Had a great 2-day conference in the Student Center. Beautiful facility!
Had a great 2-day conference in the Student Center. Beautiful facility!
This campus is probably the best one to attend if it isn't too far out of the way. All of my teachers have been amazing with the exception of one of the programming teachers. Small campus makes it pretty easy to get around. Cafeteria isn't to bad either! A benefit of this campus that that everyone vapes, so the air smells kind of fruity
I just enrolled. Great place to get your generals at a cheap cost.
Books need i say more some more than otjers and others cheaper than some....peep it
I love this college! I have graduated in spring 2017 and still taking some classes. College offers very flexible class options. I have managed to work at two jobs while I was at the college. Beautiful library(open late), free access to fitness room, friendly student center, computer center, writing center, cafeteria, tutoring center, etc. Don t hesitate to ask for help if you need it. If you don t like your professors, usually there is an option to sign up for a different one.
This place was amazing and had so much to offer even to myself as a potential but not current student. They had a little bit of everything. Only thing not stellar was the fact it is, in a sense, a convenience store and thus the prices on most of the items are a little steep. Personally though, a lot of the items were unique enough I felt they were worth paying a little extra for.
New Salt Lake City Community College policy ONLY IN MATH "if you average 98 through out the whole math class and you don't score 60 in the final exam then you Fail" WOW what kind of encouragement for students attendance... how is that fair?? Who's moran's idea was it? Is this to make more mony or just to punish students?? Can someone tell me why?
So if I average 96% and then score 50 in the final, I don't pass? Are you kidding yourself outdated SLCC staff??
The teacher I got was really nice, the school layout and try to get things solved is kind of confusing. Also easy able to go to spring semester because they made a mistake on my transcripts and took 2 months to fix.
My cars been keyed twice and I just started here. What am I really paying for? Just to come here and the parking lot is far game for mr car to get vandalized. Aslo the boys locker room needs to be cleaned asap.
Very bad first impression I drove 30miles to come to Taylorsville campus to meet with andsomeone to get started they cancelled with no notification and I paid for parking
I've had a decent time at Salt Lake Community College, but a recent experience has left me less than pleased. I registered for a class that didn't end up being what I needed for my degree. When I went to un-register for the class, well within the time frame needed for full tuition reimbursement, the website did not give me the option to un-register. I went to the academic advisor office, who were also the ones who informed me it wouldn't help with my degree, and they couldn't help me. I informed the registration office, who told me they couldn't do anything and I had to go to the English department head. I went to the English department head, who assured me he would take care of it and un-register me. That never happened. I checked back and I was never given the option in the website to drop the class. I informed the teacher of the class that I would not be taking the class, and they didn't drop me either. It was rather upsetting because now they're saying that in order to get that class taken off my register and to get the charge taken off my account, I need to go through the same steps all over again when it's their mistake, including going and getting a note from the teacher that I never attended the class and contacting the head of the English department. I've decided that in order to finish my degree I'm going to take my money to a different campus. This is just ridiculous.
Campus is big and clean. My son has practices in the gym so I take the opportunity to walk around the campus while he does that.
Volunteers were amaxing and helpful going above and beyond
This school is a great two year college. I enjoyed my courses and didn't have problems with any of my professors. However, the financial aid office is ridiculously unhelpful and rude and they make affording college quite difficult. Additionally, on a total of 3 occasions during my time here I was ticketed for not having a parking pass, even though I did! Each time it was such a hassle to sort out.
I love this school! The small class sizes are wonderful, I have had nothing but fantastic teachers, and it is really cheap! Everything from my peers, to the marketing and involvement of the staff is fantastic. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that the student counselors are 80% pointless, and there is not too many EC clubs. I wish there was a swim team!
This is a small store designed to support the Jordan Campus and courses that are offered here. Nicely laid out clean well stocked.
They give better deals that most places for textbook buybacks.
SLCC has some really great instructors! However, where they lack is in Academic Advising. My advisor wouldn't return emails or phone calls. I am a distance learner, so I made phone appointments & he never honored the appointments. I was UNABLE to get help in advising from SLCC, so I had to resort to calling the advising department of the school that I will be transferring to just so I knew what classes to take at SLCC. I give SLCC instructors 5 stars & SLCC advising 0 stars.
Salt Lake community college has gone down the dumps. They have bought into Pearson and no longer care about the education and the main focus is money. This school sets you up to fail.
Good professors, and beautiful campus for the tuition paid.
My experience here has been mixed. I am taking Associate's classes in Computer Science to help with my career, although I already have a Master's in an unrelated field. Most of my teachers have been fantastic - highly knowledgeable, approachable, and responsive. But there have been two exceptions. In my OOP class, I felt the teacher did not know the material was unable to answer questions effectively, and didn't lecture enough.
