1 Star is only because I had to use ar least one... After moving to Snellville further away from my dentist of 20 years, I tried this place and was pleased at first. Then there was a change in dentist, staff, and customer service went to Hell in a handbasket. I was no longer greeted upon arrival or told how long the wait might be or anything. After asking the very rude person at the Front Desk (Shana, Rashana??) and finishing my services I told them it would be my last visit and immediately contacted the BBB. A few weeks later, they sent a letter asking to seek dental services elsewhere and a bill for services that were already paid last year. The actual dentist or Office Manager NEVER contacted me and if it weren't for my husband running up there to pay the "Past Due bill" I'd still owe because I honestly believe it was fabricated. They were unprofessional, incompetent, and that "bill" was a way to cause more grief, but my smile will be sought elsewhere. I'd like a refund for the partial that was sent back 2-3 times and still of no use! I would NOT recommend them at all for ANYTHING unless the staff is replaced. Brittney was ALWAYS professional, Gabe tried his best, but I just dont have any confidence with this team.!

As a new patient, I can say that I received quality treatment and the services and options were thoroughly explained to me. I have had my fair share of medical horror experiences, but I m glad to say that this practice was not one of them!
Ashley certainly exceeded expectations while working on my teeth. She was very attentive and careful, and made sure i was okay throughout the process, and made certain adjustments when needed. She certainly deserves alot of Kudos and a great example to other dental assistants.
My previous visits with dr. Schafer was everything I could ask for. However after 08/2020 I had 2 root canal procedures to be done. My appointment was different and not professional at all. The office contacted me via text to confirm my intent to keep my scheduled appointment.my appointment was at 7am and by 6:30 which I was already on my way to the office. I received a call and was told dr. Schafer was feeling sick and had to be rescheduled. When the real truth was he already left and moved to other state which I will later find out the truth. So anyway I agree to set my schedule after 2 days. I arrived on time and was placed in one of the rooms waiting to meet my dr. And discuss how we were to proceed with my procedures. And every one seemed to be rushing and was behind trying to catch up with task. And an Assistant put a stick with numbing paste in to my mouth.Everything didn t feel right and should have been a hint for me to stand and leave. I regret every decision I did to stay that day. And the assistant saw the discomfort and suggested if I want to stop it and go home. But with the numbness and the overwhelming feeling I just didn t know what to do.so in the middle of this with no explanation or anything a different dentist dr.Debbie Dismuke comes in the room and explained that she had experience for 30 years. And later the office manager comes and apologized that I should have been informed that my dentist was no longer and blah blah bla. I should have been informed way ahead of time. I took their word which I should never done. Dr Debbie dismuke was banging the instrument against my gum-line. It was bleeding severely. which never happened before with 3 root canal procedures with dr. Schafer. I left the office a mouth full of blood with multiple wounds.and after the anesthesia wore off I had the most excruciating pain. I notified the office they told me to use salt and water. Even now my gum-line is never the same around the teeth that she bruised. And after few weeks probably at the begging of November I went to the office to put my permanent crown but the bite didn t feel right at that time. So my crown was going to be sent to get a reshape/adjustments basically. And ever since November nobody has contacted or followed up on it. It is a shame that there is no moment of care and total mess regarding what is being done since dr. Schafer left.
very poor service. Never felt welcomed. I asked for my records so I could look for a new dentist and when I arrived to pick up my file they handed me one print out of a front x-ray. we have a file of at least three visits with extensive dental work done. They have no bedside manner and are only out to take lots of money from you.
Experience wasn't bad but they are scammers and money hungry they will create charges to bill you. Please do not go here. I took my son there a year ago and was given an amount to pay before he can get his dental work done, I paid that amount and now a whole year later I am told that I have an outstanding bill. They are crooks and scammers. Dishonest and deceitful.
OMG! Where have you been all my life! The fear of pain has always caused me hesitation but there was no pain! And my second visit was even more incredible! All I can say is Thank You again!!!
My first time walking into this office I thought wow, this is a beautiful facility. It felt warm, bright, and inviting. The ladies at the front desk Barbara and Brandy were very friendly and professional. Casey was great with my kids and very patient. And Dr. Shafer was excellent. I m definitely moving to this office. If you re looking for a family oriented office this is it.
