SMOKESTAK Review

Excellent place for food and drinks. Cocktails were really tasty. Food was excellent. Really enjoyed everything (even the things I didn t think I would) and everything came quickly and from very friendly and extremely attentive waiting staff. The whole place was very busy and had a nice bustling atmosphere. Definitely need to book. Try to sit outside if you don t like too much noise.

The worse service ever experienced. Waited 25 - 30 mins for a waiter to come over . Over crowded. Understaffed. I didnt end up eating there. Paid for my drinks and left . Had to ask for the bill 3 times.

This places feels like a proper Texas smokehouse. Given thought that it is in London it feels like it should be in Disney, you know where everything looks rusty and old but is in fact brand new. Food was very good although portion sizes varied. The brisket is a very small portion and not really value for money although tasted delicious. Sides were very good as were starters.

Ate as much of the menu as I could. Everything was really nice but I'll give the pastrami a mention as was easily the best I've ever had. Lager and cocktails very nice too.

Heard so much hype about this place. It was good but not great. Had better smoked and grilled ribs elsewhere. Vegetable dishes were generally better than the meat dishes. The spinach side dish was a bit of a joke.

Great, attentive service, really made to feel welcome. Deliciously smoked pork rib and delectable pastrami. Possibly the best jacket potato that I've ever had and a salad that I actually wanted to eat. Will visit again.

They allow me to change my booking and gave me a seat promptly. Nice decor and ambience. Slightly expensive as the quantity not big. But the quality is nice. All the food are very rich though.

Very busy place, you have to book a table. It's because of the delicious grilled meat they serve! The grilled veggies are also great option to add with your meal.

Lovely staff, well lit tables while still maintaining a dark and cozy ambiance. We had the NYE set menu and each plate was to die for. I thought I had gone to heaven when I took my first bite and I don t believe in heaven.

Excellent food, welcoming staff, consistently excellent ambience. They charge affordable rates and the food quality is great. 5 stars.

I love this restaurant! They provide great meals, their menu is decent, The cook in that spot is very experienced, I like very much eating all their food. The food is consistently of high class, the attitude towards the customers is very good too. I frequently visit this restaurant and I was never unhappy. Highly recommended.

Great food but why was the waitress so rude to us?

The food was super tasty (do not go here if you're on a diet though) and honestly, the beef brisket bun was lush.

The atmosphere and music was pretty cool too, as well as the service from one of the servers. We didn't get his name but he was attentive and polite and friendly. He kinda looked like Kofi Siriboe, maybe?

I have to detract a couple stars for the appalling treatment from one of the other servers. Again, didn't catch her name but she was quite slim, wearing a black hat, had dark hair, a septum ring and hooped earrings, so a fairly distinct look (hoping management reads this and takes this seriously!):

1) She gave us a dirty look and literally rolled her eyes when we asked for tap water (we ordered alcohol afterwards but simply needed more time when she'd asked).
2) She'd half-slam the food down on the table instead of just placing them down like her colleagues did. And never say a word either.
3) She reached over to pick up my finished plate, dropped it and then held her hand out expectantly and gave me an impatient dirty look as if to demand that I give it her - I absolutely would have, and so I did, but why did she have to be SO RUDE about it?
4) We asked if we could take some food away. She didn't acknowledge our request and simply walked off without a word. We were left looking at each other like, 'Did we say something wrong?'. She did eventually come back with a box but it was just weird and cold behaviour. Why wouldn't she just communicate with us properly?
5) At the end she came with a card machine so that we could pay. The reader didn't work. She walked off and said she'd bring the other. We waited a while and then saw her serving other tables instead of coming back with the reader. It was fairly busy so I suppose it's not that bad but after the evening we had with her, it was, again, just a cold and rude and actually quite disrespectful service. I lost count of how many times we thanked her when she came with food or took plates away, but were still treated poorly.

In summary, great food but service was so bad from one the waitresses that it tainted what would have been a really great experience.

melt in the mouth brisket, absolutely fantastic (even decided to forgo dessert and have a second bun instead!). smoked aubergine was also a highlight
we had to wait 20mins to be seated despite having a reservation, but they were soon forgiven once the food arrived!

Highly recommended, the food is brilliant, decent prices, staff is super friendly. Tip: gets really crowded in the evening though so book a table before going!

Insanely good food, perfectly portioned, received excellent, friendly, helpful service, great wine and all round good vibes. Party of 5 people, so we got to try a bit of everything which was ideal.

100% coming back here.

The brisket was SO good, so was everything else! I would have given 5/5, but the sticky toffee pudding wad bit too sugary( I definitely have a sweet tooth). Jacket potato was wao, even the skin tasted very crispy and delicious (yes, I ate the skin as well).

It is dark it is loud it is busy and it is good.
Meat is very tender and has a nice smokey bark to it. If you are in the area then come down and give it a try

Probably the best bbq in London... The beef brisket bun is absolute perfection! The beef ribs were good but not amazing, while the vegetables ironically stole the show for the mains. The interior is really nicely done with an industrial vibe that offers a view of the open kitchen.

Absolutely undoubtedly and ultimately the best meat place I ve ever been to. A must for ever London visit regardless where you re staying or what you re doing here.
The 30-day dry aged beef rib is the single best chunk of beef I ve ever had.
And service was amazing too.

Excellent food but uncomfortable and cramped seating and rushed service

- Rushed service and orders arriving out of sync (had basically finished mine before gfs arrived)
- Toilets not great
- 10+ heat lamps on outside despite nobody sitting there (think about the environment guys!)

