AMAZING zoo! The animals were awesome, the amenities were first class. the views from the chair ride were awesome. Some parts were under construction but looking forward to going back once they are complete.

-4/30/2019 The San Diego Zoo never disappoints and has always been a staple of what a zoo should be like. From the lions, elephants, and gorillas the display and humane care for these animals is outstanding. The information and research done in order to save certain animals from becoming extinct is their priority. The sad part is that most of the visitors never read the info and just glance over it like it's nothing. Being educated and well informed about species is what makes us do better as humans. As someone who loves nature and its animals, I always wonder what it would be like without them. This zoo is a testament of what we can do to understand and keep all animals from either being endangered or extinct. I thank everyone who was and still is involved with the San Diego Zoo. 5/5 stars no doubt.
Great place to spend the day in San Diego! Be prepared for an entire day of walking if you choose to see the entire park. I would recommend bringing sun screen and lots of water. In my opinion, the "Outback" animal enclosure is the best. If you want to see the Panda enclosure, be ready to wait in line for pictures and the possibility of the Panda not being outside due to heat.
What can I say about the San Diego Zoo? I love it! As a volunteer I get to see this place almost every day! I love telling people about it as well! I learn something new about animals as well as the positive impact this place does around the world! I am so proud to live in San Diego and see the amazing things the zoo does! Great place to bring kids! Africa Rocks is amazing! If you love animals this is the place for you.
The San Diego Zoo is one of my favorite places to visit. Great place to spend a day. Very clean, lots of shade. Well kept and maintained. Nice staff and always easy parking.
It is so gorgeous inside the zoo so many beautiful plants and flowers you feel like you're somewhere out of town in a tropical island. They have so many gorgeous birds and animals. I love that they have such a wonderful breeding program and are able to help animals and plants from becoming extinct. The bird aviaries are tranquil and relaxing. An amazing selection of beautiful birds. I love this do so much. I take daily walks there
The most beautiful Zoo I have ever been too. There are so many things to do here. To beging with, we bought a Go Los Angeles Pass from groupon that included San Diego zoo among many other attractions to visit for 3 days, while at San Diego we could ride the Bus tour that gives you a glimpse of the zoo in just 45 minutes, it also included the Kangaroo Express bus, which took you from one area of the zoo to another, we only used this when were were super tired to keep walking because sometimes it took longer than the 15 minute wait time. With almost any admission you can ride the Tram which takes you from the entrance of the Zoo to the other side. If you arrive early enough it's fairly easy to find close parking, better yet parking is free.
Expect to do a lot of walking, food and water is allowed in the Zoo if you would like to avoid paying for expensive food and drinks.
We went in a Sunday, and we saw so many animals that were awake, I was not dissapointed.
My favorite animal was the Panda, lines were somewhat long but moved fast. I visited the Panda twice and it appeared as the lines is shorter earlier in the day. From the bus tour, we learned that it was best to visit the Pandas earlier or later in the day.
After 5ish it seems like there is way less people, which is an advantage if you are trying to do the bus tour or use the tram during this times.
I think a full day was enough for me and my family to do everything we hoped for, including visiting several souvenir stores.
The zoo is huge, has a lot of animals to see, I feel like the technology here is specifically made to help people navigate the zoo more easily, and have lots of fun.
Overall really awesome. So many animals to see so bring some great walking shoes. Definitely pricy, if you are doing this and at least one other popular attraction check out the San Diego go card. Can save some money that way as a tourist. Polar bears were my favourite! Great zoo.
My family and I really enjoyed the sky safari! We also went on an awesome bus tour around the zoo. Overall, the zoo is defiantly a place to go to when visiting San-Diego!
Great zoo. They have more endangered and threatened plants than animals. Go into the aviaries and enjoy. Wear good walking shoes. Also the zoo is built into a steep canyon walk down and ride up.
The elephant odyssey was great - arrived in time for feeding and got to spend time watching. They had baby giraffes! But NO pandas... The top deck of the bus afforded some cool views and the sky ride was great for views of SD. We did this at the end and it was nice for a rest. Lots of shady trees made it nice and cool. Lots of walking - walked about 5 miles. Wear comfy shoes. Clean bathrooms, no straws or lids and they had alcohol ( expensive ) and yummy cookies in the gift shop.
San Diego Zoo was everything it was cracked up to be! A lot of animals, and the zoo is not overly packed. Very happy with the visit and will definitely go again the next time I'm in San Diego!
The most amazing adventure. So many cool animals to see. Beautiful spaces for the animals to live in. Gorgeous plants all around. Serene birds songs. A little piece of paradise in the middle of the city. Wish the saber tooth tiger cafe had little more vegetarian selection.
Super cool Zoo!! I never thought I'd say that about a zoo but the number of different animals/ species was amazing. They had everything from penguins to different types of snakes, gators, turtles. They even had flamingos! It was a really cool experience and something I'd love to do again.
An incredible excursion, well worth the price of admission. It's huge, so prioritize your must-sees. We spent all day here, and still had to skip some things at the end of the day. The staff was very friendly/helpful, and the food offerings were filling and well priced.
All the animals had adequate space and there was a huge variety of animals to look at. I walked through the majority of the zoo in three hours, but i probably could've spent another hour or two there if i was being 100% thorough.
