Saxon State Opera Dresden Review

An absolute must in Dresden. Definitely worth seeing.

Semper Opera House is located on Theater Square (Theaterplatz). Here you can simultaneously admire the buildings of various architectural styles: Baroque, Renaissance, Classicism ... So, on the south side of Theater Square is the facade of the Dresden Art Gallery. Through the central passage in the gallery building you get directly into the courtyard of Zwinger. E
In addition, a monument to composer Karl Maria von-Weber-Denkmal (1786-1826), who from 1817 to 1826 was the art director of the German Opera in Dresden, was erected on Theater Square, between the opera and the Dresden Gallery . The sculptor Ernst Rietschel worked on the monument.


The facade of the opera house is crowned by the ascended quadrice of Johannes Schilling's work. The sculptural composition depicts a chariot with four panthers harnessed to it, which is ruled by the Greek god Dionysus and his wife Ariadne.

He also made two sitting figures at the entrance to the opera, depicting Goethe and Schiller (work by Ernst Ritchell). Finally, sixteen figures on the ledges on the sides of the facade depict such characters as Faust, Mephistopheles, Don Juan, the king of fairies and elves Oberon and the fairy queen Titania (from the play A Midsummer Night's Dream ).

Very nice and imposing building inside and out. Definitely worth a visit. It's just a shame that we couldn't see everything during the summer break due to renovation work

Despite being a listed building, the interior is very modern.

We had a guided tour of this one has learned a lot of interesting things the Semperoper itself is very large only the opera room itself I felt smaller than I remembered it from the television but all in all very very sumptuous

I was with my daughter (17) today for the first time in the opera. I visited the Semperoper a few years ago and loved the atmosphere. Since we live almost 1000 km far away from Dresden, this visit should be something special. We had chosen the Magic Flute and were disappointed. This beautiful opera was modernized in the performance and it was awful. Music and song were a pleasure, though.

The Magic Flute. A purchased cheap production that fills half of the stage. Badly done from A to Z. Weak set design, passionless singing. Unmotivated orchestra. However, prices like at the Scala. Shame on you, Semper Opera!

Although we have not experienced a performance, but have participated in a leadership. The building is very impressive and the story is certainly interesting. The guide was very nice and informative and recommended.

Here we have a leadership participated. This was professional and cost 11, - per person. Duration approx. 45 minutes. It's worth it.

Very attractive historical building with a sophisticated interior. The performance of the Magic Flute musically and vocally an absolute highlight. The set and the costumes took some getting used to. This is certainly a subjective opinion but just my personal one.

Classic beautiful building. It is a pity that I did not manage to get into the opera.

The Semperoper is a grandiose building. To be able to enjoy a performance here is a perfect experience. Once !!!

The building itself is beautiful, unfortunately, the leadership was very technical and very military in tone (so now all men me and listen).

I always go to the opera or the classical concert when I stay during the Christmas market season. The quality of the orchestra is high, the performances of the opera to be performed are many typical ones, and the ticket fee is cheaper than other European opera houses. Tickets can be purchased from the official site or at the ticket office facing the road.

We watched Nutcracker in Semper. Everything was amazing until the Waltz of the Snowflakes, where they had a bad quality recording instead of a choir.

Reconstruction of the opera that was destroyed in the war. Inside, the corridors and lobby are particularly interesting. The chandelier is impressive. In addition to attending a concert, a tour of the rooms is recommended.

I will keep my memory of my visit to the Semperoper for a long time. The staging of the opera was very professionally designed and oriented on the classic role model.
I would like to express a very special praise to the employees at the entrance. Because of traffic problems, unfortunately, I arrived at the end of the inlet. Nevertheless, a very friendly reception. After a short wait on a TV with live broadcast, I could then take a seat in the hall, as the audience just applauded loudly.
