A bit pricey but the food is spectacular. Feel like I'm going back to the 1940s. We always get a table by the fireplace.

History serves dinner at this steakhouse. Even with a limited menu on Valentine's Day, we enjoyed our choices. Large portions. Beautiful filet mignon cooked perfectly to order. Stuffed mushrooms had a little too much cheese to mushroom ratio. Bartender Janet is friendly and quick with the drinks, even on a busy night.

Old fashioned steak house. Impeccable service amazing steak (dry aged), full bar, and porch dinner specials too. I got engaged there, by the fire place. We go at least one a year and have never been disappointed.

Today's Christmas party: The party room was beautiful and freezing cold at same time. The AC was set to probably 60's. It was last year as well. The bread served to start was hard and bland. The salad was wilted and small- super dissapointing. I was only one with minestrone soup which was delicious. The other 10 people suffered through the salad. The main meal for me was petite filet mignon with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. It was delicious but temperature was lacking. The others with salmon was under cooked. The cooked portion was perfect. We are repeat customers and had reservations way in advance. I had to ask for coffee refill which was one time only. The servers didn't know where the food was to go to which person.

A very historic place with good food. They advertise an early bird dinner on the marquee at the entrance that says the meal starts at $10. That is true...one dish is $10 and is, of course, chicken. The rest even a pasta is at least $5 more. Happy hours has appetizers at half price and drink specials.

Do you really want history and old school service...? Come here!!! The Syc is a significant part of the IE history ( unfortunately branded by non locals) . Truth be told... If you want the best experience of the Syc (of a staple of Southern California) just ask for a waiter that has been there 20+ years. If you get a young dip-ship.... sorry

When there for birthday happy hour. Ordered the herd chicken dish. The chicken was so dry I couldn't even cut it with a knife. The steamed vegetables were hard as if raw. The mushroom sauce pretty tasteless. Wouldn't waste my money going back. Others in my party said the food was just ok. Don't go for the food, drinks maybe?

This is the best place for authentic old school cocktails and the best appetizers around. Janet is behind the bar and always makes a great drink. You can t beat the ambiance and the Frank Sinatra music in the background.

OVER RATED!!! We visited this lovely restaurant for the first time on a late Monday afternoon. We were told it s only by reservation. We didn t have one. After the hostess talked to the manager, she came back saying we can be seated, but only for half hour because they were expecting a large party. We never saw that large party.
Our waiter came quite soon after we briefly looked at the menu. He walked away without a word when we said we were undecided. As I stared at him, I noticed him shaking his head as if disappointed. He never greeted, welcomed or bother to make meal suggestions, just walked away.
Towards the end of our meal, we asked a server for coffee, she responded by saying you ll need to ask your server and walked away. Typically, a polite server would get your server or just place the order.
The only silver lining was a busboy named Alfredo. He was so nice and helpful. The rest of the staff should watch and learn from him and this historical landmark would possibly return to its glory days and be worth the prices on the menu.
Needless to say, we will never return. We felt unwelcome and frankly, there are plenty of local overpriced steakhouses with equally delicious food but with much better service.

Excellent service. Phenomenal wine list. Better filet than my experience at Pinnacle Peak's. However the water damaged, buckling ceiling and the cardboard patchwork to band -aid the eyesore left me feeling uneasy about what may be happening behind closed doors. Yes, it's an historic landmark for the Upland area, but c'mon. We had 6 people in our party, we spent $1000 on our outing alone, that right there could fix the back-alley-Sally ceiling. The menu items aren't cheap is what I'm saying. Better upkeep of the interior in need of serious attention.

We love the Sycamore for their old time style. We generally eat in the bar our lounge area where that have a fantastic happy hour everyday between 5 and 8 for food and cocktails. They have both indoor and outdoor seating for the lounge so they can accommodate a lot of people. The staff has mostly been there for many years and they run like a well oiled machine. The bartenders know how to make anything and pay special attention to old fashioned type drinks you don't see often anymore. The restaurant is usually more than we want to eat, but they also run specials in there if you join their email list.

Lame old people come drink here to pretend they're back in a time when you could smoke in a restaurant, they don't cuz they're mostly dying, but the walls still have that glowing golden hue that only comes from cigs

We have been going to the Sycamore for many years and love this place. It is a little spendy if you are eating at the restaurant, but we always hit the small bites happy hour in the bar area. Appetizers are reasonably priced and you can't beat the 1/2 off drinks and wine. Don't forget to order a Souffle!

One of the best restaurants in the area featuring a premium bar program with a great happy hour. This review will cover the drinks a d I will update after I've had a chance to document the food. First off all of the bitters and shrubs are made in house which is very impressive. They have an excellent selection of high-end whiskeys. And the bartenders are very helpful and create some amazing cocktails. The bar area is very nice, dimly lit, with a very intimate setting. There's also a nice patio area and seating.
