After having 6 surgeries in this hospital since 1997, my opinion of this hospital and staff was number one on my list. This morning I'm in room 527 and I had a spinal fuse and the 21 year old nurse Katie told me the pain I was feeling was in my head. I never dreamed St. Vincent's would have staff like this. If there are more of these people in staff this hospital is going to be looked at as the other poorly staffed hospitals in Birmingham. Im deeply disappointed

My mom spent 6 days here. Everything great except moving out of ICU to another room took 8 hours and we were assigned a room at 10 that morning . Now going home , was told at 11:00 am everything was ready for her to go except we had to wait on oxygen. It's now 3:30 PM still here and still no oxygen

Was admitted with stomach pain & possible blockage found by my GP. Kept me four days just to run up my insurance bill as they did NO TESTING to see what was causing the issue. Thanks, Healthcare Reform. NOT the charitable hospital it is made out to be. I was stuck with a huge bill (and I WORKED THERE & HAD THEIR INSURANCE) for nothing. St. Vincent's is now my LAST choice in Birmingham hospitals. Go to UAB, or anywhere else.

Luckily I was not the patient but my friend was. We are both R.N.s and agreed that in case of an emergency we would definitely want to be taken to St. Vince . We both have changed our minds. It all started with the e.r..then the terrible treatment she received pre and postoperative. Unfortunately my Dr. practices there.
Have to investigate other options. What a dilemma!

It's funny for me to see a few people saying they had surgery here but they couldn't save my mom by draining the little blood off her brain and telling my aunt that they don't believe in surgeries like really I'll recommend nobody to come here it's been 3months today since my mom been gone

My grandmother just passed away at St. Vincent's after a month of horrible care. She was moved to five different floors and a couple of hours after her last move I walked in to her room, where she had obviously passed, to a group of shocked staff that stated they had just checked on her fifteen minutes before and she was ok. I was told a doctor would call me which has still not happened (she died at 7pm on July 1st it's now July 7th). And I sat with her body for an hour and a half after she died and saw no staff but a nurse (though we did get a card from the "spiritual care team" sent to her address 5 days later). My grandmother went in with a mild issue which I personally feel the hospital exacerbated and created new issues on top of. She endured a ridiculous number of tests over the course of a month and we were never given a diagnosis and still have no real idea what happened or why she got progressively worse. We asked for a transfer of hospitals and were told we would need to speak to a chaplain which never happened and we never saw one. All of the incidents that happened are too many to list here, though I did document them and took what photos I could. I would not even take my pets to this hospital. I highly doubt this review will do any good, as my father did one as well before her death and got a reply to please call them. He did so hoping they would help resolve the issues we were having and had to leave a message and was never contacted back. If you can help it and you love the people in your life DO NOT take them to this hospital. I live down the street and will never go here again.

Please, if I have a problem and you're around, do NOT take me here. I have been there several times to visit and seen towels, trash and medical devices laying on the floor in the ER. I have witnessed the nursing staff ignore the cries of the patients. I have seen unconscious patients bumped into walls on gurneys breaking the skin.

Take me to UAB!!!

Awful, i would never recommend this terrible place to anyone, had major surgery, i was neglected and uncared for. Pitiful excuses for nurses. Scary actually. My dr was just about as bad. Im sorry they are getting paid so well for my surgery and time there. They really let me suffer besides being nasty. The person i had with me did everything for me, even changed my sheets after 2 days of laying in bodily fluids. I thought i was in hell. So sad, I cried for a week about this.

