Secrets Silversands Review

This is our second time at Secrets hotels and this time at Secrets Silversands was the worst experience we ever had during a vacation time. Let me start by explaining to people don t be fooled by the Unlimited Vacation club because they will waste your time like they did with us. They told us it will be 90 min we ended up spending half day from our vacation to meet with a sales group trying to sale you worthless dream vacation membership.

During check in we requested the front desk to upgrade the room since it s our anniversary she found a cheaper room with ocean view we accepted the deal and we paid upfront. The room smells like an old book the AC is not adequate and the bed was terrible. Requested maintenance to fix the AC during the night but still no air. Unfortunately the ocean is not something you would enjoy which we know already before we went to this resort but the facility is lacking of proper amenities. The food was ok but not what we paid for or what we are expecting from secrets hotels.

The worse thing was during checkout we were asked to pay $250 more because the front desk during check in made a mistake and gave us the wrong rate.

I don t know about the positive reviews on this resort but I definitely I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Just returned back from Mexico. The Secrets Silversnds Resort is the best resort that I have ever stayed at. Every single staff member went beyond the normal and gave each guest their own special greeting. The food was all amazing at all 7 resturants. The property is very well maintained and the rooms were beyond clean. We will return to this location. And yes, it is safe to drink the water as it is filtered here.

The hotel is super, complies with everything of an all-inclusive, the activities by the entertainers are worth it, the staff very friendly; only note that non-national guests are given priority in terms of service

It's a wonderful resort friendly people, they all love to help and service you at any moment just one problem. At 1:AM everything is close at the resort, you have to go to sleep nothing else to do.

Excellent facilities, delicious food, the beach is not pretty

We had a wonderful honeymoon week at Secrets Silversands in November 2017. Reviews are very subjective, so I will attempt to be as honest and constructive as possible.

I will start with the things that were less than 'ultimate luxury'.

We arrived to a cool towel and a glass of sparkling wine. We were congratulated on our wedding and honeymoon, and overall made to feel very welcome. We were then told we had some 'special coupons' where a lady took us elsewhere in the lobby to sit to go through them with us.

This is where a positive experience went downhill. She went through each coupon ($40 off at the spa, $60 off a dinner on the beach/by the pool, a visit to another AM resort such as Breathless etc, a breakfast or dinner at another resort with a presentation). When we declined all of these things, her demeanour instantly changed, and she became almost standoffish. The spa we found to be over double the price than massages in Canada, and the dinner on the beach was $320 USD. She pushed further to the point I very politely but firmly said, it's our honeymoon - we are here to relax, and we would really like to get to our room. This had taken almost an hour. This lady (I wish I had her name) told us the bell boys would show us to our room, but they were busy - so she gave us vague directions instead. It took almost another hour before our luggage arrived.

The one other negative I will point out is the 'Secrets box' or 'privacy box' for ordering room service. At the last Secrets resort we went to - if the do not disturb sign was on the door they would automatically put it in this box, and we would leave a tip inside. Here, 99% of the time, they would knock on the door anyway.

Now, back to the long list of positives.

The food - we didn't have a single bad meal. The presentation of everything we ordered was second to none, as was the service. We need to mention Braulio at the Mediterranean restaurant who went above and beyond to give us an amazing dining experience. Mario, in the Mexican restaurant was equally wonderful, and made very knowledgable food suggestions for us.

Drinks - there is a very good selection of premium liquor here, and we always had very quick and efficient service. Mercedes, who was our pool waitress the whole week was fantastic, attentive and kept the drinks flowing. Miguel at the lobby bar made a custom drink that my husband asked for (and named it after him) and then remembered it the subsequent nights! We were very impressed.

I also need to mention the entertainment. The team here are very engaged with the guests, and work very hard to organize games, activities and shows. We enjoyed the pool/beach volleyball daily as well as the 'crazy games'. Charlie in particular was always in the centre of everything.

