Great brunch. Attentive hostess to our large party.
Great food, good service. Seems like a place for after work crowds coming back from the city and local businesses. A bit pricey for such small portions but absolutely delicious.
I was excited to have a birthday celebration here. After several emails going back and forth with the event planner Nina, she assured me that my event would be all set and taken care of. After arriving, my party and I were told we did not have a reserved area, in fact, she knew nothing of said event. After being somewhat dismissive to my party, I insisted on speaking with her in regards to the emails sent just a week prior. She then came back with printed emails of our conversation saying i never confirmed. Which was not true. She and I spoke via email again the same week of my event. She tried to redeem herself by setting things up last minute. However, the entire experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I didn t appreciate her being so dismissive of my party and trying to put the blame on me when the blame should ve fallen on Nina and her assistant. I made the best of my night but I wouldn t consider attending or hosting an event here in the future.
Racist and show no concern to issues. Too expensive and poor customer service?
Just so many issues. No hostess available. Took forever to get our drinks. Happy hour doesn't consist of much, well liquor and soda doesn't count as a mixed drink apparently.
Had the empanadas and soup of the day. Both were really tasty. Server was attentive.
Don t come here for brunch. We waited 45 minutes for the waiter to take our drink order. There were 2 waiters that were serving 15-20 tables. I don t usually complain about service but this was particularly bad for the prices they were charging. I will never come here again. $22 bottomless and I got 2 drinks in 2 hours. Horrible all around.
Great service, friendly bartenders, and comfortable environment!
It's decent enough, little bit geared, or patronized by the wanna be yacht preppy rich youngsters, but the did I've had had been quite good.
Nice area , staff was sitting around eatting food. The music was very loud so was the jazz band. The food was good but was not fully cooked but I sent it back and it was better! The best part was the lollipop exiting the restaurant .
Beautiful area in the warmer months. Rooftop area / bar with beautiful views! Love to walk along the harbor ... especially when the city has art shows ... no charge but parking can be difficult on show days.
Been here for 3 hours...still havent gotten my food. That's crazy. Water with no straw, my back hurts from these sests, my boss is throwing flame at me. An all around bad experience. No seriously the chairs...are really bad.
Is zero stars possible? I have lived in Stamford for many years and have been to basically every bar in the area. This is by far one of the trashiest bars I have ever visited. The music and views are good, but that's it. I have many issues with the establishment, but perhaps my main issue is that the security there is terrible. They do nothing, and I have watched security walk away from fights instead of breaking them up. I have watched individuals be jumped by groups, I have seen fights on so many occasions I can't count them on two hands (despicable). I have watched innocent bystanders try to break up a fight and be assaulted by 10+ people. I have seen people have their noses and jaws broken for just being there and saying the wrong thing to the wrong person. I have seen pretty much everything you do not want to see at this establishment. It's a hangout for thugs and wannabe gangbangers. And you know what's worse than the security? The police. They don't do a thing. They are lazy and incompetent. It's a joke. A JOKE! Patrons be ware. There are dozens of other places you can go to without having to feel intimidated where the bouncers will actually protect you, instead of encouraging and and turning a blind eye to things that should never happen to anyone. My two cents. Take it for what it is worth
Hopping place for a Wednesday night. Bar area was crowded and noisy but we sat in the other room which was much quieter. Food was very tasty. We had small plates.
Good service nice people with a nice breeze off the water.
Nice place to grab a casual dinner and drinks. Has some TVs in case a game is on.
Outside deck was very nice during the evening. Drinking in the sun and cool night was good time. Food was good. Nothing over the top but enough to enjoy during the allowed 90 minutes.
Farts and young drunkards abound in this fake baked tan bar.
Super patient and friendly service with excellent food to boot. Recommended!
What can I say? Until now, it's in my list of the best places I went. Great in everything, especially the waitress Erica.. She was amazing.
Noticed that my review wasnt posted. Here it is again. First time going there with my family for a party and it was not a pleasant experience. I asked the server for their vegan options and I was told I was going to be brought a separate menu. Did not get it for about 45 minutes while everyone else was getting ready to order. I then ordered my vegan meal and received it with an egg on top. I was told thats how it came and of course I wasn t going to eat it so I sent it back.