I went to the ER immediately after a car wreck only because the other two hospitals that I chose Before this one was full. Before finding out what was wrong or if i was hurting or had anything on me that was broken they had me to walk Instead of giving me a wheelchair after I arrived. I was not given a room to wait in nor did i have a doctor to speak with me about possible pain or what they think maybe wrong. I did have XRays done but the Xray tech was pretty rough with me during that time frame. I had to constantly tell her that I was in pain & to be careful how she just turn the area that was in pain.Instead of simply taking her time to tell me where or how to move areas that were very sore. She assist on turning me roughly the way & angles that she needed me in. I'm very attentive & I take directions very well. So, I would've simply turned how she wanted/needed me to. I was in the car wreck with my significant other but we were transported in separate ambulances. Therefore, I did NOT see them while i was in the hospital. After XRays I politely asked if i could be stopped at a desk that we were passing to ask if my significant other had made it in & if they had a room etc because not seeing them there by this time i was very worried. I was pushed passed the desk to a waiting area with three other people & told that i would have to wait for a nurse to come in. I waited 15mins & no one came in. So, I then struggled to the desk to ask if that person had made it in. The nurse verified that they did & gave me their room number. Now Let me remind you that i was the person with insurance & I made it to the hospital wayy before my significant other did. Not long after I saw him I was then released maybe 30 mins after they were done with Xrays. It was my first car wreck so i only knew that I'll have some pain. All I was told was that I had no broken bones. In which I already knew that.I honestly felt as if i was judged from the time that i came in & that I was treated like a person who didn't have any insurance in which I did!! And very good insurance may I add. I feel like they ONLY cared about the payments & the fact that i had insurance. They didnt actually care about the patient. I've been to them three or four times in the matter of three years and each & every time Their service was horrible. Because of how I was treated I would NOT go back there again nor would I refer anyone or even take a family member there not even for a paper cut!

Adequate care in a tired facility. Have an advocate with you, ask a lot of questions, watch the nursing staff carefully. Communucation and basic services are sort of C-.

I should clarify that the person I'm caring for is a parent who has been hospitalized for eight days with congestive heart failure, the last three of those in this hospital. We still have only a vague suggestion of treatment, nothing concrete, nothing actually scheduled. I flew to this hospital across the country and have sat here three full says watching, waiting, helping. So this is no off-the-cuff review. Tonight they almost didn't feed the patient dinner.

Admitted through ER and had an arteriogram done the next day. Not a single bad experience, the entire staff was not only professional but caring.
6th floor and Cath lab nurses were great!
All Doctors kept me updated and showed the same amount of care for my well being.
Hospital stays are not pleasant but the team here made us feel cared for.
Thanks

This has nothing to do with hospital care and everything to do with their billing and customer service departments. I have told this hospital for 14 months to file to my insurance. Each time I speak with the customer care/hospital, they reply they will BUT don't. Now they sent me to a collection company. Steaming mad and can't get ahold of anyone who will actually follow through. Just had a three-way conversation between "customer no-care" at the hospital, my insurance and myself. I hold no hope.

I love St Vincent's.It's the hospital with the most caring doctors and staff in Birmingham. There is never a time that I have went to this hospital and not been 100% satisfied. There is no other hospital that I would rather go to for all my healthcare needs.

Yes the wait times now at both st Vincent's are in...

Yes the wait times now at both st Vincent's are incredibly long east can have up to 7 hours ER wait times. People need to realize that they have opened a fast track clinic in the ER to take pressure off the main ER for the serious cases in which people still have to wait; that is why you see people that "don't look sick" going back. The clinic has no ER beds which means they will not be getting an IV in the arm or a heart monitor. What you see on TV is NOT the same reality as real life. Because of some primary care doctors have now stopped accepting Medicaid/Medicare the hospital ER now gets the overflow of paitients needing exams, physicals, etc. hence why they have forced to open a fast track clinic to get them out of the ER. So if you voted for Obamacare congratulations you are now seeing one of the "benefits" of forcing everyone to have insurance and why you hear there is a shortage of RNs, so if you want change go back to school get your RN degree and make a change or just go somewhere else make the drive to 280. I love st Vincent's they are the only hospital left where their employees can still pray over you and talk about God and not get into trouble.

