Great selection of cardio equipment and strength training.
The service at this gym is terrible. I have been trying to get in contact with them to get rid of my membership due to severe health issues. The staff is rude and have not be helpful at all to resolving this issue. After holding for 45 minutes they tell me I have to call member services because she can not help me.
In general, the facility is not impressive at all and the front desk person is not helpful. I have been a member of NYSC since 2008 and this location has by far ruined my entire experience. So I suggest that you do not go there and chose Equinox. They have much better quality staff, membership help and facility.
I have never dealt with a more dishonest, disingenuous company in my entire life. Sign up with any other gym in NYC. I'm sure there are plenty that have convenient locations, are cheaper, and have much better customer service.
This gym is great if you're a guy and you don't care about cleanliness.
Worse staff...General Manager needs to do a better job hiring better people. The chubbier guy in the front around 6am has the worst attitude...if it wasnt for the convenience of the gym located near my office...i would never set a foot in....hire better...
Brand new gym! Perfect location and has everything you need!
Dirty clubs. Horrible customer service. I'd go for something cheaper (that's probably just as clean) or someplace more expensive where you won't get a foot fungus using the shower - you get what you pay for.
Nice gym, but multiple rooms on multiple floors, not the best.. but it is Central Manhattan !
Most are great as long as people not on their phones and just do their workouts and keep it moving
i wish there was a way to give 0 stars to franchise because this is the winner right here. i have complained numerous times in the past about NO hot water in the shower. it has been atleast 3 months now but the club decided it is not bother fixing it. except 1 stall (number 7) in the men's room, all of them have little to hot water, so hope you enjoy cold showers. there is also no mat in the shower room, it is quite gross, please put something there. on top of this mess, NYSC policy is that if 91st st club charged you fraudulently, no other NySC will take any responsibility. it was truly horrible to see how much they did not care to address customer issue. you guys are part of the same franchise chain, but are somehow refusing to accept ownership when fraud is concerned, what a shock. please get your act together and clean up the mess, and friendly reminder to put customer first. If it was not literally right across my work, i would never go here and would DEF NOT recommend this place to anyone. BE AWARE of NYSC horrible policies.
Showers work, most equipment works (treadmills struggle), stage friendly hours work for folks working gym routine into the business day...
Really needs a makeover this is what most of the mats look like ripped and dirty
Cleaner and better kept than other NYSC locations. Staff is friendly.
my experience is horrible. I have been a member on and off for 5 years. In order to cancel a contract that has expired and is now on a month to month basis, you have to give them 30 days notice? Excuse me but I did not know that I was renting an apartment. I figured since the contract ended i could discontinue at my leisure but was informed i have to pay a fee if i don't give them exactly 30 days notice. what a rip off. Never again. I am sooooo disappointed with NYSC..
Least crowded NYSC that I have visited. Machines work well, classes are fun, and TV entertainment system works amazingly. I am happy with this location and go out of my way to avoid the midtown crush. Not super personal, but does its job. Happy to be a member
There are lots of treadmills on 2 floors, unfortunately only 15-20% of them work on any given day. I was running on a treadmill that stopped working abruptly mid-run, and I nearly fell off of it. When it's summertime, the gym gets so hot and humid, it feels like a swamp. I wouldn't go here if it wasn't near my job.
Be careful and keep track on your credit card. Management is a Fraud. Their policies are ridiculous.
The gym is at a prime location at times sq and still they close way early as compared to other NYSC's in New York City and their charges are higher than other NYSC's...Does not make any sense
Avoid this Gym!!!!!!!
I am a member of this GYM more than 10 years, nice place, good people, convenient location.
Bit crowded at times, but they've got everything you could need in a gym.
Avoid here! Terrible and fraud business!
Both the sales agent and general manager are disingenuously. They are just lie to customers and cheat money!
This store is fraud toward me. At first, a sales agent swiped my credit card for $119.98, and then he asked me to a sign one year contract. The agent even did not explain to me that this is a one year contract! I refuse to sign the contract and ask for a cancelation.
The general manager went there and told to me that I would get my refund in three business days. (That day is June 1 2014). But today is July 1 2014 already! I still did not get my refund yet. How fraud and inhumane to treat their customers! I have gone to the gym for two times and no one take the responsibility. They just give me a lot of nonsense excuses.
I have always been a member of NYSC because of the convenient locations! I love this spot best of all becuase its near my office. The staff is great and the equipment is wonderful! I always get a great workout here!
Convenient. Friendly staff.perfext if you know what your doing and just need a place to work out.
The worst place I ever see. NOT at all professional. They just take your money without explain to you well. Be careful everyone
The physical therapist here takes my Insurance and the other PHYSICAL therapist at Lenox Hill hurt me yesterday and I didn't want to go back there
MORONS!
For the THIRD TIME, I called ahead and asked if the location had a steam room and if it was working, (because at NYSC just because a piece of equipment is there dose not mean its working). And for the THIRD TIME I get there and THERE IS NOT EVEN A STEAM ROOM IN THE GYM!!
This is infuriating!!!! I took my lunch time to go to 1121 6th Ave just to steam, not to work out. What a waste of my f'ing time, and makes me wonder if human beings are even salvageable!
Management:
Take an hour out of your day, hold a seminar on the difference between a steam room and a sauna. You would only need two poster boards with a picture of each and describing what they do and how they differ! Give periodic pop quizzes so they can remember to consistently study, give them flash cards so they can go over them on the train,,, whatever it takes.
Sincerely,,, Time I Will Never Get Back!
