Truly a 5 star zoo. Layout is amazing with rolling hills that make you feel like you are immersed in a new continent around every corner. Lots of exhibits, amazing and helpful staff. Great traffic flow and few choke points allow you to just wander for hours and never see the same thing twice. Must see!

What a good time. The polar bears were absolutely amazing. They are like big dogs chasing each other around, playing in the water. I watched them play for at least an hour.
After visiting this Zoo i can definitely say that it is one of the worlds best Zoo. Lot of amazing animals. A must visit place in San Diego. I heard lot of good things about San Diego Zoo before visiting it.. but after being there i can also say all the good things about it. Try to go early so that you can spend more time there. Its a big zoo! Do take a bus tour first, it will give you a good idea about the park, so you can visit it with more details after the bus tour. Please look around for plantation around the park.. they have done variety of planting around the world which is quite interesting and impressive. You ll get a chance to see lot of rare n beautiful animals. Nice fun place to go with family and friends.
In my opinion, this is the best zoo in the country. An amazing array of wildlife in a fantastic facility that allows adults and children, alike, to see and do something different with every visit. My kids loved the experience and we'll be back to do the very many things we couldn't get to in or last visit.
To really see it all and enjoy it you should dedicate 2 full days, we became members we love it so much and then brought family from Chile to see it too!!
I was very impressed with the variety of animals, birds and features at San Diego Zoo. Loved the aerial tram and Bashon Bridge - spectacular views. Enjoyed the beautiful plants and trees throughout the park. The knowledgeable and friendly staff were a bonus.
The best zoo I have ever been to. The staff is the best when talking and educating the kids and we were so pleased with he experience that we bought a membership. There are many ways to go thru the park including a bus, walking, and a sky lift. I will be back monthly to enjoy the experience of this great zoo.
Great zoo, one of the best in the world indeed! I love this zoo. Small enough to get around with family and kids without getting tired. Amazing variety of animals and great collection of predators. Bus tour and skyline are both amazing. Good shows. Good food stations too. I think good to get around (if you re like me: oh it s a nice hippo.. move on) in 4 hrs.
Gorgeous zoo; but, we spent more time, walking back and forth, trying to dissypher the map, than we did, exploring the diff. Animal exhibits. I still love this Zoo.
Been a member for many years now and enjoy going several times a year and are constantly improving and expanding. It has gotten expensive and if you are a local or like to go often recommend getting a yearly pass and enjoy.. and don't forget to visit its neighbor Balboa park a modest walk away.
I love this zoo. If I lived any where near it I would volunteer and come as often as possible. Best way to experience it is walking, but they have other options. Everyone seems very knowledgeable who work here. They are also super friendly. The zoo is well kept. Cute gifts and souvenirs. Food and snacks are expensive, you should bring your own.
We love going to the zoo! We have an annual pass and enjoy going all the time, it's a great value if you live in San Diego. There is a large variety of animals and a hop on hop off bus to make navigation easy. I recommend riding the skyfari for an amazing aerial view of the balboa park. Added perk, parking is free and plentiful!
Can't beat it... It's world renowned for a reason. Can take buses and a sky tram to get around the park. The bus tour of the whole place will let you see a lot of things in just twenty minutes. Food and water are allowed inside.
The San Diego Zoo is one of the best zoo's in all of America. They're continually expanding their land to accommodate more wildlife and interactive activities for their customers. I highly recommend everyone visit this zoo once in their lifetime.
San Diego Zoo is this amazing place filled with these amazing animals. You know the staff cares about the zoo so much. And it's awesome to know that most of the money you spend goes to the animals. Please donate to an endangered animal when you go!!!
I give this zoo is okey, beacuse it's map is too much difficult to find real thing what i am looking for..after 2 hours we only see snack and birds but in the map we miss a lots of animals. my baby boy and my frnds 2 kids boring that time.then we pick up bus and see a round of zoo..with bus only we see our kids see only for a seconds.. that's not good..we pay 400 dollars that day but after whole day we found all money going to tha water..animals are also looking like they not eating enough food..they are very tired and they have no energy at all too sowing us some tricks...
Very big, lots of walking and lots of animals to see. Some of the enclosures are a bit small, but some are pretty good sized. Could definitely spend the whole day there. Fun for the little ones!
I thought the zoo was great! I was able to get a ton of pressed pennies, and we all had a great time! A lot of birds to see, and I wish we had a better way to see the tiger
I would say it's 5 stars plus! I had a fantastic experience. Everyone was very friendly & helpful. The staff who gave the talk about the Tasmanian Devil was EXCELLENT!
Amazing zoo... always working on a new improvement project. Staff and volunteers are always helpful and informative. Fun place to exercise, animal and people watch when it's too hot elsewhere
The zoo was cool. Be sure to bring lots of snacks and drinks on your own unless you have enough money to buy a lot of stuff. Like any theme park everything's kind of expensive. One thing you have to do is make sure you take the bus tour. You get to see a lot of animals that you usually don't get to see when you're walking. The holiday lights are really cool. If you stay at night be sure and bring warm clothes jacket hat gloves good walking shoes. Other than that enjoy the day.