Recently spent two nights at St Vincent's after knee surgery which was a great experience as far as the ortho. Dr's. and nurses and the hospital staff. BUT from the first time I turned on my TV it didn't work properly . I called Several times, told nurses and was told they would take care of it. . I NEVER RECEIVED A DIFFERENT TELEVISION. I feel so petty even bringing it up the BUT to stay there those 2 nights and the amount of money that cost it just doesn't seem right. Maybe by me complaining something will change for the next person.

St. Vincent's St. Clair's Nurse Practitioner, the female, is terrible!! She will not treat your symptoms nor listen to your concerns for your reason for visiting the ER! She should be disbarred from practicing medicine! She has no bedside manors nor empathy for patients! She's an awful nurse; they shouldn't let her in the room to treat patients!

Went to ER for dehydration. Wait time was ok. Nurse came in and drew blood and put in IV with no bag. Dr came in and because I said I smoked and was slightly wheezing, he brought up possibly having COPD. I was there the week before and had a perfect chest x-ray because I was again dehydrated. Never saw Dr again but many tests where preformed. When I asked WHY the Dr was ordering the test I was basically ignored. After waiting 5 hours for the Dr to return and tell me ANYTHING, we left. I was contacted by phone 15 minutes later and told to return so they could take out the IV needle. I said I had already done it and they hung up on me. Don't go to this ER. They put fear into you and then leave you scared and afraid and treat you like you are an idiot when you ask WHY a test is being done.

My experience with St. Vincent hospital has been the worse. 2 surgery within 24 hours for a collapse lung because the ER door didn't inserted it properly. Four hour wait in the ER after the Urgent Care called them and told what was wrong with me and event sent my xrays. I left and went home they called me to come in the next morning and when I got there no one know anything took them 30 minutes to get me in the back. Now trying to get all of my medical bills paid is horrible. I have two insurance and they still keep send me bills from collection agency even put thing on my credit. Worse hospital in Birmingham

So thankful for the ER Dr and nurse I had last Monday. I ended up being admitted and had surgery done came down with pancreatitis after surgery and than bacterial pneumonia before I left. Finally got released a whole week later. It was a hit and miss with some nurses but the only problem I had was going 6 to 8 hours without ever seeing a nurse or a pca during the day and when calling it would still be hours till they came into my room. Other than that I cant complain.

Hi, my grandmother spent 2 months in 5 West with some of the worst care I had ever heard of. Nurses laughing at her, not to mention when she passed there - there was no compassionate care to help ease the pain for my grandfather. Oh! And the phone that suspiciously went "missing" the day she passed. I have tried contacting everyone I could think of but no response. Thank you to whoever stole her phone. Photos of her and I that I will never be able to get back. I demand to speak to someone about the treatment given to my grandmother, lack of communication, nurses and doctors "losing" our phone numbers after giving them the same numbers approximately 7 times.

At Saint Vincent's Hospital in downtown Birmingham...

At Saint Vincent's Hospital in downtown Birmingham I was rudely talked to. When I called to ask about my husband and to get information about his condition I was told someone would call me back but no one ever did. The doctor did call me when he was discharged to tell me to come get my husband. He did talk to me but he never really explained to me what was wrong with my husband. The doctor just gave me instructions for after my husband got home. When I called the hospital after he was discharged and asked a nurse what they found out about my husband's condition I was told "we gave you paperwork. Read it." No explanation of any kind just a rude answer of "we gave you paperword, read it" I had read the paperword before I talked with the nurse but didn't understand what it said so that is why I called to get someone to explain to me what the medical terms in the paperwork meant, but no one would talk with me. I called the patient advocate twice. The first time I called I was told the patient advocate was not in. The second time I called I had to leave a message and asked that someone call me back, but no one ever called me. We still don't know what the doctors at Saint Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham found out about my husband. I felt the people especially the nurses were rude and would not talk with me. We asked the ambulance to take my husband to Saint Vincent's hospital, because we were told it was a good place to go for heart patients. But the way we were treated we will never go back to that hospital again. If you like being ignored and treated rudely that is the place to go. If you want kindness and concern when someone in your family is sick, find another hospital. I have been in other hospitals several times and have always been treated with dignity, respect, and kindness. If you need to be admited to a hospital don't go to Saint Vincent's hospital in downtown Birmingham.

