Terrible attitude!! Ridiculous surcharge on Retail...

Terrible attitude!! Ridiculous surcharge on Retail!!! We visited on a public holiday which we know we are gonna pay surcharge. We bought 5 bags of coffee beans and powder after lunch. At the counter they asked us if we want to pay separately, we are fine paying together. At the end we saw on the bill that the surcharge is $35.46, they put 18% on top of the retail (coffee beans) at the same time !! We asked how come you charge retail 18% more which is unfair, they say they asked us if we wanted to pay separately, if we said yes, they wouldn t charge us 18% on retail. But we didn t get informed of this!! They are claiming it s our fault now because we refused to pay separately. It s not about the money, this cafe is ridiculously dodgy. We will never return and will never recommend to anyone. I will go consumer affair to pursue this matter further.

Hadn t been to St Ali s in years but made it there again and it s still absolutely delicious. Service was fantastic, food came really quickly and it was worth the price with nothing being just standard.

Coffee is great, being a coffee aficionado myself, you can feel the passion from their baristas while talking to them.

Unfortunately they get two stars for charging a merchant fee for paying with your credit card. Australia is moving so quickly to digital and mobile wallets, who the hell carries that much cash with them anymore?

It's upbeat, fresh , inviting , if your into that kinda loud music hipster coffee drinking vibe then this is the place for you . For my liking, it's a tad loud but I appreciate the atmosphere for what it is and the people here know their coffee . As a barista I can tell U they know their coffee and they know their milk. They have high standards here , make sure you stop by for a good coffee

Recommend going here on a weekday to enjoy the classic inner-Melbourne cafe vibe. One of the best places in South Melbourne for single origin batch brew coffee. Can get very busy during the weekend brunch hours due to it's popularity.

$6 for half an avocado is probably the most expensive I ve seen in Melbourne.

Best coffee in Melbourne and a good selection of food too. Staff are great and the service is always friendly and efficient. They are open 365 days per year which is another benefit when you need a coffee hit on the public holidays. Strongly recommend

Tucked in Yarra Pl in South Melbourne, in a silent lane, courtesy Covid-19, the place is not just a cafe, a decent place to shop things as well. The food options are quite extensive to choose from. The coffee, for what they are known for, is close to perfect. The staffs are super friendly and helpful.

Thank you for bringing smile and happiness in these tough times.

I think any place that you have to wait inline should be worth the wait. I haven't been to St Ali for a couple of years but won't be going back after today's experience. Extremely poor service and food well below average. Even the coffee that the place has established its reputation on was just ok. With all of the amazing food and coffee places Melbourne has on offer give this place a miss. It has dropped the ball and really not worth giving it a go.

The reviews for St Ali were great so gave it a go yesterday. Coffee was a little above average, pass the taste test but not amazing. Food was good though however when I was eating, being seated right next to the kitchen door, staff from the Kitchen had terrible body odour so ruined the meal for me. A word of advice, maybe close the Kitchen door and restrict kitchen staff to the kitchen.

So great! We went here twice while in Melbourne and the coffee was spot on, with two varieties of batch brew every day and some yummy flat whites. We shared the fruit salad which was a decent sized portion with delicious fruit and some sourdough toast with homemade peanut butter and marmalade. It was simple but very tasty and the price was average for the city at around $35 for 2 coffees and the brekkie.

After intensively visiting the coffee roasters in Melbourne, I can almost say this is my top one coffee roaster in Melbourne! Liked the communion table here... you get a chance to meet new people! Nice place to have a solo time or shared time with friends!

Great food, great ambience, and friendly staff - my friends love the coffee here, and I've loved The Daddy. FYI, you can top-up $3 to change the default fried egg to scrambled, which in my opinion is worth it.

We shared a St Ali roast chicken lunch box with our friends for Easter. Half the box was swapped for wine at safe social distances & we then retreated to our respective abodes to heat food & set up devices for a virtual, videoed lunch. The food was fantastic!! Thoughtfully packaged with clear instructions, the extras such as the lemon vinaigrette & hazelnuts for the broccoli, and the spice for the corn were delicious. Highly recommend. Well done St Ali team!!

Mahyo's vision is to save the world. Mahyo makes huge difference to world. Reading these reviews it is clear that bad custoner service exists here. No matter what quality coffee bean is, if you drop someone's jacket you must pick it up.

Great coffee, nice food. I had the Mexican Cousin which was delicious. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Would be awesome if there was more light inside the cafe depths. I understand the style, but there are some dark corners which might make it hard to enjoy your meal.

Yes, decent coffee at the airport, but they charge MORE to dine-in ? For a coffee? They re encouraging you to save money by taking a landfill cup instead? What a bizarro waste reduction strategy. I could taste the irony in every mouthful of the small $6.50 latte.

Hipster coffee place with an unassuming store front. I love this place. Love the Mexican Cousin dish, their sweet Costa Rican genesis sweet coffee and last but not least, the friendly staff and bustling atmosphere. The place can be crowded on the weekends though so expect a little bit of a wait when you get there but trust me it's worth it!

This was our second time here and we feel that they still considered as one of the best place to have your brunch in Melbourne. We order the classic my Mexican cousins, savoury porridge e and the smoked salmon and it was beautiful. Coffee is not a question as well in St. Ali, it was perfect. The only downside is they can be so crowded with a longer waiting time, especially in the weekend. But all in all good food, good coffee and nice ambiance!

We heard about St Ali from a local and he was spot on. I went to Pellegrini's in the morning as another local had suggested them and being Italian I wanted to believe that the best coffee in Melbourne was at an Italian bar. I admit that St Ali won hands down. I tried straight espresso's at both places. At St Ali's they served me the single bean and their espresso blend so I could taste the differences. Both were excellent.

As we had breakfast there I got to try the food as well and the scrambled eggs were delicious. If you're looking for a cool place to get a great coffee and good food, St Ali is the place.

We arrived a bit after nine a.m. on Christmas day morning. The place was already buzzing with diners. They took my American request for "over medium" eggs with a quizzical stare. With a bit of explaining I got my point across and they delivered. I ordered breakfast tea and my Australian companion told me it arrived in the wrong vessel. It arrived in a mug versus a cup. I laughed and figured they were trying to please this American. We drink everything in a mug.
I am very pleased.