Food is really good here! I haven't had quality smoked BBQ in a while. A must do if at Brick Lane for a relaxing and tasty meal. Staff is very helpful with choices as well.

This was the best food I've eaten in a LONG time. The lamb rib was so good I actually cried. 11/10 on flavour, presentation, service, atmosphere, decor etc! There wasn't a single thing that wasn't delicious, even the garnish was worth eating

The food wasn t bad at all, but for me I felt I had tasted similar elsewhere. As it was quite busy, the only option we had was to eat downstairs... which probably added to the negative experience as it was by the toilets. And they didn t even close the door of the toilets so it felt like I was inhaling the air. It wasn t ideal but we did choose to stay. I wasn t blown away but this isn t to say it wasn t decent.

I started with mushrooms on toast with beef dripping. It was much more than the sum of it's parts, and one of the best things I've tasted for ages. The beef brisket was as tender as ever. You hardly needed the knife to cut it. I also had a daikon slaw with lime juice add fish sauce which cut through the richness of the other dishes nicely.

Very cozy environment, you get to relax and talk to your friends.
Beef rip is grilled perfectly, tender, juicy and flavorful. Salad looks colourful and can taste many different flavor.

Ok effort, but dry brisket let the meal down and is inexcusable for a place like this. Also, mustard based sauce is always substandard compared to the vinegar ones. Corn was excellent though. Will not return.

This place was awesome!!! Have had BBQ from all over the states and while this doesn t fit any of the US styles, I put the flavors and tenderness right up there. It is a little on the speedy side but well worth it!!!

Disgusting place. Rude staff, mediocre food, bad management. Don't go there. They treat you in a very bad way.

This place never fails to satisfy the soul. Consistently great food, nice ambiance and friendly staff. Not easy to get a table last minute, so book early if you don't want to chance the walk in. Incredibly tender meat - the brisket is fantastic. The pigs tails may not sound inviting to most (they certainly didn t to me) but you ll not regret trying them. And the sticky toffee pudding is just bang on.

Loved this place. Went with my mates a while back and we ordered a burger each and got the ribs and brisket to share. The burger was incredible and the chiles added a wonderful flavour and same goes for the brisket and ribs. The meat and cooking quality really makes each meal here so special. I also strongly recommend the sticky toffee pudding as it's just silly to not order it. Overall a great place although a bit hard to find - a hidden gem!

Wow, really impressed with this place. Lovely big space but with lots of different areas set around a massive bar/kitchen. Food was fantastic with plenty of vegetarian options that were often as good as, if not better than, the meat options. Lovely meal there and will be back as soon as I am in the area.

This is another of my favourite restaurants in the East. Have been here a few times now and it never disappoints! Try the ox cheek croquettes, brisket rolls and most delicious of all - smoked Welsh rarebit potatoes and smoked kale! Incredible. Great staff too but be sure to book beforehand. Cocktails are potent but amazing.

Whoa! What an awesome spot. I came here on the recommendation of the staff at another excellent spot in Shoreditch and it didn't disappoint. As a solo diner, I really enjoy places with a vibrant full service bar that make me feel welcome. SMOKESTAK is one of those places. The bartender picked three excellent drinks for me and also helped me decide between all of the delicious looking items on the menu. I highly recommend the brisket bun; It was so good that I had to order a second, even though I had other food coming.

Book yourself a reservation, sit at the bar if you can, and be open to whatever they recommend.

Was not sure what to expect for the food- I'm not a big meat eater but I was blown away by this place. Even the veggie options were incredible. The ambiance is amazing- very industrial and all the details pull together so nicely. The downstairs cocktail bar was great while we waited for our table....we were sat 15 min late but it didn't even matter because we were happy waiting downstairs. The drinks were awesome and nicely presented.

The food came out very fast- was well prepared- had a nice presentation and was more filling than it looked! We loved the ox Cheek dish was one of our favorites.

Only down side we felt was that we felt a bit rushed through dinner. We knew they had to turn the table over at 9:45 but because they sat us 15 minutes late we felt like that was a little annoying.

All in All- I will definitely recommend to others and be returning soon!!

Pork ribs and mushrooms on toast were excellent. Portions are a little small and the place can get a little cramped when busy.

Really enjoyed it. Pastrami, brisket and beef rib were all amazing. Smaller plates and drinks also good. Great atmosphere and service.

The best meat place in London. The prices are very reasonable and the meat literally melts in your mouth when you eat it. Recommend going there for lunch as it is much quieter than in the evenings where you won't get a seat.

Sat in their new outside covered area - great for groups of 6, though was cold as big heaters kept turning off. Did the 4for15 deal which was amazing value and really tasty.

A really special find in London! Really great food, cooked to perfection - every single dish was a hit. Smokestak is of course famous for their meat selection, which was delicious, but they executed their vegetable dishes (charred greens & aubergine pictured) perfectly as well.

Set in a dimly lit, industrial-style setting, this place is great for both big groups & more intimate dinners.

A M A Z I N G ! Every, yes every, dish was absolutely delicious. Each dish has been thoroughly developed and the flavour combinations are out of this world. Obviously come for the meat. Everything is so tender and falling off the bone. But you know what they also do excellent sides. Jacket potato rarebit - WHAT? Sweetcorn with fried shallots - YES! AND THE ABSOLUTE BEST STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING!!!! Oh yeah and nice and friendly staff and a super friendly owner! Thanks Dave!

Best BBQ in London. Portions could be bigger or prices could be lower, not sure the latter is an option though. Good website that allows you to book 24/7, good beer, food and service. Beats Bodean s and any of the other bbq places in London.
