Oh my gooood. I came to the ER for a basic med, not a controlled substance or something that gets me high. I couldn't get it refilled at home because I'm traveling. The PA, Richard, was a complete axxhole and said he would NOT help. Could not believe it. he even made some smart a$$ comments when I was leaving. I'm still in shock. I've been to some bad VAs but this is the worst.

Totally horrible. Everytime I come to the VA Emergency room I get nothing but execuses and poor service. I have been coming to the VA Emergency room since April for lower back pain because my PCM in the Octotillo clinic won't do anything to get my MRI appt moved up sooner. It took the VA 6 months to find out I had Valley Fever. I told the VA I was about to lose my job because because as a retired vet I was not getting adequate care a d they did nothing to fix the problem and the didn't care about be the cause of a vet losing their job. I can't never get an appointment with my PCM.

The finest people in the SW! When my father, Noel, was in respite and finally in hospice care, the staff at the Tucson VA Medical Center treated him as if he was the only one in the place.
The staff listened to him and his wife and adjusting as he needed.
My siblings and I are not AZ residence and the staff here assured us that when we were sleeping or on our way to the VA, if Dad was to meet his maker, he would not be alone: a staff member would be there holding his hand. I was not able to be there when passed on, but I left with the confidence of knowing he would be well cared for on his last day. God bless the Tucson VA Medical Center.

The worst hospital around. Basically a bunch of washed up Drs who can't get a job no where else. Had 2 that were great but one left and the other was just a fill in when he left. Pain clinic is a joke. I have found out so much more about my pain and injury from a outside dr whom owns 5 pain clinics of his own and is amazing. Sad how people on public assistance get better Drs and treatment then us veterans. The va runs away all the good Drs and keep the ones who kiss a$$ and don't do there job. I just got a new pcp and we will see what kind of care I get now. If you see the pain clinic tho run away. Tried to get in to speak with the acting director office and was told I couldn't. So we will see what happens when I contact my congressman office again. I really hope they just close all the va down and give us outside insurance. We deserve it.

My wife (an RN) and I care for my relative who is a vet. Based on our experiences, the SAVAHCS is top notch. Great care, timely, professional. The anti coagulation clinic is most professional, and proactive with telephone communication. We realize that many reviewers don't share this sentiment, but our experience has been nothing but exceptional.

It's a very nice facility, first time there with a family member. I had no idea it was such a large complex. I found map and directions to be well marked and easy to follow through the maze of buildings on the campus.

Avoid the ER here on nights after 8 PM. I am sitting here with pain of SIX on a scale of 1-10, because Dr. Kowalski is more fond of humiliating patients and covering his ass than he is of treating veterans.

Was told I had a brain bleed and needed to get emergency care at the ER. I went from being #6 in line to being #18 in line. They literally let every single person before and after me to go, while they had minor problems. The VA doesn't think a brain bleed is a major problem. I was sent directly from my Doctor's office to the VA ER, and I was forced to wait for 4.5 hours, until I was more or less told by one of the staff that with the # of patients they were getting it would be unlikely I'd be seen. I hope I die of a brain bleed so my survivors can devastate you in court.

If you are trying to maintain a job, there is no way you can be a patient at this facility. It takes hours to make an appointment for several months in the future. Your "doctor" may be slightly better than a prison doctor. I would recommend committing a murder if you need this level of heathcare. That way you don't have to worry about keeping your job while they waste all of your time to get low end service. As I am writing this, I have been transferred 3 times to an endless waiting loop. Seriously, you should murder someone, you will see a better doctor and quicker.

Horrible emergency triage. The person doing triage wore a hearing aid that kept falling out. He couldn't understand what was being said and was extremely rude. The area is not well marked with the emergency entrance difficult to locate. While ambulances and anyone driven can be taken to the entrance , if you drive yourself be prepared to walk a distance by yourself. Avoid this VA location if at all possible.

