I adopted my cats from this place. The staff is amazing and very helpful to share their knowledge about the animals and their needs. Beware!!! You might just come home with two! Love my cats!
We have adopted 2 cats and 3 dogs over the last 16 years from the Monterey SPCA and have been fortunate each time to have found love.
The best facility I have experienced for animals. Staff is excellent.
Nice place. Friendly, informative staff. Great prices.
If I could give a zero I would. My cat went missing last week, he usually gets out and comes back the next day. However this time he didn t come back. I ve been having a rough work week, 16 hour days and had no opportunity to call the shelter. So on my first day off I called the shelter because I saw his picture on there web site. I asked if they could hold him for me and was told he was being looked at and they could not. I jumped in the car with my 2 kids and was there in less than 15 minutes. He was still there. However another person was in the process of filling paperwork to adopt him. An associate told me very heartlessly there s nothing they can do about it since he now belongs to them, even after explaining my situation. They sent my kids home crying and broke up a family. Compassion is definitely lacking in this establishment. And FYI if the person who adopted him is reading this his name is Maru not Charlie and he s 11 months, birthday June 12th, not 3 years as they had him listed. I bottle fed him for 2 months after his mom passed away so I would know. I am heart broken and angry. You guys should be ashamed of your selves.
They're great with animals and they give shots and vaccinations and a lot lower price then vets.
Clean, expansive and well planned, staffed and funded.
Caring, reliable, and honest clinic for spay and neuter with such affordable prices. I greatly appreciate the existence of the SPCA. Compassionate staff and complete post surgery follow up. They were so efficient that I did not have time to be worried about my cat. Thanks to such a humane and kind organization, my cat acted as though nothing ever happened from the time she was released from the SPCA after her surgery, and reached full recovery with no complications whatsoever. Thank you very much SPCA for your dedications.
Friendly staff nice facility for the animals recommend setting up updates online so you can be notified when the animal you ate looking for is up for adoption
We were able to take home 3 kittens total. However one died when she got hit by a car when she was 2 years old. Shortly after we got another kitten. Now our 2 cats are part of our happy family.
We tell all of our family and friends to get an animal from the SPCA Shelter. Very clean, well organized organization. We will continue to support the SPCA of Monterey county.
This is a whole new kind of SPCA. So clean, sterile, and organized. The animals so obviously well loved and treated respectively. We love the visitation rooms and the personal pet profile postings. My dad use to take me and my siblings here when were little. It was a bit rustic back then. If you love animals you'll love hanging out here and maybe take one or two home. Unfortunately, we live out of state, but it's on our must go places to visit whenever in Monterey County. It's between Salinas and Monterey off Hwy68 across from the Laguna Seca Raceway.
The Veterinarian is Great, however the intake center employee was not.
CAN T KEEP YOUR PET?...PLEASE BEWARE
I realize that people want to believe the best. However, being told by the representative of this facility that they were a non-kill shelter, I was duped into surrendering my animal to them during a time of desperate personal crisis. This later was proven to be a lie on their part. It is a fact that they do euthanize. In regular communication with them I soon was able to see through them as being deceitful, power hungry and deadly (which has been a serious, yet accurate, ongoing claim made by others). My pet was very healthy upon entering their facility but became very ill soon after.
The owner/manager always has a well thought out but calm response to well deserved negative reviews such as these, and, always requests more information , but that is pointless as far as the truth is concerned. People should be aware of this.
A quote worth remembering: A liar cannot be believed even when he(or, she) speaks the truth. - Aesop
Thank you for reading this.
I hope this helps a beloved pet and spares someone from uneeded additional heart-break. If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of being unable to keep your pet, please consider other options which are available, rather than this facility. I wish I had.
Blessings.
Great place to get a pet staff really care about the pets
Really good services. They even said they will keep an animal there for years on end if they are not adopted until death.
Very nice lots of animals who are looking for homes the ladies are very nice
Horrible staff they were very insensitive and angry. My bf and i paid to place a hold on a kitten we were potentially going to adopt. The staff said it would be a 24 hour hold which was not true. I called early in the morning because I had a feeling the hold was not 24 hrs and they were annoyed I even called. When my bf picked up the kitten he noticed the kitten was severely sick and had cloudy, mucus in his eyes. Apparently most of the kittens in this room had respiratory infections. They did not provide a shot that was included with the list of services you recieved. They even had the nerve to tell us "well do you want him or not? Maybe the cat isn't adoptable and should be put down". We paid over 200 for the kitten at the spca and about 2,000 in vet Bill's because of how irresponsible the staff is. The animal rescue centers and other rescue places keep kittens who are sick away from the rest to prevent these sort of health issues. The reason why this bothered me so much was because it could have been prevented and other people might not have that kind of money to help the kitten they already paid to adopt. This review is not meant to discourage people from adopting from the spca. On the contrary it is meant for the staff to acknowledge this is unacceptable and change for the better of the animals and people adopting.