This is the worst hospital, seriously, it's never clean the room floors are always sticky and the the bathrooms dirty, the doctors seem to take their time when it comes to seeing the patients and discharging them, it's ridiculous my mother in law and father in law have had hospital stays here several several times due to health issues they have and we've never had a pleasant experience here, I advice anyone against this place! Go to UAB, or anywhere else for that matter!

We dealt with employees in the Orthosports office, pre-admission, waiting room and O/P Surgery areas as patients of Dr Edward Kissel, twice in one month's time....I had knee surgery, my husband, shoulder. Both times went perfectly for both of us. STV staff in the actual procedure areas have always been great....other departments vary, sometimes, in the quality of service. But the professionals are always that - professional and really do seem to care about their jobs and their patients.

The hospital is fine but their billing practices are terrible. I received a statement - no billing summary in June. It took two requests to get a billing summary. The bill was paid the same month but yet their policy is to turn over the bill after 30 days to Medical Financial Solutions. So it takes 3 months to get you a bill and you have less than 30 days to pay it.

I had an abscess under my arm. They lanced it and drained it. The Dr roughly jabbed a scissor type tool into my arm pit. He packed it and sent me home with antibiotic and ibuprofen. I am in serious pain and I believe itnis inhumane to treat a patient, send them home with an open wound with no pain medication. I am sorely disappointed and probably won't return that WE. I am in severe pain and cannot use this arm without creating more pain. And then whem I was leaving they said God bless you. Yeah right.

I've never had an issue with any of my many many ER visits or routine Doctor visits in this hospital. I've always been seen promptly and triaged in the proper order.

The one thing I did notice throughout the hospital and Dr. Offices is that the nurses are so stressed that they do not take proper BP readings. Most nurses just make up a number because they are distracted.

Also I found that being discharged 5 hours after laproscopic hyster surgery was just heartless! Talk about needing those beds!!

Okay, so I went in lastnight for what I thought wa...

Okay, so I went in lastnight for what I thought was a spider bite on my buttocks(which happened to be a boil), I was super nervous because of the pain this was causing. Some background of myself: I have very high anxiety and bipolar. Therefore since I was so nervous coming in I was very talkative and I couldn't catch my breathe, some would say I was acting very irrational. In my opinion I was just being really awkward. Everything was fine until I was sitting in the room, waiting and heard at least three nurses laughing at me in the hallway because of how I was acting. I'm not gonna lie I was very hurt by this. These women and men are 30-40 years old and they're laughing because my anxietys getting the best of me. No one tried to make me feel better about why I was there. And quite frankly they didn't care that my feelings were hurt at all. How can you work at a hospital, and be sympathetic for those who are physically hurt when you arent even a bit sympathetic for a 19 year old female patient having a anxiety attack over a painful boil. Laughing the hallway making jokes. Coming back into the room waiting for me to do something for you to laugh at and then when I'm finally calmed down not freaking out or acting out you walk out of my room and say it loud and clearly yeah she heard us!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Is there not some kind of rule about nurses or doctors making patients feel like crap. The third and forth time these women walked into my room they started kissing my butt and kept pointing out that it didn't take me long and how well I was taken care of. All because I said it very loudly in my room on the phone with my mother that I was going to write a review.
They were more worried about the fact that I was going to write a review and make them look bad rather than that they crushed my spirit. I will never refer anyone to this hospital nor be making a trip back. Princeton was much better than this. Maybe if I would have received an apology I wouldn't have written this review. But I seriously felt like no one cared about how they made me feel. Very selfish.

Ms. Jennifer Fox is a direct representation of your facility. What she writes on social media and her link of employment makes her as such. In no way should a person employed by a facility who's mission is in direct conflict of her obvious beliefs based on her statements.

Our Mission
Rooted in the loving ministry of Jesus as healer, we commit ourselves to serving all persons with special attention to those who are poor and vulnerable.

