Stayed 4 or 5 times, every time I come to Penang will definitely stay
The environment is very comfortable and beautiful
The service staff is very polite and kind
Suitable for being lazy there for several days
Swim in the morning and lunch by the pool
The recliner lying on the grass in the afternoon is very comfortable.
Take a walk on the beach in the evening to watch the sunset
Can walk to nearby food stalls for snacks
Although some distance from the city, the price is not cheap
But it s worth enjoying what you pay for
The park is divided into Rasa wing & garden wing
Rasa wing: Free afternoon tea upon check-in. There is a swimming pool for exclusive rasa wing guests. Very quiet (you can also go to the garden wing pool, but it s far away)
Not easily disturbed by others

Garden Wing: There are more people and many families with children. The environment is equally comfortable (the balcony at the far end is very large and there are deck chairs for sunbathing)

Anyway, it's a great restaurant, it's worth coming again!

If you have kids, stay at the Golden Sands next door. This hotel is not kid friendly compared to the Sands. Also, the lounge access is not worth the cost. Canapes were mostly fried and unpalatable. The rooms on the Rasa wing are outdated with a damp odor. The friendly staff though make up for anything lacking.

Nice rooms at the Rasa Premier Room. TV quality is rather bad though with non HD channels that are pushed through. Rasa Lounge at evening cocktails don't have substantial offerings but has great drinks.

We have been visiting Rasa Sayang for several years. My family and i love your great hospitality and ambiance. Great staff, wonderful service, beautiful and immaculate surroundings. I would just like to name a few of your staff as there isnt room for everyone. Shout out to Zakirul, Latchu, Kumar, Mohamad, Aries, Ringesh, Rajan, Harun and the rest. Look forward to my next trip. Small request - please improve on your music selection. I see a lot of the guests are older people and i dont think they are into tekno music! Jazz or country music would be much appreciated.

DEC 2020

DEC 2020

Had a very lovely vacation at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang (my first time here). There s no misses here at all, just multiple hits - the staff were lovely, the room was nice and housekeeping kept it spick and span, food was excellent (from breakfast to afternoon tea to in room dining) and the amenities are GREAT for those who want to lounge around the resort.

Initially booked the Junior Suite at Rasa Wing for 4D3N, then extended two more nights because we really enjoyed it. Even added on one extra guest for the last two nights and the staffs were very helpful and accommodating in arranging for extra bed etc. They ve got really great communication network as none of the staffs I encountered missed out the fact that I added on one extra guest and that just shows you how GOOD and efficient the hotel is at making sure their guests have a good time here.

Honourable mentions: Muru at the Rasa Wing pool - very accommodating, friendly and helpful every single day me and my family went for a swim at the pool and also Uncle Lee, the massage therapist. I had neck and shoulder massage on my last day. Felt very light and relaxed afterwards so I would definitely recommend Uncle Lee s service. The restaurant staffs and the Malay lady at the reception were also hospitable but I didn t catch a glimpse of their names except Encik Hamzah (if I m not mistaken) who was manning the beverage counter during breakfast during my first few days here.

Overall, I would say that this is a very value for money type of hotel - I really got my money s worth during my stay here and would come visit again end of next year. For future guests: I recommend taking one of the Rooms at Rasa Wing as you get to enjoy a less crowded pool plus complimentary beverages and afternoon tea. Also, do check out the Rasa Deli - I had the Chocolate Dome Cake and it was delish!

I could go on and on about how I enjoyed my stay at the hotel - hope everyone else who visits in the future enjoys it as much as I do. Thank you very much to all the staffs at Rasa Sayang and keep up the good work! See you next year!

Edit: Another thing I really appreciate about the hotel is they don t exterminate the monitor lizards in the area. Encountered a few during my stay, mostly at the pools but the lizards are harmless and are just minding their own business. As with all animals - wild or domesticated, as long as you don t bother them and keep a safe distance they won t bother you too. It s just a place that has been their home for the longest time.

The service is very satisfying. Unfortunately the place is just old. Need renovation. But it's still comfortable. But for kids club it was very disappointing. And there are not many food choices around there.

