pick a different hotel, the service was horrible. also had some trouble with the bathroom, and not a single employee was around to help. they have marked off areas, yet the guests still go in there. not only that but i sense there was something wrong with the water? when i showered i still felt somewhat sticky and there was an odor coming from the faucet

Several murders as well as unexplained deaths have occurred here. Hotel is in one of Los Angeles' roughest areas. Creepy vibe throughout. Filthy. Should be demolished. Go stay at the Days Inn or the Loews Hollywood Hotel, where I usually stay.

These reviews are not funny. An innocent women died and you're treating it as a joke. Please get help.

The security there is really strict. They check to make sure you have a key. The breakfest is ok, very filling even tho it only has waffles juice and cereal. Rooms are small but that's what we wanted. Very cheap. Don't pay attention to the history because it's bull. There is wifi here. No parking. Free ping-pong. I give it 3 star.

I stayed for 3 nights during the month of March 2013 and had a good experience. It was very clean, breakfast was okay, the staff was very nice, the location convenient - all for a great price! The only downside is the homeless that walk the streets at night, but I would still recommend it!

I have never been there but there are many terrifying stories of that HOtel, especially that of ELisa Lang ... hopefully and I do not have to stay there someday ...

This hotel/hostel/motel inspite of all the negative stories and events that happened im it, will be flocking with fans of american horror stories series. I will go here soon.

Lobby is the only nice thing about this place. Rooms smell weird. Decorations none. Wish I would of known would of spent the extra cash.

No private bathroom. Very sketchy place. And there's no fitness room.... There's an "area" with a few weights...

It is scary I would hear things the water is back and nasty I don't know why is this still open after what happened the the people that died there

Okay, to everyone who is stating the water is black, okay I get it, sometimes water gets contaminated and dirt gets in it, it happens a lot, but seriously, it's so disrespectful to Elisa Lam and the maintenance workers who worked hard to clean the tanks. Elisa Lam's death is still a mystery and was merely ruled as an 'accidental drowning'. For everyone to mock the poor woman and say that the water tastes bad or that the water was discolored is extremely disrespectful, not only to her, but also to her family who had to struggle with her death. So stop it. It's not funny and you look very immature.

Not fantastic rooms or facilities, but great location for downtown Los Angeles where you can easily jump on a metro to the walk of fame or grab a bus up to the Griffith Observatory! Also a great little cinema room with free popcorn, table tennis and a little gym section from when you've eaten too many of birdies doughnuts!

Good and clean hotel. Very simple but if you are looking for something to sleep in at reasonable prices, this is good advice! The staff is very friendly! The nearest metro station is also within walking distance.

The service was to die for and the broken elevator was a fun time killer. Dying to return!

Very affordable, fabulous lobby, movies to borrow, free ping pong and board games. Rooms are sparse, fairly clean, sufficient if you just need a bed as we did. No AC, just ceiling fans, which can make for rough sleep in hot weather (windows open, sirens much of the night). Staff is nice and helpful. Free breakfast is all flour and sugar, no protein or even fruit, don't count on that to start your day.

Small room and in very bad condition. In the bathroom, the sink was inside the shower. If you wanted to wash your face or brush your teeth, you had to get into the shower to do it. Very low and scarce water pressure.
Breakfast, no more. Bad wifi connection awful. If you are still thinking about staying, look for its old name (Hotel Cecil) in any search engine and hallucinate ...

I stayed here 4 nights in late august, you cannot complain for what you pay, you get fed, breakfast cereal, coffee, juice! you get a shower, (shared) a comfortable and clean bed . in a basic small room for 39-00 dollars. what more do you want?: if u want more get a 4 star hotel and stop whining!! great friendly staff. very clean building, share the hotel amenities next door at the Cecil too. this is down town L A.. not some glitzy spoilt tourist trap!, real people live here from all walks of life. be careful late at night , be sensible and all will b well. This IS the CECIL HOTEL or was... Now it's the bright and shiny, Stay on Main! Remember Elisa Lam? A couple of serial killers, drugs, prostitution, and crime of all kinds. Oh what lovely scenery-- Skid Row and everything below 5th street and Los Angeles. I've lived and hung out there. Something dark definitely runs those halls and confusing corridors. Beware. Bright and shiny + a name change, = same damn horror stories.

First time here, from what i saw on the website it was very much accurate. We got a room with our own private bathroom ! Great choice! All in all it was cheap and comfortable so I'd definitely be back here.