Our Catholic health ministry is dedicated to spiritually centered, holistic care which sustains and improves the health of individuals and communities.

We are advocates for a compassionate and just society through our actions and our words.

Our Vision
We envision a strong, vibrant Catholic health ministry in the United States which will lead to the transformation of healthcare. We will ensure service that is committed to health and well-being for
our communities and that responds to the needs of individuals throughout the life cycle. We will expand the role of the laity, in both leadership and sponsorship, to ensure a Catholic health
ministry of the future.

Our Values
We Are Called To:

Service of the Poor
Generosity of spirit, especially for persons most in need
Reverence
Respect and compassion for the dignity and diversity of life
Integrity
Inspiring trust through personal leadership

Integrating excellence and stewardship
Creativity
Courageous innovation
Dedication
Affirming the hope and joy of our ministry

Ms. Fox felt the need to voice those beliefs on social media full of hatred and racial comments. We the people ask that swift action be taken against Ms. Fox as no one deserves to be faced with such uncaring hatred in the eyes of illness and casualty such as the one faced in Las Vegas nor in any situation which brings them to a facility in which they should be treated with nothing but care and respect.

On the night that my friend was admitted to the hospital after having spent 12 hours in the emergency department being mistreated by the nurses in the ED she was transferred to 3 west lying in feces and with enosis on her gown. The nurse was a male, of African heritage who obviously has no compassion and should find another line of work. The next morning I attempted to visit her before she went downstairs for an EGD and a colonoscopy I spent 20 minutes circling through the women's center parking deck and never found a parking spot. Finally in sheer desperation I parked illegally. Once inside the hospital, all I can say is "way finding" is next to impossible. It is easier finding your way around UAB than here. If you have a choice, choose another healthcare provider.

My wife came in Saturday January 19th she has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and COPD. She has no insurance but these people admitted her and have been doing all they possibly can to get her better. The progress has been slow but steady. We still don't when she may be well to go home. I know this for a fact you couldn't find a better hospital.

As a leading health insurance broker for almost 30 years in the Birmingham market I have experience with all the hospitals in Jefferson County. I watched the system at this hospital fail every day for almost three weeks with a family member. This system is broken. As a matter of fact, many of the care givers in the building agree. I feel compelled to help others benefit from what we observed. You have a choice in hospitals: For the love of your family members, go somewhere else. I don't say this out of anger or grief, I say this out of basic common sense. People should know our story. It would take too long to explain everything that went wrong. Nothing short of bizarre at times, downright scary at other times. There are care givers in the building that are absolutely excellent at their job. They are at the mercy of system that fails the patients they care about.

Probably the worst emergency room experience of my life. Went to er and they made me wait for HOURS in room. I thought they'd forgotten about me. I would have died if I hadn't screamed for help. All were condescending including a-hole doctor female nurses, pblebotomist, etc. They were all laughing when I was screaming in pain. Nurse call button was deliberately placed out of my reach. I would not go back to St Vincent's for ANYTHING. They should be investigated and shut down

The staff is nice. Very helpful and caring. Housekeeping has been the most wonderful experience of our stay. A wonderful lady in which we do not know her name took the time to be with my dad one night. She was so sincere, prayed and listened in his time of need and really touched our hearts.
However the parking deck is outrageous !!. Families on a budget or anyone for that matter that has loved ones in the hospital, have unexpected expenses. Such as food, lodging or gas. Not to mention the copayments.
$4-$6 a DAY for parking. A week goes by, then two and that's per family member (PER CAR). There should be some type of system for immediate family members, such as some type of free or discounted parking for extended stays. Nothing is posted our information is given to the families.