The resort itself is about a 20 minute drive from the centre of Cancun so it makes it difficult to go off resort. This didn't bother us as we literally spent the entire week sleeping in, eating good food and relaxing on the beach or by the pool. The beach is not the most picturesque, but still great for relaxing.

Overall we had a fantastic time, if only they were a little less pushy with their sales.

Lovely resort. Very friendly staff especialy Hector who helps with luggage etc. The main restaurant greeting girls and our main waiter miguel very funny. Lovely spacious rooms. Pool facilities great and right next to the sea, who could ask for more! Overall we loved it

The resort is fantastic, but they are a bit strict on the dress code in the evenings and we wanted the pools to be opened later.

Service is great... Grounds are a little worn... Beach is amazing... Food is not that fresh. Wifi was going in and out (very wonky) and not strong at outer buildings.... Both my wife and myself were barely able to make Facebook posts with the Wi-Fi that they had on the property. I would bring a snorkel and mask so that you can snorkel around in front of the property and so that you don't have to pay if you go on a snorkeling expedition. The Italian restaurant is the best restaurant on the property and I also suggest that you buy a bottle of wine and get the Caesar salad made at your table along with the desert that they light on fire :-)

The resort is located in between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. It is on a quiet beach which have many vendors set up for daytime water activities such as kayaks, Hobie cats, snorkeling and more. The resort staff is super friendly and all we encountered were willing to take an extra step in order to make our trip more memorable. The food is really amazing! We did not have one bad dish and we ate a lot. It's unlimited food and drink and the bars restaurants, special events focusing on both are everywhere and executed very well and tastefully. My one wish is that they had ginger ale, ginger beer and single malt scotch. There are lots of included activities that get you out into the ocean and a wonderful poolside activity director who gets the party really going. I highly recommend Silver Sands and would come back again.

Very nice resort. The decoration is contemporary and very good achieved. The service is of excellence. The food and drinks are excellent and the treatment of the staff is unbeatable. I recommend it. It has many pools but the beach is not good now because of the sargasso. The same had a great time. You never get bored as there are all kinds of activities and many pools.

Excellent service, excellent quality of rest and great variety of dishes

Had a terrible experience at this resort, came on my honeymoon. Food and drinks sucked, watered down drinks and not so good food. Was hounded starting day one to buy a timeshare at their sister resort. The pool was cold, all in all it was like i was trapped in paradise.

This is my first time at an all inclusive resort and in Cancun and it is beautiful! The staff is great, the food is great, the atmosphere... Everything is great. my fiance (wife tomorrow) and I had the honeymoon suite and a wedding package which was perfect. The planning is going well and I'm enjoying every minute I'm here

It is beautiful, but there are hotel staff who are malinchistas and Mexicans are pushed aside.

Beautiful resort. The restaurants are amazing. The staff is very friendly. The resort is very well maintained and clean. The only negative is the fact that all of the rooms and restaurants are very hot. The AC does not make the rooms very cool.

It was an incredible experience, I spent my honeymoon there. There are 5 restaurants for dinner with a variety of foods, the pools are great and the service by the staff is first class. To my taste, the only thing I want to leave is the beach because it has a lot of seaweed and is not deep

This hotel is located in Puerto Morelos in the Petempich Bay complex. It is a hotel that handles everything included.

This resort is a very nice place to stay especially if you are a couple. There are plenty events that go o through the day to keep one entertained. The drinks and good are good and there are plenty of restaurants to eat at night. The rooms are nice and spacious and service is fast and responsive.

Very nice beach and they care to keep it clean. The food is excellent. The French restaurant is the best. Multiple pools distributed in the hotel. The staff is very helpful although when you are on the beach loungers they rarely come to offer drinks.

Awesome food service and drinks pools and beach are great couldn't complain about any of it. And there are no bad views the ocean is right there!!

Service is fantastic. The staff is ever helpful. Maintenance of the room have room for improvement. Inconsistencies in room facilities. The sea in this area has a rocky bottom and is full of weeds which make it unswimable.

