Beautifully situated - with a view over the vineyards and the surrounding small towns on the Rhine! Here you can recharge your batteries and feel good. It is no coincidence that many of the Rheingau Music Festival events take place there. This ambience combined with this summer is just beautiful :-)

Very nice castle with a Mediterranean appearance (see pictures), beautiful view, among other things, of the St. Hildegard abbey, its own (Riesling) winery, directly adjacent basilica, a castle tavern and a wine tasting stand a little further, which has a really great view of the Rhine Towards Eltville.
The castle itself is unfortunately not open to visitors (probably never was), but you can visit it as part of public events. When I look at the topics like this, we should actually take a look ...

Beautiful, and def worth a visit! They have a nice yard where you can buy 0,1 glasses of their wines (which are very very tasty) and some Flammenkuchen
Their wine shop was very dissapointing though, you'd much expect better prices for picking bottles up directly at the wineyard!! It's a tourist trap, you can buy their bottles from online merchants incl. free delivery for significantly less...shame!

Schloss Johannisberg

Schloss Johannisberg
Das erste Rieslingweingut der welt

Schoene Gruesse aus Deutschland und Japan

If you want to move
This time, the night in front of Frankfurt station
You can get on and off with a one-day sightseeing plan Tageskarte (1 day ticket) together with Wiesbaden, Platform 24, and Ruedesheim.
The bus is also free and just show the ticket
From the Geisenheim station, take the round-trip number 183 and get off at the Friedhof bus stop (be careful as it will be very difficult to walk uphill if you make a mistake)
The return trip is also one per hour and you need to check the time first
I have experienced waiting for 30 minutes for round trip delay
Ride time is about 8 minutes, if you have time, the return trip is 30 minutes to 1 hour if you walk down the wine field
If you use a taxi , there is a number display in front of the station so it is worth using
Next time, I'll do that

Other information will be added at the time of update

Beautiful all around but not kid friendly and I had my 3 year old and 1 year old so we didnt eat at the restaurant and I was only able to do a little sampling. I'm sure it would have been much more enjoyable sans kids and with another adult.

+ Free parking

+ Free parking
+ Very clean and well maintained
+ Not overflowing

-Prices, especially for drinks
- The restaurant in the restaurant seemed to be frustrated and thus seemed quite listless, which made the bitter prices now mad .. Shame

I am fully aware that this restaurant with the location and views, as well as the "make-up" a particular clientele wants to meet and thus requires appropriate prices, but you can also overdo it.
As described above, the lady who served us seemed listless in her work. It takes quite a while before we were served (so the menus got too). When we wanted to pay now and said, we waited and waited .. determined 10 minutes have passed since we have decided to go to the cashier. What the waitress told us then she has to get her purse first ..
No apologies like Oh, excuse me, I forgot to hear you.
I mean everyone can forget something, but I do not feel comfortable as a guest.

Now to the castle:
It is very well maintained and always looks well-kept, even the view here is offered is beautiful. Without having to pay for annoying parking tickets.
You can also buy wine from the area directly on site. There we were well advised by a young lady. Thanks a lot!

We wanted to buy wine. Even though we were the only customers at the time, the salesman didn't have time fo us. You might have to wear a suit to be noticed.
Beautiful palace and awesome views, though.

Johannisberg Castle is simply incredible. Beautiful views over the Rhine river. And I love the Furst Von Metternich wines. We had dinner in the cute little restaurant and watched the sun set. It was perfect. It's easy to get to and there is plenty of parking, even for larger vehicles.

Beautiful setting and fantastic views. The food is pricey and not as tasteful as you would expect for the amount you pay. The view makes up for it again. There are nice facilities to change a child and there are child seats available.

Nice wines, nice place. Only very commercial and if that is more important than the product itself, they are not doing well yet. Uninterested saleswoman, no offer to taste anything. No, fun is different.

it's a very nice estate and beautiful view over the river. However too touristic for me as a wine lover. minus one star because their wine is really over priced and the staffs don't seem to care (due to the over crowded tourists). Compare to their neighbor wineries their wine is disappointing for me personally. Prinz von Hessen and Ress are my favorite in the region. Kloister Eberbach is similar to Schloss Johannisberg, extremely touristy. The restaurant has a great view, make sure to book in advance even for lunch on a weekend.

A beautiful winter view of the Rhine. An interesting story of the birth of the Riesling wine. A touch to the past through its Roman church. The best, few tourists by the rules of the Crown.

The view of the vineyards and the Rhine River under my eyes was very good, and the food was wonderful. However, due to poor air conditioning, terrace seating can be difficult depending on the weather.

Fantastic view from the castle restaurant on the hills of the Rheingau. The view alone is worth dining here. However, food is at best a slightly higher middle class. Trout was too salty, didn't seem completely fresh to me, plus a couple of pesto-like potatoes and spinach (also mainly salty). Wine selection is limited, mainly Riesling, upper price level. Service is mediocre friendly.

A good castle on top of a hilllock overlooking the rhein. Great view. We went after grape harvest in middle of winter hence was not green but more grey even that was a good view. Great restaurant and winery in same place and good location for photo shoot. A nice monument of a messenger carrying clearance to harvest established there. There are many stories linked to ice wine you may choose what you like most. A perfect place for a relaxed lunch or dinner