The other negative experience I had was with an online class, Intro to Linux. The teacher for this class did not lecture - at all. There were no online meetings, no powerpoints, no review sessions for tests, there was no feedback on any of my assignments. It was a complete waste of money and I am really shocked that it turned out that way. The other online class I took was also weak, but not nearly this bad. I'd recommend to avoid online class if at all possible if you intend to actually learn the material.
This mexicant girl was rude and creepy. I came in and she just kept on staring at me like I was going to steal something it made me so uncomfortable the whole 5 minutes and I asked her what her problem is? She gave me a dirty look and an attitude saying it is her job to stare and keep an eye on theft. I told her I'm not here to steal and so I just left. I wanted to buy a few things but because of people like her I went to shop elsewhere. Don't come here!
Amazing college with affordable prices for tuition. Great teachers, beautiful architecture, landscaping and atmosphere.
Excellent teachers, small class and affordable tuition .
This is a great college. Love the gym and the work out facilities. My kids are attending here.
The teaching method is excellent, the teachers always with the best attitude. The perfect facilities. The progress of my learning is remarkable. I highly recommend her
Started in the Computer Science program, then I switched and completed a Visual Art - Web Design AAS and now I'm finishing up my Computer Science AS so I can transfer to the Weber State University Bachelors program taught through the Redwood Campus. This school does so much that I think a lot of people take things for granted. This is college, not high school where you get gold stars for all of your assignments and a pat on the back. Some people just aren't ready to work at the level necessary to be successful in college. If you have the motivation and determination and take school seriously, I believe anyone can learn to be collegiate level, which is essential if you plan on transferring to a 4 year university. The important thing is no matter where you go, if you don't take your education seriously, your wasting your time and money. I'm happy I was able to get 2 degrees and will probably be able to finish up my Bachelors as well with less student loan debt than if I was to attend any other school in the state and earn only one 2 year degree. SLCC was hands-down the best choice I have made in my adult life.
I think it was fine overall, but the worst part was getting started. I was treated terribly on the phone by almost all of their staff and ran into nothing but snarky remarks and was talked down to a lot. However, once on campus and in person, the staff was nice and helpful overall. The class I took had a good professor and did his best to help us out. But much of the quality, as with all universities, depends on the professor.
Clean
Helpful staff
It s Friday and not everything is open/available
Took over an hour at the student center to answer a 2 minute question.
Well my experience with the school is alright. The problem I have is with the financial aid people. I've been trying to get my financial aid since I've started school. I am now half way through school & nothing. I'm falling behind in my class because I do not have the textbooks that I need. I do not have the money for textbooks. It has been the most frustrating experience I've had. I am 24 years old & they still require me to have mama or papa's tax return like if I'm a minor. I find it absolutely ridiculous. I've came very close to just dropping out because I feel embarrassed that I don't have my textbooks or the funds for my textbooks. There has been nights where I break down over it. Every time i turn in a form they require A new one pops up. Like I said before I am halfway done with my semester & I still have to wait one to two weeks to see if they need anymore paper work. Let me remind you summer semester is 8 weeks long & I am halfway through with no textbooks & still have to wait another two weeks. So I'll get my books the last two weeks of the semester. Thank you slcc for the lovely experience. Damn experience has nearly driven me mad. So a little word of advice for those who plan on signing up make sure they approve your Financial aid before you start any classes or you will fall behind.
great campus, plenty of parking. good location. dropped one star as there have been times I have been concerned about campus safety. overall a good rating though
Testing center construction is ridiculous, during testing there was continuous drilling into walls and other extremely loud noises. I could tell I was not the only one annoyed/distracted by this. I don t know how they see that it is acceptable to continue construction during testing hours.
For they most part they have what you need if you have time shop around before buying here
A community college is exactly what this place is. Don't expect much in the way of amenities, or the like. The place has the feel of a big high school, with older kids. But the price is right, and the schedules accommodate most any work schedule.
As a SLCC student, this place has saved me trouble several times in the last few years! I often forget pencils, stationary, or occasionally chargers or wall fobs and this place pretty much always has what I need at a good price. Staff so far has also been pretty nice to me as well! Sometimes you can find things a bit cheaper elsewhere, but I d rather pay more for the convenience and to support my school! Nice place!
I enjoyed my educational experience with Salt Lake Community College. The class schedules are set up in a way that allows anyone to attend at almost any time. I worked full time and attended part time for most of my schooling and it was great.
