I've been to this place dozens of times, I don't know why I even bother coming back. Always the same.
1. Sub- par service. Ive never been here and had good service.
Most recently brought a group of 10+ people here for happy hour and asked for them to put some tables together for us on the rooftop and they refused. Said for us to sit that there would be a 500 dollar minimum and that we all had to order dinner. Absolutely crazy considering we brought people for a birthday party at 5Pm. We ended up pushing some tables to get her by the bar ourselves while staff watched.
2. Overpriced food
3. You come here for the view but there's always construction happening that basically ruins the view of the water

Such a great atmosphere. But if there s one thing I can take away from it all. Erik was awesome. Gave a great experience even tho it was absolutely packed. He was the only reason I d come back.

Bar service aside.... Amazing venue for a young crowd/ college night out. Expect to wait a long time for drinks. Best off ordering a lot of drinks at once, the bartenders are pretty inattentive

Sign of the Whale has a great and beautiful atmosphere. Located in Harborview, it is in a new neighborhood full of energy nearby the water. The staff is great and very friendly. The bartenders are great at their jobs as well and know how to give a good time. Highly recommend it for lunch, dinner, or hanging out at the bar.

My friends and I went for Disney Movie Trivia and I ordered a Whale Burger. I mostly ordered this due to the fact that this seemed to be the item with the most bang for your buck. I think the apps and small plates were a little overpriced based on the pricing of my burger (with egg, bacon and gruyere cheese) and fries. I will say that the burger was definitely worth every penny, it was DELICIOUS. However, I was not impressed with the service. One member of my party arrived before the rest and he said it took 20 min before someone had come to check on him. No one, to my knowledge, officially introduced themselves as our waiter. The service was intermittent. (And before anyone says anything, it wasn't super crowded at all, it was a Tues night). The other weird thing was that the happy hour menu was a) only available at the bar and b) there was no list of the alcoholic bevs or food items that were available at happy hour price. All in all, the food seemed unique and appetizing but I would go with the expectation of the above. Not awful by any means but definitely room for improvement.

Nice for networking event or low key evening or afternoon, but I do not like when it is a packed place. To me, it is not worth it. The food was good on the occasions I ate there. I think it's better to keep it classy not sloppy.

My favorite bar in Stamford. The food is awesome, cocktails are good and the rooftop is amazing, it has some games and giant jenga, its spacious and has some great views. I will be back here again without a doubt, really enjoyed it.

I use to tell people I hated this place (no Guinness served at the rooftop), but I came here for brunch and it changed my mind. Mimosas are really good here, but could be more bottomless. Recommendation: serve a mimosa with a shot of raspberry Stoli. It is as girly as it sounds. However, tastes amazing.

Came in with my service dog and presented them with my ID. Was told I could not come in. Manager and staff made a really big deal out of it, embarrassed me and even made me discuss my personal medical conditions.

This is against the law!!! 100% illegal, and are lucky I am not suing.

Managers reasoning as to why I couldn t bring in my service dog was because a regular dog took a number 2 and they received 30 bad YELP reviews .

ZERO stars

My husband and I went out the other night for the first time in a while. We weren t in the mood for anything in particular and just knew that we wanted atmosphere and good food. After doing a little google search, we came across the Sign of More

Pretty good drinks, few tasty plates. Definitely the best rooftop bar in Stamford. Popular for happy hours after work and drinks/going out on weekends. Expect an ok beer selection and decent cocktails. They've started to have some pretty interesting specials but the service is hit or miss.

This used to be one of my fave spots in the summer but then it kinda just nose dived through the years. Last time we were here we weren't seated as we pleased because they said all the window-side tables were "reserved for brunch." It was past 3:30. I ordered a glass of sparkling wine and it took 20 mins. for the server to bring it to the table. She said it was because she had to fetch it from the bar upstairs. Whatever that means. I would have gone up myself and poured it in 3. My lobster rolls were blah and by the time we got our food (and not simultaneously) of course me and my friends were already ticked off. Great location and concept but what a way to treat customers. Just sad...

Sign Of The Whale is the place to be! Nice dance floor(well we made one lol) decent response time for drinks on a fast night(the bartender gives women drinks faster). And the DJ was legit! I recommend this spot if you're with a group of friends and wanna just have fun. This spot isn't an intimate location and isn't best suited for dates. The roof is an exception but there is always a long wait time to get up there when it is packed.

Run! Don t walk to Sign of the Whale! I went the other night with a few friends to get a couple drinks and were just planning on some small snacks/apps.. but as we sat there talking I couldn t help but pour over the menu. My mouth was watering. There are so many different kinds of foods on the menu that I almost couldn t decide. The crispy eggplant caprese, the bbq beef empanadas, and the steamed mussels were just so good. For entrees we had the Berkshire pork chop, the lobster, and the four spiced burger.. we all decided to share everything bc it all looked amazing. I have never had a burger so delicious and unlike any burger I have tried before. Hands down the best one I ve had in a long time. Service was just ok, but the views and the food make up for that. I ll be back again real soon.

I can t believe how poor of a service that this restaurant provides. I ate here with a few people and got nasty attitudes from both servers and manager! This will be the last time I eat there as well recommending this place to my friends and family.

Easy_on_easy_off from exit 7 of i_95 (Connecticut turnpike) in the harbor point development that has transformed the south end of Stamford. Everything in the area is "top shelf" and its like a "city_within_a_ city type development that has totally gentrified this once neglected part of town. This is all in walking distance from the main downtown area and the train station. I had the feeling like I was in an upscale, exotic European locale the whole time I was there. The excitement around this " Soto" (south of town) area of Stamford is palpable and is showing no signs of going away.

