Legend has it that this place is a MUST SEE and that holds to be true. I recommend planning on not being on a schedule and taking your time as you peruse this gem. Great clothing options, housewares, books, decor...you name it! Don't forget to check out both buildings for art supplies, paintings, and everything you need for creative inspiration!

Inspiration everywhere. Just need to open your mind and heart and the ideas will just flow! Every city Should have a scrap exchange. Reusables, new things, antiques, anything...you name it. Love this store and will miss it so much when we move.

We usually find good deals. However, the pricing continues to be inconsistent. With everything being donated, something used should not cost more that purchasing new. I will say that when we went Tuesday, the sweet lady that checked us out was one of the nicest employees that we have met and the shelves were full!

For a craft store, its absolutely amazing. A-lot to choose from as far as that goes. My reason for a 3 star rating is because of the cashiers. I usually buy media (DVDs and CDs from here from time to time) and there has been a couple of instances where one certain female cashier has denied me sales on certain items because "Im sorry but we only sale these TV show seasons together as a set" which I find highly strange. If it was wrapped up with the rest of the seasons and sold as one big set, I understand but it wasn't.

I have also came across dvds and cds that are not in the cases they come in, so it makes me wonder if they even check their product when they put it on the shelves. I feel like the store is very cluttered and a store this huge, they should have everything more organized. Also I feel like the signs saying how much things are need to be more clearer on prices. $1 for a dvd? no its one dollar per disc, they dont tell you this until you go to check out.

If you are coming for strictly craft related materials, this store is great but if you are coming for books or media, stay far away from this place.

The biggest collection of odd and scrap items that I have ever seen. All kinds of metal, wood, plastic, rubber leather, carpet, and used items. A good place to fuel creative thinking and therefore a great source for DIY projects.

This is a great place for those of us who hoard craft supplies! It's also a great place for those of us who like funky garden structures. Or perhaps you like to collect test tubes and Bunsen burners. Collages made out of old photographs other people have thrown away? There is something here for everyone, I assure you. A great place to spend a morning or an afternoon. Spend a little money! Create something interesting!

About as much as can be hoped for in a second hand store. Has a wide variety of items ranging from clothes, to stuffed animals, to power strips, to posters... Basically you name it, they have it.
Also a good place to get art supplies for cheap, if you don't want to splurge at A.C. Moore or some other crafts store.
They also have staff that tells you what you need to know, like how in a certain area of the store, you can use different sizes of red bags for different prices. You get, say, a medium sized bag for $5, then you can stuff it full of things and it'll still be $5. You get to keep the bag, too!
There's a water fountain if you get thirsty from going around everywhere, and bathrooms too.
The best part of it, in my opinion?
It has the thing from the planetarium where you put a coin into a slot, and it rolls down in circles and spirals all the way to the bottom, where it drops into a hole.
Great place to kill time in general.

When they say scrap they mean it. You walk in and there are barrels of things that other second hand stores would have discarded, but here someone has gone through and sorted trash into useful inexpensive items. The whole store seemed like that in that almost nothing with some propose left in it is wasted. I would love to see more stores like this pop up around the country.

Loved it, fabrics my life love the selection but some of the fabrics was hiding. Also I came there just for a buckle and left with so much fabric and no buckle because they didn't have the one I needed.

A Durham DIY institution. You never know what you will find but you can be sure it will be just what you needed. Project materials, art supplies, weird and wacky, they have it all. Equally great for kids, adults and well behaved robots.

This place is a Utopia for do-it-yourselfers, crafty kin, or artists looking for sculpture and fabric material. It is great to have so much recycled product available for you to look through that might otherwise have been tragically lost to dumps. I come here first when I am looking to get something for the house (picture frames and coat racks for example) and always end up leaving with materials for pet projects too (neighborhood phone booth library anyone?) The people who work here all seem like kind souls and everything is organized really well so it's easy to find what you're looking for if you don't have time to browse.

This is the coolest place ever. If you're crafty, or mechanical, or just like to tinker, you have to check out this place. You'll be amazed at the cool stuff you can find. And it's a great place for a kids party.

The main reason for two stars is because I didn't like how they made me feel on one visit (which was only my 3rd visit) like some children who we're there we're more important than mine. We we're told to watch the children attending a program there jus as we can walked into the entrance.

I felt some kind of way because we all could clearly see the crowd in the front area. My husband and I had our two younger children with us and the program was CLEARLY for children. As much as people hate to hear it I hate to have to experience it and what's more I hate for my children to experience it as well. The crowd of children we're white and obviously my children are not. Instead of us being informed and invited to the little event, we we're told to watch out or pretty much get out of the way of the children attending the event.

I have not been back in there since and more than likely will NOT return.

Relocated from downtown Durham to Lakewood shopping center. Way more space which really has added to their inventory of new and gently / partially used items as well as the ability to better organize the gazillions of items. This place is awesome if you are "crafty", looking for unique craft ideas, putting together costumes. Very cool and unique place. Sometimes they have art shows, too.

Weird weird weird. I love coming to this place and seeing what I can find. Old spools of thread? Check. Random certain molds? Check. $3 upholstery fabric...boom!

This place was absolutely a hidden gem!!! The outside makes it seem a lot smaller than what it actually is, it goes on and on! The staff is wonderful and very knowledgeable as well! I highly recommend coming to check it out

An eclectic mix of crafting supplies from donations. Cheap fabric, old lab glassware, various sheets and pieces of wood and plastic. Especially if you costume or make items from found objects, this is a wonderful place to spend a few hours looking through the various things they have!

Always an interesting place to shop. We wanted some foam to pad items we were putting on a trailer and they had the perfect solution. It is difficult to spend less than an hour here browsing the unusual items.