More discrimination around the AZ social safety net. As a homeless veteran I went there for help. They said I could not get benefits. All I needed was a place to shower and do laundry- big deal to them. Somewhere between the licensed social workers and volunteers that work there is a major people problem. And the Phoenix VA is even worse- been there also- as reported recently with a death or 2 because of a "waiting list" for services. No respect, no dignity, and no merit. They are not quality minded, they are more like carefree and careless. How dishonoring :(

I have nothing but the best service from SAVHC. The employees are the best around. I have Parkinson's and my doctor work with Tucson Medical Center and coordinated my recent surgery and appointments there after with the utmost professionalism. When ever I have a problem I just call them and they get me in as soon as possible, same day sometimes. I owe them my life. I am so grateful for the doctor's, nurses and staff at this hospital. Thank you for caring about ME!

My brother has cardiac issues and was shocked by his IVP, he went to ER with chest pain, pressure and vomiting. After waiting 2.5 hours, he left. I called to speak with the RN and was told my brother never mentioned chest pain, which is the only reason he went to ER. The following morning at 5 a.m. an ambulance was called and he ended up at another hospital and was seen immediately. VA hospital requires a house cleaning. Veterans fought for us, let us all advocate for them.

Dr. Chis top her Chen is the best doctor my husband ever had. Very professional while still showing a very caring, respectful, patient, and knowledgeable attitude. He went above and beyond what we ever expected. While my husband was going through chemo treatments, Dr.Chen gave us hope while also helping us face some reality. Thank you, Dr. Chen. I'll never forget you.

I broke my wrist and after waiting 12 and a half hours in their ER, they sent me home with nothing saying it wasn't broken. A week later I had not slept for days and knew it was broken and called complaining and a triage nurse said actually the xrays show that it is broken.

On another occasion I went in to the ER for a severe skin infection. They didnt do anything and the Doctor was a huge jerk, even saying "What do you want me to do, I'm not a specialist!"

On yet another occasion I had to have my father bring me to the hospital because I was severely dehydrated. He saw first hand the disgusting way they do things at the hospital. I was so dehydrated that I thought I was going to die and the nurse who took my vitals tried to kick me out for not answering what my age was fast enough for her.

So many more bad experiences here but I think you got the idea already. Good luck if you do decide to take your chances here. The patient advocate is also worthless. I fought in the Iraq war for 14 long months 2007 - 2008 and this is what I get in return? Dont even get me started on how they treated my friend who was in 82nd AB with a purple heart...

I show up 15 minutes before my appointment as required and I have never waited more than 20 minutes for the doctors to see me. When I used the best private physicians in Tucson back in the day I showed up early and always waited at least an hour. Had pharmaceutical sales reps show up with out an appointment and be taken care of by the doctors before his waiting patients were. I personally love this VA Hospital and don't understand why a few don't. I have serious medical needs resulting from combat and I believe the care I am recieving is by far the best there is.

I'm disabled like a lot of us in the VA Hospital S...

I'm disabled like a lot of us in the VA Hospital System are. I go in for a scheduled appointment every 3 months and have always been taken into the Doctor on time for the last 3 years. All you have to do to receive such care is show up 15 minutes early and not cancel appointments constantly. My buddies that don't follow those simple rules are always complaining about poor service. If you served in the military you should know how to follow rules. Your appointments and clinics are orders you must abide by. Otherwise you suffer just like you would if you were still on active duty. It's your duty to cooperate with the system. It works for me and my buddies that follow those simple rules. So it blows my mind that some veterans complain over and over again about poor service and the health care here. The medical assistance I receive here is far better than any care I had outside of the VA Hospital System. Outside of this system I waited 1 hour at least after showing up early for a scheduled appointment. Many times pharmaceutical sales people just walked in and were taken immediately with no wait. I'm treated with respect here and I was just an E4 when I served. Thank God for this place!

