We have Mr Brunel to thank for building this ship in the old " build it simple but build it like a battleship " victoria style and one Mr Ewan Corlett for rescuing said ship from the Falkland Islands.
Speaking of battleships , some of the S.S Great Britain's iron plates were used to patch up H.M.S Exeters battle damage caused during the Battle of the River Plate.

Your admission fee not only gives you access to the ship but also the Dry Dock, Dock yard museum, Brunel Institute and visitor centre.
Small car park outside the attraction but with Limited Disabled parking slots.

Generally speaking access to the Ship and surrounding areas is very good.
Good catering facilities offering reasonable prices with most tastes catered for.
Wheelchair users can access the Ship and the dry dock by means of a lift.
Do take advantage of the free audio tour which really brings the whole attraction to life.
Very good family day out in my opinion and well worth more than one visit.

Great fun and informative place for all the family. Amazing to see the innovative aspects Brunel introduced to the design. Excellent range of interactive and media styles to tell the story of the ship from idea, construction to bringing home in 1970's.

Really interesting for adults and families and the new exhibits are excellent. If there's someone pretending to be Mr Brunel, they are likely to be superb so go and chat to them out watch their little show.

We visited Brunel's SS Great Britain with our toddler today and had a simply fabulous time!

We were both surprised at the wealth of different elements this attraction had to offer in addition to the ship itself and it kept our little boy thoroughly entertained. All in all we were there almost 3 hours which is pretty good going when you have a little one in tow.

There is so much to see and learn here and they have gone to great lengths to ensure their Covid processes are clear so that you know exactly what to do and where you should be going. In addition, every member of staff we encountered went out of their way to be helpful and made the whole experience such a pleasant one. A wonderful day out to remember!

Great museum, very friendly and helpful staff and really engaging and informative displays. The tickets aren't cheap, but you can return anytime with 12 months. Covid-19 measures are sensible and don't negatively impact the visit. A great 2-3 hour visit with or without kids.

Best tourist attraction in Bristol! Fascinating ship which has been restored. Really interesting inside. You can go into virtually all of the ship, as well as underneath it. Also lots of side museums. Tickets valid for a year. Cafe there as well.

Great ship. The first metal hull. Incredible history, very well presented, extremely helpful staff. Now at its final resting place in the original dock that she was built in. Not to be missed if in the area.

So much to see, information abundant and knowledgeable staff on hand to add extra detail and colour. Lovely to see this beautiful ship in her 50th year since her return to Bristol. Convenient parking and great refreshment facilities. We learned so much. Well worth a visit.