Everything from financial aid to admissions to parking is a joke. This place has the worst case of bureaucracy I have ever seen. Any time you ask someone a question they tell you they cant help you and to ask someone else. I went back and forth between financial aid, advisors, and admissions a million times because they didn't know the answer or they weren't allowed to answer my questions. Countless holds on my account with financial aid which screwed up me being able to sign up for the classes I needed to. They would tell me I was awarded funds and then all of the sudden I try to register for classes online and there are holds on my account and late fees. Nobody would notify me either which was really infuriating. I would ask financial aid if there was anything else I needed to do and they would say no and that I was awarded x amount. Later would get alerts and holds because a paper wasn't filled out or this or that. I got late fees for mistakes that the financial aid office screwed up on! I ended up saying screw it and payed my tuition out of my savings account!! Parking police are nazis and gave me a ticket while I was going into the Student building to buy a pass. When i told them what had happened they didn't care and still made me pay the ticket!! Ridiculous. The tutors are hit or miss. Half of the tutor staff have no idea what they are doing or what material is being covered in physics and calculus and will give you wrong answers or just confuse you further and waste your time. Don't get me wrong some were good and helpful but you never know which one you will get and its hard to go there and waste your time hoping that the good tutor will come to you. The teachers are also hit or miss and good luck getting one that is good because they will only teach at one time and everyone books their classes as soon as registration starts. After 2 semesters I am finally saying screw it and am applying to the U because this place sucks big time. Only reason why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because their gym is awesome. Racquetball, basketball, and two rooms with all the machines and weights you would ever need.
One of the best college ever!!!!!! Advisors are very friendly and helpful. There are materials and the joy a person need to success at slcc and everybody is willing to help each other.
Cool place where you can get all sorts of stuff, even laptops.
I have previous BA from the University of Utah. I'm just at SLCC to take a few classes. I couldn't disagree with negative reviewers (like Christopher Abell from last month) more. I'm extremely impressed with the quality, cost, and support here at SLCC. I wish I'd gotten an associate's degree here first; that would've saved me a lot of money.
The Worst college in the state of Utah. Horrible staff. Beware of the low class woman BULLIES who work in the W.Jordan testing center! They will treat you like a piece of garbage and humiliate you in front of everyone. I was very pregnant and it was summer semester. I used to like this college but it has gone downhill. The addition of the testing center I thought would be great but the "ladies" that work there were anything but that. They were vicious and rotten. I simply told them I wanted to take my test and told them my name, and they made a very irritated face and let out a scowling sigh and scoffed at me " UM OKAY.. WHAT TEST?! Why are you coming in here unprepared? you don't even know what class you are in?! hah! " They treated me as if I was an idiot and not a human being. I hate confrontation. Completely rotten and hateful people running this place! I got very defensive because I have the right to stick up for myself and my unborn baby! I told the old mean "lady" to learn some manners and the other younger looking very plain jane snotty girl rolled her eyes at me and started giggling and whispering in a catty manner to the other old lady when I was waiting for my class mates to get there to take their tests as well so I could warn them to make sure they can read minds and know exactly what to say so they don't get humiliated and treated like a piece of trash like I had just been. When I stuck up for myself they all ganged up on me. The 3 invalids that work there all ganging up on me while I'm almost 9 months pregnant all because I DIDN'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO ASK FOR? ALL BECAUSE I COULDN'T READ THEIR MINDS and know that so many people have been irritating them to the point they have to have a chip on their shoulders any time a new student walks in not knowing exactly what to ask for and tell them exactly the course number and test number it was? I didn't know.. And it shouldn't have mattered. No other SLCC testing center did things that way. They were all helpful and kind. Great customer service but this place, no not at all. I was hoping after I stuck up for myself but sadly to say I just found out from a few of my friends that they are still demeaning and major BULLIES and they have a very bad reputation on campus. Anyways, the "lady" that sits in the office in the back she was very mean, meaner that the older "lady" that originally was mean to me. She was so fake. She kept trying to use bull.Sh* psychosocial tactics on me saying fake things like " I can appreciate how upset you are, but that woman who talked to you like that, she just is so fed up with students coming in here and not knowing which test they are taking, she has a good heart and you had no right to be upset the way you did. However they weren't treating you bad, even though I can appreciate that you might take it that way" on and on and on.. Slap in the face after slap in the face! They gave me such a horrible day that day I quit my schooling at SLCC. I hated that college. I transferred and finished somewhere much more professional and grateful to their students who bring them business and actually care about their students. This place does not at all. It's a joke. I was told by another student that a teacher grabbed her arm and told her to pick up a tissue she had accidentally dropped. I would say that was grounds for battery.. In the medical world you are taught to never touch another person without permission or you can be sued. My sweet husband helped me transfer to phoenix after I came home that day crying to him about how humiliated I was and the anxiety it caused me. Those 3 bullies made me no longer have any respect for all of SLCC and the teachers I was growing to respect. When they did that to me I felt like SLCC did that to me. It's sad that someone can be so old and still not know how to treat another human being. What a wasted life. What sad unhappy woman trying to bring others down with them. What a bitter shame. There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women.
