We have been waiting for this moment. The reopening!!!! Beautiful new location, EXCELLENT food, drinks, atmosphere and staff. The owners Erika and Joe are awesome people with a passion. We love this place and so happy to have it back in our community. If you want the best of the best, dine here, you will not be disappointed. The calamari is the best I have ever had anywhere. Joe, Carter and the staff at Square One have provided good food and great service over the years. But lately they stepped up their game. Our recent visit was outstanding in every way.The fish was delicious and cooked perfectly. The service was impeccable. Simply extraordinary. Their attention to detail wasn t limited to culinary delights. The concern for hygiene and preventive measures to protect their customers and staff from infectious disease was top notch. The decor and atmosphere is fitting to the menu. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Stingy on the wine, fish very bony, dessert had a cannoli stuck in the middle of terimasu. Should have been just pure. Cannoli is not my favorite. Kale Greek salad was delicious.
Best restaurant in town. Service was great and so was the food. Blackened fish and sesame tuna perfect. Sat at the bar and the bartender was knowledgeable and great. The owner was working in the kitchen and his wife was working the dining room. My new go to place.

Food was great. Nice atmosphere. They somehow were unsure that when we picked our dinner items that they should put in the order, but it all worked out. Nice variety of menu items. A bit loud, so it is hard to hear those you are eating with if seated inside.