The resort is stellar, as all Secrets we have been to. The staff is friendly and extremely polite. The grounds are super clean and everything is easily identifiable. The fixtures in the bathrooms are a little outdated, but they work, which is what matters. We contacted the front desk about an issue with the lights, which they were aware of, and very apologetic about, but also explained how we could "fix" it, as a permanent solution is in the works. Good food, plenty of entertainment (they set up rooms to watch the football championships) and awesome pools and beach.

Everything excellent At the entrance they could have people attending.

Some of the staff are lovely but there are a concerning amount that are rude and make you go out of your way to sort issues that arise whilst staying here. Its not fun having to spend hours sorting things when its been paid for already and you would like to spend time relaxing. Although a small percentage of staff are excellent, the majority dont seem to care and its the worst hospitality I have encountered from a restort/hotel staff.

The first facilities, very neat and the best of all was the staff that attended us, we dined at the French restaurant and the food, the attention of the waiters and the luxury captain, I highly recommend this hotel and its restaurants. ..

This resort started out a bit shaky but very quickly got very good. Any short comings were quickly over shadowed by great service. A few exceptional staff helped pull the rest to perform. The property is showing its age but is maintained fairly well. Food was very very good and in some restaurants exceptional. I see room for improvement but most people would be very happy visiting. Special thanks the Vanessa (chef) Luis (Elpatio manager) and the entertainment coordinator who wheres the round tinted sun glasses... she helps get the rest of the team going.

Stay away from building 5. No elevator "For your convenience " and very noisy from adjacent facility machinery. Otherwise great!

The location, View, Wait staff, and food was great!! BUT the administration was very decietful and rude through a simple dispute!!!

the room i was in had not been used in a LOOONG time. so long the drains in the plumbing trap had dried out and it had bugs coming up from the shower/sink drains. they didnt believe me so I showed them pictures. they promised to refund me 200 of the 293 dollars.. they did do that but then a month later they re-billed my credit card!!!! now fighting it. they claim they have no records.. I paid with CC, my CC company went to bat for me... To top it off in order for me to get a refund in the first place they made me sign a paper that said I would not write a negative review on trip advisor!!!! no wonder they have so many good reviews, they try to force your hand in order to get a refund when a customer has a bad experience!!! Ive seen similar things like this on other forums/blogs about this resort... nice place but BE CAREFUL. there are many other places just as nice or better nearby!

Resort above average. Well organized, well decorated, good food choice. It would be perfect if they had more attention to cleanliness of the rooms.

The wife and I came here as an anniversary present to ourselves and to "check out this whole all-inclusive thing".

We enjoyed our stay, the pools and restaurants were great. The room service was timely and the variety of things to do kept us busy. The staff was extremely professional and courteous.

A couple things I might point out for anyone interested.

The "swim out suites" are definitely not swim out. It's essentially a ground floor suite with some chairs outside your room. The water is anywhere from 5-20ft from the actual room. (The sister resort Breathless has true swim out suites where you can enter the water from your outdoor patio) That was a bit disappointing to be honest as it costs more than a normal room.

We also noticed a sewage smell for the first two days we were here, between our room block 4 and the main building. It smelled strongly in our room and overnight. It was gone by the third day but it was unexpected to say the least. We didn't make a big deal about it and I was thankful it didn't persist longer during our 5 night stay.

The beach is definitely not anything special but it was enjoyable to walk along a bit with my wife. Lots of seaweed and the staff seemed to work constantly to keep it clear. Would not recommend you come here if you are only interested in the beachfront.

We had never stayed at an all inclusive before and tried out the "time share sales pitch" to find out more. The sales staff was polite and took us over to Breathless, to show it off and to proposition us to become "Unlimited Vacation Club Members" in exchange for a $100 credit for the resort. It was about 90 minutes and fun to see another resort. Breathless certainly seemed more upscale than Silversands. Overall I left feeling a bit annoyed but my wife and I did end up getting a nice 80 minute deep tissue massage together for a steal. They spa staff were wonderful and professional also.

