Maybe I had really high expectations for this place but all the animals look sad, I really expect a lot of animals but there's not that much, also the place is suuuper huge you get tired fast, I always wanted to go SD Zoo I can say it's beautiful but animals seems not to be happy, the ticket cost $50 usd plus taxes for a regular Mexican tourist that it's a hole week of job! I ate a I get one souvenir glass($20), tje merchandise is amazing but also expensive.

This really lives up to the title of world famous. You can completely lose yourself and spend the entire day and feel rushed. Annual passports are really a good deal and worth looking into if you would like to visit the Zoo twice or more in a year. The food isn't bad, not what I would call world class, but it's not bad by any means. The park is incredibly clean, think Disneyland or cleaner, and the whole Zoo is beautiful no matter what area you are in. Unlike some other Zoos, there are very few exhibits that are empty and even if you don't see a specific animal, the atmosphere is just as engaging. Only thing to note is that you need to be prepared to walk and hike up and down hills. If you take nothing else from this, know it is a must visit!

This zoo is amazing. The way that they were able to make you feel close to the animals is incredible. I recommend this for ALL ages. I was both amazed and excited to continue looking for animals that I normally couldn't see because I love in NYC.

A somewhat confusing pattern to the zoo. Followed their map and still thought too many ways to go. Thank god for the 2 buses that are included in the zoo admission fee. The tram is also included, that got us to the back of the zoo twice. Some of the pens are old looking. I still feel no one can go to San Diego without going to the zoo. Give yourself a lot of time, patience and really good shoes.

So many animals to see. So easy to lose ones self in the many different settings. Parking lot is huge but even so it fills rather quickly. While it is wheel chair friendly there are some slopes to push up and they are easily rented at the kiosk.

currently visiting while posting and loving it! very handicap accessible, making very good time even with a handicap family member thanks to the paths! albert's has delicious food, the garlic cheesy bread AMAZING. outside seating with waterfall is gorgeous!

Amazing place. You felt like the animals belonged there as you walked through the paths and enclosures. Take the bus tour to get an overall feel, then take some walks to get up close. The gorillas were amazing

I love coming to the San Diego Zoo. So many animals to see, and the plant life is fantastic as well! The Skyfari Sky Tram is included with the price of admission, so make sure to ride it while you visit.
The Children's Zoo is under construction, which was a little sad, but there is still plenty for kids to do, several little play areas are scattered throughout.

Not only is this zoo an incredible place to visit, but their social media presence allows you to follow along as the animals you love grow up, get bigger, and become ambassadors for their species and conservation. It makes for quite a fun experience.

The cats (tigers, lions, jaguar etc.) all looked really anxious and were pacing (I think this is a sign of mental illness/frustration?..). Some of the animals looked like they had more space and stimulation but the cats just looked like they were trapped and sad. I understand they are rescue animals but this is not enough for them.

The zoo overall, was underwhelming and helped me remember why I never liked zoos.

Best zoo I have ever been to visit. Too big to do justice to in one day. Skylight and train give interesting quicker perspective of zoo instead of walking. Water and food are expensive.

The whole family had an outstanding wonderful time at this zoo. We will definitely return if in Sand Diego again. The ticket price to get in might seem pretty high, but after actually going and experiencing everything the price is well worth it.

Been a few times always enjoy. This last trip we took 13 month old son. He enjoyed the animals and the walking. Such a beautiful place to go for a walk. Buy the membership if you live close by, so many perks come with it. It's the San Diego zoo what more can I say.

Get a 2 day pass and take your time there is a lot to see! Tha kangaroo bus is a good way to save some steps. Make sure you wear a hat as there are many sections of the park with little shade that you will want to spend time in.

Take the bus tour first. Then work your way clockwise. It was a huge bummer that the aviarys were all closed and that the children's zoo was closed too. 4 stars because so much was closed down, otherwise 5 star zoo!

What a great place to visit. My advice is to take the 30 minute bus tour upon arrival. It helps orientate you to the park and the drivers are informative and amusing. So many endangered species are cared for here which plays an important part in wildlife conservation. My only gripe would be that the tour buses burn fossil fuel and that to help improve their eco credentials, San Diego Zoo should consider switching to electric powered vehicles.

Wow! This zoo lives up to the hype. It's a beautiful place to wind around, explore and see the incredible animals. The landscaping is world class and makes the experience even more special as you meander through beautiful vegetation from exhibit to exhibit. The day was cool and the animals were in action! It was a wonderful day. The food was even pretty good as zoo food goes. This was a memorable place to spend a day in San Diego.

Great zoo, we spent over 5 hours walking around. The maps were a bit confusing and they had some people posted around the park asking for subscription donations that looked like Zoo keepers so it felt almost like a trap to get you to talk to them and then they made you feel guilty when you politely declined to signup for recurring donations.