I took Me my daughter there yesterday for a emergency visit...Like the Previous Reviews said they will try and scam you out of your money. My daughter got upset because she said the billing coordinator was talking to me like I was Dumb, and she was trying to add more charges on without explaining why?!! We walked out and will never return . I have appt coming up next week that I am going to cancel.
Sugarloaf Family Dental is the best dentist in Gwinnett Co. The staff is amazing and the Dr is truly one of a kind. Once you go for your first visit you will never go anywhere else. Love them
I absolutely love this office. From the front to the back. Everyone is so nice and pleasant. Dr. Schafer is great. He fully explained my dental needs and made me feel very comfortable. I am very nervous about going to the dentist and Dr. Schafer put me at ease. Great office and great Doctor... I recommend Dr. Schafer to all my friends and family.
I was looking for a new dentist and remembered that I had a flyer in the mail from Sugarloaf Family Dental. I wanted to give them a try and was not sure if would work out for my 3 and 5 year old at the time. The staff made my children fee very comfortable and had no problems! They are extremely friendly and flexible. I was also treated and they did a fabulous job! I am very satisfied!
I absolutely LOVE Sugarloaf Family Dental!! They are friendly, knowledgeable and always take great care of me. They never make you feel like you re a burden for being there, and even though they may be busy at times they don t rush you if you have a million questions (like I do). I would recommend them to Anyone!!
Great dentistry! Everyone is pleasant. I have the best hygienist Latoya! She's thorough, takes her time, gives great feedback and advice..just awesome.
This was my first time here. They are very friendly here at sugarloaf family dental! They answered all questions I had about my dental hygiene! I will definitely recommend this place to everyone! Thank you for helping me keep a healthy smile!!!!
I had an emergency and even though they were swamped they told me to come in.. I waited for a few minutes then I was treated and left a happy camper !! The staff starting with the receptionist , hygienist were all very nice and professional. Brandy is a class act. Very professional and efficient. Very nice person!!
The office and their staff are awesome. The facility is always clean and everyone always has a smile. When they can t do something they make the appropriate referral. My whole family goes there and we will be part of their patients family for a long time.
I never had issues with this facility until today 2/6/19 to be exact and when I came for my appointment when the lady who was taking xrays of my teeth or scanning them she didn't clean the utensil that was used to do the scanning it wasn't cleaned cause I saw she just hung back up the device not only Was it not clean another lady who was next door came to grab the machine and proceed to use it on someone else whole time it still had my saliva all over it that's absolute disgusting i don't know if the lady cleaned it before she used it On her patient but from what I saw it wasn't wiped , covered in plastic none of that and it makes me scared to go to this office especially since it is known for dental utensils to cause diseases . Now after I noticed that I was waiting for the doctor , nurse or whomever it was suppose for a whole hour never came by as I notice everyone in the office getting worked on and I'm just waiting around while a open employee is just sitting with the receptionist chatting away I never complain I'm always late or rescheduling my appointment but when I came today it made me happy I am always rescheduling cause as much as y'all remind people or want them To spend $500 on a cap for a tooth the least someone can do is not have people waiting hours on end or putting them in harms way to catch something , I hope my next visit is better .
