A architecturally significant plantation house with one of the most symmetrical floor plans I've seen with near perfect natural ventilation. The Great House circa 1736-1739 forms the letter 'H,' with a large central hallway with the other rooms adjoining this area with symmetrically placed doors at either side. Authentic 18th C furnishings. The house perched high on the site overlooking the Potomac was home to two signers of The Declaration of Independence and is well preserved including several outbuildings. Research and conservation programs available, dining, gift shop also on the plantation. Expansive grounds and gardens. Parking available. A short drive from Washington DC in the northern neck of Virginia.