The best ZOO I have ever been to. It is a great place to show kids the animals in their natural condition. We spent a whole day there but would like to continue our journey the next day. A lot of fun.

Best zoo ever and many many animals. If you are in San Diego it is totally worth going to the zoo. It has had so many improvements in the last few years. They actually have a pretty nice price on food for a zoo. There itemd are pretty expensive though.

This zoo keeps on getting better and better. Love the additions and improvements over the years. The atmosphere is outstanding with wonderful plants that make you feel out of this world. However I did not buy the additional option for the Safari Park as I was disappointed in that it is nothing like the main zoo.

This is the biggest zoo I have ever been. Parking was easy if you arrive early in the morning around 10:30 am or earlier. There is a kiosk to buy your tickets. But it is better if you buy tickets online because ticket booth takes forever. I see no use in riding the zoo bus because you do not get to see all the animals. It is better to walk if you are able. Tons of animals to see. Favorites: elephants, and the Hipos. Great place I will come back with my daughters again.

It is a beautiful zoo. Expensive to get in. Ifyou get the souvenir cups for $625 you get refills for $1.99 all day. Save your cup if you have multiple day passes they let you bring them back. Same with the popcorn buckets for $8.99 you get the bucket and a large bage of popcorn. You will get refills for less all day every day aswell. Also with the cup you can get free ice water in the cafe's.

Expensive, bus tour needs to be more better as sound not good, all buss required brakes maintenance and most of the way covered by plants which Hinder vision. Parking numbering is really confusing without clear numbers, just 1 to 4 zones but without any rows order just animals.

Many many different stuff to see. Birds, monkeys, snakes, elephants, turtles, ... We had a great time as well as our son. Come early an plan to spend the full day. They only downside is probably the food in the park but you don't really go there to eat do you ?

Possibly one of the best zoos in America. Located at beautiful Balboa means you can make this apart of a wonderful family day,but make sure you are wearing your waking shoes. This place is huge and very hilly. There are many maps located throughout the park but you still may find yourself getting lost at least once.

My second favorite Zoo in the US (first place is Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium). The SD Zoo is massive and there are SO many animals here with really nice habitats. It may take more than one visit if you want to see everything.

This is the BEST Zoo in the entire country! Under COVID-19, the Zoo was very Clean and at 50% capacity allowed, there is ample of space to keep 6 feets distance. It is in Open space. Thus, the best & safe place to visit in this pandemic & quarantine. Animals were very friendly and interactive, since they haven't seen humans for a while.

Great experience, clean, beautiful habitats, easy to see animals. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to explore all the habitats. Maybe pack some food and drink... not cheap at the concessions.

There is a reason this zoo is consistently ranked as the best in the world. They have excellent animal enclosures and the animals all seem enriched and stimulated. Arrive when it opens and plan your route well! I highly recommend the bus tour as it gives views of some areas that are better than the pedestrian view. The food was so good, and the ice cream at the Chinese area was excellent! THEY HAVE BEER! Gift shop has an excellent selection and staff throughout the park are incredibly friendly. If I lived in San Diego I'd sign up for a membership ASAP!

We visit San Diego every few years from Ontario. We go to the zoo every time. Clean well cared for and lots to see. A truly great relaxing place to visit and so many amazing inhabitants to see.
It is a must for travellers to visit. You will not be disappointed.

A very educational experience! Regarding the zoo: Tour buses, affordable annual memberships esp if you are renewing, exotic plants, wildlife. play area for kids, reptiles, beautiful flamingoes, nice gift shops. My son loves the skyfari so we tend to do that a little more. Weekdays are much less crowded, nicely decorated during Christmas season, live singing near the entrance during summer months! Really enjoy the zoo, nicely located walking distance to Balboa Park! Have not yet done too much of the Safari Park.

Great place for entertainment in San Diego. SD Zoo has a good variety of animals and a great structure for a family tour. Kids will love it! And keep in mind: dont give food for the animals! Enjoy! [there are parking spaces at the front of the zoo.]

Not a big fan and caged animals. Educational for kids though. I thought some of the lions areas were too small, they need more space.
We took the bus around the zoo. I personally don't recommend it. You're better off walking around. I say this because you can't see half the animals from the bus.
Huge diversity of animals..

Exhibits were very generous. Animals seemed happy and birds had roaming space (I've been to zoos where birds are chained for the majority of the day). Lots of animals to see and an overall great experience.

Love love love this zoo. Great exhibits, so many animals. They have an awesome restaurant here that has a bar until 3:30. Hours vary, check website. Bathrooms are well maintained and there are refreshments and snacks everywhere you go. Kids play area is nice to get some energy out while you drink your zoo double margarita : p Season passes are worth it if you live near the area.
