Southern comfort food with a modern flare. The decor is warm and light. The music is soulful. The food is outstanding. I thoroughly enjoy and recommend Brunch. The Macaroni and Cheese is amazing. And another favorite is the Chicken and Waffles...need I say more. This place is popular so plan accordingly.

Overall I would give this experience a 10+. This place has done a complete turn around. My 1st visit in Feb.2019 was a -10rating due to over 1hr wait (with reservation), slow service, missing utensils, noisy, unattentive waiter, I had to ask for utensils, black pepper, water, I didn't like a drink but the waiter still charged for a drink he took away instead of replacing it or adding flavor. It took over 10 mins to pay the tab... It just killed 3 hours of my day for sucky food and service. I told myself that this place is overrated and I would not be returning.

Fast forward 6 months later, I'm in the neighborhood and this is the chosen venue. Despite my previous experience, I gave it a try again and I am happy that I did. EVERYTHING was AMAZING, I'm not exaggerating either. The host was very inviting and seated us at the bar until a table was ready. The bartender was professional and kind and even knew to bring our drink to our table, which by the way was so good, we had 2 rounds . What I found interesting was, both the waiter and the bartender, went above and beyond to make sure that everything was to our satisfaction. It felt like we had a private dining with 3 butlers! The food was the served timely, hot and delicious. I'm happy they added spinach to the steak and eggs entree because it was very tasty unlike my previous visit. We ordered 3 entres and an appetizer and they ALL flavorful and delicious. Due to attentive staff, excellent service, delicious food, on this day we tipped 30% and I will definitely be returning.

Soooo. Went to Soco once before and really enjoyed the food. Came back last night and now I realized why they have bad reviews. Food was mediocre. I honestly felt as if people didn't want to help/serve us because we were Asian. Stuck us in the corner of their store and it took us 10-15 minutes of sitting around to get a glass of water and no directions as to how to get a menu (seems there may have been a QR code? We ended up pulling up a menu up on their website as a last resort). I literally raised my hands up for minutes with no one caring and I can tell there were workers standing by the walls who saw me and pretended they didn't. When water and dinnerware were finally brought out, they were missing a set and of course that took a while to get anyone's attention to remedy too. Mind you, it wasn't even that crowded. Food came out at an unbearably slow pace and wasn't anything spectacular. This place absolutely deserves a 1 star. I won't be returning nor will I be recommending anyone else to do so. There's much better food with happier service elsewhere.

Decent spot with great customer service. Waiter was beyond attentive and gave advice on menu. Gumbo appetizer is delicious and will fill you up, deviled eggs presentation is nice but flavor was just salt...Main course Blackened Salmon...Delicious and flavorful!!! Would get it again.

This restaurant is amazing. The customer service is phenomenal. I don t have to ask for a refill, once food is done, plate is removed. Drinks on point. I had the fish and chips. The Cajun fries were extremely salty! Way too much salt on the fries. I am sure my blood pressure went out the roof. The catfish was okay. For the $19 price of it, it was definitely not worth it!! Been to Soco plenty of times before in the past. Never had an issue before at all. After this experience I don t have any intentions on going back!

The service was AMAZING. The server was so attentive. It really made for a great experience. I ordered the chicken and Waffles. The chicken was AMAZING the waffles were more of a cake like consistency, still really good but I wished it was more waffle like. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich and it was great. It was packed with chicken and the fries were so good!

I'm giving it a 5 Star, though I've never and will probably never eat there! ... Judging from the pictures, everything looks cooked very well, .. Something the majority of black people prefer! ..js

I ll start with the positives. The ambiance is great. I went Sunday for brunch. The hostess is fabulous, awesome personality and friendly. We were seated timely and our waiter Evan was wonderful. The food is the issue, it just wasn t that good. I had the sweet potato pancakes and I was underwhelmed. My friends has the red velvet pancakes with chicken and that was also just okay. Not real red velvet, just food coloring to turn it red. I don t understand why not just have regular pancakes. The red dye was staining my friends plate. The f que wings are GREAT! The peach Bellini and the mimosas were great. I wouldn t return for the food, maybe the wings only.

I only gave it three stars but I need to say, i LOVE the food. I LOVE the service. But it was ridiculous to go through the trouble of making reservations to still have to wait an hour to be seated. But I really appreciate our server Tory. She went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. The menu has recently gone through an upgrade, and so has management. Nonetheless, The quality of food, has remained perfect. The flavors, spices of the dishes I've eaten are savory, give me a nostalgic feeling of when I use to visit my Big Ma in South Carolina and eat her delicious southern traditional recipes. Some of the dishes also remind me of my wanderlust visits to the Caribbean. The menu gets me as a foodie, Chef, and my cultural roots. Brunch is by far one of thee best options I've experienced. If you're in Brooklyn come by! My daughter Loves this place too. We do a lot of Mommy daughter, dinner dates here. In fact, my whole family loves this restaurant. As for servers, I've only had one energetic encounter with one of the Servers, who seems to be very distant, but in observing, he may consider himself being extremely focused on his job. Though he can stand to be a bit more attentive to the folks he's serving. Other than that, the staff, servers are always accommodating.

