I was blown away! I've always heard the San Diego zoo was one of the best in world, but I couldn't have imagined what I saw. So we started our zoo experience with the guided bus tour and Skyfari. This is a really big park and doing these first will give some direction and help you familiarize yourself with the park before walking through. The amount of animals here and the work the zoo is doing to preserve endangered animals is impressive! It's also apparent there's an overwhelming commitment of reinvestment into improving the exhibits. As several improvement projects were both underway and or recently completed. I will certainly keep this on my list of places to visit next time I'm in SD!

A wonderful place to see and learn about animals. The new Africa Rocks region is fantastic, and the scale is unbelievable. Memberships are surprisingly affordable and an undeniable value for couples or families that live in San Diego.

Kids always love coming to the zoo! The kangaroo bus is totally worth it to get to see all the animals. The guided tour bus is also nice and you get to see all the animals. Parking is free which is also a huge bonus as the wild animal park and sea world both charge at least $15. This is a great place for interactive fun for all ages. The holiday lights was a blast.

Who doesn't love the zoo. Our only issue was with the bus tour. We got stuck in the sun waiting for a new driver because of a roll back. It wasn't a bad roll back. I think she should have kept going with the tour. Just do the skyline tour. You don't get to see much on the bus tour.

Under construction, No Problem, plenty to see and do, enough places to eat and find a bathroom. I want to come back to see the new areas for several of the animal species; Large animals, and they have it all!! Needed 2 more days but my schedule did not permit. I was impressed by what I saw.

I thought it would be impossible to finish this zoo in one day, but we did it! Comfy shoes, lots of water & zero kids in tow, we did what we thought we couldn't do (I say zero kids in tow because I think mine would have definitely prolonged everything lol). We took an early guided tour on the double decker bus (sitting up top is fun, but I think you'd be able to see more sitting on the bottom half of the bus, more eye level to the exhibits). We then took the SkyTram from the front of the park, to the back & followed the map in a way that we were able to see every part of the zoo & each exhibit. It was a lot of fun & great exercise! Definitely wear comfy shoes! You can bring your own lunch/snacks/drinks in if you'd like. Tons of gift shops & plenty of restrooms throughout the entire park. It was super clean, too! Parking was free & there was plenty when we got there at opening. It definitely took taking a close look at the map to get to see everything, our zoos back home are basically a giant circle, but it is so worth it. Beautiful & you really get to see the animals pretty up close in their habitats! All of the monkey family was a ton of fun to watch!!

My kids loved it, but it was hard to see animals most of them will hide in the shade and they need to figure out a way to make the panda access more accessible because a lot of people was waiting for for than 2hrs to see him just for 2min. I couldn't see it my kids were too hot

I'm about a third to half way through and it's great! The bus tour when you first enter the park is a great way to find where you want to go. The walk isn't bad at all, but have some comfy shoes for sure!

It was amazing to visit San Diego Zoo, there were plenty of places to eat and drink on the walk around the zoo. The zookeepers were very informative and friendly, making the visit very enjoyable. Prices were very affordable and we bought a few keepsakes from the gift stores. A definite if you're visiting San Diego!

We have season passes and just recently bought a couple more for our young nieces. I can't say enough about this place; it's a lot of fun. I love what they do for the animals and knowledgeable they are. We go almost every weekend, the food is a little pricey like you would expect any park to be but sometimes we don't eat inside the park. The margaritas are delicious!

It truly is 1 of the best Zoo's in the United states. It was enjoyable for all ages. We had children with us and they absolutely loved it. There's a lot too see. Its and all day thing dont believe you can make it through in a couple hours, because there's no way you can. Without seeing all the great things they have to offer. I will make a return visit.

I love the San Diego Zoo. It's one of the most amazing places in the world to me, and having grown up in San Diego, I always had a zoo pass! Always wonderful new exhibits. I never miss a chance to see everything I can, or get a good workout in walking the park.

Great place! They have a new bridge that leads from the apes over to Elephant Odyssey. I went on it the first time today and saw a hummingbird feeding on the flowers in baskets above it! Also, I didn't know there was an elevator on the ape end that leads down to the panda enclosure!
The koalas were adorable! One guy was in a tree close to the walkway so I got a great picture of him!

Our zoo has so much to offer. Members can get free passes sometimes to share, which is how I wound up taking my autistic son and an aide. It was a blast. The cafe even had gluten free options. Of course, the animals, fish, birds, and reptiles were the best part. This zoo is well laid out, has a few new areas, and is well worth a visit. My only advice is come prepared to have fun!

