A great cafe tucked away down the lane with a great local vibe! They have fantastic coffee, roasted on site, great food on a rotating menu with brilliant service!
Also worth a visit attached and nextdoor is the temporary Starward distillery tasting bar which looks really good! Can't wait to go back!
We were lucky that we were able to get a table. Yes, the coffee was excellent the breakfast was delicious. I think if you live in Melbourne one just goes through the menu until it changes. Service is quick and efficient. I can highly recommend having a breakfast at St Ali's.
Hands down one of the best coffee in Melbourne. They open every day of the year as well, which comes in handy on public holidays/long weekends.

I think it is bit over priced. The daddy burger is just ham, bacon, egg, sauce but $18.50.. but salmon dish is good. But it was not special for me
It's always a must go place for me whenever I am in Melbourne. Great food and exceptional coffee. Wait is never too long here sometimes you can get a table staightaway. Staff are friendly and the vibe of the place is great.

Wow seeing some of the bad reviews makes you wonder about people s expectations... amazing coffee in a pretty awesome warehouse fit out. Can get super busy so I highly recommend not going at peak times because it gets pretty loud. I ve always had good experiences here and the one time I had a slightly less perfect coffee the staff happily remade it for me no fuss

I wasn t satisfied with my order, and the staff have dealt with the situation poorly, she was yelling at me as if I know nothing. She was about to make it a big deal if I didn t leave the place. I don t know what s wrong with saying my order doesn t taste like the usual, in a very quiet manner. If you want your business to run smoothly change your staff, especially the one in the airport branch .
I don t recommend it, if I can give it less than one star, I would.

The vibe and location is great however the music was too loud, the food was overly priced ($6 for a small soy mocha with 20% public holiday surcharge on top - the most expensive coffee I have paid for) and when the man who seated us was asked if they do any bday specials I was given quite an abrupt response with no effort to even offer something else for the bday girl (which I was happy to pay for). We also asked for the music to be reduced slightly which it was for a few minutes only to be turned up even louder. We had to leave early as we were tired of shouting over the music to have a conversation. Total bill cost me $126 for 3 meals and 4 non alcoholic drinks. Daylight robbery in my opinion for being open on a public holiday. We had to flag down staff to take our orders as they hardly made eye contact. Visit the place if you have a fat wallet and want loud music.

Once you've had their coffee and food it's easy to figure out why this is one of the best cafes in Melbourne/the world. Despite their continued popularity they haven't rested on their laurels and continue to push the boundaries with their food menu but also their coffee selection (case in point: the Barrista Breakfast). You will of course wait for a table at peak times.
Great coffee! Awesome big breakfast "the full spanglish" eggs, beans, blood sausage, istra bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes & sourdough - I wasn't hungry ... But I found my appetite
St Ali was recommended by a friend. I have to say it is highly overrated. Service was extremely slow and drinks average. We weren't inspired by the food menu. There are much better places in South Melbourne - try 'Gas' or 'Chez Dre'.

The phrase "you go to St. Ali because it's trendy and not for the coffee" that was known for a while amongst coffee aficionados is starting to get even more real now. Service largely depends upon the moment you get in, and coffee is doubtlessly not what it used to be anymore, with the consequence of new avenues getting explored by the coffee enthusiast in Melbourne. This is all the more disappointing as quality has been steadily dropping accompanied by increasing prices at a brisk pace. Just recently their Orthodox has been "adjusted" from 13 dollars each 250 grams to 20 dollars. Not a smart commercial move for a coffee that is de facto inferior to what it was years ago, but which sadly renders the idea of where the trend is going.

Last Sunday I was in "St Ali Coffee Roasters" and really enjoyed my tasty coffee. The ambience was great, staff members were good in behaviour instead of one. That's why I'm giving four stars and I'm deducting one star for the one's behaviour otherwise, all services were amazing...
After really getting into the coffee culture Melbourne has to offer. I was recommended to try the orthodox bean and I'm hooked! Super tasty!
TBH a bit overrated . Service wise , like some have mentioned , despite the staff on floor was not friendly management even worst , got overcharged and contacted Via Facebook and instagram , no responses for two week . went on a public holiday it was busy service was good , Foodwise , food presentation was great but $60 for kransky and pancake with two cups of coffee . I was not impressed

We were served cold coffees, and the service was terrible very rude people... they try to move you in between tables while drinking your coffee.
Can we please bring back the chicken schnitzel. Every time I come back here I pray its back on the menu but its not. I cant wait any longer its been almost a year I think.

My partner and I love this place! We get looked after well, and get seated promptly when we walk in. We love the service, and don't look at the price of the food as we know it is worth it. We also get our coffee beans from here, cause we love the variety they bring out. I even come in to get coffee if I'm in the area just cause I love it that much.

While our initial impression was 'wow, wait staff are rude!', the owner's response to our tweet was awesome and the service was great after that. The coffee is awesome and I'd go back just for that. On top of that, the food was delicious. We all had the eggs plus sides which ended up being really affordable and delicious.
I really appreciated that soy milk and gluten-free toast were both available at no extra cost!

Coffee and food was ok, been here many times. What I noticed could be made better every time was the baristas should interact more with their customers. I know you guys work long hours but at least a smile won't hurt. Look at the awesome people at Seven Seeds family (seven seeds, bbb ...) or at Monk. Their aura just hype, they made their customers welcome.
