Wonderful tour of the Lee family home. Staff was helpful, technology was efficient and thorough, gave many details of life at Stratford Hall. Three different types of tours were available, excited to return for another, or possibly one of their special events.

I was so excited to finally visit Stratford Hall, and I have to say I was very pleased with the preservation of the home and grounds, and I had a decently knowledgeable tour guide. My only issue, however, was with the bookstore. Rather than focusing on the Lee family or the rich 18th century history there, they have hyper-focused on the fact that Robert E Lee was born there, and consequently EVERYTHING in the gift shop is pretty much all Civil War, and most of it ENTIRELY unrelated to the site itself. I mean books, everything. (Save, I think, one copy of, "Light Horse Harry Lee in the War of Independence. I mean, at the very least his memoirs about the war are highly important and should be carried here.) There is rich 18th century history here, why not celebrate that as well?

Happy birthday Robert Edward Lee!

Happy birthday Robert Edward Lee!
Stratford Hall was the place to be today.
There were costumed interpreters, guides, and a variety of informed docents who helped make the great house come alive.
We enjoyed talking with Martha , who is a cornerstone of the program. Thank you all for a memorable day.

The walking audio tour of the Great House was phenomenal! Well thought out, informative, very enjoyable. The surrounding sites were enjoyable as well.

We did have a hard time with the trails. The one trail, leading from the parking lot to the grist mill, paralleling the water.. was terrible! It was VERY overgrown.l and hard to navigate

However, we just walked down the road and the walk was enjoyable. I highly recommend the road, not the path!

Went for a group function at the Inn dining hall. It was well catered. The hall where the buffet was served was notable for the beautiful curtains on opposing walls with an antique oak leaf/floral pattern in what appeared to be burnt sienna and eggshell. Also, visited the Dupont library on the grounds where we were helped by the very accommodating librarian. Good visit.

I had previously went here with my kids about 15 years ago and since Tony and I were in the area I decided to stop again.
It was very easy to find close to Colonial Beach VA in the same area where other famous people were born and lived

Stratford Hall is the birthplace and Childhood home of Robert E Lee in 1807 and his siblings. I am a history major and my dream job was to be a history teacher but I never made it. So, when my kids and nieces & nephew was growing up I dragged them on field trips back in time and they actually LOVED it!!!! As adults now, they tell me it's some of their favorite childhood memories.

Stratford Hall is a gorgeous working (still today) Plantation. There is a gorgeous Great House, tons of out buildings and barns.
Built in 1730 by Thomas Lee, its still one of the greatest homes ever built in American History.
Over 2000 acres spread out along the banks of the Potomac River. Lee Family had various notable descendants born and raised here.
Including 2 Signers of the Declaration of Independence : Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee. Also American Revolution War Hero "Light Horse Harry" Lee father of Robert E Lee.

The Grounds Pass for $8 per adult and $5 per child gives you access to the property for the hiking trails, public grounds, beach area access and gardens BUT not to the Great House or other buildings.

General adult admission tickets for the Driving Tour that is audio to 28 stops is $12 each and $5 per child. This is the one we chose to do today.
Currently due to Covid-19 the Great Hall and Buildings are closed.
If in the area, I highly recommend you to check it out. Amazing how in 9 years, it will be 300 yrs old!!

The birthplace of Robert E. Lee, it is a well maintained and restored historic home. The self guided audio tour was engaging for myself and kids of multiple ages. The volunteers are very friendly and the grounds are beautiful.

Only here for a short but historical visit during the Fairfax H.O.G. Hosted 'Lord Fairfax Ride.' the team here were so much fun during our short stop; with a boundless energy and wealth of knowledge, if you are a history buff, a bucket list location, if you are not a history buff, this team will inspire you to be one!

I visited this historical location during the winter, so as a disclaimer, it may be much better during the warmer months. They offer tours of the main house with a helpful guide that last about 50 minutes, as well as grounds that house exhibits of what the various buildings would have looked like and operated as during the time period of the Lee family's ownership of the estate. Many of the buildings and several rooms in the house, however, were closed off to guests. A complete visit of the grounds should take about 2 hours, and they do offer numerous trails around the area as well as access to the beautiful cliffs overlooking the Potomac River.

An interesting facility rich in history. My husband and I chose the self-guided tour with the audio recording machines. The house was beautiful and the displays were intriguing. The gift shop has lots of interesting and unique gifts as well as corn meal that is made at the working Mill on site. The beach is a nice area and we managed to find a few sharks teeth.

Fascinating place. Home of the Lee's in the 1700s. The family had many members who were important in the American Revolution and early history of the country. Also Robert E. Lee was born and lived there till he was 4. Well preserved and beautiful grounds.

A architecturally significant plantation house with one of the most symmetrical floor plans I've seen with near perfect natural ventilation. The Great House circa 1736-1739 forms the letter 'H,' with a large central hallway with the other rooms adjoining this area with symmetrically placed doors at either side. Authentic 18th C furnishings. The house perched high on the site overlooking the Potomac was home to two signers of The Declaration of Independence and is well preserved including several outbuildings. Research and conservation programs available, dining, gift shop also on the plantation. Expansive grounds and gardens. Parking available. A short drive from Washington DC in the northern neck of Virginia.

Always a nice place to visit! Robert E. Lee's birthplace with a great mansion to view as well as outer buildings (kitchen, stables, slave quarters, spring house), however could be kept in better shape and admission and tour prices are rather high.

Historic house and extensive grounds of the Lee family. There were at least 4 generations who lived here and made a variety of contributions to the early history of the US. It was also the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. The tour of the house is fascinating and there are a lot of out buildings you can explore as well. Beautiful place.
