Sandbox Studios Review

THE STAFF WAS INCOMPETENT and RUDE and made the entire experience uncomfortable! I am completely astounded that this is the staff they hired to be customer facing here are some examples, the staff swore around the kids, we were told if we stay 1 minute over we will be charged for another hour and we used confetti and were told not to worry about cleaning it up and in the end they ended up keeping half our deposit over that! The studio itself is small, no waiting room or seating area. Altogether, a horrible experience and I would never recommend this to any friends or family.

Update due to owner response:
1. Completely understand based on the owner's reply where customer service foundations come from.
2. To clarify - there was 16 adults and 10 children. And not the exaggerated 40 people claimed below. Happy to post pictures if you doubt that. Perhaps that will help you define what your true maximum capacity is.
3. As parents we were trying to keep the kids off the wall and your staff was watching us the entire time and did not hesitate to point out when they thought there was an issue. And for you to claim we did not care, again speaks volumes to the type of environment both you and your staff created.
4. This still does not explain why you had to swear around young kids. My son told me that he heard the lady say 'We are never doing this s*** again' so then I believe it was you who was doing the swearing. On our side we were frustrated as well but I don't recall us having to swear.
5. If the wall was so severely damaged then why did you return half the deposit? We were told that half was kept due to your staff having to pick up confetti off the floor which we offered to do.

If you feel your response below justifies both your and your staff's behavior then as I mentioned if that is what people want to experience then feel free to book here. However, if you have kids or have more than 2-4 people then please do yourself a favour and book elsewhere.

LOVE Sandbox Studio! They've always been my go to for post audio for my films and now they are my go to for events at their new location .

From the moment you walk through the doors there is such a positive vibe. They are not only focused on recording whatever music you bring to them, but focused on helping you develop as an artist. This place is dope and I fully recommend to everyone wanting to take their music to the next level!

Quick and seem-less session. The engineer by the name of Eyes was not only a great engineer, but a great host as well. Definitely would recommend spending your money here.

Although I did not go to Sandbox Studios to record, I was still greeted with wonderful service. I was grateful for the warm welcome as it was my first time there. I am a music manager, who has recorded with my artist at several studios and faced the ups and downs that come with it. The experience at Sandbox Studios was absolutely positive, within moments we had established a very comfortable relationship and was off to work to one of the most productive studio sessions possible. The team is great and the space was comfortable. Cheers to many great sounds coming from this studio!

Sandbox Studios was dope! The owner, Rooks, was really humble and down to earth and she uplifted the artist recording in the studio encouraging to keep pushing in the industry. The audio engineer, Yuri, was very nice and knows what he is doing. Very kind and also talented with musical background knowledge. There was a miscommunication with the pricing and I was short by a large margin and the owner said She will cover the rest. Unbelievable. If you are contemplating on what studio to use in Toronto, Sandbox is the way to go! they even have a photo studio as well. 5 stars all the way!

Being relatively new to the studio experience, I was in need of professional guidance and a steady diet of patience. This is exactly what I was given in my first session at Sandbox Studios.
The lead engineer, KR, is vastly experienced, extremely competent, and most importantly, patient with his clients. He is genuinely invested in your vision and works towards getting the best out of the artist, all while adding his skill and unique touch to the product. The culmination is the maximization of potential that your product is capable of. Definitely recommend!

The best studio I've gone to, and happy to call Sandbox my home studio! Even with having a 1 year old son, they allow me to bring him and watch him while I record, which is SUPER helpful. Big up Sandbox!