I dined at Soco on A Tuesday evening and to my suprise it was pretty packed. We chose to be seated in the outdoor part which was pretty cute but it was a limited space so if you like room then the outdoor part is not for you. They really had some interesting cocktails on the menu. We ordered fried oysters which really good but not worth the price to me. I had the red velvet waffles with fried chicken which was a big portion of food. Me and my friend end up sharing a side of macaroni & cheese which was the best damn mac n cheese I've had on planet earth. Definitely considering going there again.

Yum yum yum! I had the fried chicken sandwich it was delicious and their white cheddar grits are to die for! The best grits I've ever had. It's romantic, funky, and they also have a great drink selection! The SOCO Carmel Martini is a perfect sweet desert drink! I recommend trying it out!

Had to scour the menu for vegetarian options but the options were delicious.
The host, Maurice, was very friendly and accommodating. Other members of the staff were very friendly and professional as well. Our waitress seemed overworked and grumpy (everybody has those days)
Overall good food, good vibes, good music, REALLY good drinks. Worth checking out.

Thank you for the memories Gia! Service was great and my father shared a wonderful meal on his birthday with his children. Now let me say that pricing is incorrect from the website to the restaurant. There were at least 3 items we ordered that were a buck or 2 more than the website pricing. And a $20 cake cutting charge is absurd and i didn't see that anywhere on the website. And we ordered a burger and paid $1 fee seperate from the $18 meal! C'mon really? This place is making bank and its a shame that there pinching even for a glass of water. COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF! AMAZING EATS! The staff was wonderful! To the owner, your overcharging your customers.

The worst service tonight from a water named Lamar. We waited over an hour for mac n cheese. Nothing else, just mac n cheese. Typically when there is going to be such a long wait, you're suppose to check in with the customer to at least warn them and let them know. It would made sense had we not see a party of 4 that was seated 15 mins after us receive the Mac n cheese they ordered. I was not happy at all tonight.

I've been here so many times in the last 6yrs. But im not sure ill be going back. I called my order in, asked for Jambalaya and Fried Chicken with waffles.

Waited in my car outside the restaurant, spent almost $60 and my jambalaya was ruined. Usually in the past it was packed in a plastic container with a lid. Why would someone put a dish with sauce in this small container with a hole in it. So of course I got home and all my sauce spilled out. Called the restaurant 7x, left vm no answer. Sent a email, week later no reply. Extremely unprofessional and ill probably dispute part of the bill with my bank since they won't handle the matter. But I don't want dry Jambalaya especially not at these prices.

The gumbo is RIDICULOUS. Backstory - I've been searching for the best gumbo near me and this is the third I've tried and it's everything I was looking for. Also the cornbread!! Perfectly sweet and they give you this lovely butter. I'm definitely going back to try other things!!!

This place is pretty amazing! Came for their all day brunch on Sunday and the vibe there was awesome. There was an phenomenal violinist playing the tunes that day and the crowd was feeling every song. This was my second visit and I had to get the red velvet chicken and waffles again. Couldn't have asked for more! The chicken was seasoned and cooked well, and the waffles were soft, warm and delicious. I also had the Mac and cheese, which could be a meal by itself! No complaints there. Wish they had a bottomless deal, however I like this place alot. Will be back again and again!

Cons
ISSUE # 1: We had reservations for 8:30PM for a party of 7. Prior to making the reservations, we told the hostess that 2 out of the 7 would be arriving after everyone gets there b/c it is a surprised dinner for 1 out of the group. We were told that it was fine. We got there at 8:15 and were told we couldn't be seated until the entire party arrives. We told them the importance of being seated before the birthday girl arriving. That concern was disregarded. Anywho, the entire party arrived at 8:25. When we asked to be seated, we were told that no table were available at the moment. What was the point of the reservation then? We didn't get seated until 9PM.

ISSUE # 2: We were seated in their extended part of the restaurant. It was cold, dark and very tight. We were sitting elbow to elbow...LITERALLY!!!

ISSUE # 3: THE FOOD--- I ordered the salmon burger with fries and a side of collard greens---Twah Twah Twah! The collard greens were sweet and lacked flavor. Not sure where the salt and pepper were; the fries were hard and tasted stale; the burger was okay.

ISSUE # 4: Restaurant is just took damn small. There is no waiting area. You have to wait in the front while standing right on top of customer who are trying to enjoy their meal.

Pros
The staff were friendly and respectful. I'm hoping my experience would've been better if I were seated inside.

Today was our first visit at this amazing establishment. We had a reservation & had arrived approximately 20 mins early and they sat us immediately with no hassle. The music playlist was Phenomenal, the service was UNPARALLELED and the food was SUBLIME! We will most certainly be visiting again again.

As someone who grew up in Louisiana, I can attest to the superb taste of their jambalaya and that Mardi Gras drink is incomparable.

Without a doubt, if you are looking for a hearty meal in the wonderful ambience of beautiful black people this is the place to be !