It takes A LOT for me to give someone 5 stars on a review. BUT- the Emergency Department at the VA Tucson was amazing! And I'm talking about the ENTIRE STAFF- Volunteers/checkin staff/triage/radiology/ER Treatment Nurses/PA/Doctors/Pharmacy!
If I could only pack up the PA (John Wilson) that treated me and bring him to Sierra Vista! His attitude and professionalism was uplifting. He handled patients with gentle care but firm and confident with treatment plans. Great asset to the VA in Tucson!
I also want to comment about one specific volunteer. KEN ?? He was so personal with my visit. He explained the entire process, escorted me to CT, brought me to treatment, and then when I was in another department changing my legal name- he came in and checked on me! WOW! Just an amazing Veteran who pays forward to other Veterans. Thank-you!

Was witness to staff "gas lighting" an elderly patient in the e.d. The staff are often rude, hostile, and try to be intimidating. Service is unnecessarily slow, getting a response on the phone is nearly impossible, and scheduling is a nightmare. The only positive is the lab has competent, friendly staff who are all great at blood draws, even on hard sticks.

no one seems to know how to go about getting a covid test and no one seems to *really* know what the procedures are. i spoke to several people who gave me different instructions. first i called the Tucson northwest clinic and they told me to call the main medical facility. i did and was told to call the appointment line, so I did, and sat on hold for 45 minutes until the call was dropped by them. when i called back i was told that i needed to call my primary care provider and schedule the test with her. i called but the number was not in service. called back and spoke to the operator (she was very very nice and empathetic) who said i might need to call the eligibility office to ensure the number to my provider was correct. I did, and he transferred me to someone else who told me i needed to wait for a call from a nurse. a nurse finally did call me at 1245 AM (seriously?) so that call was missed. she left a message instructing me to go to the ER if i had symptoms or else call the nurse line. at this point i'm just baffled i can't get a straight answer as to how to get a covid test so i'll likely sit in line at one of the free county testing sites. thanks for having my back, VA.

Very friendly!

Very friendly!

The staff here is very friendly and willing to help. It's easy to get lost at first, but everyone I asked for help was willing to stop what they were doing and assist me. The first primary care visit was very organized and there were no waiting times at all. I'm glad I was able to transfer to this campus. It is very nice and neatly landscaped. The only drawback is the limited parking. Otherwise, this VAMC would have received 5 stars.

Overall I feel very good about the quality of care here. Like most VA facilities I've been to, there are waits that are often longer than on the private sector, but in their defense, this is less about the facility and more about the fact that the government doesn't adequately fund them so they are chronically short staffed. Anyway, I've always had good care here and for the most part the staff is friendly and helpful and seem to care. The facility itself is gorgeous and modern, though with a definite SW design.

This is without a doubt one of the worst health care systems I have ever had to use. A lack of professional conduct by the staff and medical personnel seems to be the normal operation on a daily basis. Long wait times, very short interviews with the medical personnel and a distinct feeling of minimal care is paramount. I have never used a VA system as poorly operated as this one is. If I had a choice, I would certainly go elsewhere. Right now the choices offered are little to poor care or none at all. Some choice!

I was Hospitalized at the Tucson VA from early October to discharge on November 18th. While the personnel were AWESOME, the food is so horrible I wouldn't feed it to my dogs. Thankfully my wife was able to bring in enough to keep me alive.

Like I said, the people were great. The Doctors were doing their best to not only take care of me, but many others. The Nurses and cleaning crew were all very helpful and caring, as were the people in Physical Therapy. My only complaint is these people have too many patients, but I have been told the Tucson VA has received funds to hire more Doctors and Nurses.

So the personnel I give 5 stars to, the food I give a half star to. The food is horrible, and the VA should be ashamed to feed such crappy food to Veterans who are struggling to recover.

The doctors that I have seen are fantastic. I changed my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars because a patient advocate called me regarding my MRI and I was told that the lady who was now scheduling imaging appointments did not normally work in that department, but due to sickness among employees she was doing the best job she could do to try to keep the department running as smooth as possible. Good customer service representatives would have called the patient to let them know that their order had expired so they could get their doctor to write a new order.

My husband has been going to this VA hospital since 2004 and has had nothing but the best care! The doctors and staff are professional, knowledgeable, compassionate and just amazing! My husband has had a couple of surgeries and the staff made sure I could stay near since I live over an hour away. The Fisher House on the hospital premises allowed me to stay for the duration of my husband's hospital stay free of charge. I highly recommend the Tucson VA facility in particular.