The staff tend to be very helpful and willing to assist. The instructors (for the great majority) are very...warm. They are passionate, they make themselves very available, and are very down to Earth. I wish SLCC could expand to getting a Bachelor, because I'm going to miss it once I transfer.
Go to a library stop buying over priced books written by professors that think they know all.
It's pretty good for a College book store.
One word of caution; if you plan on reselling your books back, make sure you don't miss the small window of time to do so. If you wait more than one semester, the book may be too old, and they may not take it for trade towards new books.
Our Son has taken a few classes there, and he seemed to like it.
He is now going after his Bachelor degree, and we have found that renting books (we usually get ours from Amazon) is a much better option.
Also, if the Professor will allow it, you can pay for individual lessons as you go.
But back to the SLCC book store. They have always treated us very well, and are extremely helpful with figuring out what you may need for classes they offer. Remember, SLCC is a two year College, and as far as I know, dose not offer 4-year degrees.
We attended an event here For my daughter's graduation,it was hotter than hell, the seats were the most uncomfortable I have ever sat in and to top it off the ada access was poor
Takes a while to get books in stock, but Jose is a great and helpful worker.
Great teachers, great classes. Super cost effective if you're looking to get stuff done before transferring to a University. But, they have the worst website I have ever used. They still use portals which are super messy, hard to learn and they look horrible. It's completely overwhelming. The online courses use Canvas, which is also a confusing and outdated website. Whenever I call any place, I get transferred a million times. No one on the campus, that isn't a teacher, knows what they are doing. The entire thing is a giant mess. The bookstore at the Jordan campus is the worst. They never answer their phones during their open hours. I would avoid going to the campus at all costs and try to do as many online classes as you can.
Awful experience. I actually give zero stars but it won't let you post with zero! Instead of advising me at the beginning of the semester when financial aid is DUE, they told me ONE MONTH before spring semester ended that my financial aid didn't cover my classes and that I owed them a few thousand dollars within the next week!!! Stressed out and angry I called the financial aid office and asked them for help and what I needed to do. The person I spoke to said and I quote! "I don't have an answer for you." Thanks for screwing me over, my credit, and my future! Never going back there again.
Decent community college. Buildings are aging quickly, but the school is trying to provide quality opportunities for students who might not otherwise be able to attend college. Like most schools, you get out of it, what you put into it.
Couldn't ask for a better way to get my associates degree. I needed a school that was: affordable, had some online classes, worked with my schedule and my life, and would help me get started after a few years of being away from school. And Salt Lake Community College is giving me that currently. My friends are all getting into debt and having a hard time working their school and work schedule into the limited time they have each day. I will never have that problem. I have moved around the Salt Lake County, and found there is always a campus close to where I love. Couldn't be happier with Salt Lake Community College, thank you.
I can t believe some of the classes that they have here. My GF had a class here last year called Dance or something like that.. it s supposed to be some kinda of cultural class teaching you about different cultures. She told me one of the things the teacher focused on was teaching the students how white people come from a privileged culture. Neither me or my GF are white and we both find this somewhat shocking. Idk if that was the teacher trying to force her views on these young students that don t know any better or if the course actually teaches that.. either way it s disturbing and I would never want my children exposed to b.s. nonsense like this ever!
It was nice, they have some cool stuff. Its a little spendy though
Today Ekamai at the Student Center in Salt Lake Community College made me this wonderful lunch.
Great venue to watch the jazz rookies play ball for the stars
Mainly the info desk but the girl there was super nice!! Answered the questions I had
Do not trust advisers they will try to take you millions of classes you dont need. Their libraries are useless 30 minutes trying to log in i to a computer. Printing services have dated softwares. Come on slcc
Terrible school. Terrible professors and even worse staff.
Great little campus and not a decent community college.
I would like to see the summer schedule for general studies.
Easy to navigate, but under construction. Kinda screws it up a bit
Salt Lake Community College, or "slick" as we call it around here, is a great college and from what we have seen it produces great graduates in many of its programs. As a law firm we are not exposed to a significant variety of candidates from SLCC for positions here, but many of us have interacted with students or graduates and have been very impressed.
It is great to have SLCC and its various campuses around!