I can assure you that I will become a regular here !

I celebrated my Birthday here with brunch on a Sunday with a small group. The staff was very accommodating and the food was amazing! I highly recommend them for any event or just a Sunday brunch.

I thought the atmosphere and the music (70s, 80s) was relaxing. I ordered fish and chips (fried catfish and they give you a mound of Cajun fries), and 2 sides - collard greens and jalapeno corn muffins (you get 3).
The piece of fried catfish was small but was seasoned nicely and was very good. However, I found it a bit greasy. The Cajun fries, just a light dusting of Cajun seasoning, tasted fresh and good. I loved the jalapeno corn muffins with the sweet butter. Though the collard greens were very good, they were very sweet, so I put a bit of hot sauce on them, that cut some of the sweetness. I gave 4 stars also because no sides came with the meals, we had to pay for each side. On the up side, the sides portions are enough for 2 people. I would recommend this place.

Food is excellent, Lounge is classy, and they make me feel like family. I've been going there for about 6 months and they food never gets old! Their presentation is amazing and they have great quality drinks. On top of that, the live entertainment they have is on point! One of my favorites it Ayre Harmony and Olithea!

The food is good. I love the red Beverly waffles and chicken but y all they had roaches. We complained after seeing one and then another one came through. Worst part, meal was comped ten percent. For two roaches in a period of five minutes. One roach, we had to kill ourselves. It was so gross. I don t have roaches in my home, I don t expect to have two when dining out.

Food was decent. I had the shrimp and lobster with grits and it was tasty. The only annoying part was the fly that bugged us the ENTIRE time.. but that wasn't their fault in the least. I do wish there was a tiny bit more portion but I was starving lol. Prices weren't horrible.

I was so eagerly anticipating my visit to Soco as every one always raves about the food and the ambiance but I was surely disappointed.

I was actually taking my mom to celebrate her 72nd birthday and it was barely 5pm and the music was blaring I get it they want a young trendy audience but sheesh it was even too loud for me so I was glad to be seated out in the indoor/outdoor area slightly away from the music. I did however appreciate the young man playing his violin along to some popular classics if only they could turn it down a notch

On to the food I think we were finally seated around 5. And it was an all day brunch menu which was supposed to be priced at $35 per person but more on that later. So my mom and I got the same thing pecan crusted pork chops with sweet potato puree over a bed of collard greens but I also ordered mac n cheese and a side of collard greens. My daughter ordered wings with some sort of sauce & cornbread.

Ok when the cornbread arrived it looked cold hard and old and it wasn' steaming so I knew it wasn't hot even though the butter was melting. It just appeared that the butter had been heated in the microwave and poured over the cornbread. When my daughter tasted one of the muffins she said it wasn't good and tasted stale and very old.

Next I couidnt wait to dig into my pork chops and when I did I was chewing for days it was like I was chewing on a piece of leather. I barely tasted any crust either and there was an odd vinegar taste I wasn't sure if that was from the cabbage that had been strewn on top or if vinegar had been tossed onto the meat to cover up the fact that it was old. I just stopped eating it as the last thing I needed was to get food poisoning or sick as a result of eating some old pork how insulting to be served some old pork as expensive as the prices are. Really?

That odd bitter pungent taste had also trickled down & permeated through to the sweet potato puree which was under the pork chops and tasted very strongly of vinegar as well and according to my daughter tasted like baby food..Ughhhhh

On to the collard greens which were incredibly overcooked limp soggy sad and had been sprinkled & seasoned with sugar. I didn't understand why they were so overcooked or how they were seasoned my tastebuds were totally confused.

So as I was still hungry I decided to put all my hopes on the mac n cheese one bite of this and I knew the ancestors would be greatly disappointed. Like where do I start first I don't even understand why regular elbow pasta wasn't used vs big spiral pasta & there was way 2 much garlic & truffle oil it & simply did not gel at all. This mac n cheese clearly came from someone's factory there was no auntie or grandmother back there with chunky arms whipping up that mac n cheese as it had no heart n soul whatsoever!!!!

And while the waiter Lucas was good he never not once during the meal came over to ask if everything was okay or if we were enjoying our meal as I surely had an earful for him and was so ready to give him an emphatic No! However, it was extremely difficult to get his attention even when it came time to get the bill we literally lingered an additional 45 mins just waiting to get his attention to get the check. And had he at least came to our table once he would have noticed and seen 90% of two Mac n cheeses still sitting there untouched as well as the corn bread and my 1 pork chop and a half still sitting on the plate. A concerned & attentive waiter would have most certainly inquired as to why so much food was remaining and if we enjoyed our meal....but nope nothing zero no concern at all.

I'm wondering if the wait staff is so used to folks/customers not complaining about the food that they just are conditioned to not check in on clientele which absolutely goes against any food industry/restaurant policy as well as ruined my experience and opinion of the restaurant

However the bill was reduced to 128 because my daughter had ordered a drink but some how the waiter forgot abt the drink & didn't bring it until after we were finished our meal.
