I was taken to the San Clemente Palace by my boyfriend for a surprise weekend away this August bank holiday weekend...it is the most amazing place I have ever been! The grounds and the building are incredible, and all the furnishing and decorations are beautiful. The staff were all wonderfully accommodating and couldn't do enough to help you, the peace and quiet away from Venice was a godsend after a busy day, and the boats were extremely convenient...I could go on and on about how good it was, I loved everything about it!

Whilst we were there, my boyfriend proposed on sunset hill and everything about it was perfect; the Ladies in Red helped him to plan and execute the perfect proposal complete with flowers, candles and champagne, and they did the whole thing with total discretion, I had no idea what was coming!

It was perfect, and I loved every minute of our trip, we are already planning to return for our honeymoon!

Beautiful hotel with everything right where you need it. They offer boats to the main island of Venice every half hour so it's easy to get there and back, staff are attentive and friendly, good size pool and a great little gym and spa on site too.

One of the most beautiful hotels I have seen in Venice. A wonderful park in the middle of the lagoon and a structure with elegant interiors with a glitz without excess. The small church is also used for classical music concerts. Unfortunately, the aesthetics of the structure is penalized by its ancient intended use, therefore it is massive and "closed" but it goes well with everything else.

The three of us spent four wonderful days in Venice and the San Clemente Palace.
I can recommend the hotel island and the location to every visitor to Venice.
Opposite the crowded and noisy city, the hotel is a place of rest and relaxation.
The free shuttle boat takes you to St. Mark's Square in just 25 minutes and is right in the middle of the action.
The hotel and our room were very stylish with Venetian elements.
What we didn't like was the service at breakfast and dinner.
The reception was always very nice, but the service staff made an untrained, boring and sometimes annoyed impression. The first thing you will be asked is whether you want to order something, but without naming the options. If necessary, cards should also be displayed by the hotel. One day it takes about 30 minutes for our boiled eggs to arrive.
I can only recommend a dinner in the Acquarello restaurant if you sit nicely (with a view of Venice).
The food, which had an above-average price, tasted below average, arrived lukewarm and drinks (wine / water) were only refilled on request.
The rooms are great, but unfortunately there was a bit of mold in our shower, something we haven't seen before at Kempinski.

I think that since the hotel was only recently taken over, it continues to develop positively and will recommend it to others.

Top hotel on a small island in front of Venice. The hotel extends over the whole island, so there is nobody on the island except for the hotel guests and the staff.
Very high relaxation factor after a hard day in Venice. The hotel is one of the Leading Hotels of the World, which of course says a lot about the quality of the hotel.

The staff is very eager to please their guests. That was "tested" by me with two special requests, and these were resolved very quickly and very satisfactorily.

Far away from mass tourism, Venice can be reached by taxi boat / lightning within 10 minutes

For everyone who appreciates tranquility and still wants to be quickly at your hotspot in Venice.

Hotel is beautiful. Staff friendly. However we visited at season open and it was warm, over 20C yet they still had the heating on full blast and even asking for it to be turned down several times it wasn't. The windows were also locked so there was no relief at all. No exaggeration to say that I didn't sleep at all that night it was so uncomfortable. I'd also like to see more regular boats to venice, at times once an hour seems too little

Had a fabulous stay here in October. It's an escape from the busy and noise from Venice. The hotel has a free water to and from the square. It feels like a peaceful escape. It's a traditional but slightly modern style hotel (definitely not like the old Venetian style of rooms like some of the hotels on the island). The good was quite good, as well as cocktails as the staff were really attentive. I was missing facecloths from my room and it took the next day for this to be sorted (I think there was a language barrier as I had more hand towels instead in my room). The only thing missing for this hotel is a spa, which they are working on and should open in spring 2017.

A real palace with a service at the height. Everything is refined. The bedding is excellent, the pool beautiful, the park is a joy. Note there is a shuttle bus between the island and San Marco Square.