Some whales have such well-developed hearing that they can survive even if they can't see. Conversely, if they are blind they have to rely on the Sign of the Whale.
3/5 because the beer was expensive and too many people were wearing boat shoes.

I only gave two stars because I do like the food but it s over priced for what they give and i m
absolutely not eating here after hearing how they treat their guests, management is rude and they do not deserve my money or anyone else s.

Bartender downstairs had unwelcoming look and no greeting when we approached the bar. Ordered 2 drinks that came immediately. We we're happy with our drinks. After a few minutes we had a question about another drink and he had a major attitude and didn't even answer the question. 20 minutes later he told us we couldn't hang out at the bar. When I told him the manager told us too because we we're waiting for a table he said couldn't read my mind with major theatrics!

Food was good not great, service under par for the prices they charge. I don't mind paying for good food drinks and service. Not received and I spoke to the Manager and he didn't seem to care either.

Horrible service , it took us 50 minutes to get a food for of four , When we when we got our food it was cold, the waitress was sweet but never check to see if we ever needed anything, we had to wait for our silverware even though we asked for if prior to the food coming, we had to wait for the bill so long we went downstairs to the main area to pay, then the waitress flew down the steps only waiting for tip reallllly!! Keep away horrible food and definitely overpriced!!!!

I just visted SOTW for dinner recently when my wife s family came to town and I ll tell you- the food was AMAZING. We both work in the restaurant industry so needless to say we are very critical of the overall experience when we go out, it s just second nature. We were kind of just looking for someplace fun, on the water with some half way decent food.. but I must say this place probably has some of the best tasting food in all of Stamford. Everything we ordered was good. We started with the whipped local ricotta with white truffle oil & honey drizzle.. as well as nonnas veal meatballs. These appetizers were so good that I would consider ordering a double order for my entree! For dinner I had peppercorn crusted burger with red wine onion marmalade, black pepper mayo- this is a melt in your mouth kind of burger. Our only complaint was the waitstaff wasnt knowledgeable when it came to certain menu ingredients, but that s an easy fix with a little training. Our hats off to the chef of this establishment! The menu was diverse and everything we ate was cooked well and tasty. We will be coming back for sure.

Lovely place! The server was so friendly and kind. She was attentive and quick. We went on a Wednesday over lunch and the place was not busy at all. The menu is good for lunch and the prices are reasonable. The booths were comfy and lots of natural light. Def would go back.

FALSE ADVERTISEMENT ON THE HAPPY HOUR

FALSE ADVERTISEMENT ON THE HAPPY HOUR
I went to this place with a budget in mind and planned to have 4 mixed drinks since it says mixed drinks $5 during happy hour. I started with a long island ice tea and the bartender asked if i wanted to start a tab i said yes and handed her a $20. She said the first drink was $20 and i took that as a joke as it was happy hour and who's even ever heard of a $20 drink? I then have 2 white Russians and an appetizer and get a bill for another $20. They charged me $7 for the other drimks! There was no place in the happy hour menu that says it only applies to certain drinks and yes i was there at 5pm durring the happy hour time. Never going to this ripoff place again!!!!

Ordered a risotto. Got a bunch of mussels that they didn't even rinse with water. The sand squeezing on the teeth was strong. The worst risotto I ever had in my life. So if you are planning to have some good food - look some place else. Sometimes they get a good DJ on Fridays, place is filled with kids getting drunk. So I'd give them a single point for that.

Terrible, food terrible, management awful. They don't know what they're doing. Servers are slow and the managers can't compensate. It's a terrible establishment for what's in the area. Try elsewhere!

My friends and I planned earlier in the week to have brunch at this spot. We called ahead and asked questions including if we need a reservation we were told no. We got there and was told that they were completely booked, while my friends and I stood there and saw a few empty tables, moreover we were told we could only go upstairs for drinks but no food. We decided to leave and on our way out a group of caucasians females got seated. Disappointed!

Sign of the Whale is the place to go for brunch. I went for a birthday brunch and they have a set menu for groups of 12 or more. It s $20 and includes two appetizers. It s $22 additional for bottomless mimosas. There s a free parking garage right around the corner. Reservations are definitely recommended because this restaurant is very popular basically all times of the day and week. Also, there s several vegetarian/vegan options!

Was a little weary of visiting this place after reading all the negative reviews. However, only wanted to stop by for an afternoon beer so decided to give it a go anyway. Situated in Harbor Point which seems to be the chic and modern neighborhood of Stamford, Sign of the Whale definitely has the potential to be a great spot. Although the surrounding construction does hinder the ambience a bit its not an absolute deal breaker. We sat on the sprawling rooftop for a nice cold beer on a sunny saturday afternoon and the place was largely empty. Music was loud without being obtrusive and the whole vibe was quite enjoyable. There is a large downstairs section as well. Seating on the terrace was a combination of bar stools, couches and tables with high chairs. I got the impression that the place could quite easily handle a big crowd as well. Worth checking out for sure.

I like the restaurant and the food is great but be very careful of the clientele. We attended a private event here recently and a regular bar patron came into our private room and stole debit card and other items from a purse. Sign of the Whale has been helpful with identifying the thief but I would have hoped there would have been better security from the onset. The location, food, DJ and event space was excellent. They do need to add additional security before I would have another event here.

Staff Very attentive and go out of their way to make it a good experience for you. I have been going there for 4 years for happy hours/lunch/and late night. Best time to go is spring/summer because you got the roof. Hoping no more tall buildings go up around SOTW due to sun coverage on rooftop bar.