My original review refered to my August and September 2020 visits to Sugarloaf Family Dental with Dr Schafer. My October appointment was very different, not professional and NOT SAFE/SANITARY. First, the office staff need retraining in Covid precautions, specifically proper use of masks. Masks need to cover the mouth and nose to prevent the spreading of disease. This visit I could see that Covid-19 precautions were solely for protection of staff and practice liability and NOT the dental patients. They take your temperature and have you sign a form that protects THEM, in case YOU get Covid-19. The least they can do is follow simple procedures to protect you from getting sick. Nothing is 100% safe, but following the precautions makes it safER. Although the office contacted me multiple times, via email and text, to confirm my intent to keep my scheduled appointment, and a few hours before the appointment - to make sure I didn't have any symptoms of Covid-19, they never mentioned that Dr Schafer had left the practice and had been replaced with a new Dentist who knew nothing of the practice procedures or materials used by this practice in routine dental care. I was placed in one of several treatment rooms, where it became clear they were running behind schedule and were rushing through protocols to try to catch up. Multiple assistants and the Dentist were moving quickly in and out of several treatment rooms addressing patients in various stages of treatments. Did they wash their hands or change gloves between each patient every time? I honestly don't know, but wonder if that very basic infection control measure was maintained. An assistant rushed into my room and hurriedly shoved a stick with topical numbing paste into my mouth. When I pulled it out and said "what's this for, I'm just having an old filling replaced because it is discolored. I don't want Novocaine, I always feel worse for days afterwards". Well, the assistant encouraged me to use the anesthetic because, if the process of removing the old filling suddenly became painful, I might move and be accidentally injured by the instruments. In hindsight, this should have been my clue to stand up and walk out. Instead, I decided to wait until Dr Schafer came in and discuss with him. But, instead, a different Dentist came and when I asked for Dr Schafer I was told he had left the practice and moved to another state. 2nd opportunity to leave missed. As I layed back in the Dental chair waiting for the Novocaine to take effect, I noticed that the large overhead light was coated in debris from previous patients. I could see an attempt had been made to clean the light because it was smeared and streaked and the debris specks were prominent. 3rd opportunity to stand up and walk out missed. When the Dentist got to work on my front tooth I kept raising my hand to indicate I was in pain. They were forcing and holding my mouth too far open, banging the instruments against my teeth on the opposite side of my mouth. When I was finally allowed to tell them where they were hurting me, the Dentist told me that was because she could see a cavity in another tooth and she could just pop that tooth right out of there. No thank you. Dr Schafer did EXTENSIVE, COMPREHENSIVE x-rays of every tooth in my mouth, less than a month earlier. He explained everything to me and gave me a very simple treatment plan that only included replacing the old filling and regular cleaning. Nothing about a cavity, let alone one so bad the tooth would have to be pulled. I left the appointment uncomfortable and when I arrived home I had a mouth full of blood - with open wounds where the dental instruments hand torn into gums, inside lips and cheeks. I was in pain also from the Novocaine wearing off. 2 days later and the only thing I can stand in my mouth is cold water. Save yourself the pain, worry of infection and stay away from this place!
Very nice staff. Very knowledgeable and patient. Helpful in answers any questions or concerns. They take the time to explain the how and why. They make you look forward to coming back...how crazy is that!
Overall experience is good, I did teeth cleaning and the doctor and hygienist are very responsible. The only thing I will concern is the billing part; looks like it always has problems and mistakes, which is very frustrating! Thanks
FALSE ADVERTISING!! I arrived for the deal on some un-requested flyer that came to my home. I typically despise junk mail and should have treated it as such. My assistant made the cleaning appointment for me and confirmed the total price for the specific services I was to receive. I was there for well over two hours. I DID NOT receive a cleaning. They tried to sell me a more invasive cleaning procedure for several thousands of dollars. I said, "I'll just take the regular cleaning advertised for now and make an appointment to come back later for the extra stuff I need." At first they out right told me, "no!" Then they said, "what's the point of giving you the basic cleaning if you'll still need to come back for a Deep Cleaning?" They still wanted to charge me full price for my first visit (which was NOT the price quoted to my assistant, nor what I was told upon arrival) even though they had NOT cleaned my teeth at all as advertised. Then finally the said, "okay, we can do the basic," after I paid upfront for my next visit and that I would still have to come back a second time for them to complete it. It was a total mess. The sweet lady at the reception desk appeared to be ashamed of the way her employer was treating me AND even the nice Dental Hygienist who took my initial photos commented that they do things differently at her location. I am utterly disgusted by that Lori woman who is the Administrator. She poorly handled my case and I even witnessed her yell at another client. She should be fired because that type of attitude comes from deep within and cannot be re-trained!
This team is extremely helpful and go above and beyond! Trust was developed upon my first visit. They are clean and professional. I will always return to this location.
Excellent experience. The entire Staff was very nice and professional. State of the art equipment. The dentist was very warm welcoming and to the point. I m happy I chose this dentist.
