Was searching for a tapas spot. A frequent fan of the Waikoloa location I wanted to go here. The girls at the desk made me feel like I wasn't worth their time. 1-1.5 hr wait when there clearly were 4 cocktail height open tables by the window. Really? That slow at turnover? I would have settled with the bar but there is not nearly enough space to gather if you aren't sitting directly in front of the bar. I went elsewhere.

First off it took us over 15 minutes to find the place, even when we were standing outside of it. Nowhere does it say that they are located on the 3rd floor (already irritating). Second, they asked us for ID at 10:30, my wife didn t bring her ID because we didn t have the intention to drink. We just simply wanted to sit down and grab a few rolls of sushi, and walked 15minutes just to get that. They denied our business. What kind of a sushi restaurant requires ID to get in? It s not like we were going to a bar or a club, ridiculous!!! Waste of our time, Ruined our night

Best sushi I have had hands down...there simply is no comparison, and I am an avid sushi lover! Fresh, quality ingredients. I'm coming back very soon Hawaii, and believe me, I will be visiting Sansei more than once

Had family visiting and we thought we'd try Sansei, as it sounded good and catered to my mother's celiac disease. We made a reservation for 7:30. We actually wound up close to the restaurant a but early so we checked if we could be seated early around 7. The hostess said they had to get the 7 o'clock reservations first and would text us. Makes sense. So we waited and at 7:26 we never got a text but it was only a few minutes before our reservation so we decided to go back in, assuming they'd have a table for our reservation. Again we were told they had to wait for the 7 o'clock customers to come in and wed have to wait. This gave priority to customers who show up 30 minutes late. We ended up waiting since we were had already been there for over a half hour. Service otherwise was ok. Food was a bit disappointing. Not sure I'd try it again. My advice...if you want a seat, show up late for your reservation.

If you look at the menu on the net, each dish is cheap, so it might seem cheap, but the amount is so small that it is so expensive.
I thought it was delicious when I visited in September 2013, but it wasn't so in August 2016.

Good

They put wasabi under the sushi where you can t see it. Had to order more sushi without the wasabi just so my kids could eat it.. never seen this practice before!! I m from Alaska where sea food is fresh. Wasn t impressed with the quality of fish...

Fantastic menu! Recommend sitting at the bar so you can order off both the sushi menu and the d.k. steak house menu! The Hamachi Kama is amazing! Great service from Zach and Ryan! Thank you guys for 3 evenings of top service!

Good fusion restaurant. It adds an original touch to many of their Japanese dishes, some of them very unique! It doesn't mean they will necessarily be a hit though. Fresh and high quality otherwise!

We love sushi and this restaurant with high rating and close proximity to the hotel we were staying was the logical choice for us to visit.

It is located in the Marriott building sharing the same entrance with DK steakhouse thus it can be a little difficult to find.

We arrived around 8 PM and was seated immediately at the bar section. The service was great with the chef at the bar attending to our needs diligently.

We ordered two glasses of alcoholic beverages which were pretty good and to our liking. But we were not there for the drinks.

The sushi platter was good with the meat fresh and tender that you know they were fresh with high quality. However, that was not outstanding but simply inline with what I would expect to get from a relevantly high end sushi restaurant. The rolls we ordered was also pretty good but again failed to surprise us.

Overall I think this was a good experience though do not expect to be surprised. I ve read the reviews that said this place offer happy hour with 50% off the sushi menu. If that s the case then I d say this would be a great deal to take advantage of. At full price, this is not all that outstanding.

This is our second experience at Sansei and we love it! It's hard to find the perfect mix of good quality sushi that doesn't break the bank....Sansei does this perfectly. We had the miso soup, Sansei special roll, caterpillar roll, and some sushi. We'll be back next time we are in Hawaii!

Sushi, service and staff were fantastic! Before coming to Sansei, we felt that the best sushi we've had was in Vancouver, British Columbia. Sansei has come close and possibly even topped that experience! Price was reasonable for the quality.

The food and service were amazing! I was surprised how quickly food was on the table after we ordered. We had a large group of 12 people and everything came out perfectly. The next time I overhear anyone talking about visiting Honolulu, I will tell them they absolutely must go to Sansei!

Thoroughly enjoyed their "homegrown menu" 5-course dinner, featuring all locally-sourced foods. Absolutely amazing! Bonus points to our server for knowing the ingredients in the dishes as well as the background on each of the wine selections! Definitely sit outside if possible, the chairs are much more comfortable if you plan on staying a while. Prices are as expected for fresh ingredients and quality dishes. Top notch!

Ok. This is one of the best places for sushi in the world! The butter fish will have you sitting up and paying attention! Awesome place with late night happy hour on pupus. Make a reservation during meal times to avoid the long line!

service was terrible. table of 8. 15 minutes before the closing wait staff gave us last call. felt very rushed -we hadn't even been offered dessert! she gave very basic courtesy otherwise, as though we were at a diner.
the Teri beef app had good flavor but tough. calamari app and opah entree cooked dry!!! edamame done right. decent sushi.
it was disappointing considering how much we spent-the food was much better at other cheaper and more service conscious restaurants around Honolulu.
it's loud and a fun atmosphere so it's too bad I will never recommend or return.