To be honest, it was a wonderful and relaxing stay and I'm happy we were able to come and enjoy it.

Great food. Beach sucked though. Drinks sucked too. Room was huge!

When we arrived, we didn't get the champagne and cool towel that was promised. And they took an hour to get our luggage to our room. The room service was great! All the restaurants we went to on the resort we're amazing! The bars and nightly entertainment was amazing! The beach was great until some guests from another resort came over... Secrets is adult only and that's why we chose it... But the resort next door was family friendly and quite a few people brought their kids and dogs in front of our resort. It was extremely annoying! I came down to get away from kids, not be surrounded by them on the beach!

OMG am I in heaven or what !!! Today is my second day and this place is amazing. I have never experienced such a beautiful spa and the message was mind blowing ( thanks to Leticia). I still have a few days left but I am already planing my next trip back to get another slice of this heaven. #Cancun#Beautiful#Heaven

Overall good hotel to stay at in Cancun. If it's your first trip to Mexico the Secrets in Cabo is fantastic!

Excellent hotel, facilities, rooms, swimming pools, in excellent condition, restaurants that are 7, incredible with the food offered by each of them. 100% recommendable.

This is the worst all inclusive resort we have ever been to in the four other years. breathless just one mile up the beach is heads and tails above this, 1/2 the price there is no Mini bar in the rooms you only have a choice of a Jose quervos shot or Bacardi shot and you left the ask for those. in the spa the hot tub is so dirty I didn't dare get it the food is worse than high school cafeteria food. The beach is better than breathless because they use a trackor to plow the sea weed off of it unlike breathless which uses manual labor. the RIU in Cancun is so much nicer the beaches and food Paid a $100 a night for the VIP club their idea of premium tequila is Jose cuerpo I have never ever been more disappointed with the selection than this please think twice before selecting them this is a nightmare of a vacation They hide and frequently have no premium liquors in the bars the TV's have poor reception and lines on them constantly even after asking maintenance to come up and check them out. They have no parties anand very little going on during the day most things seem to start at 10 or 11:00 at night Where told they are underneath new management and having difficulties you only have one of the 5 restaurants open for breakfast and lunch the food is horrible I've actually lost weight this is day 6 of a 7 day vacation and have lost weight at an all inclusive resort Even though you paid a $100 A-day extra for the VIP club you only get to use the hydrotherapy one day where breathless you got to use it every day Fifth year in a row going to Cancun and this is by far the worst experience we have had. And the most expensive.

The location to do routes is a little bad and for the excursions you have to get up early.
This orientadisimo to the Americans, a lot of dress code and they let them scream, break and even make parties in the hall, leaving them dirty even with vomit.
The workers are very attentive and helpful.
The normal food
The cleaning of the common areas sometimes leaves to be desired, there have been glasses for 3 days in the lawn area.
They close restaurants without warning.
The room was given to us in the middle of the afternoon.
They do not give you any solution to anything, neither the receptionists nor the managers ...
In short, if you are Spanish go to a Spanish chain, the American style leaves a lot to be desired.

The rooms are very nice. Definitely geared towards couples. Single people can have fun but not if they're looking for random hookups

Spacious rooms, resort pretty much shuts down at 1 am. Staff is wonderful!

Exceptional service, courteous attentive very professional staff. The only down fall was the beach. Could not enjoy the beach because of the seaweed. That's nature, out of the hands of the resort.

Not the best secrets resort I've been to but that being said incredible food and the service is outstanding

Great staff and accommodations. Kind of annoying that their pools close so early. 8 PM is like putting a curfew on fun.

Omar the bellman was great, as well as Elias the bartender in the lobby bar.

The only complaints are not having a hair dryer or an iron in our room, and the fact that our room had an ice maker right outside of our door, that was apparently a hotspot for activity between 5 and 6 am.
