This is the greatest place on Earth. You can find any assortment of art supplies and office supplies. There are all sorts of fun artistic classes that take place there. They get so much China that they sell for quarters. Every Black Friday you can go there and buy little things to smash on the cordoned off back porch.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. Hands down, best places to visit if you want inspiration. If you don't know what you're going to make, this place is a perfect place the visit. There are tons of scraps you can buy for the cheapest prices. Surprisingly there is a lot of science equipment here.

The Scrap Exchange has an incredible variety of previously used or unwanted items. Wonderful for making crafts, but some are also just wonderful for an initial use. Like lamp shades, or DVDs. Or Ribbon scraps or fabric scraps or weird little glass containers.

Wow. The iconic scrap exchange is a combination of expertly sorted collage art supply and categorized vintage thrift mega store. They also offer workshops on how to use the ephemera they provide. Classes like homemade Christmas cards using recycled items.

This place deserves a Grammy, Oscar and Nobel peace prize. What an incredible contribution they provide to the local community.

This is hands down my favorite thrift store. You never know what kind of treasures you'll find. They have a great used book selection, tons of vinyl, and countless eclectic odds and ends. I make it a point to go whenever I'm in Durham.

As a visitor to Durham my daughter took me to both the scrap exchange resale and the next door art supply. What a treat, the resale had a lot of nice finds and we didn't see it all due to closing time. The art supply was completely overwhelming. I don't think there's a word in the English language to accurately describe it. If a former scientist became a scrapper, never threw out anything, and had a eye for neat used stuff this would be his paradise.

For crafters on any level, I think this is a great place. We had our first experience today. Sure, it's overwhelming. There's lots to choose from and lots to find. It's a great place that you can spend hours in looking at all the nostalgic items and then some. The employees are ace. One employee took the time to give us a full tour and the skinny as to how things work, because it is not intuitive for newbies. We did encounter some rude customers in the "make it yourself" area, so we left quickly. We were told there were no groups, so we decided to sit at a table only to have a group of older women scold us and ask for items back. Because it's not intuitive and we were told we could grab anything in that area, we did just that. Perhaps the employees can make things more clear for newbies to eliminate these sorts of situations? At least, newbies beware that this CAN happen. Other than that, this is a great place to be!

I have to drive almost an hour to get to Durham now that I've moved away, but still make the drive about once a month for the sole purpose of coming to the Scrap Exchange. You can find so many great items if you go in with a creative mind. I have never left without an armful of goodies to come home and create with.

One of the better thrift stores in Durham. Love the Scrap exchange for all things that are one off and this random things that need replacing of one component. Scrap exchange kindly has it. And very nice staff. Lots of the stuff here is also in generally good condition, if not brand new!

A must-go for any local Artist and/or Makers. There are all sorts of things here that get donated to them: Anything from clothes to sewing machines to scrap wood, board games, bricks, and bicycles. They even have so many lab supplies donated to them from companies in RTP that they have a special science section with glass labware, calibration weights, pipets, and lab equipment.

This place is so fun. I took my daughter to make a craft. It s $5 for 1.5 hours of crafting time, all supplies included. Also they have a ton of things available to buy such as scrap leather sold by the ounce that I ll use to make earrings! So fun.

Super cool place! I've never seen such a large assortment of usually useless items turned useful. A beautiful place to make sculpture, get cheap office supplies, or get inspired. Very cheap and fantastic.

This place has a little bit of everything. Their objective is to keep excess industrial materials out of landfields. They have different art classes as well where you can actually use this different material. So many more. They just opened up a thrift store diagonally from the big building that stands alone! You should go! The people here are wonderful. They also have a loyalty card called the frequent scrapper, you get a punch after every 10 you spend!

Great place to find parts and pieces of random things for art. Always a fun visit save you might find a surprise thing you didn't know you needed. Go with an open artistic mind and you might find what you need for a project.

An organization that reduces waste while giving back to the community? You'll find all that and so much more at Scrap Exchange! From pipettes to paper dolls, frames to fabrics, corks to cameras - if you can repair, create, build or make something with it, it's there. Classes and other instructional events are also offered and there's even a dedicated gallery space to display the work of artists who incorporate secondhand materials. Check it out the next time you're looking for anything!

Very exciting place for those who like to rummage while they ruminate. Filled with everything from fabrics to wheels to metal objects to solid oak columns from a dismantled church. Good place to spend a rainy afternoon. Proceeds from sales go to a local charity. P.S. While I was there, 2 groups from area public elementary schools were engaged in craft actvities.

Always have neat finds. If you're an artist it a crafter this is the place. Come let your imagination run wild. Find everything from yarn to film canisters. Lots of fabric. Random vintage items. If you love old stuff this is the place. If you're in a budget this is the place. If you need office supplies this is the place. A new Discovery every visit. They also have great free classes. Check the schedule. Bring the kids.

Some many treasures and room to make your creations come alive! One of my weekly go to places. You have to have an open mind. The scrap exchange is composed of 2 similar but different stores. You have the thrift store where you can find clothes, shoes, furniture, books, records, and house hold decor, electronics and much more and the other store is more arts and crafts, fabric finds, science supplies, and extra material from other projects.

I would highly recommend The Scrap exchange for teachers looking for supplies for the classroom and their students. Also for creative artist looking to create the ultimate masterpiece. Basically any one who loves to thrift and catch a good deal lol

If you are a crafter of any sort this place is a must-do. ABSOLUTELY MUST! Imagine if every crafty person in the world cleaned out their stashes, but instead of having 10 million tiny yard sales they all sold everything in one place, but at the same low prices. And it's good stuff too, some new some used, but no junk. There's also finished pieces from local artists too. If you need inspiration you cant fail to find it here. And don't forget the people: staff and other shoppers tend to be creative types too, so if the stuff can't inspire you the people probably can.

The Scrap Exchange embodies the old adage, "one man's trash is another man's treasure." If your an artist, DIYer, creative person or just thrifty then there's something here for you. Like to sew? They have vintage and contemporary fabrics on sale. Believe it sounds better on vinyl? Got it. Building a tiny house? There are fixtures, windows and wood and other materials. You'll have to sort and work your way through some of these goodies, but if your patient and creative there are some solid finds.