Unique structure on the island of San Clemente, well structured, with services for guests such as spa, outdoor pool, golf course and taxi to reach Venice. Good service, excellent cuisine.

Excellent Hotel
I have barely arrived and it has impressed me
It is a private island, about 10 min from Venice. Above average amenities.

We had the most memorable meal in Acquerello Restaurant while staying at the San Clemente. It was absolutely outstanding- the beautiful evening outdoors on the terrace, the entire meal was delicious! But the evening was made truly memorable by the excellent service provided by Marco and Stephanie B. We will never forget them! They both took such good care of us during our meal. We felt truly pampered! I told my husband it was the best dining experience I ve ever had.

What a beautiful resort! Breathtaking views and an impeccably maintained property offering guests the best of amenities, customer service, and comfort. Highly recommended and certainly stay for a min of 3 nights! (Ps. they have the only wood-fired oven in Venice.)

Former hospital island turned into a 5 stars Hotel run by Kempinsky. I particularly appreciated the terrace bar with view of the Giudecca Island and San Marco on a distance; great choice of Venetian and Italian aperitives.

Heavenly place in a private island in Venice. We had truly amazing stay in this lovely hotel from arrival to the end. Staffs are very friendly, attentive and professional. The ground and the views from the hotel is beautiful. Everything was perfect and so lovely.

Only small downside is having no kettle/tea/coffee maker at the room. They happily delivered a kettle when requested because I needed hot water for my sore throat but it would have been better already to have it in the room.

Note: They have very nice complimentary shuttle boat between the hotel and San Marco square, every half an hour. The schedule looks every 20 and 50min but there is some slightly different running time along the way. For example, there is no boat service at 1:20pm probably having 1 hour lunch break for boat drivers and in the evening sometimes it runs 10min earlier or later making 40min. gap between. We didn't pay close attention to this slight difference, and ended up missing the boat 2 times which lead to 30 min running late to our reservation to a restaurant or other schedule. Little reminder to guest to pay attention to this slight difference on schedule would be a nice touch, although I know it was completely our mistake not to pay attention :-)

In addition to waiting for the barge for a long time, everything else is great

When visiting to look around the hotel we had lunch and were disappointed. Expensive c30 euro per pasta dish, was expecting at this price to have better presentation, service and quality of food. Also to note this was the first location to suffer from wasps and flies. Note this is not a rating on the overall hotel just lunch at Garden bar.

I surprised my girlfriend by taking her to Venise at the Kempinski palace. We were welcomed like Venetian prince and princess, we got upgraded in navigante junior suite, view on the lagoon, rose petals on the bed, we lived a dream!! Staff is very kind and concierge amazing. I would recommend to anyone visiting Venice to stay there

We have just celebrated our wedding at the San Clemente Palace, it was the most magical experience from start to finish. The staff were excellent, attentive and thoughtful, in particular Elena Fontana took excellent care of us, nothing was too much trouble she was on the ball, considerate and ensured we were always given 5* service. Thank you so much to everyone at the hotel, we look forward to returning!

It is an act of courage to have opened despite the crisis. We went for an aperitif. Top notch cocktails and service. It is absolutely worth visiting despite the prices that are proportionate to the level.

Luxury hotel that is amazing. The building scares of how big it is, the service is correct and the big room and everything ok except one thing: There are Ants in a bed. And it gives a little something. We said it in recption and they told us that they would solve it but you already know how the ants are ... the next day I would have stayed in bed. In the end they took 80 from our bill. Detail The hotel JArdin is a delight. with contemporary works of art scattered throughout the Jardin. Joanna Vasconcelos and Tony Crag to remember.
The management system of the cale of the old auqnue room works well.
The breakfast very good.

Great luxury on the island of San Clemente about 1 km from the main island of Venice and therefore St. Mark's Square the food is unfortunately quite underground and does not fit the Kempinski standard

Beautiful hotel, impressive building, sumptuous furnishings, large and spacious rooms, great view of the wonderful park, very comfortable bed, great breakfast, very kind staff, excellent shuttle service to San Marco. I will definitely be back!