Might just be my favorite place in San Diego. It really is magical to have a spot in the middle of the city that can transport you so completely to a different world. The exhibits are fantastic, the staff are helpful, and there are even some great food and drink options (Albert's Restaurant) is a great pit stop in the middle of the zoo.

If you're visiting San Diego it is a must to visit, and if you're local, buy a keeper's club membership and support this awesome place.

One of the best zoos I've been to my whole life! It's a good exercise to walk around since half the zoo is on an incline. Around the park if you purchase a water bottle they refill it with cold water for you which is very kind of them so you don't keep spending $$ on a water. They have great exhibits and friendly staff. Military friendly (free entrance for Active Duty). It's a huge zoo so my husband and I didn't get to finish it off, but we'll be back soon!

Showed up at 2ish and walked right in with no lines and got to see the whole park in about 3 hours! Had to stay in for about an hour when a storm rolled through. The eagles and kolabears were my favorite! Actually got to see one awake and eating since they sleep for 22 hours a day. Also got to see the monkeys scrum fighting for the top tree branch too.

One of my favorite places. Love all the animals the enclosures seems people friendly and can view the animals with easy. The park is walkable but hilly. One of out favorite is the polar bear exhibit.

We did eat there food needs improvement. Went to sandwich shop, the bread was hard and the process was $16. Ouch.

This is the most beautiful zoo I've been too, I'm so impressed with how lush all the plants are and every exhibit seems set up with so much care for the animals. The panda exhibit is incredibly popular so you should do it first, it opens at 9:45 so you can go right when the zoo opens. Other highlights are the elephants, the hippos, the polar bear and the giraffe feeding. A lot of the restaurants didnt open till later in the morning like 10 or 10:30 on the Sunday we went but it depends on how busy the day is according to the zoo map. All of the zoo staff are super helpful.

Lots of walking, but worth it. I took great video there of the animals. Just sad my Snow Leopard was hiding during my visit. He's my favorite. Just wish they had more TShirts with different animals on them.

Our first visit. This place will not disappoint. All the staff and volunteer s were very helpful. . The landscape was gorgeous. The grounds were impeccable... So clean which includes the bathroom. We visited on a Saturday and the crowds got busier at 5pm. You do need the map to be sure you get to see all you want . We spent about 7 hours and had a great day . Animals display have lots of information about their species and if they are endangered, threatened, or stable. The background about the generations born at the zoo and how you can help keep these species Food selections were good. Good Value is the souvenir drink bottle. One price and unlimited refills for iccee, soda, tea, lemonade. We had maybe 5 refills throughout the day, which made the bottle very affordable. You just present the re door.

The zoo is beautiful; however, during summer hours the zoo should be open to nightfall. Also, we decided to take the bus tour, we were told they would not hold us a long time before tour started but we remained on the bus for 30 minutes before it began. Waste of our time and money. Zoo is quite pricey.

Loved it. I haven't been there in almost 20 years and wow the improvement is amazing. My husband and I took our daughter and granddaughter for a great family day with wonderful weather. It was stunning how there were the two very different environments in relatively the same place. We thought my 3yo granddaughter might get a little bored, but she had a great time. Plenty of sights and information for kids and adults. The price wasn't too bad, but can get expensive quickly.

It's a great place to spend a day. I love the night time zoo in the summer. And the lights for Christmas. I have been a member for several years and plan to be for many more. Albert's is the place for finer dining in the park but you will find plenty of other food options. A

I rarely rate places five stars, but this place is worth it. The food is amazing, yes a little overpriced, but that money is going to making sure that species don't become extinct, overall an amazing experience! Active military make sure to take advantage it's so much cheaper make sure to get the souvenir cups because the alcohol OMG love it

Amazing experience. Will go again if I can. You can see it all in one day if you move fast, but it may be worth it to take it slow. Wear your walking shoes, of course. And slather on the sunscreen.

Like a jungle paradise just minutes from downtown. The greenery and shade keeps the place consistently cooler on hot days. Every visit is always a different experience so you'll get your money's worth out of an annual pass.

Best Zoo I've ever been too, my daughter absolutely loved it. She got her face painted, saw the Mom and Baby hippos, we had lunch while looking at Elephants walk around. The skyride was the coolest. Most important and I would say the best thing is Military and family get in for free. Thank you so much SD Zoo.

I'm not a huge zoo guy, but this is one of the better ones. We spent 3-4 hours there and it was enough to see everything we wanted to.

The gorillas were very active that day. Fascinating.