Later on we noticed that the server had stolen sunglasses from us and returned them when the manager was asked for. We called the manager, Erick Johnson, and were treated with no respect. He hung up on us multiple times and showed no concern for our recent experience with his employee.
He is racist and unprofessional and I will never be going back there.
There are many places in Stamford and around the area who will treat you with respect and are wayyy cheaper.
Even though they didn't seem understaffed (more staff visible than patrons), the service made it feel like they were understaffed. It took about 20 minutes for someone to come over after being seated to take out drink orders, after having to ask 3 staff who or server was. Food and drinks were great though! Would consider going again to see if the service lapse was just a glitch.
Love it! Great food! Nice atmosphere! Love the rooftop
Went here for brunch. Nice place but very noisy. They had a DJ playing and we really couldn't talk.
Stopped by after work on a Friday, extremely crowded and not my type of people, mostly young professionals but seemed like an uptight crowd. The space itself is nice but I don't plan on returning.
Food was good. Service solid. Had the crispy sal mom and liked it a lot. Note that the portion was smaller than I thought. Others ordered other items which were larger. Everyone enjoyed their food. Also had the I e cream dessert and that was great.
I was there with friends this past weekend and took ages to get a menu, then to get my food. Bad Management and service.
Don't bother with the Parm and Garlic wings. The Old Bay and Buffalo wings were great
I recently visited Sign of the Whale for the first time with some friends. I had heard good things about the food, and outdoor seating views that can t be beat. Needless to say, we were not disappointed! Probably one of the best meals I have had in a while. We decided to just pick a few things we all wanted and share. The standouts were the whipped ricotta with truffle oil and drizzled honey(so smooth and flavorful!), the tuna tartar(so fresh!) and the Lobster risotto(amazingly delicious!). The risotto was so good we ordered another portion! Drinks were pretty good- and there were fun cocktails to choose from. My only small complaint was that the waitstaff seemed to not be very knowledgeable about the menu- we asked about a few culinary terms and ingredients and were met with a blank stare. A more educated, up-beat waitstaff would put this restaurant over the edge!! Over all it was a great meal and we will definitely be back;) Do yourself a favor and make your way down to Harbor Point! You won t regret it!
Happy they were open for business.since the food is amazing here. Not to mention the service was great too no doubt.
Besides for the chicken bones in my BBQ chicken pizza, the food was just ok. Roof area was closed for an event so sat outside on the street. Server was not incredibly friendly. Definitely other better choices for brunch.
Drinks are on the pricey side, great atmosphere. There's usually a wait for the rooftop on the weekends suggest getting there early. Also the dress code is kinda strict, no ripped jeans for the people that are into fashion! Also no music upstairs which kinda kills the vibe.
We drove from Riverdale NY to try this restaurant.
The food tested good, the place was clean and the hostess was very helpful. Unfortunately the service needs lots of attention. There were five of us and they only brought out two waters. It took them more than 10 min to bring out the remaining three waters.
We got our appetizer and we still did not have our silverware on the table.
One of us was celebrating her birthday. I noticed another table ordered a very cool birthday ice cream and they sang HappyBirthday to them.
I order one for our table but they never sang HappyBirthday to us.
Dear Sign of the Whale service team:
Please remember to step it up. The place and the food must match the service. This way you will no longer screw your tip.
OMG... the brussel sprouts and fig prosciutto Pizza!
Love the chicken and waffles. Our server was also great! So mad I forgot his name, but we sat outside. Inside. The tables are spread out and they have hand sanitizer at the entrance and by the bathroom. The rooftop is perfect for a good view and hangout spot, but make reservations prior, on weekends. Nice place for brunch and after work happy hour
Nice atmosphere but not the greatest options in food
Brunch was not that great. Took a lot of them for the food to show up and it was cold. Disappointed!!
I felt like Vin Diesel AND Dwayne the Rock Johnson here
There were four of us at the table and it took 50 minutes to get the food once we got the food it was cold and we were not given silverware or condiments had to asked for them and the food tasted disgusting the waitress never came back to even ask us how we were doing would not recommend this place at all and the prices were high .. before our food came out we actually asked the waitress for our silverware and napkins she said don t worry it ll come then when we got our food we had to ask again for the silverware and she said oh I have to go downstairs and get it so now we have to wait for silverware while our food was served to us getting colder by the minute ..Bad food at high prices stay away
Super patient and friendly service with excellent food to boot. Recommended!