It is wonderful that the V.A.s checking for COVID symptoms. But you are allowing people to come in with a mask that has a valve. And it has already been proven that the vavels sprays out with whatever they have. Bandanas, gators and mask with valves have all been proven to NOT WORK. The worst hospital I've ever been too! The dr in the pain clinic does not go by facts of what is wrong with a vet. Even with MRI xrays and every other dr saying my back and neck are screwed from being injured in Iraq she does absolutely nothing for help. Besides send you to pt which causes more pain then helping. Crazy how a dr like this is even employed to help us veterans. I had to get outside insurance which my outside clinic is absolutely amazing and have helped with injections and trying many other treatments my pcp at the va that I really liked left and was on the news saying how lazy these drs are. Why cant us vets just get regular health care like people on access and they shut the va down seems like they would save a ton of money. If they could keep good drs and get rid of the ones that are washed up like the lady in the pain clinic I'd give it another try. Why cant we get drs who are not washed up and ones who actually love to help us veterans. There are plenty out there that would be honored to help us. Yeah the er I've waited many times over 12 hours. They really need to be completely gone threw and get out the many bad seeds.

Am I wasting my time, or are the true issues being addressed? I give credit where credit is due, otherwise 1 ! I have been using this facility for over 3 yrs now. And I don't understand certain protocol as to truly attending to not only my needs, but a concern for my fellow veteran patients? Certain clinics & staff have revealed their true colors. Is it about me, or about them having elite status in life? I will compare Tucson with San Antonio, yes its only my observation. But if you knew me, I do my utmost to live by a higher standard of integrity(imperfect as all are)Disingenuous easy to detect for me! No SA not outstanding although it far exceeds Tucson in many facets. And I have been to civilian clinics and hospitals. Everyone has flaws, although the Tucson VA, MORE than most! Do they see the flaws, or just don't CARE?? Healthcare should always be about the patient. And if all you can muster up is 1 per the latest VAMC ratings, time to revamp Your agenda.

If you are a veteran and are not in the VA computers for care, please do yourself a favor and get in the system. You will receive very good care and humane treatment. If you don't (after getting some care and help) report it to the CEO of the SAVAHCS and I am sure it will be straightened out. I myself have had several surgeries and am receiving medication and can only say that this hospital is the best in Tucson.

I wish someone would do something about the Tucson...

I wish someone would do something about the Tucson VA. My husband is 100% disabled service related, and served in the Army and USMC. He has had over 15 surgeries. First they had him on TWO kinds of morphine-which he was addicted to, and turning into a "zombie". Got him off of that, now after many "pain management" classes, they played around, and refused to give him any pain meds. Then they finally give him Oxy's, but such a low does they barely made his pain bearable. I know how addictive Oxy's are-not big news you see it everywhere.

Yesterday, he was denied help, and a potential new device to help his back because "his outlook was not good", and because he smokes. Of course his outlook is not good! For 3 years he has been waiting for SOMETHING, or SOMEONE to help him, and nothing. Are they offering to help him quit smoking? NO!! How many employees that work there, or other vets smoke? It's not illegal.

Dr. Korshirka discriminates! So does Eve Broughton in pain management. VERY rude, and UNcompassionate people.

Snow Birds get help BEFORE the locals, wtf is that?

I am fed up and pissed off, and nobody will help him, the DAV is a joke, he went to them for help, as well as alot of other people, nobody cares, nobody will help him.

Tucson VA, ha, ha! I have been beat up by a male nurse. Threatened by 2 doctors. One doctor stood up, threatened me with pain and then threw his prescription pad on the floor hard, and said "if you get me in any trouble, your prescriptions are going to stop." I got into a wreck last year and I think I have a concussion. U of A hospital said I broke my neck. But I refuse to go to my primary or any VA doctor. I'm not rocking his world. It is bad enough to wait 3 hours for a blood test, 4 times in a row. I"m not nuts, I will not be a whistle blower. I want to live for a little longer. Tucson has bad data in this survey.