We booked this space for a family photoshoot- unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience due to the horrible customer service from the unprofessional & disrespectful staff. Staff spoke rudely to us and even used foul language in front of our children.
We used confetti and balloons during our shoot and we were specifically told, by the gentleman that was watching us like a hawk the whole time, that we need to clean up the balloons ONLY. We asked and confirmed this with him numerous times before leaving the confetti as we brought a broom and garbage bag to clean the confetti ourselves but because the staff member assured us that only the balloons need to be cleaned up - we left the confetti behind. At the end, a portion of our deposit was held stating that we left confetti on the floor - confetti that we were TOLD to leave behind!
The room was thoroughly inspected by the staff as we were leaving and no one informed us of any damage to the walls - because there was NO damage. If there was damage and it was as severe as stated in the owner's response on other reviews - why on earth did we get half of the deposit back? And why was the "severe damage" to the wall not mentioned at the time? Surely a "destroyed" wall would require more than $70 to fix - yet that's what was kept stating that it was for leaving the confetti behind.
I normally do not leave negative reviews but accusing customers of doing something that they did not do just to justify the horrible way you treated them is just ridiculous.
Also, i noticed 8 new 5 star reviews in the 1 day since my cousin's first post regarding this issue which leads me to question all of these positive reviews.

Rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. Do not recommend booking with them.

Everything about sandbox is surrounded with genuine integrity and honestly it feels like home. If you want to feel like you have nothing to lose and have nothing but positive motivation towards your purpose. Go play in the sandbox.

I booked this studio for a photoshoot and it was such a great experience. Very comfortable, affordable, and run by great folks! There's also a recording studio and the soundproofing is fantastic.

The equipement is there. The space is dope and the staff are THE BEST!!

Easily the best studio I've ever been to.You can tell they genuinely care about developing you as an artist more than anything which should be the main focus of anyone who chooses Sandbox Studios. They'll certainly help you grow and anything recorded here is bound to sound amazing so the quality shouldn't be of any concern whatsoever. Overall, it was a pleasant experience working with the staff - a relationship i want to put effort and build upon overtime so I'll definitely be coming back very soon!

An extremely great studio with a relaxing atmosphere. This was my first official studio, and the knowledge, experience and feedback you'll obtain from KR, is priceless.

This experience was not what my family and I expected. The staff was very unprofessional and disrespectful, which made our group feel uneasy.

The owner was pacing in and out of the studio while we were taking photos, making comments about how they should not have let us book the space. While threatening to cancel our booking the owner made a scene, stating that we needed to pay for any damages if need be, to which we had repeatedly said we would.

Once the the shoot was done, the owner gave us back the deposit, and grabbed an extra 20$ from my sisters hand, insisting that it was for cleaning, even though the staff agreed to let us clean the space, as we brought our own broom and dustpan.

Overall, this was not what my family and I had planned for a Sunday afternoon together. We understand that the owner was worried about damages, but there are other ways to speak to your customers. Horrible customer service!!

I love Sandbox! They're a one stop shop. They've rebranded me, recorded me, and managed my project. I went from not performing to opening for Melanie Fiona. They know the music industry, what it wants and how to make it work for you! If you're really serious about growing as an artist, this is the spot, it's welcoming and warm.

The engineer knows what he's doing, the mood is spot on, and last but not least the sound quality is top notch !

This will always be the best creative space in ALL of Toronto. Not only are the staff friendly, professional and very creative themselves but they're always doing their best to help out with your specific project. If you're looking for an affordable, and high quality creative space for either video/photo production or for the recording studio, this is the place to be at.

Location is convenient- close to downtown, their booking is very easy,simple and fast, as well as their spaces are industry standard when it comes to productions.

Lots of good parking outside for your group, there a lounge area with change room and washroom.

Its was my first time there. My producer brought me down and i brought my guitarist. And we both enjoyed ourselves. So much space that many instruments can be set up in there. And good tea choices.. Oh yea they have tea! Lol

I have been going to Sandbox for months now and I always receive the same warm welcome with a hug! Here it s more about making sure the vibe is great before music and recording starts! The love is real!

Best engineers I have worked with by far!

Very friendly environment, the engineers will give you input on your ideas and will do to their best of their abilities to accomplish your ideas into a reality. KR mixing and mastering is on a 1000. The superman of mixing!

My family (about 25 people including some kids) was super excited for their photoshoot at Sandbox. Unfortunately the experience with the staff was horrible! The staff were rude and treated the kids poorly -- very unprofessional. I would not recommend this place to anyone, and if someone mentioned considering them, I'd steer them clear of this place!