What an amazing place!
This hotel is on an island 5 minutes away in boat from Piazza San Marco, which is mayor attraction.
The hotel is beautiful and have free boat service every 30 minutes to and from the main island.

Visited on the occasion of a family wedding, the large island houses an ancient monastic complex which has been remodeled over the centuries, and a garden of unusual dimensions with ample space for activities and relaxation. Wandering through cloisters and corridors, you are faced with unexpected views. The banquet was hosted in a very private and peaceful courtyard. Level service.

My wife and I got married here in 2018. I am from New Orleans so I know good hospitality and a good hotel when I visit one. This place is stunning. The best part is that the hotel sits on its own island right across the bay (lagoon) to the mainland. The grounds has its on pool, gym, multiple courtyards and multiple lookout hills that allows you to see the entire bay and mainland. We even got married on top of one of these hills. The background view of our wedding was like no other.

It also has a restaurant on the grounds in addition to the hotel bar. You can also sit outside near the pier and have drinks or eat dinner and watch as the boats go in and out of the mainland. If you see all the pictures of Venice's main island, this hotel is right across from those pictures. Since the hotel sits on its own island which is a pretty decent size, you feel completely safe and secluded. The hotel has its own ferry boat service that runs every 10 mins or so which is excellent. From stepping on the boat to stepping off at the mainland, it takes probably less than 5 mins. So you can go and come back all day and throughout the evening.

The hotel itself is huge and beautiful. The chandeliers are all Italian glass. The staff were extremely accommodating and treated us like royalty. The hotel took care of everything. If you want to feel like you have your own palace then this is the place to be.

The fact that this hotel is located on a small island in front of Venice makes it really special. The structure is very large and everything is very nice, beautiful gardens. Friendly staff, certainly quiet and convenient to reach, having the structure a shuttle for transfers from the hotel to Venice with boarding at San Marco.

Heaven on earth , so far from the crowds , so close to Venice and San Marco. Free shuttles to San Marco every 30 minutes is amazing. Would definitely stay again. Service , rooms , ambience, setting ....and food , everything is above expectations. Thank you

I completely echo the review by the previous user below...

Here is some feedback for the GM of this hotel who seems to have no control over what is going on (or wrong) in this so called exclusive establishment.

1. Make sure to hire people who have a sense and understanding of what customer service actually is, especially in the hospitality sector. Do not hire staff who offer no help whatsoever with loading baggage onto the boat from San Marco.. people were struggling to load their prams and multiple bags and suitcases onto the boat themselves without the staff on the boat lifting as much as a finger.

2. Opening just one of several restaurants for dinner during summer is extremely short-sighted to put it mildly, especially when it is then overbooked and there aren't any tables left to accommodate all of the hotel guests. Also, make sure to live up to the standards a LHW hotel prides itself on (and charges accordingly for!) when it comes to food.. the food served has been an absolute disgrace (a sorry looking caesar salad for 27 garnished with 2.5 (old!) prawns falling apart on the plate by themselves and a stone-cold hamburger is an affront to say the least)..

3. Have some (solid and responsible) contingency plans in place for when things actually do break down. When you find out from waiters and duty managers alike that the excuse/explanation for the F&B chaos is that there was a severe technical issue in the kitchen as of 4pm (which will disrupt food service until at least the following day) but it was decided to serve food anyway not to have an empty terrace while admitting the obvious (health) risk involved in doing so, you seriously start to wonder..

4. Know and consult your own staff about what they really think in terms of how things are going and what should be improved. They are completely disinterested and lack motivation. Why? When you have multiple staff members - incl. guest relations and waiters shrugging their shoulders and admitting that what's going on is clearly not good enough and openly point to the management and their shortcomings, you wonder some more... and when you are finally told from waiting staff that the GM is currently on holiday until September (this post comes from mid July 2017) you can't help but feel that this place is in serious strife - at least over the course of the next few weeks - given the absence of any visible control or leadership in the running of this place.

