We had absolutely terrible experience dealing with Solar Chem Ltd. Unprofessional, rude, irresponsible staff. We paid $8000 for the roof repair job and ended up with multiple leaks in the roof after the first rain. We had to pay $1600 for the roof consultant's reports in order to prove that the conducted repair job was done unprofessionally. Eventually we took this company to the Dispute Tribunal and won full refund. We don't recommend this company!

We went with their $600+ quote instead of the $300-$400 ones we got from other companies because Roly was professional and shown to be quite attentive. Things kind of went down hill after accepting the quote and the job sent to production . There was no contact for almost 2 months to schedule time. After job was finally completed (just wash and gutter clean) and paid, I followed up about the other issue with the roof which they said they would look at when they re up there and provide quote to fix. I emailed and called but they never responded. Quite disappointing and wouldn t recommend.
Solar Chem Roofing (SCR) recently completed the Moss & Lichen Treatment at my Dad's place (which is part of their maintenance program after the roof was painted a few years ago). We are really pleased with the service & results. The roof still looks as good as new. Highly recommend Solar Chem Roofing.
Probably best avoided. We asked for a quote to fix a small leak and they quoted $560 to replace screws and fix the leak. They did the work to replace the screws, but this has not stopped the leak. Further emails and phone calls have been completely ignored. I would advise selecting a different company if you can.
Solar Chem roofing is my roofer of choice (I have used them west and south auckland) as the work is undertaken with consideration for our tenants. Communication is great and the pricing is very competitive as we have reviewed other providers. Roofing companies can be inconsistent in their availability due to demand but SCR always get the job done and we have never had issues with the quality of the workmanship - thank you team!
SCR came recommended by a contact in the roofing industry and they repaired our roof in good time, including sourcing extra tiles to replace exiting broken and cracked units. The job was finished with a recoating of the tiles. At all times we were updated with progress. Happy to recommend SCR.
Absolutely appalled by communication. Was basically shouted down on the phone. Do not recommend. Look at other reviews on Google. Dishonest and rude people.
I have used Solar Chem on three different occasions and have had a good experience with them. Roly assisted me earlier and was spectacular. Steve and Justin served me recently and were responsive, kept me informed on the job and were courteous and professional. I will certainly call on them again and will and have recommended them to friends and colleagues.
Apparently good quality of initial roof recoating and repair but painfully slow response to any leaks thereafter, ( including one I suspect was precipitated by their own moss control guy)
PRO's: - Hap, this guy is an absolute legend and I wish all our dealings with this company were solely with him. His attitude and ability to get things done quickly was amazing and his knowledge was fantastic. If it were based on him alone, 5 stars. This company owes him alot - thank you hap for what you did for us.
- Now that the roof is finished, the result is great. To be fair the team did do a lovely job at a time of year that I know is very busy.
However.. there were cons.
CON's. - unfortunately as others have mentioned our dealings with 'steve' were less than ideal. He was rude, dishonest and dismissive. Steve, maybe take a few notes from Hap about customer service. It will get your business further.
- Just a month prior to having our roof re done we paid alot of money for new gutters. However, the boys placed their ladders up against our gutter and scratched them up quite badly. When this was brought up with steve, he put down his staff and told us 'it's the nature of what we do'. He proceeded to say that it was not the ladders, but instead the hoses. Which was absolutly false. The next day, the young lads using ladders all had a barrier between the gutter and ladder and what do you know, no more scratched off paint. Credit were it's due, they did later rectify this with patch up job. We appreciated this. In future tho, own the mistake rather than lie your way around it.
Overall, the team did a good job. Hence the 4 stars. If you can get away with not communicating with steve then your set to have a good experience.
We have used SolarChem Roofing for two properties and Roly, Steve and the team were fantastic to deal with. From replacement of broken tiles and mortar repairs, cleaning and painting, the job was completed to a high quality. Our roof looks fantastic! The reminder, and very reasonably priced annual maintenance keeps the roof looking like new. Rubbish service, slapped some silicon on a tile roof then left. Contacted the manager who said he'd get back to us but still haven't heard anything back. Disappointing
I had a leaky roof as they left a tile out of place or unsecured. Even a polite request to investigate why this happened was answered rudely. They virtually said get lost and we don't care if you were our customer for many years. Appalling attitude of Rob the manager.
We engaged Solar Chem Roofing to clean, where necessary repair, and seal our steep tile roof, which had received only minimal levels of attention over its 28 year life-span. We were impressed by the systematic, professional and thorough work performed by specialist teams and individuals, each in their turn. The workers were all friendly, courteous and polite. We were barely aware they were there, so considerate they were. We were kept up to date with progress and planned work. We brought SCR in to work in tandem with a painting firm, who were painting and where necessary repairing the upper level's weatherboard exterior. The two teams interacted well and without any disagreements or operational issues. The result is outstanding, the object of admiration from many neighbours, at least one of whom is planning to use SCR in the coming summer. Even in the process, neighbours were impressed by the diligence and care they could see being taken. Both the work and the results have reset the benchmark in our neighbourhood for roof maintenance and repair.
Most unprofessional service I have ever received from a company. It all starts off great when you deal with Roly who is professional, responsive and cheerful. Then you get handed over to Steve and its all downhill. Hes the most unprofessional, rude person I've ever had to deal with, obviously doesnt care about his job or his customers and just cant be effed. My whole job took almost a year from start to finish because of him and was highly stressful and not once did he apologise for his stuff ups. DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY, CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE!
These guys spray my roof every 3 years and have always done a great job. Very careful to water plants before and after to prevent damage from overspray.
Excellent service from Solar Chem, inspection done promptly and was comprehensive, repairs done to a high standard and all on time and budget. Roof looks excellent. Recommended.
SCR inspected my leaking tile roof and identified that the tiles were in need of maintenance ( 30 year old roof)and repair . I decided to have the roof re-coated and this was done in a timely fashion and I was delighted at the finished result. SCR was prompt at responding to my initial query and also kept me up to date with progress as there were some delays as would be expected due to winter weather conditions. Would highly recommend their services.