Great environment! Excelente food
And good drinks.
All the small plates we got were delicious! Some things we got were the skirt steak, shrimp in garlic and oil, lobster mac and cheese and corn
Love the food, but there is extremely loud music playing at night that keeps me and several people living in the in the apartments across the street awake until very late at night.
Went at 8pm on Friday night. The food and drinks were terrific and our server was patient and phenomenal. After dinner service the DJ came and we stayed for a few drinks. The DJ was great, but it wasn't as busy as I expected that it would be!
Ok. Drinks where over priced and most of the staff was Surly. The one notable exception was the bartender, she was very friendly and knew her drinks.
Place is awesome, great service and Erik The Bowtied Bartender is the man
They had this cool dinner date special. If you have a significant other and not a single loser you can have an appetizer, entree, dessert, and a bottle of wine for $75. If you are single I guess you can eat for two all by your lonesome
It was okay. Nothing bad but nothing to write home about. I didn't get a chance to check out the roof but I'm sure it was a nice view. Friendly service.
I went here with my Girlfriend and ordered the Salmon. About 10 minutes go by and the waitress(who was excellent) comes out and tells me they don't have Salmon. What kind of seafood place doesn't have Salmon? That's like going to Ihop and ordering pancakes and they don't have pancakes. Very disappointing.
I fell for the hype , I expected a lot more from this place. The place was not bad but it s more for a younger crowd who wants to see how fast they can get s*** faced . Also the portion size of food they serve is over priced.
Both the host and wait staff were great. Food was excellent and roof top dining, even with a chill in the air, was very comfortable. Looking forward to my next visit.
The atmosphere and food were great. Drinks were pricey but delicious and service was awesome.
Wife's birthday on Saturday and she really wanted lobster, a beautiful view and somewhere new to try. We waited out front for ten minutes while servers and others passed by staring at my family of five. We were finally sat at a table for two because there was a large party going on. Odd thing was there was 4-5 empty tables around. The manager came and added an additional table.
As other reviews said we were served and charged for water. My wife asked for lobster and on three occasions she asked for melted butter. Our food took quite some time to come out and when it did it was semi warm and the lobster was almost cold. When she asked for the melted butter, Osvaldo, our server who never came to check on us, brought her a stick of cold butter.
She did not eat her food and we had it removed from the bill but do not go to this restaurant and think you'll be served respectfully. Also this is more of a bar than a restaurant - food does not seem to be taken seriously here. The one star is for the view. That was nice.
Avoid in the winter. Roof top bar in the au.mer though is one of the best in Stamford.
Fun place to have drinks after work. More so a bar then a restaurant. But if you were to go there to eat I would go for only brunch.
The one star on this rating is because I have to . My boyfriend and I made reservations for our high school friends who was coming to visit us from New York . We have read prior reviews and thought this was a good match since we all wanted like a rooftop
Vibe . When we was seated we was more at a bar table setting it wasn t really comfortable but we was going to make the best of it . The waiter took forever to greet us and once she did and got our drinks our drinks all tasted like water . We didn t complain because we had other plans at our home and knew we would be drinking . She gave us or drinks and almost 20 minutes went buy before she returned to our table to take our food orders. We ordered our food and waited . Now this is about 45 minutes into us being here . The rooftop was clearing off and we ask to be seated at a more comfortable table . We was told that there was reservations back fo back . We left that situation alone . After , receiving our food is now maybe another 20 minutes we see the tables are still not occupied and we feel a little way about it . The tables we was at weren t comfortable and we had ask to move . So to see most of the night a table that could of fit four a party of four . We did not get the accommodations we would of liked . It was hard to not look at it as a race thing because of our color of skin and the not so speedy service we didn t receive. We bragged about this place to our friends told them about the great reviews to get horrible service. Would never see me here again . Horrible service .
Went twice over a weekend. Oysters, crabcakes and Sunday boozy brunch with eggs Benedict with Lobster and smoked salmon sandwich. All was so good, I forgot to take pics!
