This is the oldest hotel in Batu Ferringhi. It occupies one of the best beach front in Batu Ferringhi. The old rain trees provide plenty of shade. You can spend a lazy afternoon in the garden overlooking the sea while enjoying the gentle breeze. The gardens are well tended. If you love lush greenery with plenty of open spaces, this is the place to be.
5 star resort with 5 star service in a 5 star location!

Cozy and quaint. The service is good and attentive. Restaurants offer good food and drinks. The room amenities are quite basic, especially compare to the room prices but you'll probably be spending most of your times outdoors anyway.
Very Balinese feel about the place. Good, friendly service, modern decor in rooms. Rooms are okay sized - depends what you're used to.
Not as exclusive as Pangkor Laut, but lovely setting amidst the rain trees. Staff friendly and attentive. Good food options if a bit price.
Bar at beach is a good place for beer dtinking relaxing and chatting with friends while enjoying gentle sea breeze.
Lovely resort surrounded by lots of nice greenery and has its own private beach that s very well looked after. Pool is very kids friendly and great family vacation! Lots of activities but didn t have enough days here to check it out.
Food selection at breakfast is brilliant and special mention for the fresh croissants and fresh grapefruit juice! Food and drinks are rather expensive but it is after all still a proper 5 star resort.
The resort is also trying to be more eco friendly by discouraging plastic use with paper straws on request, paper cups by the pool/beach and refillable glass bottles in the room. Service levels are great but room was not as promised during check in, hence the 4 star rating... specifically requested and was promised a large king bed but had two singles joined.
Location is also great and 5-10 mins walk to night market and shops.
I will definitely return someday, hopefully sooner than later!

This is a great place for a family getaway vacation trip, especially for those with kids. The overall environment here is very relaxing and filled with a lot of activities to cater for a fun and enjoyable experience. We have been coming back to this paradise for quite a number of times and we are still looking forward to our next stay here. Our daughter just simply love spending time in the resort mostly playing by the pool area or just hang out by the mesmerizing beach. The Kids Club activities by the resort is also another attraction that keep us coming back as our daughter seems to be having fun when joining the activities. The people here are quite friendly and tends to be very helpful. There is also a range of nice food to choose from the restaurants in the resort. All in all, this is definitely one of the top family vacation spot along the Batu Ferringhi stretch in Penang.
Need 5 minute walk to Masjid because this hotel didn't place for Muslim to pray
Quiet, relax. I stayed in Garden wing, which i can enjoy a beautiful pool view and a lil bit of sea view.
Excellent hotel in Penang. No comparable place in this city. Food is the best in Penang. Gym is beautiful but I have seen same equipments many years, may need some replacement. Gym attendant should not spray clean equipment when someone using. Towels not sufficient.
My favorite stop in Penang! Outstanding service that is unequalled on the island. Beach and ocean views are the best in Penang.
Great hospitality. Although from outside the buildings looks old and not modern but when you check-in, you will greet friendly staffs, excellent foods and fantastic greenery environment as well. Big swimming pool for adults and kids. The breakfast was awesome! Will come again next visit and hopefully can give more discount/promotions :)
Hotel is a little dated but not really a big deal, rooms are modernized and clean and staff are very very nice. What i loved is that even at 95 Percent full rate (what they claimed) you didn't feel that the hotel was crowded like in Cancun. Little or no lines, always available chairs at the beach and a cool bar. So why 3 stars? It's over priced for that area, $20 double shot wiskey drinks, $4 cokes that cost $.5 at a nice restaurant nearby, $55 seafood buffet that was okay.. i just think you should price things based on the country that you are in, not based on what you clients can afford. Probably will try to stay away from shingri la hotels in the future.

Beach restaurant is very pleasant, with a large selection of choices.
Breakfast is good, but obviously the same as what you get at Golden Sand Resort by Shangri La, which is a lower grade hotel.

Nice rooms and facilities, looks well maintained. Beach right in front of the hotel. However a bit far from the centre of Penang and far from the airport.
Buffet dinner experience dropped compare to my previously. No longer serve oyster? Some other local Asian food choice are not up to my expectations. Basically don't feel it worth the price anymore despite it's one of the most expensive seafood buffet in Penang.
Went there for a wedding and helped my cousin with the decoration set up at the tent marquee. Alot of flies due to the rainy season in October, got beaten alot. Do bring insect repellant if you are hanging around the tent marquee. Otherwise should be fine. Be prepared to walk quite a abit too. The place is rather big. Staff are friendly to help navigating around.

A beautiful place but far from the center of the city .. Wonderful view at sunset .. Breakfast buffet delicious and varied We tried the Indian dinner is good for the most important .. Reception staff are helpful There is a bus to transport from and to the center of the city free of charge at specific times ..
Kind of over-rated as on this heritage-style beach front resort - we were looking for some above and beyond service level under the branding of Shangri-la Hotel chains...hope to see more appealing to market demands of customer experience in the near future.
The rooms have a great view of the windows and the azure pool offers a panoramic view. The tranquility of a hundred years under the tree is a must! All of this instantly makes people feel that they don't want to leave. The staff in the hotel lobby has a good service attitude of home away from home ! Would like to go back again!
Attended a wedding dinner, wine was poured over my wife's night gown, service was pretty bad during the dinner time. The event was clearly understaffed as the waiter/waitress can hardly be seen. No tea refill and they need to be called to get attention.
Morning breakfast was good and checkout process was good. Overall, i do not think it worth the 5 star hotel status.

It's a little expensive, but when I negotiated a discount, he gave me a small discount.
Due to the large number of hotels, I didn't have much time to walk around the city, so I couldn't do much sightseeing in Penang.
It takes more than 30 minutes to drive to Georgetown, so you will lose at least 2 hours just to get out of town.
An enjoyable experience. Missed flowers in the bedroom. All restaurants excellent. Christmas and New Years festivities good. All staff pleasant and helpful. Look forward to returning next year.
