Current student here and I called to ask a question concerning fall registration and the women who answered was unabashedly rude to me and unhelpful. She even hung up on me while I was talking. It s ridiculous that a University that constantly sings it s own praise for having the teacher of the year is brought down by having horrid student assistance.

This is my daughters first semester in college and we chose Shepherd mostly because of Covid and wanting her to be close enough that if things got too bad we could get to her quickly. We couldn t be happier with our decision. We were completely overlooking a wonderful school just because it was local. The campus is beautiful and well kept. We were told that she would be living in the oldest dorms so we were completely blown away by how nice her room is. The security is always present on campus. I literally see them every single time I am there. As a Mom, this is BIG for me.

Terrible school. I have had multiple bad experiences here. I attended in the Fall of 2014 for two weeks and decided to leave. First of all, I decided to change my major from Nursing to undecided. My adviser failed to notice that my Chemistry course was only for Nursing majors. AFTER the add/drop date, she told me I could either drop the course or stick with it, but it won't work with any other majors (waste of time).
If your child is being recruited by the softball coach, DON'T FALL FOR IT! I know of a few girls including myself who were recruited by Coach Lopez, told we would be on the team, and once we were already enrolled in the school, were told we had to try out and were cut. It has happened to multiple girls. With those two experiences, I decided to just leave. There was no point in me staying with unhelpful academic advisers and embarrassment (they also didn't offer the major I wanted to switch to). It doesn't stop there though! In the Spring of 2015, I applied to two colleges to transfer to. I still had to send in my transcript from Shepherd even though I didn't receive credit. Okay, whatever. I go to request a transcript and I have a hold on my account for EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS! I was there for two weeks and dropped out before the "90% refund" date and they wanted to charge me $7,000 for housing!!! I sent an appeal to Emily Sechler in Residence Life. She never sent me a follow up email saying she would review the appeal. I sent her another email to check up, called her phone and left my name and number, and it finally took my mother threatening with a lawyer to get her to answer me. Luckily, my appeal was approved and they removed my housing fee after three weeks of hassle. Nope, doesn't stop there, either. Once I finally was able to send my transcript in, I did. I sent it in a week ago and the school I applied to still hasn't received it yet. All of this hassle to send in a transcript has set my application back an entire month. Long story short, this school is terribly unorganized and has very rude staff. Please take your money elsewhere.

The advisors are so unhelpful. I will e-mail/call my advisor (Dr. Burke in the Education department) multiple times and never get a response. I had to register for classes several days later than I was supposed to because my advisor failed to give me the proper information at the proper times. I had to go to the registrar's office and have a lady there advise me instead of my actual advisor. The lady in the registrar's office was very helpful and gave me a lot of information, but still some of the information that she gave me was incorrect.
I thought that going to a smaller school would give me more access to my professors, advisors, etc. and that the faculty would be more helpful and caring, but that is definitely not the case here at Shepherd University.

This "university" is a processing facility for a poor learning experience. Merely a physical location for turning U.S. currency into a worthless piece of paper.
Common practices are hiring teachers overseas to take advantage of covid
Minimum effort needed, more like high school with "Instructors" who care more about whether they like a student to decide the student's grade
"Department chairs" take any and every opportunity to support failing assistant professors even if they are actively trying to haze veterans

If you are pursuing a career in Computer Science, then do not go to this school. I have spent the last 4 years pretty much teaching myself the course, thnn the professors have. If you run into problems do expect much help. Also communication in email with them is horrible. Its like they dont read your email and see what the issue is. The read like the first 2 words and give a quick one liner back that doesnt even begin to answer your problem. It has been pure frustration at this university.