My wife and I went here last night for my birthday dinner. We are from New Orleans and have yet to find a good seafood restaurant in Athens. This place is definitely not it. The entre's are like a weird sushi display on crushed ice you would see in the seafood department of kroger, and I didn't know you could sell oysters smaller than a quarter. I'm sure people who don't know seafood probably like what they sell but it's just not what we were looking for. We had about a 90 dollar tab and still stopped at Burger King on the way home so we wouldn't go to bed hungry. The environment was really nice, our seating area was really cool and the staff was super friendly and nice. I just will not go back because the food is really weird. I would rather go to outback or some where you get a meal that is cooked and fills you up.
So happy I drove by and noticed this was open. Went there years ago when it was in downtown Athens. It was packed so we ate at the bar. Oysters were fabulous as always. Seafood tower was good but a few items I would replace (sardines). I will be back.
My wife and I ate here in December and it was fabulous. We live in Boston by the commercial fish pier and their food here is as good as or better than the fresh catch that we get in the Best restaurants in Boston. We are back visiting Athens this week and are going back tonight with another couple. Can t wait!
Update: the owner did reach out to me after my experience to apologize, and I do think it s important to take that into account. I think it s also fair to say that the hostess and bartenders were also very polite and professional, and one negative person isn t necessarily reflective of the whole restaurant. I plan on going back soon to give Square One another shot.
I honestly wanted to like this place, but I had an impressively disappointing experience here. I came here for happy hour and planned on just drinking cocktails, but we had too many to sit comfortably at the bar, so we moved to a table per the hostess' suggestion (this was before dinner rush so there were a lot of available tables). Our server kept trying to push us to order starters and entrees, which was a little annoying. I ordered a drink which was fine, and a charcuterie platter, which was exceptionally sub-par. I asked my server what exactly was included in the charcuterie, and she hit me with a snarky "it's meat and cheese," as if I didn't know what charcuterie was. I ordered it anyway, and it was a few meager pieces of cheese cut off of a block, and what looked and tasted like bologna from the cold cuts section of a grocery store. I understand that our server probably thought that she was going to get a big tip from a big group that was going to order a ton of food, but we made it clear from the beginning that we were just there for drinks, and we were treated poorly once she realized that we wouldn't be a big spending table. I understand that there are kinks to be worked out when a restaurant first opens, but it's always disheartening to be treated badly right off the bat. I sincerely hope that they work through these problems, and work on customer service so that others don't have such a disappointing experience. I have lived in Athens for many years now, and this is the first truly negative dining experience I've encountered.
We have been to Square One twice now and love it!! What a gem for Athens GA!! Freshest seafood cooked in a variety of delicious entrees. Great food, friendly staff, quality wines, and a warm atmosphere. Can't wait to go back very soon. You must try this place!!
Seriously great seafood here. Fresh and tasty chef preparations. It may be a bit noisy for a romantic date but this is great for a bunch of friends or dinner for one at the bar.
The inside is very nice setting . They told us a 20 min wait there was nobody in front of us just that the tables were full. We had a party of three a table for six opened up we waited thinking they had a reservation for it or incase a bigger party come in keep in mind we have already waited 35 minutes nobody was coming in so we asked to have the table and he was standing outside smoking the waitress had to go outside to ask if we could have the table he told us no for the fact that it is a six people table and only three of us but, there is nobody coming in he was angry we asked. There menu is very very limited they have no sides on the menu when you order the crab legs they only bring you one cluster for your whole meal its $11.00. The coke is what they call a craft coke it does not taste like coca-cola . The two waitress we had were very nice.
Incredible experience at the bar, had the fried calamari as an appetizer it was awesome! The Apalachicola oysters were excellent. My friend had on the best steaks he had ever had before for dinner and I had and amazing blackened mahi dish with shrimp and scallops sauteed in a whiskey cream sauce.
Delicious fish! The fish dip was delicious! I had red fish with scallops and shrimp in a whiskey sauce...absolutely delicious. Al, the bartender was very personable!
We are thrilled to have this restaurant back! The bacon wrapped sea scallops were excellent and we enjoyed the seafood tower. The cheese plate was yummy (see picture).Lots of great food for the price! Our 4 year old had the pan seared chicken and ate most all of it! Our server, Robert, was attentive, helpful, and kept the food and drinks flowing! Thanks for a great night!
Never disappointed by the quality & taste of the food here, and the great service. Great food, great portions, great price, great atmosphere, and love the wine pairings on the menu. Dishes that stand out that I've had are the whole grouper, sesame tuna, and lobster pasta. The tuna tartare and conch fritter apps are delicious, too. We've gone to Square 1 often, and not had a bad experience yet. Everyone has an off-day or night at work, regardless of the industry, inclusive of restaurants. If you've only been once, and it wasn't stellar, give it another shot before calling it.
OUTSTANDING! After having the blackened salmon and the catfish etoufee - we ordered second entrees to take home! Very well done Square One and your server, Mariss(?), was Awesome too! Lovely place with a casual neighborhood feel. Food is always fresh and the staff go above and beyond to ensure you have everything you could need. We ll be back regularly!
The food and atmosphere (inside the restaurant) are both solid. There are not a ton of options on the menu, but they ve done an excellent job of catering to a wide range of appetites with the items they do have. My only gripe is that the parking is both scare and dangerous (you have a blind reversal back onto Prince when leaving). Food and service are five-star worthy, but the location/parking woes drop the overall experience to a still-respectable four star rating.
So happy to have Square One back! Everything was great. The oysters were so amazing we had them as an appetizer, ate our main course, which was excellent( tuna and mahi mahi), and had more oysters. Thanks Robert for great service!
First timers, today. Convenient to our home and came in early. My wife had the fried shrimp with potatoe wedges and cole slaw. The shrimp looked more like prawns and were delicious. The slaw was savoury, the roasted potatoes were great. I had a dozen raw Appalachicola oysters and a wedge salad with bacon, grape tomatoes with blue cheese dressing. Wow, what a meal. A couple of cold Bud Lights, for me and a wine coctail for my wife, and we were SET. Thanks, guys! We'll be back!
Great prices, excellent service, and the best trout I've had in a long time. Chefs obviously know what they are doing. Atmosphere OK--floors quite slippery, especially for someone with a slight mobility problem. And yes, parking is also an issue. We were there at a time when there was no valet parking, a real inconvenience. But overall, we go there (third time) for the food, and it was great!
Had a marvelous brunch this past Sunday. Highly recommend the trout with eggs and summer squash fries - delicious. Best mimosa's in town. Great staff and delightful patrons.
The atmosphere and food are great, but I wouldn't make a reservation here on a busy day. I made a reservation for 9 pm with my girlfriend on Valentine's day (well past prime time dinner hours) and we were told upon arrival that they were way behind we wouldn't be able to get seated for another hour at least. We had eaten here before and really liked it, and they have a great romantic dinner-for-2 special on Tuesdays, but we were disappointed with their lack of reservation-keeping. What's the point of making a reservation, you know? I ended up having to take my girlfriend to Dirty Birds (real romantic I know) because of course every other romantic spot was full up with reservations
This is the place for seafood! Start with apts. they are to die for. Then the main dishes range from Pork Chops to Fish n Chips to Tuna or Salmon or what ever the Mkt Fresh catch of the Day, yummy. Gotta save room for desert. Key Lime Pie or special ending desert.
Amazing atmosphere. The decor was exquisite! So pretty! The food was outstanding. From the appetizers to the main entrees to the drinks! Compliments to the chef(s). Our waiter, Zack was awesome, met our every need! We appreciate it& enjoyed it! And the dessert....
Where do I start?! This is by far the easiest 5 star review I've ever given. My husband and I came for the Two for Twosdays special, and everything was incredible... shrimp boil, surf and turf dinner, and a delectable brownie!!! We will definitely be back!

We stopped in for Brunch and it was amazing. Portion sizes are definitely adequate and their new location on Prince Ave. is a nice cozy spot to have brunch with your family. Can't wait to go back and try more brunch items.

This was an absolutely amazing eating experience. Excellent service excellent food the swordfish was cooked to perfection. Shout out to Daniel Thompson for making our date night that much better.