Wonderful zoo!! If you are in San Diego it's a must see. Lots to do and see. Make sure you ride the bus and sky tram. All of the volunteers and employees are super nice and knowledgeable about the zoo.
Lots to see, well maintained. The animals appear to be very well taken care of and they have more room that expected (especially for San Diego). There are busses but wear good shoes since there is a lot of walking if you want to see everything.
In one word AMAZING. It was the best zoo experience I have ever had. I would say the number of species they have is magnificent. I got to visit the Panda before China recalled them all and that was amazing. You can really tell if you speak with any zoo keeper/tour guide that they really make the best effort to care for the animals, and they are active in there efforts to bring up numbers of endangered species.
It's pretty cool being so close to all of these animals. We got lucky to have come at a time when all of the animals were pretty active. We also got to see the park rangers...? Feed the elephants! It was the cutest thing! Highly recommend coming here :) The petting zoo is pretty lame btw.
My first time at this famous Zoo, a bit pricey compared to the free National Zoo in Washington, D.C. ! The map does not show how hilly the paths are, we must have gone to the lowest point in the zoo when we got to the tiger cage, then we took an elevator to the bridge inside the zoo to find the exit to go home !
A great zoo with beautiful animal habitats and great docents to give you an insider story. I do have to complain about over priced and poor quality food. Likewise the ambiance of the zoo experience is akin to a day long telethon, trying to coerce yet more money from your wallet. Its too bad the food price gouging and the telethon ambiance detracts from an otherwise good experience.
The zoo has some great features including the bus tour and the aerial cart. There's also free parking which was a nice surprise. Definitely worth the time to go.
Haven t been to a zoo in a very long time. This zoo was great! We took the bus tour around to get a feel for the layout, but sitting on the upper left side, we didn t get to see a lot of the animals that were pointed out. We then took to walking on our own with a map and we did get to see almost all of the beautiful animals and birds and flowers. It was a hot day, so walking up the various hills was a challenge at times. We did use the kanagaroo hop on/hop off bus once or twice and used the Sky safari ride to get across to the other side more than once. Plus it was nice and breezy up there. Plenty of places to eat and the prices were not bad. They even filled your bottle with water if you asked.
The best Zoo in the World. What an amazing place to spend time with rescued animals. I liked how well they take care of this huge Wild family there. Lots of fun activities to do with kids but its a great place for all age groups.
What a great Zoo, even in this day and age they let you bring outside food and drink. Kid friendly and you can spend 2 whole days in here learning and seeing different animals.
The kids loved it and so did the parents. The Panda exhibit was about a 30 minute wait but for our daughter it was worth it, she loved seeing the pandas more than any other animal. It was also to only exhibit we had to pretty much wait for.
I would recommend getting there early if you want to see all the animals in one day. We spent about 5/6 hrs there and probably only saw half to 2/3rds of the exhibits. We would definitely return again with sandwiches and a small cooler of water to try and see more of the zoo more efficiently.
Large zoo with lots of things to see! Pretty clean restrooms and plenty of food kiosks throughout the park. Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes since parts of the zoo involve walking up small hills.
The San Diego zoo was a great place to take the family and for the price you could do a lot! My family and I really enjoyed going there and learning about all kinds of wildlife !!!
Great zoo! You should at least set a side 4-5 hours or buy a 2 day pass, if you want to see everything as it is huge! And during summer really hot. The free bus tour is great (go for downstairs seating, as the sun can be brutal on top)
Tons of animals set in different areas. Huge place! You need at least a whole day to see most everything. We took a city bus from the Gaslamp Quarter. The bus was very clean and there were only two stops before the zoo. It cost $2.25. Just remember to catch the bus back on the opposite side of the street. I would recommend if you're in the area.
The world famous San Diego Zoo. It actually lives up to the hype. We have been members for years. If you are a local, you should do the same. We go to the Zoo at least once a month, often more. Rarely spend more than 3 hours there on any given visit. Go early if you can to avoid the heat and crowds. Plus, some of the animals are most active then.
The best zoo I ve ever been to! Incredible exhibits that really replicate the animals natural habitats as much as possible. It s pricey, but well worth it for any animal lover
Worth the time and money. The experience was very nice and educational. Bring walking shoes. We walked a total or 4.5 miles from 10 to 6pm some of ot uphill. If you are in a budget you can bring you own lunch and water. Grab a map, provided at the entrance, and plan out a route. Very important if you want to take the bus to minimize walking have your purchased tickets on hand you will need it every time you board a bus. We lost ours. Also bring a hat and sunscreen. A light jacket might be a good idea in the fall.
Wonderful place, nice to see animals in an almost natural environment and not just kept. Nice day out and central location in San Diego. Knowledgeable helpers dotted about who seem to know a lot about the animals and give interesting information. Very good value for money. The pizzas near elephants are really tasty too. Sea World is good but value for money, this zoo is much better!
The San Diego Zoi is the premier zoo in the world and a place where you and your family can have fun, learn about animals, eat well and know that every dollar you spend goes back into protection and research for endangered species.
Avoid going when it's hot. Hardly any of the animals come out, and the place is big to walk around in the heat. Def need a good 8 hours or split into 2 days if you don't wanna be exhausted.
