Went to dinner there last night with my parents and my husband. We started with oysters and calamari. The Oysters were very fresh! The calamari was crispy. I was torn between getting a Whale Burger, but was swayed by my mother who wanted to share the meat platter. I was very happy I switched! The meat platter had sausage, chicken, a pork chop and steak, along with potatoes and broccoli. Every type of meat was cooked to perfection! I was really pleasantly surprised how well executed everything was. Every bite was juicy and flavorful! Our overall experience was great, the staff was friendly and everything was well timed. I would highly recommend dining at Sign of the Whale!

Our waiter Matt was very friendly and attentive. He was kind enough to inform me that the shot my dad ordered was $47! The food was delicious and the DJ listened to my dad s request and played some Bob Marley.
Great place, great service, food was okay, nothing special. Pretty expensive. Don't mind expensive places, but the food has to be top quality. The food here was not. Ill be back for the drinks and atmosphere. Not the food.
I ve enjoyed their food here before but after hearing from my daughters how they treated her friends I am very upset and disappointed with the service. I will NEVER give them my money
Average white boy bar! Staff was on point though, crowd was good. 11 dollar drinks which is over priced not to be in the City but that is becoming the normal in N.Y. If your tired of the " La la Land " called White Plains you will love it.
Not even worth 1 star! I basically went in for a night out with a friend. As we were on the rooftop we had ordered drinks and the bartender who claimed to be the manager was the rudest, most disrespectful non-professional I'd ever met. He basically watered our drinks down and then when we asked him to remake them he then gave us a snide remark and walked away with his hoody on like some sort of thug. I asked to then have 2 other drinks (way overpriced) which we paid for and his attitude was atrocious, I asked for the managers name thereafter and coincidentally he said he was one of them. What a Strange thing! To have a manager behave like a 16 year old who doesn't like his job. Overall this is not the place to go if your looking for good service and hospitable people. I could spend money elsewhere to be treated like a decent person. Also, the music is so loud you cant hold a decent conversation with anyone. They need NEW management!! Stay far away from here!!!
Rooftop experience is the best in town currently. Has a great view! Love to get drinks and hang out at night (if the line doesn't make it impossible to get in that is!)
My coworkers and I were pretty excited to get a break from work and we chose sign of the whale for the rooftop seating. There were 8 of us, which isn't a huge party in my opinion. We get there and it takes about 20 minutes for the waitress to actually take our food order, but we were willing to overlook that. After over a half an hour our food was no where in sight. We had to get up and find the waitress, who informed us that a large party had ordered right before us but ensured that our food would be out in 10 minutes. 15 minutes later still nothing. We walk downstairs to see this "large party" and the entire restaurant has 15 people, tops. Though we do run into another group that tells us they had been waiting an hour as well. At this point we had been here for at least an hour, and in this entire time no one has come over to us and apologized for the delay. I go to find the waitress one more time and tell her my concern and that if we cannot get our food in 1 minute we're leaving. She goes to the kitchen to check on it and comes back and tells us 10 more minutes. All we had ordered were burgers and wings, it should not have taken this long. When I tell her we're leaving she says she'll go get our drink bill, I looked at her shocked and asked if she really expected us to pay that. At that point she goes downstairs and has the manager comp them off the bill. We quickly left but one of my friends was so hungry that on our way out he ate leftover fries off a plate at an empty table. That's what the service at Sign of the Whale drives you to do.
I worked in the restaurant business as a server and I have always had the most patience for servers because of this, I know that a lot of what happens is not their fault. But this was ridiculous. 1 hour and 45 minutes later we left hungry and agitated. In that entire time the server never came to our table and updated us, we had to track her down every time. In that entire time the manager never came out and apologized to us. And in the end they did not even offer any compensation for what had happened and expected us to pay.
There is no excuse for a restaurant that can't handle a lunch rush of 20 people.
Obviously I will never be dining at Sign of the Whale again.
Food was pretty good, the drinks were great although a little pricey. Rooftop view was nice, but with all the construction in the area that view will be gone soon.
The ambiance was phenomenal, the food however was down right horrible..... too much salt in practically everything. The desserts were nothing special. The music was awesome.....very expensive night for just good music.
It doesn't know if it is a night club or an expensive restaurant, it seems like night club would be better for them. Food was okay, drinks were okay, over all it was expensive and the waiter didn't care to check on us. Not great but it is a cool area.
Restaurant called to confirm reservation, and when we arrived, they were out of food. They showed no sympathy and had not made an effort to communicate in advance that they may be out of food. Timing left us with little to no options for alternatives. Bad service. Wasteful of time.
