Coffee is good, but that's about it. Staff like others have said are a lil snooty and impatient. If you're not a regular don't expect to be treated normal. Waitress almost spilt my drink as she snatched the menus away, not sure what the rush was- being off-peak hours. Food is overpriced for what you get. Most expensive banh mi you'll see (~$21). Asked for a lettuce wrapped burger, but got a bun. Moreover, everything was so salty. So yeah, just go for the coffee.. or not.. you might be better off trying some other cafe for your time and money. A bit pretentious here.

Delicious food. Amazing coffee. They will prepare the same coffee multiple ways for you to be able to taste the differences in how each process affects what you're drinking. Trust your servers when you are torn between two entrees.

Great place in a little Ally for breakfast. The pancakes where amazing fluffy, tasty and you got brownies as well. They were quite busy on a Monday morning but we didn't had to wait at all. Loved the interior design as well and the coffee was great!

I dropped in today and had a very nice time at the bar tasting beer and coffee. Turned sour real quick when I was seated. I ordered a flat white that took too long and got attitude from one particular wait staff. In a rude tone, he raised his voice at me to move aside while I was waiting in line.

He later tried to squeeze past me while I was seated. In doing so, he dropped my jacket which was hanging on the chair onto the floor. He then just walked away. It was clear he knew what he did but did not do anything about it.

This was incredibly unfortunate as I was really looking forward to this visit.

Nice breakfast options. Allow sufficient time to get a table. Staff are friendly and helpful. Lovely interiors and great place to catch up with friends. Filter coffee is pretty amazing. The place has a great vibe and it s one of those hidden gems.

Average food, much better places in the same area without the hype and inflated prices that deserve your business. Surcharge on a non public holiday or Sunday is laughable, especially with the lacklustre service provided. 5 stars for opportunistic business venture though, hats off to the masterminds and their ability to have built the hype and traffic around this place.

The coffee was great & the atmosphere was really buzzing mid week @ 7.30am. I had avocado scotch eggs that were good but not quite 'there'. My friend ordered the fruit bread which came as a miniature loaf & looked so cute & tasted great. Really want to go again.

Of later very ordinary and abrupt service. Don t think worth the money or attitude.

My wife and I use to thoroughly enjoy this place however the menu has changed significantly however this isn t the reason for the poor review - the terrible customer service is. Rude, inattentive wait staff who make it obvious they aren t wanting to be there.

Serving size also decreased while price has increased. Had pancakes which could only eat a small portion of as they were well undercooked (thankfully the item was refunded). $6.50 for a tiny amount of avocado (less than a quarter). My wife did enjoy her latte.

We won t be returning

Coffee was good, and we were particularly excited to try this place for a little guide book we are writing, however unfortunately the service was really disappointing. Without wishing to be rude or going into too much detail, one waiter's (front of house) ego and really poor attitude was particularly disappointing and unnecessary.

St Ali is a hidden gem one street off the main stretch in South Melbourne. Taking its cues from the cafe culture of hipster Brunswick and Fitzroy, St Ali gives a refined approach to this aesthetic.

The staff are knowledgeable and helpful, and an amazing array of fine coffee, delivered by some of the best baristas in Melbourne, ensures your caffeine fix is incredibly enjoyable.

The food is a glorious mix of standard cafe fare, with some next level dishes with native Australian ingredients, even if the inspiration for the dish has come from as far abroad as Mexico or Spain.

Nice cafe tucked away in a small street. The menu is quite varied and has some interesting dishes. The set up is really nice and the staff friendly. The food is good but probably on the more expensive side for what it is. My burger and fries was $21 + 10% surcharge for weekends. They have a surcharge of 18% for public holidays. The burger was good but very saucy and with lots of mayo. It's also a little small if you compare the burgers at The Gem which costs the same but is way larger and has an extra patty. The fries were very generous but super salty. I couldn't finish them as they were too salty. The music is also a bit loud for the morning so not terribly relaxing.

Great coffee. Disengaged staff. Could see some amazing european sausage dishes coming out as I was walking in, but when asking about this I was told it was a 'staff thing' and could not be ordered. Wow...if staff are served that they should be more engaged. It is great to see staff are well looked after, however it is a shame customers are not.

Always, always, always great service, great coffee and delicious food. Relaxed atmosphere with some truly friendly staff. The owner is a great guy who works damned hard to make sure every guest is absolutely happy.

Open all day Christmas Day and New Year's Day, this year they're even throwing a New Years Day party, so get down and check them out!

Coffee was great. Went in to pick up a preordered coffee, the overly attentive staff (there were 5 or 6 of them and 2 of us) all wanted to help at the same time which was off putting. Especially accompanied by the hipster judgement eyes we were getting from all of them. Supposed to be a nice place though, so will try again another time

By far my favourite coffee spot in Melbourne. BUT... I was very disappointed with the service today; a disinterested, impatient and very rude blonde girl "taking payments" has really put me off coming back.
Also, the state of the toilets was pretty disgraceful.
I was embarrassed to bring my out of towner friend to this establishment to show off Melbourne's cafe culture.
Otherwise, a deliciously inventive menu and 10/10 coffee as usual.

Unfortunately this seems to be some of the worst chai tea available in Melbourne. It looks good for Instagram, but has absolutely no punch. It's a shame because most speciality coffee houses in Melbourne offer extremely good chai options...

While the service and food were good it really doesn't provide reasonable value for money.

Amazing coffe, and the best breakfast I've had in a long time. We had breakfast here on Sunday morning. It was not very busy, service was speedy and very nice. I had the Koo Koo Ka Choo and DH had Burd Eggs with toast and Polish sausage. Both were excellent. Coffee was perfect. So good we both got 2nd cups take away! It was also kinda cool to be walking down a small side street, there's no real sign, and yet the music and the vibe were so welcoming, it just made you want to stop in and stay awhile.
