I've been to this ER several times pre covid, and there was always a huge wait time. So Today, when we had to wait over 5 hours, it wasn't a big surprise. I had to bring someone in due to a fall. I am their caregiver and advocate. I told the admiting person this, I got a little bracelet to let others know I was cleared. We went through triage and were sent back out to the waiting room, which was overflowing due to every other seat being blocked off. We sat outside for a bit, then we sat in the hallway for a bit. I finally asked someone if they would come find us if we sat in the hall. I was told "no. You have to be in the waiting room". Even though there was no room to safely distance for others. So we did the best we could and tucked ourselves away. Then a nurse came at me with attitude, mad that I was in the ER. She scolded me for be a "visitor". Told me "im sorry ma'am, there are NO VISITORS allowed!". I tried to explain that I wasn't a visitor. That I was there as this persons caregiver, and we were waiting results. She told me that was only good for triage, that I had to leave. I told her that no one had told me this before. We were just told to wait in the waiting room. She said she would have to clear it with triage. She came back, and again in a rude tone, told me to leave. She threatened to call security on me because i was trying to explain why I was there, and why my client needed me to be with her. I explained to the RN that I didnt appreciate her tone or how she came at me. I understand the rules, and why they are in place. But this nurse was flat out RUDE! And security was already there, acting like I had done something wrong! Its not my fault that the staff in this ER are not communicating, or being clear with its patients. Other patients in the waiting room agreed that this nurse came at me with attitude. It made an already stressful situation even worse! On a side note, as a caregiver, i have visited 2 other ERs in the area several times this year, and St. Johns was the worst, BY FAR!. Other ERs won't even let you in the doors before being screened. St. Johns had people just walking in & out @ their leisure. And there was absolutely no one cleaning chairs in between people getting up and sitting down. Some of the other patients in the waiting room brought that up to an RN who couldn't give a reason for that. So I couldnt stay to advocate, but its okay for them to let people sit in potentially contaminated chairs. If you have the option, id say find a different ER.