I was taken to St Vincent s Birmingham via.ambulance a couple of days after a car accident with a fluke heart/trauma incident. From the moment I arrived I was treated in the most belittling, dehumanizing manner. As if I didn t know anything about my own body and the difference about how it felt when it was normal & when something was terrible wrong. None of the staff from the nurse to the nursing assistants to the dr, a Dr Maude Crepault would listen to anything I told them. I am an extremely difficult stick when it comes to drawing blood or starting an IV & most of the time a member of the PIC team has to be called. Because this was a Sunday, supposedly the PIC team wasn t there, so the dr brought in a a sonogram machine to find a vein which was in the top of my arm. It hurt like heck. So bad that my arm & hand began to swell. I pressed the nurses button to let them know this & after 12 minutes of the alarm going off, a long haired CNA came in the room & I told him what the problem was. He said he would tell my nurse, but in the meantime I had to be taken to CT. There was someone currently having a CT, so I was left in the hallway for 30 minutes. I again told this CNA told him that this IV needed to be looked at & he said in a belittling tone, I ll let the nurse know & as soon as you return, she ll take a look . When the CT tech, who was the only person in the entire hospital with any compassion or sense for that matter came out with the patient she had been working with & got me, she was asking the usual questions as to whether I was allergic to contrast and such. I said no. I didn t even have to tell her the trouble I was having with the IV because she took one look at my arm and could see how much bigger it was than the other. First she wanted to know who put it in and then she asked if I had asked them to look at it & I said yes. She immediately removed it. She did attempt to put one more in my hand but it instantly blew & she wasn t going to put me through any other pain. I had been back from CT for almost an hour when that same CNA came in to see if they had checked on my IV.
When it was first inserted it was to give me pain & nausea meds plus fluids. The dr had ordered Zoltan for nausea & I asked if she would please give me phenogran instead. Zophran doesn t work for me. I have a long history of migraines & nausea is a common symptom that occurs with my migraines & phenogran is the only thing that will work. She refused.
I asked to see the dr. in charge of the ER, but instead the sent in the charge nurse who was about as useful as a piece of dust on the ground.
I also asked for each of their names & was told it would be on the paper work when I left, which I knew was a lie as soon it was said.
That Monday I called the head of the Emergency Room, a Ruth White to explain the treatment I had received. I have still not received a call back from her. She has now had 10 days to return my call which is more than enough time to respond. I have only made one call to her. I have not harassed her with multiple messages, but tomorrow I will call her again. This time if I do not get a response from her, I will go above her head and find out who her boss is.
I don t find going to the emergency room a pleasant way to spend my day. It was not how I wanted to spend my Sunday. However, when I do go I expect to be treated with compassion, respect, and like someone who knows what is wrong with their body. I don t want other people to receive the same care that I did. I expect their to be some type of repercussion for their actions. I don t just want to vent at a figure head.
Take my advice, the next time you are in need of medical emergency care, do not go to St. Vincent s Birmingham! If there were an option to not give any stars, I would not. If they continue to practice this type of patient care, there ER will no longer exist.

This is a wonderful hospital! What I thought was a charley horse, turned out to be a bucket handle tear of the meniscus. Thank God for Dr. McGough for quickly repairing my meniscus! Surgery was a breeze and Dr. McGough and nurses made sure my mind was at ease at all times. However, prior to my surgery, an MRI was ordered. I went to the imaging center at the hospital. While the receptionist, Marie, was super sweet and accommodating, one of the radiology technicians, Rita, was extremely rude. Her attitude was very nasty and she obviously lacked people skills. This is certainly not the profession for her and I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with her. Perhaps she can acquire more personality before coming in contact with other patients. Other than that, St. Vincent's is a great place!

I went to the ER on 6/25/2019 for CT scan, blood work for GI problem. My doctor sent me to ER to make sure I didn't have a perforation. The experience for me was nothing short of excellent. From the registration, test, ct scan and staff, was wonderful . Can't say enough good things about my visit

We were robbed of over $2,000 by this hospital. Paid for a surgery and after paying they said that the deductible was resetting and that we had to start over paying for the surgery that they still haven't performed. Whoever is running is place should be put in n prison. Don't ever go here unless you have a lawyer with you!!!!!!!!
