There is never a time that I come here where I feel they know what they are doing. The wait time is extremely long, most recently it was over 5 hours to see a doctor. On a previous visit, I had to tell the nurse not to give me a certain medication because it may kill me. After she conferred with a doctor, she told me that they weren t going to give it to me.
This place is a train wreck....find another hospital.

Absolutely horrendous! I was discharged from another hospital and told to go to Stony Brook for the surgery I needed.
Their triage is a joke. I was asked basic questions nothing about how I m feeling, current meds, medical history, etc..Then I was sent back to the waiting room. Then hrs later I was brought to another room where I was jabbed so hard to get blood, and put in an IV line, (I have great veins), I screamed in pain. (It was so bad that hrs later the nurse had trouble getting an IV bag to run correctly.) Back to waiting room.
I ended up there in pain, for 10 hrs., never seeing any Dr. from the dept I was supposed to see.
The entire time I was fed a line of BS.. the Dr. will be right here. First people from the Dept I needed, were in the ER , than, they are upstairs and would be down soon . Finally, an unrelated person came after 11pm to tell me the residents said, no one would be coming down to see me!
I was told I had 2 choices, go home and see them in the clinic during the week, or stay overnight and have them tell me then, they won t do the needed surgery.
I chose to go home.
Avoid this place at all costs.

Went there with trouble breathing and severe back pain at 8 pm at night, was not seen by a doctor till 4 am the next morning, they ran my blood and released me with a diagnosis of trouble swallowing , after I got home I went over the blood work and seen 4 issues that they did not address, went to city md and they found a severe infection and tested positive for corona within 30 minutes. This hospital use to be the best and they ran themselves into the ground. Avoid at all cost!

Terrible. They neglected me and nearly killed me out of negligence.

ER waiting room times are 3 hours after triage. I waited even longer for a bed in the effing halfway. I was ignored of my pain and concerns about my blood sugars as a diabetic. They kept me in ER overflow they call "observation"

Waited nearly 25 hours to see a GI doctor. I wasn't given my insulin or any dinner to keep my blood sugar up. I have a complex disorder than requires readings every 2 hours. I was stuck in this obs room with a severely demented lady and the babysitter. The babysitter was falling asleep and this lady would not stop talking. The babysitter wouldn't talk to her to calm her down.

Outpatient appointments take a 6 month to 9 month wait. Even if they do see you they don't care about your pain and prescribe Motrin for Crohn's belly pin.

Still no visiting hours? The only hospital in NY with no visiting hours. This is wrong at this point. I am fully vaccinated and still no visiting. I spent a week in LIJ months ago after surgery and they allowed visiting. Poor choice of a hospital.

My mom had an allergic reaction to the Pfizer vaccine within 10min of getting it . She was brought to the ER right away. She was there for 4 days straight , spent most of the time in IC and ALMOST everyone was very nice and sympathetic of the situation . The no visitation was very frustrating but I did speak to several nurses and doctors during her stay that were very informative and put me at ease that she was being well taken care of .There was one nurse practitioner Vesta that was rushing through the conversations every time that Would make it seem like what was going on was not a big deal and she s fine another doctor that I didn t catch his name that told me he didn t think it was the vaccine that caused this reaction it could have been anything . Mind you within 10min after the vaccine my mom began to cough turn red and her throat swelled up . The paramedic had to give her Benadryl and epinephrine with some other shot because nothing was working. I would have given it 5 stars if they had visitations allowed and those two would have been more sympathetic and open minded of the rare case of someone could actually be very ill because from the vaccine . Everyone else was great and kept my mom alive during this traumatic experience that she went through . The rest of the doctors that saw her did agree that it was a reaction to the vaccine. It took her 3 days of on and off allergy attacks with all these medications to recover and I m grateful for their care and attentiveness for getting her through this .

On Tuesday I woke up with severe abdomen pain I went to the closest hospital near me which was good Samaritan. They did not treat me very well they ignored my requests they actually let me sit in my own feces which was absolutely humiliating they gave me basically no answers and they sent me home with just antibiotics and no pain medicine. My boss had told me I should try to go to Stony Brook Hospital because it is the best and that is what I did on Saturday. I needed to write this review because I feel that everybody needs to know how absolutely amazing this place is. I had a PA whose name was Michael Bulzomi and he was absolutely angelic towards me as was the other doctors and nurses. They listened to my requests they heard everything I had to say they were super accommodating and I left with a prescription for not just antibiotics but also pain medicine. They also were able to give me an actual diagnosis which was amazing and actually helped me put my mind at ease a little bit even though it wasn t a good diagnosis. I just hope that everyone in the future considers coming to this hospital over any other one because it is just absolutely incredible there. I just want to thank all of the staff and all of the doctors and nurses that helped me while I was there you are all absolute angels thank you so much for everything you ve done for me.

Let's just say the nursing staff is clicky. I put my TV volume on 40 not to hear the nurses complaining about the patients...myself included. As a retired CNA, I know the job is tough. I was bleeding and had to go back under. My drains we're filling often. I held onto the bed to reach the specimen bottles to unload the drains and record output..then was talked about for not staying in bed. My doc told me to get up every hour to prevent blood clots. Covid is no excuse for treating patients badly. I worked during the begining of HIV. I know how stressing it can be.

Fantastic experience with lap band to gastric by pass conversion surgery here. My surgery started later then scheduled but that wasn t the hospital or surgeon s fault. My 2 hour surgery lasted 4 hours due to adhesion in my intestines. (Thank God for Dr. Pryor!) Woke up in my room hit the call button and the nurse was there in no time. Never felt neglected and the doctors and nurses were superb and answered all my questions and concerns.