I cannot believe that the management at an SPCA is so inconsiderate, unavailable, greedy and just downright rude. At least they didn t kill my kittie. NEVER GO THERE. No compassion whatsoever. Hopefully my donation will go towards hiring a new manager that s not such a douche
Amazing animal care, best pound I've ever seen. I fell in love with every animal i met. They really hold themselves to a high standard and the staff is very proud of the work they do!
The dog adoption center at the SPCA MONTEREY COUNTY has been called the Country Club of the animal shelters. The dog "condos" are glass enclosed rooms that visitors can go in and sit/visit with the dogs for as long as they like. They can also walk the dogs outside or take them into an outdoor play yard. Wonderful for dogs and visitors alike.
My dogs were unnecessarily detained and " quarenteened" resulting in two cases of kennel cough. Not a no kill shelter, over priced adoption fee. Friendly staff.
So knowledgeable and experienced. Their released rates are great and they do,t the, any animals down.
Recently they've brought in some much more friendly volunteers and it makes the experience here so much nicer! All of the animals seem well cared for, too.
I've found a few furry friends here and each time I brought them back for shots, the process was extremely easy and I felt confident in the fact that the staff knew exactly what they were doing!
This SPCA is cleaned often and we'll maintained. The staff is helpful and friendly. The location is so pretty and in the woodsy area off of highway 68. The play areas to get to know the animals are well maintained and offer plenty of space.
On August 28 11:30 am
I guess the SPCA and the New Greenfield Dog catcher and Greenfield Police Department had nothing better to do and I don't know why they come. So they come to my house because the Female Dog catcher has been harassing us because I haven't registered my dogs. I haven't been financially able to get it done but I have already registered my dogs under the 30 days she said at the beginning she gave me.
I try to say to both the Dog catcher and the the two SPCA of Monterey County that it hasn't even been a week. But no they didn't what to listen and saying they are going by her word. I wanted to say,
"On August 25 in the morning My boyfriend and I ran into the New Dog Catcher in Greenfield, CA while we were having our morning walk with our dogs and she told us you have 30 days to get your dogs register and we said okay we will get it done. She was following us because a board collie was loose and following my dogs. I have a mini board collie she is a great dog well train soon to be agility champion and her two five month old puppies also a small female mix poodle/terroir. She asked me to help her and I refused and gets mad and I say its not my job and walk away, so I get home and I have a card left by her saying now I have a week to get my dogs register. I think to my self now I have a week okay Friday I will pay for registration so she can stop harassing me. But now few days later she comes gives me citation saying my week is up and today is the last day to register my dogs. Apparently someone has a person problem with me can't count to seven because that's how long a week is."
I don't know why SPCA and the police had to come, what they expected to find my dogs being mistreated or something, but no soon find out that my dogs live like spoiled brats. They are good dogs that obey and the female mom is getting prepared to go school for agility competition. Yes they were barking at the officers but like I explained to the female SPCA officer they are good dogs and are not being aggressive. Yes, the dogs are going to bark they are dogs but listen and saw that they obey and sit when they are told. Yes they are going to bark at stranger but wont bite.
She just has to abuse her power and give me an Admisnistrative Citation of $800 total
Next step take it to a public hearing...
And file harassment against Greenfield's new Dog Catcher
Me and my 4 yrold my 12 yr old and my kids dather enjoyed the kirtts alot specially one they call Pixie she was a fisty one
Staff here are always loving and compassionate. I've interacted more with the wildlife staff - they're very knowledgeable!
Nice place but I would like to see them horses without getting charge
Such a clean, welcoming, inviting shelter! All of my animals are adopted from Monterey County SPCA.
Wonderful, dedicated people protecting and caring for our wildlife. Awesome
Went to the vet clinic to get vaccinations for my dog.
We were helped quickly, and my dog was treated gently, as she was frightened and the process went smoothly.
The prices for the vaccinations were decent.
Definitely will take our pets there.
Tried to drop off a stray puppy I found. Front desk was rude and unhelpful.
Very clean and friendly staff. They also have good prices to adopt or anything that your pet needs examples vaccines, flea treatment and ect.
Adopted my dog from there and attended training classes. Loved Dianne who was our trainer and loved the people.
Saved me. Living in a van with 10 dogs. They took the 9 puppies and fixed Luna free. Much love for these people
I volunteer and foster. The staff is extremely supportive and care so much. They are working under hard, sad and sometimes under staffed (volunteer wise) conditions but always make the best of it.
Love volunteering here to visit the animals. Would adopt from here anyway if I had space for more.
This is such a great place! I can tell they take really good care of all the animals. Everyone is so friendly and the puppies are so cute!!
It's hard to argue with the place that works out a deal where are disabled handicapped senior citizen veteran can get his service dog rescue service dog fixed as in spayed for nothing they did me a service and I thank all the men and women who work or volunteer or donate to the SPCA thank you without a group effort this couldn't be done
Prices are the best in the area. No appointments, just walk-in during specified hours.
We had a dog that needed a series of shots for a vaccination. It was a series of shots and they administered the first one, saying to return within the designated time frame (a couple of weeks). Did just that and they weren't doing vaccinations all that week as there were no veterinarians on duty. They advised me that I'd have to make an appointment with a regular veterinary clinic. I asked and the veterinarians had already been scheduled to be out of the office. That would have been nice to know because with such short notice I wasn't able to find a clinic that could administer the second sequence within the designated time frame. I had wasted my money on the first visit. Very frustrating!