Me and my friend needed a quick place to stay on our journey back home. Stay on main was central to everything, and has a lot of history. I heard it s on skid row, but the people were actually super helpful and polite. The rooms were creepy, I ll give it that, but definitely made a great story for my experience there. Didn t die 5/5

I slept alone in the hotel for 5 nights (w, 20), and stayed in a 6-bed room. There was only company for one night, so the rest of the time it was more or less a private room. It was very nicely decorated and clean. There was a telephone, wifi, a TV and a sink in the room.
However, the showers / toilets were quite warm and had a very high level of humidity, which I found quite uncomfortable. However, it was cleaned every morning.

The rest (reception, lounges) were okay and I met nice people.
Breakfast was okay (is typical with pancakes and orange juice).

The area is not recommended in the evening, but definitely safe during the day (if you know where to go).

The staff was absolutely friendly and helpful!

Conclusion: For the price it is definitely okay and appropriate for a few nights (even alone as a woman). You just have to make it clear beforehand what you are getting into. It's a hostel and not a hotel.

Nasty place, never again will I stay in this hotel. Wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here.

The hotel is so amazing! Hotel staff everywhere..literally everywhere like inside the elevator, water tank, under your bed.
It's always christmas in there since the lights are like christmas lights that goes ON and OFF.
Such an unforgetable experience. Five stars!!!

Well.... it was not a bad hotel however I was there when they found the body of Elisa in the water tank. I thought the water tasted a bit funny but I just assumed in was just the way water tasted in LA. I stayed almost a week and it was the 2nd week her body was in there. Let's just say I'll never forget that hotel again!!!!!

That hotel was worth it. Old entrance hall beautiful. The room are rather nice. Only bad points : restrooms and showers on the corridor were not that clean and the breakfast is not worth it.

I stayed in a double room with private bathroom on the 8th floor and it was all OK. They receive orders and have a breakfast (ultrabasic). For the price and location it's worth it. Make the reservation in advance and search on sites because you always have discounts.

A nice hotel that has certainly improved. Staff was professional and not creepy and renovated rooms were comfortable and clean. Water had no foul smell or taste. We stayed on the 4th floor. Would recommend but read the history of the Cecil before checking in.

First off, this is an old hotel. There have been renovations but it's still old. Really important to know is that this hotel doesn't have air conditioning. That didn't bother me because I keep my apartment hot but that might be a deal breaker for others. Also know that the walls are thin and you can here people taking a shower or their TV at times. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. The rate is very reasonable. I didn't have any bugs in my room. I would stay here again.

Not bad hostel, I liked everyday cleaning in rooms and towel chanching. Good breakfast. Bathrooms is not clean perfectly but it is a lot of people using it. Not good distict to walk in nighttime, but near to metroline and union station. All staff in hotel is frendly.

Over all my stay was questionable. The staff were great, they informed me of where and where not to go ( the black areas and non black). The rooms where nice and affordable. The beds were comfortable and big. The elevators would sometimes not work, at one point I started freaking out but I just took the stairs like any logical human. The food at the hotel was bad to say the least. The Staff directed me to to a small Chinese food restaurant, which was worse than the hotel, Rather soggy. The tap water was pungent, it wasn't the best, I'd bring your own. The weather was pretty awful rainy and dark, so the bad weather could a just made the hotel seem good. Either way, I'd come here for one day or two, never stay more than that.

Security. According to the guide, there is a lot of homeless in one southeastern street, so please do not go through it. There was no particular danger when I walked in the street in front of the hotel at night, and there are several small shops nearby. But when I was smoking in front of the hotel I was entangled at around 50% with homeless people who came from somewhere. It was like feeling like "Please give me a cigarette," "Please give me a dollar," "Well, do you have a lighter?" Was my luck good in some sense or bad in some sense? I do not recommend it for women.

For the rate, the Stay on Main is perfect. The rooms are TINY but if you need a place to crash while taking care of business in central L.A., it's easy peasy to get around from here and you get free waffles and coffe thrown in.

I stayed for 2 nights last 2016 with my family. The pictures that they posted are not correct. Beds are too narrow, bathroom is too small and no hot water. I didn't know the history of this hotel until now. Kinda creepy.

Awesome! It looks like a horror movie and the service sucks. Worst hotel I've ever stayed. I had to leave and go to another because this could not stay.

The photos that they advertised for the queen size private room were misleading, although this may be the booking websites fault. The bed is extremely uncomfortable, the TV quality is very poor, very few outlets in the room as well. Overall the hostel has a good vibe about it but I think the patrons and lobby decor bring that, not the staff.