My fiance has been calling VA because his neck was swollen. The sad thing is they kept passing him on to a Dr. in LA. How in the world can he help???? They said he would call. Guess what he never did call!!! I wish they would treat patients with more importance since they are in health care. Why would my fiance call them if he was not in pain.... hoping you would have better service for your veterans

I have received medical care from the Tucson VA for 11 years and overall it is very good. There are some warts, large turn over of doctors and nurses due to the VA hiring and paying large salaries to management people who justify their high pay, raises and bonuses on how little they can pay the doctors and nurses that are actually doing the work. The people responsible for granting VA benefits to the veterans seem to get their jollies by denying eligible veterans those benefits.
Once you are in the VA system the care you receive is better and much more available to the average person. Just try calling around Tucson or Green Valley and see how soon you can get a doctor's appointment, usually a month or so and they want your VISA number up front. I'll keep my VA health care. D. A joke. Any provider that s any good is not there...

A joke. Any provider that s any good is not there long. Saguaro Clinic PCM will only see their patients once a year. ER, if you are unfortunate enough to go, will tell you to follow up the the PCM that you CANT get an appointment with.

First PCM at this facility listened to me and they actually found hip and femur issues after he ordered X-ray which evolved into more X-ray and MRI, then orthopedic referral. Down hill from there, as I was this guy s appointment just before lunch and basically he said to find a orthopedic oncologist and set it up through my civilian doctor.

Fast forward to my next annual PCM appointment, and guess who is no longer there. Now I see a condescending doctor who wouldn t listen or truly look at anything that I had listed that is still bothering me. Instead, let me diagnose with generalities. When I complained about the pain in hip, shoulder, and ankle that have been happening for about a year now, his reply was what do you want me to do, give you a new body?

First and foremost, he doesn t know me. I don t bring something up unless it really is an issue, and past discoveries by real doctors have led to a few surgeries for issues that had the doctor not truly listened, would have gone untreated. I know my body, my pain tolerance, and what is normal for me.

This place is a joke!

Update: I have pretty much walked away from care at Tucson facility. My husband still gets care there but has now moved into the nightmare that calls itself medical care. I think the doctors and nurses all need to be investigated for negligence. Anyone who has experienced this abuse, please, I beg you to pick up your phone and call Ann Kirkpatrick or one of the other congressional offices. Veterans will continue to receive poor and improper medical treatment as long as they can swat it away as they have been able to.

Treat veterans as all "look the same", one size fits all. Being a woman veteran, less care options. Retaliation if veteran says hey, this is not the best for me to a provider (doctor). In speaking up for yourself they will bog you down by referring you to another dept. Who do the same thing. Asking either Republican or democratic party (Sen.or Rep.) VA officials will lie and say the provider and veteran have come to a agreement. Will repeat letter as many times. One nurse practitioner said all veterans are liars and drug addicts. Have reached out to a lot of people (who could help but afraid of retribution)and all say they are aware of the problems but yet have hung veterans out to dry.

I just transferred from the Atlanta system to Tucson, and it's the complete opposite here. I'm so glad I made the move, and I will finally be getting the healthcare I need. I was so lost with the Atlanta system and there were so few services or wait lists at clinics that were actually in my area. A patient advocate would take several months to get back with me if I had an issue. I mostly was paying for private healthcare because the Atlanta system was so difficult to use or you couldn't get a hold of the person you needed for a service. Everything in Tucson has been so easy so far and I'm actually getting appointments set up for the services I need!!!

Have been treated there as a veteran and as an employee. Always had competent care there. I am 100% disabled permanent and total. If you are a walk in you will wait. If you have an appointment you won't wait. It's pretty simple. I can't comment on the food served to inpatients. I've only had outpatient care there. The food in the Canteen was OK, no complaints.

All I can say is good and bad general care I think is good but emergency care for mental health is poor. Doctors don't trust what you say is going on. They'll admit a drunk but when you report odd behavior they just send you away and when it becomes more pronounced so that the police become involved then they take notice.