Stunning neighborhood, outstanding design with contemporary flavor that's some of the sexist yet this side of L.I.& Hamptons.
What could be improved is the food. Portion size or reducing it's cost. Heineken bottle varied??? In cost between which bar you went to??? and servers who when given $10 for Beer walks away after handing you a beer 16mins later that's now warm?
O.k. wack AF.
Go for the views and eye Candy trendy crowd but remind your servers it's about service.
I really enjoyed this place for a quick lunch break bite, we sat at the bar ordered beers and burgers, one of my co-workers had the buffalo tacos which she liked a lot, my other co-worker ordered a burger with a fired egg on it.. but they forgot the egg, they brought an egg out from the kitchen on a plate which was a little weird but everyone makes mistakes here and there so over all it was an enjoyable experience.
Food is fantastic, and bar staff is friendly and adheres to COVID safety guidelines! Dave and Laura are the best and will always welcome you at the bar!
The food amazing. I ordered a lobster it was delicious!!! The pizza was to die for. The staff was really friendly. Cool vibes. But the drinks were not so great. Good ice cream. Security guards were really nice. Also they only played techno.
I walked into this place around 4:45 pm wich is suppost to be "happy hour" on a monday, i ordered a beer (draft) and a small plate (chicken wings) . The bartender with a bad actitud (looked like he wasn't happy to have me there) took my order, after i was done with my food and drink I asked my check so when I looked at the check this "gentlement" is charging me the regular full price. I knew it was "happy hour" and at the same time I knew he wasn't happy to have me there making business in this place, He thought i was stupid to not realize he charged me the regular price. I didn't make a big deal to ask this guy why is charging me regular price so I payed my check and I even tip him. He either thought he is smarter or probably he wasn't happy to see me there but all I can ask is a better actitud or at least don't screw people just because you have a bad day or maybe tired and APPRECIATE people that comes to your door to spend their money. I won't go back over there from now on and you guys better hire people that loves customer service more that loving people's money. Shame on you!!!!
If you are looking for a culinary delight- SOTW should be your first stop in Stamford. I am familiar with its Chef- Walter Estrada, whose career I have taken note of. He was a chef at the award winning Telluride, and Napa & co. I enjoy his style bc it is a melding together of different culinary styles. I go often- as not only is the food delicious, but the views are beautiful. My one critism would be to offer more of a variety of higher end wines to conplement the menu.
The rooftop bar seems exciting until you realize you're surrounded by apartment buildings with no really good view or natural elements. I want to enjoy a drink, not spy on someone's apartment across the way.
This was a wonderful location for a going away party for my sister and brother in law. My 4, 2 and 4 month old kids enjoyed watching the street traffic out the windows
Had to wait 45 minutes after our reservation time to be seated at our table on the roof. In the meantime we had drinks at the bar which were very, very expensive :-(
Let me start by saying the restaurant is very nice and the view from upstairs is as well!. I ordered the "Four Spice Burger" (I believe that was the right title" and i was not pleased! Not a single HINT of spice on the burger which also tasted like a burger you can buy at Big Y as well as the fries so I was disappointed in my meal which was $14.
The service wasn't the best they charged us for water, we asked since they gave us bottled waters which we thought was strange and it wasn't until I asked and she said "due to Covid we cant serve tap water" and why couldn't she start off telling us that I don't but I also I've never heard a waitress say "hey our other reservations are waiting for this table there's no rush but we need to clean up" which was worse seeing as there was a LARGE number of tables empty downstairs and outside I guess our table was requested by Taylor Swift. She also didn't seem to care much nor ask us if we wanted dessert.
And this last section is not even my experience but my friend who ordered a chicken entree that came with the SMALLEST "Side" amount of mash potatoes I've ever seen in my life that even a child would want more and when we asked the same waitress what in the world is that about she said "oh it's meant to be spread on" yet there was barley ANY to spread, then we politely asked for an adult sized portion.
Like I understand it's in a uppity area and it's by the water so for them they always have business but dam they can do so much better if they give a dam, I only gave it two stars because it looked dope and the roof top was nice to be on.
Unbelievably Incredible! The Calamari was Delicious. I split the Meat dish for 2 with my buddy Jay. Lots of great flavors. The Chicken was to die for, the Pork Chop and Steak were Excellent. The Sausage was amazing as well. We had Erica as our server, and I have to say in my 49 years of living, She was one of the GREATEST, knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, funny. If ever in Stamford, I would highly recommend this restaurant .