Keith from bus tour said they were full on the upper level. we asked for upper level, We were 4. Then whitin 3 minutes he let's a group of 4 go to the upper level. No cool. Makes me question the guy.
One of the best zoo that I have visited, well organized, beautiful pathways, great variety; has the bus tour which makes easier to choose what to visit. Excellent family plan.
Best zoo I have ever seen. They have put so much detail into the experience. I love the detail spent in the animal enclosures and surrounding landscape to make a truly unique place
The San Diego Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the world. It covers an area of 100 acres and has the world's most advanced management facilities in the vast expanse of green hills and forests. It is home to more than 800 species of animals, including cheetahs, musk ox, and red bears. Rare species such as flamingos, the zoo is the most popular in the "Panda Zone", the pandas are shipped from China, the exhibition area is located in the center of the zoo, which attracts many tourists every day. There are buses in the park for tourists to take, or you can take the skyfari. In addition to animals, subtropical plant communities that are found everywhere in the park are also famous. Animal shows are held regularly every day in the park. If you want to be in close contact with an animal, don't miss the time.
There is a reason this is the #1 zoo in the world! Great bus tour that is very informative. Tons of animals I have never seen up close before! Most importantly.......PANDAS!!! I will be coming back!
It was a great zoo, so many animals to choose from and it covers almost every corner of the world and i love the great bus rides that drop you at different spots of the zoo. Major thumbs up for this place the only bad thing about it could be more well organized in terms of showing only animals from the different sections of the planet together it kind of felt like all over the place unorganized. But in terms of experience its the best zoo i been too and i seen a few..
The San Diego Zoo is a must see! I suggest going early in the morning or towards the end of the day. The animals are fed at those times and tend to be more active. The zoo has everything from Galapagos tortoises to Anacondas and Giant Pandas! The SD Zoo takes pride in giving back to the animal kingdom. So coming here means you are chipping in to help keep all of these wonderful animals still on earth. I will always love this place. It truly is amazing!
After more than 30 years since my last visit, I had the chance to repeat a favorite childhood memory. They have made it better. Great way to spend the day in San Diego.
This zoo is very well thought out and I highly recommend checking it out if you end up in the San Diego area. It will definitely take the better part of your day if you're walking. Expect a long line for the bus tours if you are doing it that way. Also expect a long line for the Panda exhibit.
My kids and I love spending time here. There are so many species to see, and we have different experiences each time we come. Today we had a face to face encounter with a Malayan Tiger!
I thought it was a lot of fun as a kid to run around and take pictures. I definitely would have wanted to interact with the animals more then just looking at them!
I haven't been here since I was a child. I came with my friends for their child's birthday and I felt like it really balances the nostalgia factor that makes it great for kids and all the fun (free range alcohol) that an adult can ask for. It was very fun for educational activities.
Now that I have been to the San Diego zoo I will never be going back to The Houston Zoo. The whole layout, exhibits, size. Everything about the zoo is top notch. When I first found out about the entrance fee I was shocked, but after actually spending the day there I see why it's 58 bucks. I would go back in a heart beat.
Food is pretty expensive pack a lunch and bring water bottles. It's definitely an all day thing if you want to enjoy The Full Experience. They need a few more bathrooms. Very clean and some real nice exhibits. Definitely recommend it for families.
Overhyped, but definitely not bad. Although, compared to best European zoos only mediocre. For US perhaps one of the better zoos, but when we visited in October 2019 a lot of animals were not there to be seen. Recommend to get there early to avoid queues.
We enjoyed a day at the zoo. Best way to visit all major attraction is take kangaroo shuttle and visit the numbered points and do all the attractions are near to you then again hop into ride and move to other point.
They have amazing bus shuttle service. Sky ride was so amazing. When you take bus ride try to be on the left side of bus so that you will see all major attractions
Other than a mask psycho having a fit because I had my mask down taking a drink, it was great..not sure you need that many employees holding signs to wear your mask, I mean we are in the open air, unlike the protesters packed like sardines, people were pretty much keeping away from eachother.
This is the world's bestest zoo, i totally recommend this visiting once. I was amazed to visit this place. They have maintained it so well. Just go without even thinking.
Finally we were able to take the kids to the most famous zoo in the world. What a wonderful experience. My kids really loved it so did I . Next time I m planning to visit the safari.
Excellent zoo. An amazing variety of animals. One thing to keep in mind, given how popular it is with locals and tourists alike, weekends and during the holidays tend to be very busy with families.
Animals were active even in the heat of day. The water tasted a little funny. Bus tour was very informative. Dont get the buffalo sliders at the terrace lagoon. Worst food I've ever had in any tourist spot. Chicken parmesan was nice though.
I mean what can I say!? It s called world famous for a reason! Annual passes are reasonably priced, they are a not for profit, which means you can write purchases off on your taxes! Win win win!
Clean park, very helpful staff, great attractions. Pro Tip: bring a well stocked wagon or stroller with sandwiches, water and snacks (which are all allowed). Be prepared for some hills or use the bus system to take you to the top of the hills and work your way down.
One of the best zoo in the world. Great place to take your family. Exhibits are so natural and they do a great job of making you understand the environment.