Amazing experience! I'm usually afraid of going to the dentist but DR. Ann was extremely gentle and made me feel right at home. She's super informative and got my smile looking it's best.
I really hate to complain or put anyone down which is why I will not use any names. However, I feel that I am doing a service by warning others of SFD's practices. I went to Sugarloaf Family Dental after receiving a coupon for a cleaning, xrays, and an exam. I knew that I had at least one semi serious cavity so I was prepared to have it fixed. After my cleaning, I scheduled my first appointment to have not one but 2 crowns. I also needed a root canal and was sent to a better and less expensive doctor. Instead of charging me a portion at a time on my credit card (like they had stated), Sugarloaf Family Dental charged me the entire $3000+ before taking or sending off any impressions or attaching the new crowns. At that point I only had a temporary. About a week after my root canal, I came back in to SFD have my impressions taken so they could be sent to the lab for the crowns. Once the crowns arrived I went in to have them put on. Immediately I felt pain. I was told to wait it out. Weeks passed and there was still pain. They retook xrays, scraped off some cement and sent me on my way, still in pain. They instructed me to contact the endodontist to have a re-treatment on the root canal. Once there, he removed my crown and realized the problem was a crack in the tooth. This was where the pain was coming from. I had to have the tooth pulled and have an implant put in its place. Luckily, this doctor is willing to do the work FREE OF CHARGE. While, I am still paying for SFDs mistake. This has brought me many sleepless nights. $3000 is not pocket change for a student and mother of two. Each month I receive the bill and have to pay for something that I am not satisfied with and pay for a tooth that I no longer have. Please, take my advice, run far away. Get your cheap cleaning and have your xrays sent elsewhere.
Amazing Office! Dr. Dang is truly a caring person who does not recommend treatment that is not needed. The whole staff is super helpful and friendly. I will recommend this office to all of my family and friends!
Dr.Newborn and her staff is exceptional! The office is gorgeous as well. I received a very thorough examination and treatment plan. All of my work was done by the doctor - including x-rays. That s top notch customer service. Everything was explained in detail and the treatment rendered was conservative. They serve the best interest of the patient at this clinic. My insurance covered over 90% of the treatment I received so I am pleased about that as well. My family and I definitely have found a dentist that we love.
Had an appointment this morning and showed up on time with my paperwork already filled out. The receptionist is very nice and welcoming- she really did her best to take care of me but unfortunately she doesn't run the place. I waited in the lobby for 40 min before another patient who came 20 min after me was taken back before me.
They want you to respect your appointment or pay a fee, but had no respect for my time. Needless to say I left and probably won't be going back. After reading some other reviews it looks like I may have dodged a bullet.
Got an extraction and a bridge done here a while back because they do walk-ins and I was in extreme pain. Opted to do a bridge instead of an implant because I don't like the thought of having stuff drilled into my head, but they never warned me about bone atrophy after an extraction. 0/10 would not recommend.
Sugarloaf Family Dental gives you the best experience you could ever have from a dentist office. The warm and friendly staff and gentle work that you receive make you feel at ease.
I started recently visiting this facility since I am new to Lawrenceville and was looking for a good dentist with good reviews. The only thing I didn't liked was that even though I asked for allowing my husband to be with me since I am an anxiety patient, they didn't allowed him to b in the procedure room. But they were very professional and explained to me everything and worked on my nerves for calming me down. I believe it was because of the kind of procedure being performed (on top of my anxiety problems) but I felt it was taking forever. Nevertheless I cannot complain about the work that has been performed in my mouth because it has been an excellent work so far . I really recommend this place. They are very professional and before taking any decision they explain to you everything, the process, the costs and the payment methods they can offer you. This will be my place from now on. Hopefully forever!
I could not be happier with my experience at this office. I have really bad anxiety and the staff came together to calm my fears. I'm so happy to refer them and I will definitely come back now that I know there are such GREAT PEOPLE that work here. Thanks guys!
I am satisfied with the service I received. The staff is courteous and pleasant to work with. COVID 19 protocols are adhered to and there are never many patients waiting. My Hygienist Reshma is absolutely the best and makes me feel totally relaxed throughout my procedures. I give her 5 STARS
This is my first time visiting this office and I am beyond satisfied with not just the professional side of the business but also how the entire staff goes a step further to make you feel at home. It felt like I had been a patient for years. I felt comfortable and was very satisfied with how I was treated and with the quality of work performed. They have earned my business and will continue to visit this location for all my Dental needs. Thank you.