This resort is very good for a family vacation stay. Rooms are big and clean. Beds are cosy and pillows are soft. Those who need hard pillows need to ask. Linens are clen & changed regularly. Towels are also good quality and all are new. I think they change regularly. Foods are awesome. Room rate seems to be a bit high. I will recommend group of family or friends this place.

We stayed at this hotel following a recommendation...

We stayed at this hotel following a recommendation and good reviews of this supposed 5 star hotel.

However when we arrived we found the rooms rather dated and tired.

For example the safe in the room getting having errors (opening / locking) and had to be reset by the hotel handyman.

I can not fault the staff. They were all incredibly helpful and friendly, particularly the managers on the main reception who helped getting our lost luggage back from Malaysian Airlines.

The main breakfasting area was average and nothing special. Also, if you sit outside and leave your food unattended the birds will probably take it.

While there was a lot of choice, we found the food rather bland.

The chefs are more than happy to rustle something up for you, whether be omelettes, Indian or oriental.

We also found this area quite noisy as it was rather busy.

To avoid eating in this area I would suggest upgrading to the Rasa wing, which gives you access to another restaurant which is more exclusive and quieter.

Another upgrade which is relatively inexpensive provides you with access to afternoon tea and a happy hour (drinks). This is a worthwhile upgrade.

The beach is pretty narrow with occasional jellyfish so it s not really any good for swimming and walking in. Having said that there are some boats and jet skis for water sports.

The main pool is not heavily used so you normally get a sun lounger to relax on. The temperature of the water was spot on.

While it can be hot here, it can also be rather humid. So some folk may struggle here. You can also expect thunderstorms and periods of heavy rainfall due to the humidity.

Apart from the other hotels nearby there are not that many decent places to go out at night.

I would suggest going to Georgetown nearby for entertainment at night.

The gym in the hotel is well equipped, however, some of the machines are rather dated and not properly greased. The dumbbells are also rather dated, that aside, there is plenty of stuff here to keep you occupied.

The folk who stay in this hotel tend to be around 40-70 old, so if you are looking for an alternative with younger guests maybe look at the Solid Rock hotel nearby if you are going to stay in Penang.

Nice, clean rooms.

Nice, clean rooms.

The food and atmosphere at the Feringhi Grill & Bar was great. The happy hour options were underwhelming though, and would've liked to see better quality house pours.

Breakfast service is in the same restaurant for the Rasa Wing guests, however didn't achieve the same level of service and quality. Was still very good, however was not as "well oiled" as the dinner service (e.g. Staff didn't seem to be allocated to specific tables and didn't communicate so inconsistent attention and on several occasions got asked for our order multiple times).

Rasa private adult-only pool is nice and much more quiet and calm. Although here while the hotel is at full capacity, we didn't encounter any issues getting seated or feel overcrowded at any point in our stay.

The staff's work attitude is super-standard. They are very willing to help the guests. They carefully observe the needs of the guests and try their best to meet the requirements. The breakfast is rich and varied. If you have the opportunity to go to Penang, you will definitely choose this hotel again!

Even though it claims to be a luxurious five-star resort, and I've had many experiences with five star hotels and resorts, Shangri la Rasa Sayang, in my opinion, there's nothing special about it. We took 6 rooms and stayed for 2 nights, but they never make us feel extra welcomed. The breakfast was good with good food, but I didnt get the best treatment.
1. We asked to reheat the bread, they said no need. So rude.
2. I didnt know i had to choose my eggs first and the chef asked me to go back to the beginning of the queue. Unacceptable.

I may not be some overseas tourists or some rich fella, but I also paid to stay there. Please improve on your chef's customer service.

Will i go again? Probably not.

My son got bitten by jelly fish. The staff was quick to response and they sprayed vinegar on the skin immediately. Vinegar will neutralise half of the toxin of jelly fish. My boy has now recovered with no scar.

The property is superb, hands down. Rooms are done well, the bed is comfy, so is the washroom. The spa facilities are good.

The only let down is food, the breakfast buffet is predominantly pleasing to the south east asian population. Everything is eggy and is fishy.
