Potomac Community Resources, Inc. (PCR) is a non-profit organization that provides therapeutic, recreational, social, and respite care programs for teens and adults with developmental differences. PCR was founded in 1983 by a group of parents who were seeking opportunities for their children with developmental differences to participate in community activities. Since then, PCR has grown into an organization that serves over 1,000 individuals each year.
PCR's mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with developmental differences by providing inclusive social and recreational programs that promote growth, independence, and self-esteem. The organization offers a wide range of programs designed to meet the unique needs of each individual participant.
One of PCR's most popular programs is its therapeutic horseback riding program. This program provides participants with the opportunity to ride horses while receiving physical therapy benefits such as improved balance and coordination. The program also helps participants develop emotional connections with the horses they ride.
In addition to its therapeutic horseback riding program, PCR offers a variety of other recreational programs such as art classes, cooking classes, dance classes, music therapy sessions and more. These programs are designed to help participants develop new skills while having fun in a supportive environment.
PCR also offers respite care services for families who have loved ones with developmental differences. Respite care provides temporary relief for caregivers so they can take time off from their caregiving responsibilities knowing their loved one is being cared for in a safe environment.