If you are looking for a pet, consider the SPCA. Make sure you sign up for email alerts since they do have special adoption events throughout the year where they offer lower adoption fees.
Great people, and wonderfully large place for animals to stay until they find new homes. Very well taken care of too.
great place for emotional therapy, the ability to go in and sit with the animals is calming and soothing for most.
This place is awesome !! great staff and make sure the animals are going to a good home. only problem is how they sort there dog prices by breed which i find to be strange but other than that the animals have clean enclosures and pretty good space.
Great place and great memories of Gonzalo rodriguez
Fantastic area to socialize with pets. They are much cleaner than they used to be and the staff are friendly.
Great organization and I have come here on numerous occasions to visit the animals at the shelter. On a busy day, the rooms get a too crowded making it hard to actually meet individual animals. Other then that, I have had great experiences here.
I was there today to walk some small dogs like a volunteer. I got a leash and took this white small dog . As I walked with it on green area that is located in front of the big dog area a black pit bull jumped towards us and started to attack the small dog. I am very afraid of pit bulls and screamed but the dog started to attempt to bite the small dog. After all this some attendants showed up .took them a while to say some hold the small dog as it was constantly being attached by the pit bull. I was frozen and just standing of shock and fear. Lost my keys and ten minutes later someone brought it to me. I was told the pit bull opened his cage himself and he can "sometimes do that" . Very dangerous and irresponsible of the staff to let that happen.also the small dogs rooms were so dirty with smell of urine it was too much...a very bad experience.
My partner and I have been visiting this place regularly for the past 3 months or so and I must say I'm very impressed with the volunteers, the space for the animals, the play yards, everything. My partner and I are now regular visitors at this point and I'm considering volunteering for them in the near future! I love animals and everytime I visit, I fall more in love with all of them. The animals seem very well taken care of and most seem adjusted to the place and the staff but of course some have trust issues. Most of the times, the animals are very interactive and really show their personality to us. They hold both big and small dogs, cats also. I love how each animal has an information card to tell you more about them. It is always very informative and will warn you about any pre-medical conditions or if they can't be around children under a certain age, etc. The only thing I'd change about the information cards is how they don't mention what exactly the breed is mixed with. For example, a lot of them say "Chihuahua cross" but I'm not sure if they go into details with that during the adoption process so I won't get into that. For the most part, GREAT VOLUNTEERS, VERY HELPFUL, READY TO HELP AND READY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS, SWEET HARMLESS ANIMALS. I WANT TO ADOPT THEM ALL!!!
Got a dog and a cat from there. Great place . Wide selection
Beautiful place with well cared for animals. I will be back when we are ready to add to our family and adopt. The animals stay here for as long as they need. Until adopted. No euthanasia here. Well maybe if the dog is ill enough and needs it, but I mean they won't put sparky or fluffy to sleep just because they are not being adopted.
Cute rooms for humans to interact with cats and kittens. Good size and good selection of animals to adopt from.
Soooo many kittens, so little time. I will have to go back to spend some time with them , the staff is always nice and inviting
Very nice service and takes care of there animals one problem is the room sizes in the puppy room
It's clean, elegant, well laid out and the staff is quite knowledgeable!!! They know a little something about each animal and how best to take care of them. Upon our departure; I commented to my daughter that the SPCA should have charged us:-0)
Look, it's an SPCA... But, ima give 5 stars. I needed my cat spayed. Called every vet i could locate on Google, all gave me an estimate of over $200... I should have gotten my cat spayed some place OTHER than CA where it's less than $100 from a proper vet... So, back to SPCA: waiting list for spays and neuters, but i honestly didn't have to wait too long, and it was only $30, plus i got her her shots while there, and in total, i got her all legal for less than $100. I've been to some places that price gouge or stink, this place wasn't that. It seems pretty legit. My kitty had no problems. So, if you need low cost, basic pet care, definitely get in touch with this place.
This place is great. Their prices are reasonable compared to our Vets prices. And personnel is awesome.
Very helpful in pointing me in the right direction to find my lost cat.
They were so amazing. My friend had to put her dog down. They have a quiet room where she was able to spend time with her as they put her to sleep. They offer cremation with beautiful little boxes. My friend opted for her paw print on a plaque with her name. These people are who you want to be with you at a time like this.
They let you play with the dog outside. They are so nice.
they do all that you hope one would do for a pet/animal in need.
Across the street from Laguna Seca, this is a great facility with a lot of spaces to take the animals out of their enclosures and get to know them. Ask the front desk for a leash to walk a dog around or bring a cat or bunny into a "get to know you" room! Kitten rooms are rooms full of KITTENS roaming free and waiting to be pet and played with. Turnaround is pretty quick so check back often if you don't find your new pet the first time around. And don't forget to ask about bunnies, ducks, guinea pigs, horses, donkeys, goats, and pigs down at the barn!
