I cannot say enough about how wonderful Shipley Ma...

I cannot say enough about how wonderful Shipley Manor is. From the skilled rehab to the Assisted Living Unit (ALU), the staff have been outstanding. My aunt is currently a resident there and the journey that took us to the realization that she could no longer be in her own home safely, by herself, was a difficult, but necessary, one to make. As most of us have difficulty with change, my Aunt and I researched and spent much time visiting the different facilities in the North Wilmington area. We put together comparison charts and everything. My Aunt was already in Shipley Manor recovering from a bad fall in July 2018 and realizing that her Parkinson's symptoms had progressed pretty rapidly, assisted living was now the option for her. From Kathy, Muriel, and Kristen, to the nurses, CNAs, and Dr. MaGhee, to the wonderfully attentive staff of the ALU (Setty, Edward, and Bernard and the ALU CNAs), I couldn't ask for a better group of people! They are always available to answer the plethora of questions that my Aunt and I had/have, never making us feel like we were annoying them. ANY and I mean ANY changes to my Aunt's conditions or medications, there is always a call to me...and the fact that they start the call with..."your aunt is fine...we are just calling to let you know..." means a lot. My Aunt is happy again. She's around people and she's smiling again. I can see parts of her old self that I hadn't seen in years start to emerge again. She's active and participating in the daily events that the Activity's Director has scheduled for the residents. She gets to go on trips with the groups and she even knew a few residents from her time at the beach, so she is gaining friendships again. This truly is a wonderful place and economically affordable as well; my Aunt's apartment gets cleaned daily (vacuumed, bathroom, kitchen floor, dusting, bed made, everything!! and they do a tremendous job! The staff at Shipley Manor are becoming family as well. They made the transition from home to assisted living an easy one for my Aunt and our family. The peace of mind of knowing my Aunt is there and being well taken care of is priceless. I recommend Shipley Manor for your loved ones if you ever have to come to this crossroad in you/your loved one's life.

My Aunt moved into Shipley Manor for Rehabilitation when she was having trouble walking suddenly. She had a nice size private room that was bright. She was pleased with all the employees who cared for her and the good meals. Everyone was kind to her and extra helpful. The Rehabilitation team was very skilled and my Aunt excelled. She is coming back home after 2 months of care and she is using a walker.

My father went here for short term rehab after a month hospital stay in 2011. The neglect was reprehensible. The staff were usually socializing in the filthy hallways. The place smelled of urine and feces. My father got C-diff in there and went downhill in less than a week
They would bring his food tray in and not bother to sit him up to even give him water. There were no doctors on staff..maybe come in once or twice a week and there was usually only one RN.
I came in one evening he was unconscious and breathing badly. I ran to get a "nurse". One of the aides slowly meandered down the hallway and then took his blood pressure. She turned to leave the room and I asked her what it was. She mumbled something and I thought she said 70 over 40. I asked her to repeat it and thats what it was. I told her I was calling 911 and she said, "no, I have to call the doctor." I told her I wasn't going to wait for a doctor to come in there..this was an emergency. When the paramedics got there they told me he would have died that night. He had to get 6 bags of fluid on the ride to Christiana. They almost killed my father. I don't know if it's changed since then, but I wouldn't send a rat there unless I checked the out thoughly.

My father was a resident of another Assisted Living community where his needs were neglected and his health declined. I moved him to Shipley Manor and my family and I are so pleased! He is a different man. He is clean, shaven daily , well-dressed and groomed, and treated only with dignity and respect. He loves the food and all the attention he receives. The staff treat him with compassion and affection. He loves it there!

With enough friends to socialize & plenty of intellectual & physical activities to choose from, Shipley Manor is more than a senior living community. It is what my mother calls "home". My children have so much fun every time they visit her & their big parties are just amazing. Resident's care, safety & comfort are priority number one.

My mother was a short term resident at Shipley Man...