Confusing location but once u get familiar it's good. Very big weight area. No steam room and probably the nysc with worst hours keeps this from being 5 stars
BEWARE OF FRAUD- NEVER EVER SIGN UP FOR THIS GYM! In short- they have stolen $712 from me back in Feb & Mar, and even though they admitted to it being an error (it's really fraud as the individual involved was fired for numerious related complaints) they have yet to refund my money 6 months later. Now for the detailed version...
I signed up for this gym in Feb 2014. In Apr I saw a charge on my credit card for $356 for March Personal Training, in addition to my monthly dues, and also noticed another $356 charge for Feb PT which I had missed. I never attended PT and called Corporate. They told me they had a signed contract under my name for PT. They sent me a copy of the contract & it was clear that the signature was not mine.
I went to the club and before I even spoke the ex-trainer Mike (now fired for fraud) he knew what this was about and informed me my refund was being processed already as it was a mistake. The fact he knew what was happening, but never informed me, made me not believe him so I went to the GM, Lakisha. She looked into it and told me they "accidentally" logged a PT session, with another person, under my name and they admitted to the mistake (Don't believe her but if it's true it's a huge flaw in their system- no check & balance). She told me she would submit a new refund (Mike was lying), which she even confirmed to me via telephone after she filed it.
I wait approx 4 wks, which is how long I was told the refund would take, and I call corp. and they tell me NO REFUND WAS PROCESSED (Lakisha was lying) and that I was going to be CHARGED AGAIN for Apr PT. I go back to the gym & Lakisha wouldn't see me. I called corp. and began the refund process AGAIN. This time I file a dispute with my Credit Card company as I have been out of $712 for about 4 months. The CC company responds back a cpl weeks later that NYSC sent them a contract w/ "my signature" (NYSC Sent Fraudulent Docs). I call Corp and they inform me that because I started a dispute they cannot issue refund, and that I would need to stop the dispute (makes 0 sense). I obliged, lifted the dispute and let them refund me directly.
I call back a few wks later (Now June) & they tell me refund was rejected because they have a signed contract! I tell them to contact the gym directly and speak to Lakisha, who confirmed its not my signature. Corp tells me the refund dept doesn't do that (what?). Call Center agent files a new dispute and finally the gym called me. A new head trainer informed me Mike was fired due to fraudulent practices. They took my side of the story but I have yet to receive my refund. They STOLE my money for now 6 months and I am STILL WAITING ON A REFUND.
There is a such thing as time value of money and it is losing value every day.
This gym is just run by bad people. I suggest you take your business to one of the other ubiquitous gyms in the city. As I work right upstairs in this building I will be sure to continue to notify each and every co-worker, existing and new, to take their business elsewhere. Just look at all the terrible reviews of this place, I unfortunately chose the convenience of location over their unlawful practices.
I have reported this specific location to the Better Business Bureau and will take further action as I see fit. I will terminate my contract the first chance I get and bring my money elsewhere.
TL;DR: NYSC has taken $712 of my money for personal training classes I never took. They have a fraudulent signature under my name and have lied to me about processing my refund on numerous occasions. They sent falsified docs to my bank as "proof" of charge. The Head Trainer has since been fired has he had numerous complaints filed against him. BUT I have yet to receive my money. Will not let this go and will not forget. DO NOT SIGN UP HERE!
This is most probably the worst Gym in New York City... customer service is GROSS!
Probably no worse or better than any of the other sports clubs in New York City. Free towel service and for the most part pretty clean. However there are always some machines which are not working or are in disrepair and need to be serviced
Place is huge, just make sure to ask where the downstairs is. I was going there for a year before I found out about huge weight room and cardio machines downstairs.
DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM - joined after the new year from Hoboken NYSC and was incredibly disappointed
Locker room is below average for the chain. Very cramped and small lockers. Bottom floor is nice, not a lot of room but the high ceiling makes a difference. Three flat bench presses which is more than any other branch I've been to. Unfortunately they don't have bumper plates.
As someone who has been a member for well over 8 years, this is the very low point in a history of many. To have PT s be rude, abusive and unprofessional towards me and then have their so called management team actually witness part of the roid behavior and condone it is very disturbing. Mario, the GM and Mike, the Fitness Manager were both notified yesterday and again today after both unprofessional behavior episodes by one of their PT s (Jack La Lane wann-a-be) and they said that we all needed to get along and be happy. I would like to know what if any supplements NYSC is requiring their managers to ingest.
The bottom line, this is the bottom for this gym and unless there is significant improvement in their employees attitudes towards it s customers, whom by the way pay their salaries and are directly responsible for their very existence, more and more will find a better and cheaper gym to workout in.
If you are considering this place, save yourself the aggravation because the equipment is aging and NYSC is not reinvesting their revenue into their locations with updated machinery.
A very small version of New York sports Clubs. Front desk person was not the least bit friendly. Bikes were very good. I would never go back here.
Awful, dishonest company. They implied I would not have a cancellation fee through my corporate discount, then billed me 150+another month to cancel. I was told by one NYSC that I had a credited amount on my account, then when I called to cancel, they suddenly were "unaware" of it and would not deduct if from my cancellation fee.
I used the West Village location, which was utterly disgusting. Dirty, dank, locker rooms smelled attrocious, weight room was limited in equipment and machines were old and in poor condition. Cramped, unfriendly staff, and rude clientele.
Avoid this gym and this company at all costs!!
Great personal trainer, nice selection of classes, clean and a host of machines.
broken lockers, stopped up sinks; maintenance here is terrible.
repairs take forever so some machines are out for weeks at a time
has a dungeon-esque feel to it. very catered to the midtown crowd so expect a lot of suits.