The LHW group and Kempinski as a hotel chain should take a long and detailed look into what is going on here. You don't need to be Einstein to figure out that this place has some serious issues (other damning reviews aside). What is most telling, however, is that all this has been noticed in the space of 6 hours between checking in at 4pm and avoiding food poisoning at 10pm on the very first of a multiple day stay. What's in store for us next, I wonder? Happy holidays!

This is certainly not the hotel for honeymooners. ...

This is certainly not the hotel for honeymooners. We picked this hotel as the jewel in the crown of our honeymoon, to say we were disappointed is a vast understatement. We paid for a lagoon view room which on the website says that every room has uninterrupted views of the lagoon and Venice. Our first room however, looked straight onto the pool and had no views of any lagoon let alone Venice. When i asked the front desk reception, she said with a totally straight face that lagoon view rooms face the back of the property (the opposite side to the view of Venice). The room was also so small that we had to store our bags in the bath. I complained and we were moved to another room which had a pleasant view (out the back of the property - still no sign of Venice) with two single beds pushed together (I think they may misunderstand a honeymoon). The main feature of the island is that you have no other options, Kempinski use this well and the extortion ranges from no tea and coffee facilities in the rooms so you have to order from room service if you want a cuppa in your room, they charge Euro 9 for a cup of tea and then Euro 8 to deliver it to you room. Euro 17 for hot water and a tea bag. The fine dining restaurant was a disaster, the food was disgusting and one dish actually included a cube of watermelon on a plate. I have eaten at Osteria Francescana, White Rabbit and Brae, I know fine dining, what was served at the fine dining restaurant was as close to inedible as food gets, and at over Euro 150 for the pleasure you would hope the meal was decent - it was not. The waiter even put his hand up and shushed me while I was trying to ask a question about the food. The $30 pasta we had on the canal was far superior, the service better and the view just as good. Dont waste your time and money here rather go into Venice.
My husband and I are fortunate enough to travel overseas from Australia twice a year, skiing in Europe in Winter every year with our extended family and summer in Europe with friends. This is our 4th time in Venice and I can say with a great deal of confidence that there are far cheaper, far nicer and more accommodating 3 star hotels in Venice with a better view and far superior features than this overpriced, pompous, rude establishment. I am unsure how a hotel priding itself as being international has only 1 decent waiter who speaks English. I had to order lemon and hot water 3 separate times, from 3 separate waiters to get it right at breakfast. The breakfast arrangement was not explained to us to for 4 days we were using the meagre buffet only to overhear the waiter explaining to another table that eggs etc can be ordered from the menu, there was a menu!?

The fitness area and spa was over run with workmen everytime we went to use it with no notice or explaination offered to guests dispite the two women sitting at the spa reception. When I asked what was going on they both just shrugged. Nice.

This hotel has such great potential, but lacks an element of working to the needs of the customer which you would expect at $700 per night. If the captain of the shuttle boat asked clients how their day was, on the 15 minute trip to San Marco, instead of ignoring clients completely. If the couple on honeymoon were given the best room available instead of the worst, if you didn't have to get up from the pool and go and find a waiter to order a cocktail - then perhaps I would have returned but as it stands I will not only never return to this hotel, I will never return to a Kempinski hotel and I will make sure every travel affiliate I work with and anyone travelling to Venice knows what a horrendous experience we had. I do not have a single good thing to say about our stay - so incredibly disappointing.

Really lovely place with a very cool history. Perfect for a calm gateway from Venice. San Marco is a 10 minute taxi boat offered complimentary by the hotel every 30 minutes. Can feel a bit isolating if that s not what you re looking for. The spa treatments are very expensive however, a manicure is 60! The standard room is a little smaller than I expected but this was ok. Huge hotel with very unique hallways to the room.