My mother was a short term resident at Shipley Manor two times. First time to recover from a stroke and the second time to recover from seizures. Mom had a wonderful experience both times she was there. The staff and administration cared for her like she was family! Each and every day her well being was first and foremost with making sure that her rehab was successful and that when ready she was able to safely go home. Each day mom received intense therapy so that her strength, mind and abilities were to a healthy state of living. The nurses made sure that as a diabetic she was monitoring her diet and that she received her medication in a timely fashion. The aides, whether assigned to her or not, took care of her and made sure she had everything and anything she needed. On moms first experience at Shipley one of her occupational therapy tasks was to make Christmas cookies since she loved to bake. Mom made her butter cookie recipe and made enough for the whole staff and residents! She was an instant favorite in that department! When mom became ill in April of this year and we knew that she was going to need extra help for awhile, this was the only place that my dad wanted to be to get better. So for the next 6 weeks she did rehab and got the strength and well being again that she needed to be able to go home and live a normal life again. The Healthcare Staff is a wonderful team that takes care of their residents, long term or short term. Everyone is treated equal. I could leave in the evening and know that my mom was well taken care of and I didn't have to worry if she was ok.

My father did part of his rehab here. The staff was so personable. They were really attentive to my father as well as our family. They took great care of him.
The facility itself was fantastic. It was very clean. They had many shared activities for him to do which included necessary social interaction with other residents there.
The staff there were very good at their jobs. They gave weekly updates of my father s progress and gave us details on goals of care. From the top down, this staff was excellent. They exemplified an overall attitude and service of excellence. I definitely recommend them!

After my grandfather Charles Wallace died over two...

After my grandfather Charles Wallace died over two decades ago now, my amazing grandmother, the wonderful (and now angel) retired IV emergency room nurse Doris Wallace realized she could not stay in their very big -but also very old and hard to maintain/clean- North Wilmington house where she grew up. She moved to Shipley Manor (in independent living- as she could do everything including drive- and fast, too - up until a few months before she finally passed) and I have to admit, as my first real encounter with a nursing home as we all called it back then, after hearing all the horror stories and how they d say it s the beginning of the end ...but especially how much she LOVED my grandfather and was really missing him, grieving, alone... our entire family thought the worst. WOW WERE WE SO PLEASANTLY SURPRISED & BLESSED TO THIS DAY AT HOW WRONG WE WERE!! My grandmother didn t just live, she THRIVED there, and some days was even BUSIER THAN I WAS! I remember the day I called her asking for the 2nd time that week if I could swing by (as I worked rightttt NEXT DOOR AT WSTW at the time) and she said something like well not now, __is over and we re getting ready to bartend this dance event in the main dining room tonight.. and tomorrow I play cards with _ & _ from 1-4.. Hmm MAYBE Thursday... what is you re schedule like from 5-7pm? - I cried tears of joy as I laughed at the fact that my eighty-some year old grandmother- (who before moving to Shipley didn t have a huge circle of friends, as her best friend was her husband - then her kids & family of course) was BUSIER THAN I WAS!!! We NEVER EXPECTED THIS!! I remember especially always hearing about her favorite person there: Kathy Scott, the sales and marketing director who has a heart of GOLD. Kathy was always close by and always knew more than I did about what she was up to, and was with her up until she passed away peacefully and ready- still in independent living- only a couple years ago! I m so grateful for this and for her- so thank you, Kathy Scott. THANK YOU SHIPLEY MANOR!

Shipley is one of the best Nursing facilities I have ever been to. The staff members are very welcoming and friendly. The facility is very clean and the food there is spectacular. Residents have so many different activities to choose from through out the day and trips to go on. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for a great place to call home.

This placed treated my grandfather great during a difficult time for my family. He was there for 3 months in rehab after breaking his hip. They took care of him and listened to the wishes of his family. They helped with so much and we all are very thankful of this. Thanks to a great rehab team, medical team and positive environment we were able to bring him back home safely.

A very cozy and welcoming facility. A lot of natural light and a fair share of house pets really add a new dimension to this place. My mom loves watching the birds in the aviary! The staff really go out of their way to make her feel comfortable and taken care of. Kathy (the saleswoman that helped us) really went above and beyond to make sure this was a good fit and an easy transition!

Shipley Manor has some of the most kind, caring, compassionate and experienced staff that I have ever met at a facility. From the moment you walk in the door and meet Amy, you are welcomed by her beautiful smile and pleasant personality. Kathy Scott is the best of the best. She is knowledgeable, helpful, accommodating, compassionate and respectful. Susan Comegys is experienced, compassionate and dedicated to her residents. Everyone is treated like family.
