Good atmosphere, made reservations online and got seated right away. seafood proportions are very small compared to $$$ dont get the salmon and prawn. You get one prawn and salmon comes on the raw side. If i wanted it uncooked i would of ordered sushi.

Butterfish was good however main entree was disappointing and this is first time in my life I had to return a dish back to kitchen. I had grilled Hawaian ago and award winning shrimp cake.
Good food, I had a lot of sushi at this place. It has karaoke also which is entertaining. Not the absolute best sushi I've had but it was still good food.
Our waiter wasn t great at advising us on dishes. I wanted sushi and when asked for suggestions was told it s all good . He then did finally suggest one dish but it wasn t what I wanted at all (huge sushi roll with minimal flavour). I ended up ordering a plate of sashimi after. My friend asked if the calamari was in a sauce and then waiter didn t describe the sauce well (it was sweet and sticky, not hot as described) so when it arrived we ended up leaving most of it and ordering the plain calamari.
I m used to wait staff offering brilliant suggestions in US restaurants so was surprised by this, maybe he was new, but it kind of spoilt our evening and I wish he d asked someone else to pop over with suggestions as I think the food was probably delicious if we d made better decisions.
Some of the best sushi I ve ever had. I was on a solo trip wearing quite casual attire, but they didn t bat an eyelid. Seated at the sushi bar, given a drink at happy hour price with 1 minute left (the waiter made sure he waited for my order so I made it in time!). The chef at the bar asked me questions and made small talk while he prepared my food. The Ahi carpaccio was AMAZING. I also asked for a dragonfly roll with added salmon and the chef was happy to accommodate. Great experience, I would love to go back tomorrow!
Awesome Japanese-Hawaiian fusion restaurant. Decent selection of Sake and even Plum wine. The Sansei specials are a must! = really delicious. Make sure to book beforehand this place gets busy, and will accept large bookings.
Best sushi ever! Dynamite shrimp is a must! Food and customer service was so good, we went almost every other day on our holiday! The desserts are amazing! Love this place!
Good American sushi and good service. Nothing disappointing, but also nothing crazy great. They had a wide menu of Japanese fusion dishes, sushi rolls and Japanese nigiri as well. We had the spider and Takah which were both yum!
Disappointing experience, although past experiences haven't been this poor before, but it's like they weren't ready for their kamaaina happy hour on a Sunday evening? Waitress forgot a lot of our food and had to be reminded and then at the end, we found out we had paid for something that never came to the table, so we had to wait for the food to come out and take it to go...food was great though! Flavors were all on point
Friendly and helpful staff. Sashimi seemed fresh, Uni was amazingly buttery and from Hokkaido, Japan. The toro still had a bone in it and the fascia. Good drinks. Tried the cucumber one but light on the alcohol. Overall recommended but has some room for improvement.
Sushimi was great. Service was good too. Not too expensive and atmosphere was nice. Sir at the bar and you can order from DK steakhouse and Sansei. Both have good food.
Average sushi at best, wouldn't recommend getting the Nissei sushi combo. The Nigiri was plain tasting and was nothing to write home about. The spicy tuna rolls had barely any tuna. I tried another member of my parties California roll and wasn't impressed.
If you're in Hawaii on one of the islands where there's a Sansei, you must stop in for some great food. Check around for their 50% off specials (on Honolulu it's Sun/Mon before 6p). The food is really good, the seafood is fresh, and it's a good atmosphere. On one trip, we had 3 nights to eat dinner and ate Sansei's for 2 of the 3 nights.
The restaurant was about 30 minutes late in seating us, but made up for it with an apology and extremely attentive service. The panko ahi app and otoro sashimi were excellent. Highly recommend.
This sushi bar here has a great atmosphere; smack dab in the middle of 'touristy' attractive Waikiki, locals can come and have a grand old time enjoying some of the best sushi rolls on island, let alone in the 'keys'
There's a special time to get good prices, and you'll have to visit to figure that out!
All round the perfect place to go when looking for outstanding food, wonderful service and a great time!! Sansei is a must for anyone who is in the Waikiki area.
We went here twice and sat at the bar both times. We were pleasantly surprised that you could order from the steakhouse menu at the bar also. Sushi was good and the drinks were great.
The fish is very fresh and the food tastes very good, the price-quality ratio is very good, what fails them is the reception the hostess are slow and not friendly, even though it is not full they make you wait.
Had 2 rounds of the baked sea scallops! They were seared perfectly and very juicy. Pretty much ate everything that was labeled "a must try" on the menu and I see exactly what they mean. Great service and great ambiance!