For artists, producers or anyone in the music business this is the place you wanna be and those are the people you wanna know.

Such an inspiring space to be in with supportive and helpful people who genuinely care about seeing you put your best foot forward, while helping you take the steps to get there! Getting help recording a song and learning from artist development programs was such a great experience. This studio is more than a quality recording facility; but also a space to grow as an artist.

I've utilized their facilities twice and I plan on using them in the near and far future as well. The location is more than convenient, also they are always accommodating to their clients and communication is always %100 thorough. I appreciate it. Thank you

This space is ideal. The creative niche Toronto needs!

The space is not overly gaudy and vain; it doesn't boast of false promises and obscure accomplishments. It's a quaint, comfortable home away from home for creatives.

I enjoyed the professionalism on part of the engineer. He took the time to adjust the mic, offered water (cool or room temp) and even allowed me to pick the colours of the session!

The manager came out and personally introduced herself. She ensured that she was there should I need anything and I really believed her.

The session went great. We went slightly over time and I wasn't charged for it. After the session, I received a professional email with the songs I had done that session and the rates should I wish to return. You better believe I did :)

All in all, Sandbox is the ideal spot for artists.

Sir KR Moore is an amazing engineer. Generous with advice and has a great vibe that fosters creativity in the studio.

First time and it went well they really help you find your sound. If you looking for a studio where you need help time learn more about your music and quality in your music this the studio for you and the price is very nice give it a try.

First actual studio I've recorded in and it was a dope experience. KR is amazing at what he does and the vibe there is super chill. Was nervous before I started recording, but that went away super quick cause of how comfortable they make you feel. 6/5 if I could.

THE STAFF AND MANAGMENT IS INCOMPETENT! I Went in for 3 seperate sessions the first 3 sessions were sent to me incomplete. Upom telling the staff this I was given no apology or compensation and was asked to book 3 more sessions at full price only to have them make the exact same mistake. I am now out hundreds of dollars with a bunch of incomplete music that the staff is refusing to that I must now send off to meet my deadline. I WILL NEVER BRING MY BUISNESS HERE AGAIN!!!

I have never had such an uplifting and emotional experience inside a recording studio. Oh my goodness, I was just here recording my spoken word. KR Moore was so kind enough to show me the technical process and how recording works. It was my first piece recording professionally tonight. I had the best time. I learned and lived and I will definitely come again. A big thank you to Rookz and Nallis Lee. Rookz has definitely got me hooked on my art again in this respect. One of the dopest studios in Toronto. Shoutout to Sir KR Moore the senior engineer at sandbox studios for helping the vision come to fruition. And the creative Rookz who's responsible for the sandbox studios experience. All the while spearheading such a welcoming and motivating space for artist to be themselves and find their voice in a world that all to often tries to censor and deter us from being what and who we're meant to be. This universe is meant for something new and forever changing and anyone who wishes to become something better than themselves sandbox studios is the place to be.

Used sandbox to host a rehearsal for my show. Staff was very helpful and understanding given our large group. Suggest taking advantage of renting full room for large group sizes. I will be back soon =D

Its very rare you find a space where you not only feel welcomed and comfortable- but also you feel inspired and accepted. Sandbox offered that, and so much more. Visiting Sandbox for the first time, I learned so much from Kiana, as we spent hours just speaking and building on my goals and my past experiences. She really listened to me, and also asked me for ideas in other areas as well. Sandbox isn't just a regular studio where you record and then that's it. Its an experience, a character building experience. Its rare that the studio owner actually interacts with the customers, but Kiana is very welcoming and open which made my experiences and interactions that much more special. Every little detail, form the paintings on the wall to the open concept layout of the environment, I find, helps my creativity also.

The atmosphere is very comfortable, and easy to settle down in. Considering how it was during my first session, I'd have to say that the prices are extremely worth it. The people there are very helpful, friendly, and welcoming. Also patient. Definitely going to go again soon. If you're an aspiring artist who wants to take your things to the next level, and resources are hard to come by, I would definitely recommend starting here.