Please get a 2nd opinion if you visit this office. I went to a few offices, and this one recommended multiple painful, expensive, and unnecessary procedures. I could go on, but I'd rather keep it simple. They pressure you to do work the same visit, and will stay open late if it means making a dollar by tricking you into additional services. It isn't just unnecessary and expensive, it is immoral. They will have a hygienist, then "doc", then basically a salesperson, try to pressure you into agreeing to their treatment plan. It's really sad that they're getting away with these tactics. The other office I visited recommended NOTHING. My teeth and gums were fine. They trumped up problems that I didn't have.
I've read some of the reviews on this place but I have to say. I don't understand why it is rated so low. I give them a 4 star. If the price was a little better it would be 5. However, the place is clean and beautiful. The staff was very understanding and helpful. The dentist was polite and courteous to my feelings and worries. They all made me feel comfortable and relaxed, and that's not just the nitrous talking! I would highly recommend them.
The staff was nice from the front desk workers to the dental staff in the back. The dental exam was the most thorough exam I have ever gotten at a dentist office. My cleaning was done perfectly, it didnt hurt! Thank you SFD!
I have no idea why the rating is so low, I love this dentistry. They are gentle, even when they had the opportunity to up-sell, they chose not to. I never want to feel like JUST a sale, they definitely make you feel comfortable. I recommend them wholeheartedly. The other people who are saying they're scammers, probably just had a bad experience with a coupon and took it too far. I love them, I'm sure you will too.
The office is very clean and the staff is wonderful, everything getting done is being explained as we going. The doctor was nothing but smiles and was happy to answer any question I had. LOVE IT
I STRONGLY DISCOURAGE ANYONE FROM USING THIS PRACTICE. They recommended Invisalign treatment, which I started in February. When I went back a few months later, they said what they did the first time wasn't right and I'd have to start again. That meant new impressions and 6 additional weeks of wearing the trays. I did that. When I went back today, another dentist there said everything was done wrong and that I'd have to start over yet again. They were unsympathetic to all of the time and discomfort I've invested in the process over the last 5 MONTHS and acted as if it was okay to tell me I'd have to go back to square one. The trays are uncomfortable but would be worth it if they did what they are supposed to. It is ridiculous that they made me wear them for months for nothing. DO NOT USE THIS GROUP!!!!!
This is my Regular Office for Dental Cleaning. They are ALWAYS PROFESSIONAL and do an Amazing Job with my Teeth Cleaning !!!! Anyone looking for a GOOD DENTAL Office Should try Sugarloaf Dental. I've been going there for the past 4+ Years.
This dentist does not want to finish up any previous work that you have had done by a previous dentist especially if there are issues. This dentist will not go the extra mile that is sometimes needed with dental work. If you go to him from the beginning you may be okay otherwise use caution
From the first phone call with Christina, to the front desk with Barbara, the technician Ivan and Dr Noelan Schafer, and at checkout with Brandy, you'll always experience a kind, caring, professional and knowledgeable medical staff that knows how to connect with people. Trustworthy, friendly, compassionate and understanding - they get it!
Great service. This is my regular dentist. Latoya and Doc Schafer have both taken care of me over the past year and they have been quite diligent and professional. I am happy with the service and will keep coming back.
Hands down the best! Had an emergency as a new patient and my needs were met. They actually listen and have me on the right path to relief. I ve been going through pain for months and could not get anyone to listen. Definitely recommend this office.
Like the routine no-annual cleaning service offered in this dental clinic. Casey is a great dental hygienist who is receptive to the patient s needs. Good dentists!
I love my dentist and recommended Sugarloaf Family Dental to all my friends and family. They always do great work and don t settle for anything less than perfect.
Absolutely a wonderful experience!! Even when in pain Perfect customer service, wonderful nurses, & a caring doctor who sure knows what he s doing Thanks so much for taking good care of me! I was in a bad way Will recommend highly