They told me that the wait was 45 minutes and they put down my name and phone number in the system. 30 minutes later they called me to tell me that for the day, they will not allow more guests, not even me that I was on the list. What a terrible service. The worst part is that I was with my baby daughter, almost bet time for her, and they made me wait 30 minutes for nothing. That's so disrespectful. I have never experienced something like this in a restaurant. Worst customer service ever.
It was our last night in Hawaii and couldn't believe we didnt get to Sansei sooner. My wife and I both agree it was one of the best sushi places we've ever been to. Also half price on Saturdays after 10 is unbelievable
First of all: Great quality fish - i am very picky with tuna, but LOVED theirs. Loved the price offers for late dining (after 10pm) and early dining (at 5.30pm) where we got 50% of food bill. GREAT and innovative sushi rolls. Good service and loved to sit on the balcony with the view of the sea. Atmosphere was great on the balcony, less impressed with their indoor environment.
We had crab ramen, dragonfly roll, and shrimp. I loved ramen and roll but the shrimp was bit salty because of the sauce. Atmosphere was great and the service was awesome.
Everything was amazing. Four of us shared many different appetizers and rolls to try as much as possible. One roll we ordered a second tume because it was so good.
Absolutely amazing!!! I highly recommend it. Ask to sit outside, we went @ night time and they had tiki torches lit up. Entrees sounded good but we only went for the rolls. Will be back!
Very good sushi! Came here many times on our honeymoon! Right near our hotel. Went again on the other islands. We learned quick to go early or it got busy.
Good god, this place was amazing! We did nt have reservations, but they still had a nice table on the patio with great views of the sunset. The menu was filled with amazingly delicious food, but we settled for a few plates that sounded delicious. The fish was wonderfully fresh, the restaurant was inviting and the staff was super friendly and so personable. Warren is the man! He guided us through the menu like a seasoned veteran. DO NOT pass this place up, you will regret it!
It wasn t super easy to find. The signage is terrible. But it is located on the 3rd floor of the building, which you can access through stairs or an elevator. The restrooms are outside of the restaurant in the hotel area.
The sushi was pretty good. They have a huge menu for everyone s taste. I enjoyed the 69 Roll the best. It was a California roll with unagi (eel) on top. Our server said that everything off the award winners section of the menu was amazing, so we decided to try the Japanese Calamari Salad and that was the best idea as it was my fave dish that I had.
The service was friendly and the food came out very fast.
Sansei is one of the better sushi restaurants in Honolulu. If you like lots of creative combinations and funky sauces, this is the place to go. If you're looking for more traditional sushi, try somewhere else. The atmosphere is pretty fun and they have some great late night happy hours.
Food was very good but lacking in service and atmosphere. We felt very rushed and was told 3 separate times they were closing early tonight. We were in and out in a half hour so not a real special dinner. The food and dinner could have been better enjoyed.
Our experience was typical to the other post I read. The sushi was descent but not anything write home about. Validated parking at the Marriott was nice and close.
Their shrimp appetizer was phenomenal. I cannot stop thinking about it. It was flavorful and decadent. Our waitress was funny, kind, and always around if we needed something. Really made the night memorable and enjoyable. I would move here just to eat their food. The sushi was fresh and larger portions (i had ten rolls on a rainbow roll). Plus the hibiscus pineapple drink was fantastic. I highly recommend to any one that enjoys sushi.
U a sushi connoisseur? You'll understand when I say that it's a place for the American folk. It's not for you. Sushi rice was horrible, nori was soggy and just as bad, all the chopped fish was all the left over throw away pieces and the rolls were loose. If you're looking for creative rolls that may the taste of fish then you're in the right place. It's sad to say that this was my first HI sushi experience. Maybe I'm just spoiled in Seattle.
Best sushi I have had, and I am a sushi lover! Fresh, quality ingredients. I'm coming back very soon Hawaii, and believe me, I will be visiting Sansei more than once
Great ambiance good sushi good food every Saturdays they have a DJ this place has also has late night happy hours that are amazing for everyone's budget
Overall, this was a nice spot with good food but it wasn't spectacular like one of the locals explained.
Food 4/5
We ended up getting the Lobster and Blue Crab Ravioli, Mango Crab Salad Hand Roll, Spider Roll, and 69 Roll. The Lobster/Blue Crab Ravioli and Spider Roll were REALLY GOOD! The sauce they put on the Spider Roll was incredible. Everything else was good but it didn't blow my doors off.
Atmosphere 4/5
The place was nice. It's on the 3rd floor of a hotel and there were some outdoor seats. We had a seat next to a giant glass window, which was nice. However, this place is about the food, not the experience.
